ABSTRACT

The design of boron-based molecular rotors stems from boron-carbon binary clusters containing multiple planar hypercoordinate carbons (phCs, such as C2B8). However, the design of boron-coordinated phCs is challenging due to boron's tendency to occupy hypercoordinate centers more than carbon. Although this challenge has been addressed, the designed clusters of interest have not exhibited dynamic fluxionality similar to that of the initial C2B8. To address this issue, we report a σ/π doubly aromatic CB2H5+ cluster, the first global minimum containing a boron-coordinated planar tetracoordinate carbon atom with dynamic fluxionality. Dynamics simulations show that two ligand H atoms exhibit alternate rotation, resulting in an intriguing dynamic fluxionality in this cluster. Electronic structure analysis reveals the flexible bonding positions of the ligand H atoms because they do not participate in π delocalized bonding nor bond to any other non-carbon atom, highlighting this rotational fluxionality. Unprecedentedly, the fluxional process involves not only the usual conversion of the number of bonding atoms, but also the type of bonding (3c π bonds ↔ 4c σ bonds), which is an uncommon fluxional mechanism. The cluster represents an effort to apply phC species to molecular machines.

ABSTRACT

The scarcity of reliable devices for diagnosis of Animal African trypanosomiasis (AAT) presents a limitation to control of the disease. Existing high-sensitivity technologies such as PCR are costly, laborious, time-consuming, complex, and require skilled personnel. Hence, utilisation of most diagnostics for AAT is impracticable in rural areas, where the disease occurs. A more accessible point-of-care test (POCT) capable of detecting cryptic active infection, without relying on expensive equipment, would facilitate AAT detection. In turn, early management, would reduce disease incidence and severity. Today, several ongoing research projects aim at modifying complex immunoassays into POCTs. In this context, we report the development of an antigen (Ag) detection sandwich ELISA prototype for diagnosis of T. congolense infections, which is comprised of nanobody (Nb) and monoclonal antibody (mAb) reagents. The Nb474H used here, originated from a past study. Briefly, the Nb was engineered starting from mRNA of peripheral blood lymphocytes of an alpaca immunized with soluble lysate of Trypanosoma congolense (TC13). T. congolense glycosomal fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (TcoALD) was discovered as the cognate Ag of Nb474H. In this study, splenocytes were harvested from a mouse immunized with recombinant TcoALD and fused with NS01 cells to generate a hybridoma library. Random screening of the library on TcoALD retrieved a lone binder, designated IgM8A2. Using Nb474H as Ag-capture reagent in combination with the IgM8A2 monoclonal antibody Ag-detection reagent resulted in a tool that effectively detects native TcoALD released during infection by T. congolense parasites. Hitherto, development of POCT for detection of active trypanosome infection is elusive. The Nanobody/Monoclonal Antibody (Nb/mAb) "hybrid" sandwich technology offers prospects for exploration, using the unique specificity of Nb as a key determinant in Ag capturing, while using the versatility of monoclonal Ab to adapt to various detection conditions.

ABSTRACT

Dimension and solvent molecules affect the performance of energetic metal-organic frameworks (EMOFs). High-dimensional EMOFs are usually characterized by high stability and low sensitivity due to their complex network structure. However, solvent molecules affect the detonation performance of EMOFs, and these molecules may be removed at low temperatures, resulting in structural collapse and affecting the stability of EMOFs. In this work, zero-dimensional (0D) Co(AFTO)2·(H2O)2 (EMOF 1) and Ni(AFTO)2·(H2O)2 (EMOF 2) with coordinated water molecules and [Co(AFTO)2]n·EtOH (EMOF 3) and [Ni(AFTO)2]n (EMOF 4) (AFTO = 5-(4-amino-furazan-3-yl)-1-hydroxytetrazole) with high-dimensional structure were synthesized using hydrothermal and self-assembly methods in ethanol, respectively. Structural and performance tests show that EMOF 3 and 4 exhibit remarkable thermal stability and low mechanical sensitivity. This method is a simple, effective, and green technique for synthesizing high-dimensional EMOFs with high stability through self-assembly in ethanol solution. In addition, EMOF 3 and 4 can be used as primary green laser explosives.

