ABSTRACT

Introduction: The prognosis of relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia (r/rAML) is dismal, and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo-HSCT) is a potential cure. Combining anti-PD-1, hypomethylating agent (HMA), and CAG (cytarabine, aclarubicin/idarubicin, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor) regimen has showed primary efficacy in r/rAML. However, pre-transplant exposure to anti-PD-1 may lead to severe graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). This preliminary study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of allo-HSCT in r/rAML patients receiving the anti-PD-1+HMA+CAG regimen. Methods: Fifteen r/rAML patients (12 related haploidentical donors [HIDs], 2 matched siblings, 1 unrelated donor) received this regimen and subsequent peripheral blood HSCT. Results: Four patients with HIDs received a GVHD prophylaxis regimen consisted of Anti-thymocyte globulin and a reduced-dose of post-transplant cyclophosphamide. The median follow-up was 20.9 months (range, 1.2-34.2). The cumulative incidences of acute GVHD grade 2-4 and grade 3-4 were 40% and 13.3%, respectively. The 2-year incidence of moderate-to-severe chronic GVHD, non-relapse mortality, and relapse were 10%, 22.3%, and 22.5%, respectively. The 2-year overall survival and GVHD-free/relapse-free survival rates were 54% and 48.6%, respectively. No death or relapse was observed in the PTCy group. Conclusion: The anti-PD-1+HMA+CAG regimen bridging to allo-HSCT for r/r AML was tolerable with promising efficacy. GVHD prophylaxis with PTCy for HID-HSCT showed preliminary survival advantage.

ABSTRACT

The prognosis of patients diagnosed with relapsed or refractory (R/R) T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (T-ALL/LBL) has consistently been unsatisfactory, with limited treatment options. As reports, the CAG regimen can serve as a salvage treatment for R/R T-ALL/LBL, but there remains a subset of patients who do not benefit from it. Recent studies have indicated that daratumumab (Dara) and venetoclax (Ven) may offer promising therapeutic benefits for T-ALL/LBL. In light of these findings, we conducted a safety and efficacy evaluation of the enhanced treatment regimen, combining Dara and Ven with aclarubicin, cytarabine, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, and etoposide (CAGE), in patients suffering from R/R T-ALL/LBL. The participants in this phase I trial were patients with R/R T-ALL/LBL who fail to standard treatment regimens. During each 28-day cycle, the patients were treated by Dara, Ven, cytarabine, aclarubicin, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, etoposide. The primary endpoint of this study was the rate of remission. This report presents the prospective outcomes of 21 patients who received the salvage therapy of Dara and Ven combined with the CAGE regimen (Dara + Ven + CAGE). The objective remission rate (ORR) was determined to be 57.1%, while the complete remission (CR) rate was 47.6%. Notably, patients with the early T-cell precursor (ETP) subtype exhibited a significantly higher remission rate in the bone marrow compared to non-ETP patients (100% vs. 44.4%, p = 0.044). The Dara + Ven + CAGE regimen demonstrated a favorable remission rate in patients with R/R T-ALL/LBL. Moreover, the treatment was well-tolerated.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Both venetoclax plus a hypomethylating agent (VEN/HMA) and cytarabine, aclarubicin, and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (CAG) are low-intensity regimens for older patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that show good efficacy and safety. It is unknown how VEN/HMA compares with the CAG regimen for the treatment of newly diagnosed AML. METHODS: The outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed AML treated with VEN/HMA were compared with those of patients treated with a CAG-based regimen. Propensity score matching between these two cohorts at a 1:1 ratio was performed according to age at diagnosis, sex, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, state of fitness, and European LeukemiaNet (ELN) 2022 risk stratification to minimize bias. RESULTS: A total of 84 of 96 patients in the VEN/HMA cohort were matched with 84 of 147 patients in the CAG cohort. VEN/HMA resulted in a better response than the CAG-based regimens, as indicated by a higher composite complete remission (CRc) rate (82.1% vs. 60.7%; p = .002) and minimal residual disease negativity rate (88.2% vs. 68.2%; p = .009). In patients with an ELN adverse risk, VEN/HMA was associated with a higher CRc rate compared to CAG (80.5% vs. 58.3%; p = .006). VEN/HMA was associated with longer event-free survival (EFS) (median EFS, not reached vs. 4.5 months; p = .0004), whereas overall survival (OS) was comparable between the two cohorts (median OS, not reached vs. 18 months; p = .078). CONCLUSIONS: The VEN/HMA regimen may result in a better response than CAG-based treatment in older patients with newly diagnosed AML.

