ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To test hypothesis that music embedded with binaural beats can boost activity of parasympathetic part of autonomic nervous system (PPANS) with the development of nap. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The power of high-frequency component of heart rate variability spectrum computed on successive 2-minute intervals during 20-minute nap was a comparison criterion. The criterion was compared during nap accompanied by music with embedded binaural beats (stimulus condition) and nap in silence (control condition). RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Statistical comparison revealed the increase of PPANS activity during nap in stimulus condition vs. control condition. It is consistent with conclusions of other papers about positive effect of sound stimuli embedded with binaural beats on PPANS.

ABSTRACT

An all-fiber 1.48-mum generator based on a laser-diode-pumped Yb-doped double-clad laser and a cascaded Raman wavelength converter has been developed. Second-order Raman Stokes radiation was generated in a phosphosilicate-fiber resonator formed by two pairs of Bragg gratings. A slope efficiency of the Raman converter of 48% with respect to the power emitted by the double-clad Yb laser has been achieved. We obtained an output power of 1 W at a slope efficiency of 34% with respect to the laser-diode array power, with a total optical-to-optical efficiency of 23%.

ABSTRACT

A question has been raised on the necessity to substitute the hypothesis of the biological effectiveness of ionizing irradiations as a paradigm of radiation hygiene for the linear--++non-threshold hypothesis. A comparison of the methodological substantiation fo both hypotheses and a conception of "acceptable risk" has been carried out. It is suggested, that the possibility of theoretical substantiation of setting standards for the radiation factor on the basis of adaptational hypothesis be acknowledge instead of the linear--++non-threshold conception which has lost its historic significance.

ABSTRACT

The article deals with clinical experience in early diagnosis of pancreatonecrosis in which enzymological methods of examination acquire importance. The most informative test in the diagnosis of fatty pancreatonecrosis is the increase of the pancreatic lipase content in blood serum, particularly in stimulation of pancreatic secretion by pancreozymin. A new Soviet-produced peptide agent--dalargin was included in the complex drug treatment of fatty pancreatonecrosis in 74 patients. With the use of dalargin as an inhibitor of the activity of pancreatic enzymes and kinins in the treatment of fatty pancreatonecrosis a marked positive effect was produced. The mortality in fatty pancreatonecrosis was 5.5%.

ABSTRACT

Experience in treating 351 patients with persistent wounds and trophic ulcers by low-intensity laser radiation in out-patient clinics is generalized. Complete epithelialization of the wound or ulcer surface occurred in 236 patients. There were 246 patients aged 60, all were treated without leave from work. Thus, the inclusion of laser therapy in the complex of measures for persistent wounds and trophic ulcers is a highly effective method which may be applied in preoperative management and which will reduce considerably the term of in-patient treatment.