ABSTRACT

Polynitrogen has been widely studied recently as a rising star of high energy density materials. Here, we performed a systematic study of the Zr-N compounds in the N-rich region by the first-principles method. The high-pressure phase diagram of the Zr-N system is enriched by proposing five new compounds. ZrN10 with the infinitely extended band shaped structure is first reported. The band-like polynitrogen of ZrN10 decomposes into a more stable chain-like polynitrogen structure under the influence of temperature. Additionally, the novel honeycomb-like band-shaped N10 structure hcb-N10 has been discovered by removing the Zr atoms. The absence of the -4 oxidation state in the N10 unit prompts its further polymerization, which makes hcb-N10 possess dynamical and thermal stability in ambient conditions. hcb-N10 is a semiconductor with a bandgap of 2.97 eV due to highly localized electrons. Both chain-ZrN10 and hcb-N10 represent potential candidates for HEDMs with outstanding energy and explosive performance.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study investigates the role and effectiveness of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) in oral cancer, focusing on the clinical relevance of EGFR and myeloid cell leukemia-1 (Mcl-1) in head and neck cancers (HNCs). It aims to explore the molecular mechanism of afatinib, a TKI, in treating human oral cancer. METHODS: We conducted an in silico analysis using databases like The Cancer Genome Atlas, Gene Expression Omnibus, and Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium, along with immunohistochemistry staining, to study EGFR and Mcl-1 expression in HNCs. For investigating afatinib's anticancer properties, we performed various in vitro and in vivo analyses, including trypan blue exclusion assay, Western blotting, 4'-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole staining, flow cytometry, quantitative real-time PCR, Mitochondrial membrane potential assay, overexpression vector construction, transient transfection, and a tumor xenograft model. RESULTS: Higher expression levels of EGFR and Mcl-1 were observed in HNC patient tissues compared to normal tissues, with their co-expression significantly linked to poor prognosis. There was a strong correlation between EGFR and Mcl-1 expressions in oral cancer patients. Afatinib treatment induced apoptosis and suppressed Mcl-1 in oral cancer cell lines without the EGFR T790M mutation. The mechanism of afatinib-induced apoptosis involved the EGFR/mTOR/Mcl-1 axis, as shown by the effects of mTOR activator MHY1485 and inhibitor rapamycin. Afatinib also increased Bim expression, mitochondrial membrane permeabilization, and cytochrome c release. It significantly lowered tumor volume without affecting body, liver, and kidney weights. CONCLUSION: Afatinib, targeting the EGFR/mTOR/Mcl-1 axis, shows promise as a therapeutic strategy for oral cancer, especially in patients with high EGFR and Mcl-1 expressions.

ABSTRACT

The identification of chemically different inhibitors that target the colchicine site of tubulin is still of great value for cancer treatment. Combretastatin A-4(CA-4), a naturally occurring colchicine-site binder characterized by its structural simplicity and biological activity, has served as a structural blueprint for the development of novel analogues with improved safety and therapeutic efficacy. In this study, a library of forty-eight 4-phenyl-5-quinolinyl substituted triazole, pyrazole or isoxazole analouges of CA-4, were synthesized and evaluated for their cytotoxicity against Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (ESCC) cell lines. Compound C11, which features a 2-methyl substitution at the quinoline and carries an isoxazole ring, emerged as the most promising, with 48 h IC50s of less than 20 nmol/L against two ESCC cell lines. The findings from EBI competitive assay, CETA, and in vitro tubulin polymerization assay of C11 are consistent with those of the positive control colchicine, demonstrating the clear affinity of compound C11 to the colchicine binding site. The subsequent cellular-based mechanism studies revealed that C11 significantly inhibited ESCC cell proliferation, arrested cell cycle at the M phase, induced apoptosis, and impeded migration. Experiments conducted in vivo further confirmed that C11 effectively suppressed the growth of ESCC without showing any toxicity towards the selected animal species. Overall, our research suggests that the tubulin polymerization inhibitor incorporating quinoline and the isoxazole ring may deserve consideration for cancer therapy.