Objectives: To analyze the efficacy and safety of decitabine combined with low/reduced-dose chemotherapy in newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients unfit for intensive therapy and to investigate the early prognostic indicators for these patients. Methods: The eligible patients treated with decitabine-based chemotherapy were retrospectively analyzed. Responses and long-term survival were calculated and their correlation with clinical characteristics was analyzed. Minimal residual disease (MRD) detected by flow cytometry (FCM) after the induction therapy was measured, and the association with prognosis was explored. Results: Fifty-five newly diagnosed AML patients were enrolled. The overall response rate (ORR) was 80.0%, with a complete remission (CR) rate of 63.64% and partial remission (PR) rate of 16.36%. Grade 4 hematological toxicity was common, and the incidence of infections was 83.64%, with 18.18% of patients suffered from severe infections. No serious bleeding or non-hematological adverse events occurred. Treatment-related mortality was 3.64%. The median overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were 17.0 (13.7-20.3) months and 17.0 (10.2-23.8) months, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that an advanced age (≥ 60 years) and higher MRD (≥ 1.34%) after induction therapy were adverse prognostic factors for patients who had achieved CR. Conclusions: Decitabine-based chemotherapy may be a suitable therapeutic alternative for newly diagnosed AML patients who are unfit for intensive chemotherapy. An advanced age (≥ 60 years) and higher MRD (≥ 1.34%) were considered adverse prognostic factors.

BACKGROUND: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients with non-remission (NR) after the first cycle of standard induction chemotherapy remain a challenge owing to poor response and tolerance to re-induction regimen. We retrospectively evaluated the efficacy and safety of three regimens in AML patients refractory to the first course of standard induction regimen. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The three regimens consisted of (1) High-dose cytarabine, aclarubicin and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (HD-CAG) regimen (n = 44); (2) intermediate/high-dose cytarabine (I/HDAC) regimen (n = 30); and (3) standard-dose cytarabine (SDAC) combination regimen that was identical to the first course of standard induction regimen (n = 27). RESULTS: Results indicated that after the second course, the overall response (OR), i.e., complete remission [CR]+partial remission [PR]) rates in HD-CAG was higher than in the I/HDAC group (84.1% vs. 56.7%, P = 0.009), whereas the CR rates among 3 groups were not statistically different (P = 0.541). Meanwhile, the proportion of subjects reporting certain adverse effects in the HD-CAG group was lower than the I/HDAC or SDAC groups. There were no significant differences in overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates among the 3 groups (P = 0.881 and P = 0.872, respectively). CONCLUSION: Our preliminary results indicate that HD-CAG regimen may represent a better alternative option for AML patients with NR after the first course of standard induction chemotherapy.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy and adverse effects of HCAG and FLAG re-induction chemotherapy in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients of low- and intermediate-risk groups following induction failure. METHODS: A total of 98 AML patients were enrolled. Among these subjects, 47 patients were treated with HCAG chemotherapy, while 51 patients were treated with FLAG chemotherapy. RESULT: The complete remission (CR) and overall remission (OFF) were 24% and 38%, respectively in patients with HCAG induction chemotherapy, while the corresponding percentages were 28% and 42% in subject receiving FLAG chemotherapy. The median survival time of progress-free survival (PFS) was 29.8 (95% CI 23.749-35.851) months in the HCAG group and 30.8 (95% CI 21.728-39.872) months in the FLAG group (P = 0.620). A total of 42 patients in the HCAG group suffered from grade 4 hematological toxicity, while this adverse reaction was noted for all patients who were treated with FLAG chemotherapy (P = 0.023). A total of 19 cases indicated apparent nonhematological toxicity in the HCAG group, while only 40 (78.4%) were noted with these adverse reactions in the FLAG group (P = 0.000). CONCLUSION: The HCAG regimen exhibited a similar effect compared with the FLAG regimen in low- and intermediate-risk groups, although the HCAG regimen significantly decreased the toxicity compared with that noted in the FLAG regimen group.

