ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To compare the results of intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) monotherapy and combined intravitreal bevacizumab and laser photocoagulation (LPC) therapies applied in the same session to patients with aggressive retinopathy of prematurity (A-ROP) in our clinic. METHODS: The study included 67 eyes of 37 patients diagnosed with A-ROP and treated. Forty-nine eyes treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agent injection monotherapy for A-ROP treatment were included in the first group. The second group consisted of 18 eyes that received injection therapy and LPC treatment. The clinical findings of the two groups were investigated, and their treatment results were compared. RESULTS: Recurrence was observed in 19 of the 49 (38%) eyes in the first group, but there was no recurrence in any of the cases in the second group. While only IVB was applied to eight cases with recurrence, the combination of LPC and IVB treatment was applied to 11 cases. A second recurrence was detected in two of the eight cases that had received IVB monotherapy as a treatment for recurrence and in three of the 11 cases that had received LPC and IVB. The treatment outcomes of the two groups did not statistically significantly differ (P = 0.181). CONCLUSION: We consider that the combined simultaneous LPC and IVB treatment we applied in A-ROP cases is an effective approach, particularly for cases where there are concerns about the patient's ability to attend follow-up appointments.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Lenvatinib (LEN) and atezolizumab + bevacizumab (A + B) have drastically changed the treatment paradigm for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Before these landmark trials, sorafenib (SOR) served as the standard first-line treatment for a decade. Our study aimed to assess the outcomes of HCC patients treated during the SOR era (2008-2018) in contrast to those in the post-SOR era (2018-2021), of which the predominant first-line treatments were LEN or A + B. METHODS: Inclusion criteria of the study were all HCC patients in the Canadian province of Alberta who started first-line systemic therapy at cancer centers between 1 January 2008 and 31 December 2021. Survival outcomes, including overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), along with clinician-assessed response rate (RR), were subject to retrospective analysis. RESULTS: Of 372 total patients, 230 received treatment in the SOR era and 142 in the post-SOR era. The demographic and clinical characteristics for the SOR era and post-SOR era groups are as follows, respectively: the median age was 63 and 64 years, 80% and 81% were male, and 24% and 11% were of East Asian ethnicity. Before receiving systemic treatment, 40% and 33% received TACE, 7% and 9% received TARE, and 3% and 14% received SBRT in the two eras, respectively. In the post-SOR era, patients received A + B (23%), LEN (51%), and SOR (23%) as first-line treatment. There was a statistically significant improvement in RR (15% vs. 26%; p = 0.02), median PFS (3.8 months vs. 7.9 months; p < 0.0001), and median OS (9.8 months vs. 17.0 months; p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: In this retrospective multicenter real-world study, HCC patients treated in the post-SOR era, where LEN and A + B were commonly used first-line treatments, exhibited superior OS, PFS, and RR compared to patients treated in the SOR era. The findings of this study affirm the tangible progress achieved in the real world in enhancing outcomes for HCC patients through advancements in treatments over the past 15 years.

ABSTRACT

Bevacizumab-induced hypertension poses a therapeutic challenge and identifying biomarkers for hypertension can enhance therapy safety. Lower plasma levels of VEGF-A, angiopoietin-2, and rs6770663 in KCNAB1 were previously associated with increased risk of bevacizumab-induced hypertension. This study investigated whether these factors independently contribute to grade 2-3 bevacizumab-induced hypertension risk in 277 cancer patients (CALGB/Alliance 90401). Multivariable analyses assessed the independent association of each factor and hypertension. Likelihood ratio test (LRT) evaluated the explanatory significance of combining protein levels and rs6770663 in predicting hypertension. Boostrap was employed to assess the mediation effect of protein levels on the rs6770663 association with hypertension. Lower protein levels and rs6770663 were independently associated with increased hypertension risk. Adding rs6770663 to protein levels improved the prediction of hypertension (LRT p = 0.0002), with no mediation effect observed. Protein levels of VEGF-A, angiopoietin-2 and rs6770663 in KCNAB1 are independent risk factors and, when combined, may improve prediction of bevacizumab-induced hypertension. ABSTRACT