ABSTRACT

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is pivotal in the field of major depressive disorder treatment. Due to its unsatisfied response rate, an increasing number of researchers have turned their attention towards optimizing TMS site localization. Since the influence of TMS in reducing heart rate (HR) offers insights into its regulatory impact on the autonomic nervous system, a novel approach, called neurocardiac-guided TMS (NCG-TMS), has been proposed to pinpoint the brain region eliciting the maximal individual reduction in HR as a personalized optimal stimulation target. The present study intends to systematically explore the effects of stimulation frequency, left and right hemispheres, stimulation positions, and individual differences on HR modulation using the NCG-TMS method. In experiment 1, low-frequency TMS was administered to 30 subjects, and it was found that low-frequency NCG-TMS significantly downregulated HR, with more significant effects in the right hemisphere than in the left hemisphere and the prefrontal cortex than in other brain areas. In experiment 2, high-frequency NCG-TMS stimulation was administered to 30 subjects, showing that high-frequency NCG-TMS also downregulated HR and had the greatest modulatory effect in the right prefrontal region. Simultaneously, both experiments revealed sizeable individual variability in the optimal stimulation site, which in turn validated the feasibility of the NCG-TMS method. In conclusion, the present experiments independently replicated the effect of NCG-TMS, provided an effect of high-/low-frequency TMS stimulation to downregulate HR, and identified a right lateralization of the HR modulation effect.

Aim: In China, with the increase of life expectancy and the decrease of fertility rate, the aging problem has become increasingly prominent, and the physical problems of the older people over 70 years are the key and difficult problems. Method: Based on the interactive logic between the aging problem and the older people health, in the study, a questionnaire survey and a nationwide physical fitness test were carried out on the older people over 70, to divide into different age groups (70-74 years old, 75-79 years old, 80-84 years old, 85 years old and older) and different genders. There were 8,400 valid samples, and 1,050 persons in each group. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the differences among groups of different ages, and a broken line chart was drawn to discuss the aging characteristics of various physical indexes of the older people over 70 in China. Result: (1) Body morphology: male waist circumference, male waist-to-height ratio and female BMI showed a gradual downward trend with the increase of age; (2) Physiological function: male and female vital capacity showed a decreasing trend with the increase of age, while female pulse pressure showed a gradual upward trend. (3) Physical quality: the indicators of male and female muscle strength, flexibility quality, aerobic endurance and balance showed a downward trend with the increase of age. Conclusion: Vital capacity, flexibility quality, muscle strength, aerobic endurance, balance ability and so on, decreased significantly with the growth of age. 80 years old is the inflection point of the rapid decline of various indicators. Blood pressure, silent pulse, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-height ratio and other indicators did not change regularly with age. Indicators such as blood pressure, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio and waist-to-height ratio were in the high-risk range of metabolic diseases and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The study conducted physical fitness test on the older people over 70 years old in 7 geographical regions of China, which is the first nationwide physical fitness test for the older people, which is an extension and expansion of the national physical fitness monitoring system, and also shows that the test indicators involved in the "Health fitness scale" are simple and feasible. And the study added a series of test data over 70 years old, which is the basis for scientific and reasonable formulation of physical fitness evaluation standards for the older people, and is of great significance for improving the national physical fitness database and grasping the dynamic changes of national physical health status, and providing data support for scientific guidance of physical exercise for the older people.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: This study aims to identify the cause of disinfection failure of multiple flexible gastrointestinal endoscopes and to enhance the cleaning and disinfection procedures. METHODS: Samples from endoscopy devices, surrounding objects, cleaning water, automatic sterilizer, and integrated endoscopic washing workstation in a Digestive Endoscopy Center were collected and analyzed for microbial contamination and DNA/gene contents, between May and July 2021. RESULTS: The sample analysis revealed that the sink irrigation tubing of the washing workstation was contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia. After effective disinfection measures, the B. cepacia detection in the disinfected endoscope dropped from 13.23% to 0% (p=0.041). The presence of B. cepacia was confirmed through homology search and gene sequencing. CONCLUSIONS: The primary reason for endoscope disinfection failure is the contamination of the sink irrigation tubing by the B. cepacia bacteria. These findings emphasize the need for thorough cleaning of irrigation tubings in integrated endoscopic washing workstations, which is generally neglected in routine maintanance.