BACKGROUND: Definite prognostic clinical factors of benefit for decitabine-based induction chemotherapy in elderly patients newly diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) are not identified. This study was designed to explore the potential biomarker, especially regeneration of haematopoiesis, of treatment response and survival in elderly patients with newly diagnosed AML. METHOD: We analysed the clinical data of 117 elderly AML patients who were treated with a decitabine dose of 15 mg/m2 for 5 days, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor of 300 µg/d for priming, plus cytarabine 10 mg/m2 q12h for 7 days and aclarubicin 10 mg/d for 4 days (D-CAG). RESULTS: After initial induction chemotherapy, the overall response rate and complete remission (CR) were 71.8% and 58.1%, respectively. Patients responding to the D-CAG regimen achieved higher platelet counts on day 14 after initial treatment (p < 0.001). Median counts were 59.5 × 109/L in the CR group, 37 × 109/L in the partial remission group and 28 × 109/L in the non-responsive group. We then classified patients into those who achieved platelet counts≥60 × 109/L or 100 × 109/L on day 14 after D-CAG vs. those who did not. Platelet counts≥60 × 109/L or 100 × 109/L on day 14 were significantly associated with superior CR, overall survival and disease-free survival (80.9% vs. 45.3% p < 0.001,16.5 vs. 9.1 months p = 0.009 and 16.3 vs. 7.4 months p = 0.024; 85.2% vs. 50% p = 0.001, 31 vs. 10.1 months p = 0.003 and 16.9 vs. 8.9 months p = 0.006). Multivariate analysis confirmed that poor cytogenetics (p = 0.010) and FLT3-ITD mutation (p = 0.007) were identified as independent factors of OS, but not platelet count (p = 0.091). However, platelet count≥100 × 109/L on day 14 was an independent prognostic factor of CR and DFS. CONCLUSION: Platelet count recovery on day 14 after D-CAG induction chemotherapy is associated with response. TRIAL REGISTRATION: D-CAG regimen was registered on ChicTR with number 11001700 .

ABSTRACT

The selection of chemotherapy regimen for elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains challenging. Here, we report that granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) upregulates the expression of microRNA (miR)-146a in a nuclear factor kappaB-dependent manner, leading to direct decreases in the expression of the target proteins CXCR4 and Smad4 in AML cells in vitro. The reduction in CXCR4 expression suppressed the migration abilities of leukemia cells. Downregulation of Smad4 promoted cell cycle entry in leukemia cells. Furthermore, an increase in apoptosis was observed when leukemia cells were treated sequentially with G-CSF and cytosine arabinoside in vitro. These findings suggest that G-CSF treatment may disrupt the protection of bone marrow niches from leukemia cells. In a review of data from 78 cases of primary AML, we found that a high miR-146a expression and/or upregulation of this miRNA during G-CSF priming chemotherapy was predictive of better clinical outcomes. Our findings suggest that miR-146a may be a novel biomarker for evaluating the clinical prognosis and treatment effects of a G-CSF priming protocol in elderly patients with AML.