RATIONALE: Bevacizumab (Bev) is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets vascular endothelial growth factor A and is primarily used for the treatment of various solid tumors. Aortic dissection (AD) is a severe vascular disease caused by the tearing of the intimal layer of the aorta or bleeding within the aortic wall, resulting in the separation of different layers of the aortic wall. However, the pathogenesis is not fully understood. Some studies have suggested that Bev treatment is associated with the occurrence of AD. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 67-year-old Chinese male was diagnosed with rectal cancer accompanied by liver and lung metastasis. Three days after starting combined chemotherapy with Bev, the patient developed persistent abdominal pain. Abdominal CT scan revealed celiac trunk AD in the abdominal aorta. DIAGNOSES: The patient was diagnosed with rectal cancer accompanied by liver and lung metastases. Abdominal CT tomography revealed a celiac trunk AD. INTERVENTIONS: Somatostatin combined with valsartan was used to control blood pressure. The patient was subsequently referred for vascular surgery and underwent an abdominal aortic angiography. Conservative treatment was continued. OUTCOMES: Three months after the initiation of treatment, follow-up abdominal CT scans showed stability in the condition of celiac trunk AD, with no abdominal pain or hypertension. There were no signs of worsening dissection, aneurysm formation, or inadequate perfusion of end organs. LESSONS: There may be a connection between Bev and elevated blood pressure as well as celiac trunk AD.

ABSTRACT

Recurrent glioblastoma (rGBM) is a brain tumor that is resistant to standard treatments. Although stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a non-invasive radiation technique, it cannot fully prevent tumor recurrence and progression. Bevacizumab blocks tumor blood supply and has been approved for rGBM. However, the best way to combine SRS and bevacizumab is still unclear. We did a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies comparing SRS alone and SRS plus bevacizumab for rGBM. We searched three databases for articles published until June 2023. All statistical analysis was performed by STATA v.17. Our meta-analysis included 20 studies with 926 patients. We found that the combination therapy had a significantly lower rate of overall survival (OS) than SRS alone at 6-month 0.77[95%CI:0.74-0.85] for SRS alone and (100%) for SRS plus bevacizumab. At 1-year OS, 0.39 [95%CI: 0.32-0.47] for SRS alone and 0.61 [95%CI:0.44-0.77] for SRS plus bevacizumab (P-value:0.02). However, this advantage was not seen in the long term (18 months and two years). Additionally, the combination therapy had lower chances of progression-free survival (PFS) than SRS alone at the 6-month and 1-year time points, but the differences were insignificant. Our study indicates that incorporating bevacizumab with SRS may lead to a short-term increase in OS for rGBM patients but not long-term. Additionally, the PFS rate did not show significant improvement in the group receiving combination therapy. Further clinical trials are necessary to validate the enhanced overall survival with combination therapy for rGBM.

BACKGROUND: Extracranial metastases occur in <2% of cases of glioblastoma (GBM). When metastases do occur, bone is the most common destination. Herein, we review clinical characteristics of GBM patients with osseous metastases and evaluate both potential risk factors and prognostic significance. METHODS: Using an institutional database, we identified and retrospectively analyzed 6 patients with both GBM and osseous metastases. We collected data on patient demographics, tumor genetics, clinical courses, and outcomes. Given the rarity of metastatic GBM, we conducted historical comparisons using previously published literature. RESULTS: Five patients with osseous metastases (83%) were male, with a median age of 46 years at GBM diagnosis (range: 20-84). All patients had IDH-wildtype, MGMT promoter unmethylated GBM and 5 (83%) had alterations in TP53. All patients underwent surgical resection for GBM followed by radiation with concurrent and adjuvant temozolomide. Four patients (67%) received bevacizumab prior to bone metastasis diagnosis. Bone metastases were discovered at a median of 12.2 months (range: 5.3-35.2) after GBM diagnosis and 4.8 months after starting bevacizumab (range: 3.5-13.2). Three patients (50%) received immunotherapy. After osseous metastasis diagnosis, the median survival was 25 days (range: 13-225). CONCLUSION: In our cohort, most patients were male and young at the time of GBM diagnosis. All patients had IDH-wildtype, MGMT promoter unmethylated GBM, and most had alterations in TP53, which may be important for osseous metastasis. Most patients received bevacizumab, which has been associated with earlier metastasis. Osseous metastases of GBM occur and portend a dismal prognosis in an already aggressive malignancy.