BACKGROUND: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a chronic disease with an increasing incidence, which can further develop into liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma at the end stage. Alantolactone (Ala), a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from Asteraceae, has shown anti-inflammatory effects in different models. However, the therapeutic effect of Ala on NAFLD is not clear. METHODS: C57BL/6 mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) to induce NAFLD. After 16 weeks, Ala was administered by gavage to observe its effect on NAFLD. RNA sequencing of liver tissues was performed to investigate the mechanism. In vitro, mouse cell line AML-12 was pretreated with Ala to resist palmitic acid (PA)-induced inflammation, oxidative stress and fibrosis. RESULTS: Ala significantly inhibited inflammation, fibrosis and oxidative stress in HFD-induced mice, as well as PA-induced AML-12 cells. Mechanistic studies showed that the effect of Ala was related to the induction of Nrf2 and the inhibition of NF-κB. Taken together, these findings suggested that Ala exerted a liver protective effect on NAFLD by blocking inflammation and oxidative stress. CONCLUSIONS: The study found that Ala exerted a liver protective effect on NAFLD by blocking inflammation and oxidative stress, suggesting that Ala is an effective therapy for NAFLD.

ABSTRACT

Muscle mass depletion is associated with mortality and morbidity in various conditions including sepsis. However, few studies have evaluated muscle mass using point-of-care ultrasound in patients with sepsis. This study aimed to evaluate the association between thigh muscle mass, evaluated using point-of-care ultrasound with panoramic view in patients with sepsis in the emergency department, and mortality. From March 2021 to October 2022, this prospective observational study used sepsis registry. Adult patients who were diagnosed with sepsis at the emergency department and who underwent point-of-care ultrasounds for lower extremities were included. The thigh muscle mass was evaluated by the cross-sectional area of the quadriceps femoris (CSA-QF) on point-of-care ultrasound using panoramic view. The primary outcome was 28 day mortality. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard model was performed. Of 112 included patients with sepsis, mean CSA-QF was significantly lower in the non-surviving group than surviving group (49.6 [34.3-56.5] vs. 63.2 [46.9-79.6] cm2, p = 0.002). Each cm2 increase of mean CSA-QF was independently associated with decreased 28 day mortality (adjusted hazard ratio 0.961, 95% CI 0.928-0.995, p = 0.026) after adjustment for potential confounders. The result of other measurements of CSA-QF were similar. The muscle mass of the quadriceps femoris evaluated using point-of-care ultrasound with panoramic view was associated with mortality in patients with sepsis. It might be a promising tool for determining risk factors for mortality in sepsis patients in the early stages of emergency department.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the value of single-phase gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) stimulation test in the diagnosis of central precocious puberty (CPP) in girls with different levels of body mass index (BMI). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed for the data of 760 girls with breast development before 7.5 years of age who attended the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2017 to August 2023. According to the results of GnRH stimulation test and clinical manifestations, they were divided into a CPP group (297 girls) and a non-CPP group (463 girls). According to the values of BMI, the girls were divided into a normal weight group (540 girls), an overweight group (116 girls), and an obese group (104 girls). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to investigate the value of single-phase GnRH stimulation test in the diagnosis of CPP in girls with different levels of BMI. RESULTS: Luteinizing hormone (LH)/follicle-stimulating hormone at 30 minutes after GnRH stimulation had an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.985 in the diagnosis of CPP, which was higher than the AUC at 0, 60, and 90 minutes (P<0.05). LH at 30 minutes had a similar diagnostic value to LH at 60 minutes (P>0.05). LH at 30 minutes was negatively correlated with BMI and BMI-Z value (P<0.05).The AUC for diagnosing CPP in normal weight, overweight, and obese girls at 30 minutes LH was 0.952, 0.965, and 0.954, respectively (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The 30-minute GnRH stimulation test has a good value in the diagnosis of CPP in girls with different levels of BMI and is expected to replace the traditional GnRH stimulation test, but the influence of BMI on LH level should be taken seriously.