BACKGROUND: Currently, the treatment decisions in elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are difficult and remain controversial. This study aims to evaluate the effect of thalidomide plus chemotherapy on elderly patients with AML. METHODS: 70 elderly AML patients (median age 71 years) were enrolled into this prospective study and randomly assigned to either the control arm (PC, n = 35) or the investigational arm (TPC, n = 35). Patients in the PC arm received a non-intensive regimen composed of cytarabine, aclarubicin and G-CSF (CAG) chemotherapy for induction of remission, and patients in the TPC arm received in addition thalidomide at a maximum dose of 200 mg/day. RESULTS: After 2 courses of induction therapy, complete response rate of TPC and PC arms was 54.3% and 57.1%, respectively (p = 0.810). At the last follow-up, the Kaplan-Meier estimate showed that the median overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) in patients in the PC arm was inferior to those of patients in the TPC arm. Using a stratified Cox model adjusted for randomized treatment, patients receiving thalidomide plus chemotherapy were shown to derive some survival benefit in both OS and EFS. Overall, the hematological and non-hematological toxicity were similar between the 2 treatment arms. CONCLUSIONS: Thalidomide in combination with chemotherapy is an alternative treatment option for elderly patients with AML.

ABSTRACT

We retrospectively studied 87 patients aged from 55 to 69 years old with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who received decitabine in combination with G-CSF, low-dose cytarabine and aclarubicin (DCAG) or standard dose chemotherapy as induction therapy. Patients receiving DCAG had a similar overall response rate (ORR) (p = .6105) and complete remission (CR) rate (p = .3615) compared to those undergoing standard induction. The median overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) was also similar between the two groups although more 'older' (aged from 60 to 69 years old) and 'unfit' patients underwent DCAG regimen. Notably, patients in DCAG group experienced significantly fewer infections (75 versus 100%, p = .001). Moreover recovery of platelet count was significantly more rapid in DCAG group. Thus we speculate DCAG is possibly a feasible and safe treatment regimen for the relatively older patients with AML and is as effective as standard induction.

ABSTRACT

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients who fail to acquire complete remission (CR) or who relapse after initial response have poor prognosis. At present there is no consensus as to the standard salvage therapy for these patients. In this study, we retrospectively evaluate safety and efficacy of a salvage regimen (CAGLP) consisting of G-CSF, low-dose cytarabine, aclarubicin, l-asparaginase and prednisone. Thirty-six patients were included with primary refractory (n=13) or relapse (n=23). The overall response rate (ORR) and CR rate were 86.1% and 63.9%, respectively. With a median follow-up of 34 months, the probability of overall survival (OS) at 2 years was 30%±10% and the disease-free survival (DFS) rate was 15%±8%. Treatment-related mortality was 5.6%. Our preliminary results indicated that CAGLP was feasible, safe and effective as a salvage reinduction chemotherapy for primary refractory and relapsed ALL patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical efficacy of low-dose decitabine combined with CAG regimen in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome-refractory anemia with excess blasts (MDS-RAEB) through retrospective analysis. METHODS: Thirty-six patients with MDS-RAEB who ever received low-dose decitabine combined with CAG regimen were enrolled into decitabine + CAG group and 40 patients with MDS-RAEB treated by decitabine alone in our center were enolled into the control group. The clinical characteristics, efficacy and adverse reactions (AE) were compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the overall response rate (ORR) [complete remission (CR)+partial remission (PR) + hematologic improvement (HI) rate] of the decitabine+CAG group was higher (83.3% vs 62.5%)(P=0.043), and the AEs were not significantly increased. Cytopenia grade ≥3 and infection after treatment were the most prevalent AEs, which occurred in the early stage (within the first 2 cycles) and gradually decreased later. Other non-hematologic AEs were infrequent. CONCLUSION: Low-dose decitabine combined with CAG regimen has better clinical efficacy for patients with MDS-RAEB than that of decitabine alone. It is worthy to be applied in clinic, especially for these patients who are not ineligible for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

