ABSTRACT

Currently, a new non-subtractive drilling technique, called osseodensification (OD), has been developed. It involves using specially designed drills with large negative cutting angles that rotate counterclockwise, causing expansion through plastic bone deformation, thus compacting the autologous bone to the osteotomy walls, which improves the primary stability of the implant. The present systematic review aimed to determine whether the OD technique can increase the primary stability of dental implants in the posterior maxilla region as compared to the conventional drilling (CD) technique.Five databases were searched up to June 30, 2022. The inclusion criteria embraced observational clinical studies, randomized and non-randomized controlled trials, human studies in vivo, comparing OD and CD, with the measurement of the primary stability of implants in the posterior maxilla region by means of the implant stability quotient (ISQ). The tools used to assess the risk of bias were RoB 2 and the NewcastleOttawa Scale (NOS).Seven articles met the inclusion criteria, with 4 classified as having a low risk of bias and 3 with a moderate risk of bias. The OD technique consistently demonstrated an average ISQ value of 73 KHz across all studies, whereas CD yielded an average value of 58.49 kHz (p < 0.001 for 5 articles). It can be concluded that in comparison with CD, OD improves primary stability at baseline in low-density bone, such as the maxilla.

ABSTRACT

One of the most frequent cosmetic dental problems is the presence of black triangles due to the loss of the interdental papilla. There are several surgical and non-surgical treatment options to correct this anomaly, among the most innovative and less invasive we found the use of an injectable gel of hyaluronic acid for the reconstruction of the interdental papilla. The objective of the study was to carry out a bibliographic compilation on the effectiveness of hyaluronic acid as a treatment for the reconstruction of the interdental papilla.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Determine the effectiveness of crown polishing in the maintenance periodontal support therapy for the control and reduction of the clinical sings of periodontal disease.METHODS: A randomized controlled clinical trial was carried out with 31 patients with diagnosed chronic periodontitis who were under periodontal maintenance phase, with a minimum of 20 teeth in mouth, non smokers and smoking less than 5 cigarrettes/day,without systemic compromise, orthodontic devices or previous antibiotic therapy (6 months). An operator collected the information for the O’Leary dental plaque, Lenox & Kopczyk gingival bleeding, and periodontal extension and severity indexes. Once support procedures were done, a second blind operator selected at random one side of the mouth to apply crown polishing; the other side was not applied the procedure. One month later, the first operator collected data corresponding to the selected indexes. The possible association between the variables was established with the Wilcoxon T testRESULTS: There was not found significant statistical difference between any of the clinical signs of the periodontal disease analyzed between the control and experimental groups. CONCLUSIONS: The crown polishing used as contributory in the periodontal maintenance therapy does not provide additional benefit regarding the decreasing in dental plaque accumulation, gingival bleeding or extension and severity of periodontal disease within short periods of time.