ABSTRACT

Oxidative stress induced endothelial dysfunction plays a particularly important role in promoting the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Salvianolic acid A (SalA) is a water-soluble component of traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge with anti-oxidant potency. This study aims to explore the regulatory effect of SalA on oxidative injury using an in vitro model of H2O2-induced injury in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). In the study, we determined cell viability, the activities of Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD), cell proliferation rate and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). Flow cytometry was used to detect cell apoptosis. Western-blotting was used to evaluate the expression of cell senescence, apoptosis, autophagy and pyroptosis protein factors. The expression level of miRNA was determined by qRT-PCR. Compared with H2O2-induced HUVECs, SalA promoted cell viability and cell proliferation rate; decreased LDH and ROS levels; and increased SOD activity. SalA also significantly attenuated endothelial senescence, inhibited cell apoptosis, reversed the increase of LC3 II/I ratio and NLRP3 accumulation. Furthermore, miR-204-5p was regulated by SalA. Importantly, miR-204-5p inhibitor had similar effect to that of SalA on H2O2-induced HUVECs. Our results indicated that SalA could alleviate H2O2-induced oxidative injury by downregulating miR-204-5p in HUVECs.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), a serious complication of diabetes, leads to structural and functional abnormalities of the heart and ultimately evolves to heart failure. IL-37 exerts a substantial influence on the regulation of inflammation and metabolism. Whether IL-37 is involved in DCM is unknown. METHODS: The plasma samples were collected from healthy controls, diabetic patients and DCM patients, and the level of IL-37 and its relationship with heart function were observed. The changes in cardiac function, myocardial fibrosis and mitochondrial injury in DCM mice with or without IL-37 intervention were investigated in vivo. By an in vitro co-culture approach involving HG challenge of cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts, the interaction carried out by cardiomyocytes on fibroblast profibrotic activation was studied. Finally, the possible interactive mediator between cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts was explored, and the intervention role of IL-37 and its relevant molecular mechanisms. RESULTS: We showed that the level of plasma IL-37 in DCM patients was upregulated compared to that in healthy controls and diabetic patients. Both recombinant IL-37 administration or inducing IL-37 expression alleviated cardiac dysfunction and myocardial fibrosis in DCM mice. Mechanically, hyperglycemia impaired mitochondria through SIRT1/AMPK/PGC1α signaling, resulting in significant cardiomyocyte apoptosis and the release of extracellular vesicles containing mtDNA. Fibroblasts then engulfed these mtDNA-enriched vesicles, thereby activating TLR9 signaling and the cGAS-STING pathway to initiate pro-fibrotic process and adverse remodeling. However, the presence of IL-37 ameliorated mitochondrial injury by preserving the activity of SIRT1-AMPK-PGC1α axis, resulting in a reduction in release of mtDNA-enriched vesicle and ultimately attenuating the progression of DCM. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, our study demonstrates a protective role of IL-37 in DCM, offering a promising therapeutic agent for this disease.

ABSTRACT

Arylamines, serving as crucial building blocks in natural products and finding applications in multifunctional materials, are synthesized on a large scale via an electrophilic nitration/reduction sequence. However, the current methods for aromatic C-H amination have not yet attained the same level of versatility as electrophilic nitration. Here we show an extensively investigated transition metal-free and regioselective strategy for the amination of nitrobenzenes, enabling the synthesis of 4-nitro-N-arylamines through C(sp2)-H/N-H cross-coupling between electron-deficient nitroarenes and amines. Mechanistic studies have elucidated that the crucial aspects of these reactions encompass the generation of nitrogen radicals and recombination of nitrobenzene complex radicals. The C(sp2)-N bond formation is demonstrated to be highly effective for primary and secondary arylamines as well as aliphatic amines under mild conditions, exhibiting exceptional tolerance towards diverse functional groups in both nitroarenes and amines (>100 examples with yields up to 96%). Notably, this C(sp2)-H/N-H cross-coupling exhibits exclusive para-selectivity.

In the face of the unprecedented public health crisis caused by the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, front-line health workers are under enormous mental pressure. This paper aims to explore the mental health challenges faced by front-line health workers in the early stages of a public health emergency, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. At the same time, the factors that increase their mental stress are analyzed, and practical measures are put forward to prevent and manage mental health problems, aiming at improving the quality of medical treatment during public health emergencies. This paper has some reference value for people engaged in mental health prevention.