ABSTRACT

Respiratory papilloma is a relatively common benign tumor of the respiratory tract, and a few patients may develop malignant changes. The disease has an insidious onset and lacks specific clinical manifestations, and its manifestations are closely related to the growth mode, location and size of the tumor. It can involve multiple parts, such as the larynx, trachea, bronchus, and lung parenchyma, which cause coughing, hoarseness, dysphonia, and, in severe cases, may lead to obstruction of the respiratory tract. At present, the treatment of respiratory papilloma lacks standardization, and there is no effective method to cure the disease. Surgery remains the main treatment for alleviating patients' symptoms and preventing airway obstruction. However, due to the high recurrence rate of respiratory papilloma, multiple surgeries are often needed, which reduces the quality of life of patients and increases their disease burden and economic burden. Bevacizumab, a vascular endothelial growth factor-binding antibody inhibitor, is a promising adjuvant treatment modality that shows good potential for reducing symptoms and the frequency of surgery. This article aimed to review the efficacy and safety of bevacizumab for the treatment of respiratory papilloma and discuss the differences and efficacy of the systemic application and intralesional injection of bevacizumab for the treatment of respiratory papilloma.

Background/Aims: Atezolizumab and bevacizumab have shown promising results for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in clinical trials. In this study, the real-world efficacy and safety of atezolizumab and bevacizumab in treating advanced HCC were evaluated. Methods: In this retrospective study of patients at a Korean tertiary cancer center, 111 patients with Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage B or C HCC received atezolizumab and bevacizumab as first-line therapy from May 2022 to June 2023. We assessed the progression-free survival (PFS), overall response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), and adverse events. Results: Patients with Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage C HCC and Child-Pugh class A liver function were included in the study. The median PFS was 6.5 months, with an ORR of 27% and a DCR of 63%. Several factors, including the albumin-bilirubin grade, age, C-reactive protein and α-fetoprotein in immunotherapy score, macrovascular invasion, lung metastases, and combined radiotherapy, were found to significantly influence PFS (p<0.05). Patients with peritoneal seeding showed an higher ORR. The safety profile was consistent with that observed in clinical trials. Conclusions: Atezolizumab and bevacizumab demonstrated real-world efficacy in the treatment of advanced HCC, with ORRs and DCRs aligning with those observed in clinical trials. Variations in PFS and ORR based on specific risk factors highlight the potential of atezolizumab and bevacizumab in precision medicine for advanced HCC.

Purpose: To compare gene expression changes following branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) in the pig with and without bevacizumab (BEV) and triamcinolone acetonide (TA). Methods: Photothrombotic BRVOs were created in both eyes of four groups of nine pigs (2, 6, 10, and 20 days). In each group, six pigs received intravitreal injections of BEV in one eye and TA in the fellow eye, with three pigs serving as untreated BRVO controls. Three untreated pigs served as healthy controls. Expression of mRNA of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), dystrophin (DMD), potassium inwardly rectifying channel subfamily J member 10 protein (Kir4.1, KCNJ10), aquaporin-4 (AQP4), stromal cell-derived factor-1α (CXCL12), interleukin-6 (IL6), interleukin-8 (IL8), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (CCL2), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1), and heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) were analyzed by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Retinal VEGF protein levels were characterized by immunohistochemistry. Results: In untreated eyes, BRVO significantly increased expression of GFAP, IL8, CCL2, ICAM1, HSF1, and AQP4. Expression of VEGF, KCNJ10, and CXCL12 was significantly reduced by 6 days post-BRVO, with expression recovering to healthy control levels by day 20. Treatment with BEV or TA significantly increased VEGF, DMD, and IL6 expression compared with untreated BRVO eyes and suppressed BRVO-induced CCL2 and AQP4 upregulation, as well as recovery of KCNJ10 expression, at 10 to 20 days post-BRVO. Conclusions: Inflammation and cellular osmohomeostasis rather than VEGF suppression appear to play important roles in BRVO-induced retinal neurodegeneration, enhanced in both BEV- and TA-treated retinas. Translational Relevance: Inner retinal neurodegeneration seen in this acute model of BRVO appears to be mediated by inflammation and alterations in osmohomeostasis rather than VEGF inhibition, which may have implications for more specific treatment modalities in the acute phase of BRVO.