We retrospectively analyzed the relationship between white blood cell (WBC) count elevation after priming and clinical response in 115 patients with AML (61 untreated and 54 relapsed or refractory) treated with low-dose cytarabine, aclarubicin, and G-CSF priming. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that the ratio of maximum WBC count to pretreatment WBC count (WBCratio) was most strongly associated with complete remission (CR) in previously untreated patients among several parameters we analyzed in this study; however, the prediction accuracy was not clinically significant considering the area under the curve of 0.694. Based on the cutoff value of the WBCratio, CR rate and event-free survival in the high WBCratio group were significantly better than those in the low WBCratio group in untreated patients. Regarding the WBC differential counts, a high ratio of the maximum to pretreatment value of neutrophils rather than that of peripheral blasts was associated with a superior CR rate. In addition, an increase in blasts after G-CSF priming had a significant negative impact on CR rate in untreated patients. In conclusion, an increase in blast counts after G-CSF priming was not predictive of achieving CR.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine whether decitabine priming prior to low-dose chemotherapeutic regimens could improve outcomes in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes-refractory anemia with excess of blasts (MDS-RAEB). METHODS: The current retrospective analysis included all MDS-RAEB patients receiving idarubicin/cytarabine (IA) or aclacinomycin/cytarabine (AA), with or without decitabine priming during a period from February 2010 to May 2015. Treatment response and toxicity were compared between patients receiving decitabine priming and those who did not. A panel of 6 MDS-related genes was examined using bone marrow specimens. RESULTS: A total of 81 patients were included in the analysis: 40 received decitabine priming prior to chemotherapy (decitabine priming group). The median follow-up was 10.9 months (IQR: 6.2-21.9). The rate of overall response (OR) and complete remission (CR) was significantly higher in the decitabine priming group than in the chemotherapy group (OR: 75.0 vs. 51.2%, p = 0.027; CR: 55.0 vs. 29.3%, p = 0.019). Overall survival (OS) did not differ significantly between the two groups (19.5 vs. 14.7 months, p = 0.082). In a subgroup analysis that included only patients at < 60 years of age, the CR rate in the decitabine priming group was significantly higher than in the chemotherapy group (65.5 vs. 31.0%, p = 0.009). Survival benefit of decitabine priming was apparent in patients at < 60 years of age (22.4 months with 95% CI of 6.7-38.1 vs. 14.7 months with 95% CI of 11.4-18.0 months in the chemotherapy group, p = 0.028), patients with intermediate and unfavorable karyotypes (22.4 months with 95% CI of 15.1-29.7 vs. 11.9 months with 95% CI of 4.0-19.8 months in the chemotherapy group, p = 0.042), and patients with mutated splicing factor genes (35.3 months with 95% CI of 21.4-49.2 vs. 17.8 months with 95% CI of 13.8-21.8 months in the chemotherapy group, p = 0.039). Grade 3-4 hematological and non-hematological toxicities were not significantly different between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Decitabine priming prior to low-dose chemotherapy could improve treatment responses in patients with MDS-RAEB.

ABSTRACT

The acquisition of drug resistance mediated by the interaction of tumor cells with the extracellular matrix (ECM), commonly referred to as cell adhesion-mediated drug resistance (CAM-DR), has been observed not only in hematopoietic tumor cells but also in solid tumor cells. We have previously demonstrated that a 22-mer peptide derived from fibronectin, FNIII14, can inhibit cell adhesion through the inactivation of ß1 integrin; when coadministered with cytarabine, FNIII14 completely eradicates acute myelogenous leukemia by suppressing CAM-DR. In this study, we show that our FNIII14 peptide also enhances chemotherapy efficacy in solid tumors. Coadministration of FNIII14 synergistically enhances the cytotoxicity of doxorubicin and aclarubicin in mammary tumor and melanoma cells, respectively. The solid tumor cell chemosensitization induced by FNIII14 is dependent upon the upregulation and activation of the pro-apoptotic protein, Bim. Furthermore, the metastasis of tumor cells derived from ventrally transplanted mammary tumor grafts is suppressed by the coadministration of FNIII14 and doxorubicin. These results suggest that the coadministration of our FNIII14 peptide with chemotherapy could achieve efficient solid tumor eradication by increasing chemosensitivity and decreasing metastasis. The major causes of tumor recurrence are the existence of chemotherapy-resistant primary tumor cells and the establishment of secondary metastatic lesions. As such, coadministering FNIII14 with anti-cancer drugs could provide a promising new approach to improve the prognosis of patients with solid tumors.