ABSTRACT

Substantial numbers of somatic mutations have been found to accumulate with age in different human tissues. Clonal cellular amplification of some of these mutations can cause cancer and other diseases. However, it is as yet unclear if and to what extent an increased burden of random mutations can affect cellular function without clonal amplification. We tested this in cell culture, which avoids the limitation that an increased mutation burden in vivo typically leads to cancer. We performed single-cell whole-genome sequencing of primary fibroblasts from DNA mismatch repair (MMR) deficient Msh2-/- mice and littermate control animals after long-term passaging. Apart from analyzing somatic mutation burden we analyzed clonality, mutational signatures, and hotspots in the genome, characterizing the complete landscape of somatic mutagenesis in normal and MMR-deficient mouse primary fibroblasts during passaging. While growth rate of Msh2-/- fibroblasts was not significantly different from the controls, the number of de novo single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) increased linearly up until at least 30,000 SNVs per cell, with the frequency of small insertions and deletions (INDELs) plateauing in the Msh2-/- fibroblasts to about 10,000 INDELS per cell. We provide evidence for negative selection and large-scale mutation-driven population changes, including significant clonal expansion of preexisting mutations and widespread cell-strain-specific hotspots. Overall, our results provide evidence that increased somatic mutation burden drives significant cell evolutionary changes in a dynamic cell culture system without significant effects on growth. Since similar selection processes against mutations preventing organ and tissue dysfunction during aging are difficult to envision, these results suggest that increased somatic mutation burden can play a causal role in aging and diseases other than cancer.

BACKGROUND: Aplastic anemia (AA) presents a significant clinical challenge as a life-threatening condition due to failure to produce essential blood cells, with the current therapeutic options being notably limited. AIM: To assess the therapeutic potential of ginsenoside Rg1 on AA, specifically its protective effects, while elucidating the mechanism at play. METHODS: We employed a model of myelosuppression induced by cyclophosphamide (CTX) in C57 mice, followed by administration of ginsenoside Rg1 over 13 d. The investigation included examining the bone marrow, thymus and spleen for pathological changes via hematoxylin-eosin staining. Moreover, orbital blood of mice was collected for blood routine examinations. Flow cytometry was employed to identify the impact of ginsenoside Rg1 on cell apoptosis and cycle in the bone marrow of AA mice. Additionally, the study further evaluated cytokine levels with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and analyzed the expression of key proteins in the MAPK signaling pathway via western blot. RESULTS: Administration of CTX led to significant damage to the bone marrow's structural integrity and a reduction in hematopoietic cells, establishing a model of AA. Ginsenoside Rg1 successfully reversed hematopoietic dysfunction in AA mice. In comparison to the AA group, ginsenoside Rg1 provided relief by reducing the induction of cell apoptosis and inflammation factors caused by CTX. Furthermore, it helped alleviate the blockade in the cell cycle. Treatment with ginsenoside Rg1 significantly alleviated myelosuppression in mice by inhibiting the MAPK signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: This study suggested that ginsenoside Rg1 addresses AA by alleviating myelosuppression, primarily through modulating the MAPK signaling pathway, which paves the way for a novel therapeutic strategy in treating AA, highlighting the potential of ginsenoside Rg1 as a beneficial intervention.

ABSTRACT

Transition metal selenides have high theoretical capacities, making them attractive candidates for energy storage applications. Here, using the microwave-absorbing properties of the materials, we designed a simple and efficient microwave-assisted synthesis method to produce a composite made of nanospheres Ni0.5Co0.5Se2 (NCSe) and highly conductive, stable Ti3C2Tx MXene. The Ni0.5Co0.5Se2/Ti3C2Tx composites are characterized via scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The findings indicate that 3D Ni0.5Co0.5Se2 bimetallic selenide nanospheres were uniformly loaded within the few-layer Ti3C2Tx MXene wrapper in a short period. The optimal NCSe/Ti3C2Tx-2 electrode can demonstrate a specific capacitance of 752.4 F g-1 at 1 A g-1. Furthermore, the asymmetric supercapacitor combined with activated carbon maintains a capacitance retention of 110% even after 5000 cycles. The method of directly growing active substances on few-layer Ti3C2Tx MXene will provide inspiration for the manufacture of high-pseudocapacitance supercapacitors.