BACKGROUND: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a proliferative disorder of the developing retina. Intravitreal bevacizumab injection (IVB) is an emerging treatment for severe forms of ROP, which does not restrict the visual field in comparison to laser therapy. The present study aimed to determine and evaluate the risk factors for ROP recurrence following IVB injection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, 98 eyes of 49 infants with ROP who had received IVB injections as the primary treatment for type 1 ROP are included. RESULTS: Fifty-four eyes (55.1%) had aggressive retinopathy of prematurity (A-ROP), and forty-four (44.9%) had Stage III Plus ROP in Zone II. ROP recurred in 13 eyes (13.26%) of 8 infants. The mean period between IVB and the ROP recurrence was 8.08 (95% CI:5.32-10.83) weeks. The infants who had ROP recurrence had lower birth weight (P value = 0.002), lower postmenstrual age at IVB injection (P value = 0.001), lower IVB injection gap period from birth (P value = 0.044), higher oxygen therapy requirement rate after IVB injection (P value < 0.001, OR:19.0) and higher oxygen therapy duration (P value = 0.006). The ROP severity, gestational age at birth, and diet were not statistically different between the recurrence and complete regression groups. Out of 13 eyes treated with laser photocoagulation because of ROP relapse, macula dragging occurred in one eye, and all the cases met the complete regression. CONCLUSION: Low birth weight and oxygen therapy are the most important risk factors for ROP relapse, which requires meticulous oxygen treatment guidelines for premature infants.

ABSTRACT

Both atezolizumab (a PD-L1 inhibitor) plus bevacizumab (A+B) and sintilimab (a PD-1 inhibitor) plus bevacizumab (S+B) are recommended as the first-line regimen for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in China. Different efficacy between the two regimens combined with transvascular intervention for unresectable HCC (uHCC) remain unknown. We retrospectively analyzed uHCC patients treated in three centers by simultaneous combination of A+B or S+B with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and FOLFOX-based hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC). Objective response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) were compared. Totally 188 patients were included, with 92 and 96 administered A+B+TACE-HAIC (ABTH) and S+B+TACE-HAIC (SBTH), respectively. ORRs (62.0 vs. 70.8%, respectively; P = 0.257) and disease control rates (88.0 vs. 93.8%, P = 0.267) were similar between groups by the mRECIST criteria. ABTH showed no survival advantage over SBTH, with median PFS times of 11.7 months and 13.0 months, respectively (HR = 0.81, 95% CI, 0.52-1.26, P = 0.35) and similar OS times (HR = 1.19, 95% CI, 0.32-4.39, P = 0.8). No significant differences were observed in grade 3-4 TRAEs between groups. Either PD-L1 or PD-1 inhibitor plus bevacizumab combined with TACE-HAIC have similarly excellent therapeutic efficacy with manageable adverse events, representing promising treatment options for uHCC.

ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is one of the most common and deadliest cancers. Preclinical models are essential to study new therapies and combinations taking tumor genetics into account. We have established cell lines expressing the luciferase gene from lines with varied genetic backgrounds, commonly encountered in patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. We have characterized these lines by testing their response to multiple drugs. Thus, we have developed orthotopic preclinical mouse models of NSCLC with very high engraftment efficiency. These models allow the easy monitoring of tumor growth, particularly in response to treatment, and of tumor cells dissemination in the body. We show that concomitant treatment with osimertinib (3rd generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting mutated EGFR) and bevacizumab (anti-angiogenic targeting VEGF) can have a beneficial therapeutic effect on EGFR-mutated tumors. We also show that the addition of afatinib to osimertinib-treated tumors in escape leads to tumor growth inhibition. No such effect is observed with selumetinib or simvastatin. These preclinical mouse models therefore make it possible to test innovative therapeutic combinations and are also a tool of choice for studying resistance mechanisms.