The prognosis of elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is poor, and the recommendation of standard-dose or low-intensity induction regimen for these patients remains controversial. We retrospectively analyzed treatment outcome and prognostic factors of elderly AML patients who had received either standard-dose or low-intensity induction regimens.Two hundred forty-eight elderly AML patients with good Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG PS ≤ 2) received one of three regimens for induction in this study: standard-dose cytarabine plus idarubicin (IA; n = 144) or daunorubicin (DA; n = 42); low-intensity cytarabine, aclarubicin, and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) (CAG; n = 62).After first induction treatment cycle, the overall complete remission (CR) rate was 42.7%. Patients in IA group had a higher CR rate than in DA or CAG group (49.3%, 35.7%, and 32.3%, respectively; P = 0.046). The 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year overall survival (OS) rates were 42.2%, 18.9%, and 13.5% for these 248 patients, with median survival of 9.2 months. Long-term survival of IA group was better than DA or CAG group. The 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year OS rates of IA group were 45.9%, 23.5%, and 19.4%, respectively, as compared to 39.8%, 8.3%, and estimated 2.4% in DA group, and 34.9%, 15.9%, and 6.3% in CAG group, respectively. Early induction mortality and 2-year relapse rates showed no difference among 3 groups. Univariate analysis and multivariate analysis identified lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) more than two times of upper normal limit at diagnosis and nonremission after first induction cycle as adverse prognostic factors for OS. A simple and valid scoring model was constructed for risk stratification and prediction of long-term survival of elderly AML patients.Standard-dose IA regimen could improve the prognosis of elderly AML patients with good performance status compared with standard-dose DA or low-intensity CAG regimen. All prognostic factors and risk assessment should be considered to ensure that each patient receives the suitable individualized treatment.

ABSTRACT

Homoharringtonine combined aclarubicin and cytarabine (HAA) has been demonstrated to achieve a high remission rate and provide a survival advantage in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). To investigate whether HAA is an ideal induction regimen for t(8;21)AML, we retrospectively analyzed the data of 140 patients from the last 8 years in our center. When achieving complete remission (CR), the post-remission treatment was administered as a minimal residual disease-directed risk-stratification treatment protocol. The RUNX1/RUNX1T1 transcript level was assessed by RT-qPCR. The last follow-up was conducted in October 2015. In total, thirty patients received an HAA regimen as the induction treatment. The CR rate after one cycle of the HAA regimen was 93.3% (28/30). One patient achieved partial remission, and one had no response. No patients died during induction treatment. The median fold decrease of the RUNX1/RUNX1T1 transcript level was 200 (1-358000), and 16.7% (5/30) patients achieved >3 log decrease after one cycle of the HAA regimen. The estimated 4-year disease-free survival and overall survival were 89.9% and 90.8%, respectively. We concluded that the HAA regimen is highly effective as the first course of induction therapy for t(8;21) AML, and this needs to be confirmed in a large population in the future.

This retrospective analysis compared the efficacy of intensive induction therapy consisting of daunorubicin and cytarabine (DNR-AraC) to that of less-intensive therapy including low-dose cytarabine, aclarubicin and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor priming (CAG). Patients aged 60 years or older who were newly diagnosed as acute myeloid leukemia (AML) were analyzed. Sixty-four and 48 patients were treated with DNR-AraC and CAG, respectively. The complete remission rates, 3-year overall survival and event-free survival in the DNR-AraC group were significantly superior to those in the CAG group (65.6% vs. 29.2%, p<0.001, 38.4% vs. 12.3%, p=0.0033, and 20.3% vs. 7.8%, p=0.0030, respectively), although these differences were not statistically significant in multivariate analyses. Next, we calculated a propensity score for selecting the CAG regimen from six factors. The DNR-AraC regimen was associated with better survival than the CAG regimen in a low propensity score group, but there was no difference in survival between regimens in a high propensity score group. Intensive therapy should be performed for patients with sufficient general and comorbid conditions, but less-intensive therapy may be sufficient for patients with higher age, myelodysplasia-related changes, and lower white blood cell counts, which were relevant factors in the propensity score calculation.