ABSTRACT

AIM: Atezolizumab and bevacizumab (Atezo/Bev) combination immunotherapy regimens and direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are both associated with bleeding. Therefore, combining Atezo/Bev regimens with DOACs may exacerbate the bleeding risk. This study investigated the feasibility of the Atezo/Bev regimen in patients taking DOACs. METHODS: This retrospective study included 141 patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or advanced lung cancer (LC) treated with Atezo/Bev regimens. Patients who used antithrombotic agents other than DOACs were excluded. Bleeding events during the Atezo/Bev regimen were analyzed. RESULTS: The incidence rates of bleeding of any grade in the DOAC (n = 11) and no antithrombotic agent (NAA) (n = 130) groups were 9.1% and 10.8%, respectively, with no significant differences. Moreover, no significant difference was found in the frequency of bleeding of grade ≥3 between the DOAC and NAA groups. No patients in the DOAC group discontinued the Atezo/Bev regimen because of severe bleeding. Although serum albumin levels, with a hazard ratio (HR) of 0.298 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.105-0.847), independently contributed to bleeding events (p = 0.023), DOAC administration did not (HR: 1.357; 95% CI: 0.157-10.54; p = 0.770). Among only patients with HCC (n = 59), none of the five patients taking DOACs experienced bleeding events. A high albumin-bilirubin score (HR: 9.083, 95% CI: 1.118-73.76) was associated with bleeding events (p = 0.039). CONCLUSIONS: DOACs did not have a considerable effect on bleeding events in the Atezo/Bev regimens for HCC or LC. Under careful surveillance for bleeding, Atezo/Bev regimens may be feasible in patients receiving DOACs.

ABSTRACT

This article presents an overview of treatment regimens of drugs containing antivascular endothelial growth factor for the treatment of neovascular form of age-related macular degeneration. Currently, drugs containing antivascular endothelial growth factor are the only effective treatment for this chronic and progressive disease. The treatment regimens for this disease in the last two decades have seen a shift from a simple endeavor to stabilize the disease to achieving maximum improvement of visual acuity and its maintenance, with improvement of the patient's quality of life and a minimal treatment burden on patients and their families. Other goals of the alternative dosing regimens that have replaced the original fixed regimens were greater individualization of the dosing regimen, better patient cooperation, saving financial costs and reducing the burden on application centers. Age-related macular degeneration, whether dry form or wet form, represents a serious health and socioeconomic problem, as the disease is one of the most common causes of severe and irreversible central visual acuity disorders up to the degree of practical blindness of one or both eyes in people over 50 years of age in developed industrialized countries. The most important issue is to ensure early diagnosis of this disease, followed by prompt and continuous treatment with an individualized proactive treatment regimen, with the aim of stabilizing and improving anatomical and functional results.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: HER2 is an infrequently mutated driver gene in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). At present, there has been no comprehensive large-scale clinical study to establish the optimal first-line treatment strategy for advanced lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) with HER2-Mutant. Besides that, the effectiveness and safety of pyrotinib, a pan-HER inhibitor, in the context of NSCLC are still undergoing investigation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, we conducted a retrospective data collection of HER2-Mutated advanced LUAD who received first-line treatment and pyrotinib between May 2014 and June 2023. Patients treated with chemotherapy, chemotherapy + immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), chemotherapy + bevacizumab and pyrotinib in first-line treatment. Furthermore, we collected data on the efficacy and safety of pyrotinib in these patients after disease progression. The main endpoint of the study was progression-free survival (PFS). RESULTS: In the final analysis, 89 patients were included in the first-line cohort and 30 patients were included in the pyrotinib cohort. In the first-line treatment cohort, chemotherapy + ICIs, chemotherapy + bevacizumab, and pyrotinib exhibited notable survival benefits compared to chemotherapy (median PFS: 9.87 vs. 7.77 vs. 7.10 vs. 5.40 months, p-value < 0.05). Furthermore, patients with a first-line treatment PFS of less than 6 months may potentially benefit from subsequent treatment with pyrotinib (median PFS: 7.467 vs. 3.000, p-value = 0.0490). CONCLUSIONS: In the first-line treatment of HER2-Mutant LUAD, regimens involving combinations like chemotherapy + ICIs, chemotherapy + bevacizumab, and pyrotinib may confer enhanced survival advantages compared to chemotherapy. Nevertheless, no significant distinctions were observed among these three treatment strategies, underscoring the imperative to identify biomarkers for the discerning selection of suitable therapeutic modalities. Moreover, patients with suboptimal response to first-line treatment may potentially derive more benefit from pyrotinib.

BACKGROUND: Patients with DNA mismatch repair-proficient/microsatellite stable (pMMR/MSS) colorectal cancer (CRC), which accounts for 85% of all CRC cases, display a poor respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors (i.e., anti-PD-1 antibodies). pMMR/MSS CRC patients with locally advanced cancers need effective combined therapies. METHODS: In this pilot study, we administered six preoperative doses of each 2-week cycle of the anti-PD-1 antibody sintilimab (at a fixed dose of 200 mg), oxaliplatin, and 5-FU/CF (mFOLFOX6) combined with five doses of bevacizumab (the number of doses was reduced to prevent surgical delays) to patients with cT4NxM0 colon or upper rectal cancers. And radical surgery was performed approximately 2 weeks after the last dose of neoadjuvant therapy. The primary endpoint was a pathologic complete response (pCR). We also evaluated major pathologic response (MPR, ≤10% residual viable tumor), radiological and pathological regression, safety, and tumor mutation burden (TMB), and tumor microenvironment (TME) characteristics. RESULTS: By the cutoff date (September 2023), 22 patients with cT4NxM0 pMMR/MSS colon or upper rectal cancers were enrolled and the median follow-up was 24.7 months (IQR: 21.1-26.1). All patients underwent R0 surgical resection without treatment-related surgical delays. pCR occurred in 12 of 22 resected tumors (54.5%) and MPR occurred in 18 of 22 (81.8%) patients. At the cutoff date, all patients were alive, and 21/22 were recurrence-free. Treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or higher occurred in of 2/22 (9.1%) patients. Among the pCR tumors, two were found to harbor POLE mutations. The degree of pathological regression was significantly greater than that of radiological regression (p = 1.35 × 10-8). The number of CD3+/CD4+ cells in the tumor and stroma in pretreated biopsied tissues was markedly lower in pCR tumors than in non-pCR tumors (p = 0.038 and p = 0.015, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Neoadjuvant sintilimab combined with bevacizumab and mFOLFOX6 was associated with few side effects, did not delay surgery, and led to pCR and non-pCR in 54.5% and 81.8% of the cases, respectively. Downregulation of CD3/CD4 expression in the tumor and stroma is related to pCR. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying PD-1 blockade-enhanced targeted chemotherapy require further investigation.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: This study aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of atezolizumab + bevacizumab therapy in hepatocellular carcinoma patients receiving anti-platelet agents or anticoagulants. METHODS: Patients were divided into those using (IM out) and those not using (IM in) anti-platelet agents or anticoagulants, who violated the exclusion criteria of the IMbrave150 trial, and were retrospectively examined. RESULTS: The study included 185 patients (IM in: 157; IM out: 28). For first-line treatment, progression-free survival was 184 days for IM in and 266 days for IM out (p = .136). Overall survival was 603 days for IM in and not reached for IM out (p = .265), with no significant between-group difference. Similarly, there were no significant between-group differences in progression-free survival or overall survival for later-line treatment. Haemorrhagic adverse events of ≥grade 3 were observed in 11 IM in patients and 3 IM out patients. No significant factors associated with haemorrhagic adverse events of ≥grade 3 were identified in the multivariate analysis including IM out classification, whose p value was .547. Regarding thrombotic/embolic adverse events in the IM out group, one case of exacerbation of portal vein thrombosis was observed. No deaths were directly attributable to bleeding events or exacerbations of thrombosis. CONCLUSION: Atezolizumab + bevacizumab therapy shows similar safety and efficacy in patients receiving and those not receiving anti-platelet agents or anticoagulants; therefore, it can be considered for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma receiving anti-platelet agents or anticoagulants.
