ABSTRACT

Translating RNA-seq into clinical diagnostics requires ensuring the reliability and cross-laboratory consistency of detecting clinically relevant subtle differential expressions, such as those between different disease subtypes or stages. As part of the Quartet project, we present an RNA-seq benchmarking study across 45 laboratories using the Quartet and MAQC reference samples spiked with ERCC controls. Based on multiple types of 'ground truth', we systematically assess the real-world RNA-seq performance and investigate the influencing factors involved in 26 experimental processes and 140 bioinformatics pipelines. Here we show greater inter-laboratory variations in detecting subtle differential expressions among the Quartet samples. Experimental factors including mRNA enrichment and strandedness, and each bioinformatics step, emerge as primary sources of variations in gene expression. We underscore the profound influence of experimental execution, and provide best practice recommendations for experimental designs, strategies for filtering low-expression genes, and the optimal gene annotation and analysis pipelines. In summary, this study lays the foundation for developing and quality control of RNA-seq for clinical diagnostic purposes.

ABSTRACT

Organophosphates (OPEs) are widely used as flame retardants and additives and thus are commonly detected in the environment. In order to explore their environmental behavior, the concentrations of 13 OPEs in the surface water and sediment of Dongting Lake were analyzed using UPLC-MS/MS. The results showed that 11 OPEs were detected, with detection frequencies of 5.26%-100% and 58.3%-100%, and the concentrations of OPEs were 2.06-2 028 ng·L-1 and 19.6-2 232 ng·g-1 in water and sediment, respectively. Overall, contamination concentrations were ranked in descending order as follows: inflowing rivers, lake area, and outlet, whereas the spatial distribution of concentrations in sediment was inversely proportional to hydrodynamics. The concentration of OPEs in Dongting Lake was at a high level compared with that of domestic and foreign lakes. Among the detected 11 OPEs, tri-iso-butyl phosphate (TnBP) and (TiBP) were dominant in water, accounting for 52.3% and 22.4% of ∑OPEs, respectively. TPhP was the dominant OPEs in sediment, accounting for 31.2% of ∑OPEs. The correlation and principal component analysis indicated that OPEs pollution in Dongting Lake was mainly affected by industrial production emissions, fishery aquaculture, and atmospheric deposition. The assessment results of the risk entropy showed that most of the detected OPEs in water had relatively low ecological risks, whereas the ecological risk of 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) at some sampling points requires further attention.

ABSTRACT

Most of postharvest agricultural produces are perishable due to microorganisms infections and physiological change. Herein, one kind of multifunctional coating film of SC-ECCNPs was developed by incorporating organic nanoparticles of ECCNPs into starch/carboxymethylcellulose (SC) to prolong shelf life of food with excellent performances. The SC-ECCNPs coating was prepared with starch and sodium carboxymethylcellulose as film substrate (SC) to incorporate with organic nanoparticles of ECCNPs formed by integrating epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), cysteine (Cys), and cinnamaldehyde (CA). The incorporation of ECCNPs improves the UV-resistance and physical properties of SC-ECCNPs coating and also endows it with excellent antioxidative and broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. The application possibilities of SC-ECCNPs coating were explored with strawberries and oranges as samples, validating that the SC-ECCNPs coating can prolong the shelf life of fruits at room temperature. The biosafety of the coating was further confirmed with hemolysis and MTT experiments. The SC-ECCNPs coating film was prepared with natural substrates via a simple and green method. The investigation provides an instructive way for developing advanced packaging materials with high performances.

ABSTRACT

Constructing powerful anode/cathode interphases by modulate ion solvation structure is the principle of electrolyte design. However, the methodological and theoretical design principles of electrolyte/solvation structure and their effect on electrochemical performance are still vague. Here, we propose a cationic weakly coordinating-intervention strategy for modulating the Na+ solvation sheathes and constructing robust anode/cathode interphases in sodium-metal batteries. Unlike the local highly concentrated electrolytes, 1,2-difluorobenzene can weakly coordinate with Na+ thus transforming the solvation structure into Na+-anion-incorporated structures and strengthening anode/cathode interphases formation by combining with salt decomposition. Furthermore, the correlations between the electrode interface properties and solvation structure are revealed, which can be tuned by the weakly coordination. Ultimately, the modulated electrolyte achieves 97.5% Coulombic efficiency for 600 cycles in Na‖Cu cells at 1 mA cm-2 and a beneficial lifetime (2500 h) in Na‖Na cells. Meanwhile, Na‖PB cells have achieved long-term operation at 4.8 V, along with operation at wide temperatures.

ABSTRACT

Ionic diodes with environmentally modulated ion-rectifying characteristics have attracted much attention and show great promise in the construction of smart devices with environmental adaptability. One immediate challenge is to integrate stimuli responsiveness and ion rectification into one single ionic diode, which requires a close cooperation of chemical principles and device technologies. Herein, an ionic diode based on a photoresponsive hydrogel with optically mediated ion-rectifying performances is introduced. Relying on the photoresponsive concentration of proton in the hydrogel, the ionic current rectification can be prominently enhanced upon ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. A maximum ionic current rectification ratio of the optically mediated ionic diode about 4 × 105 is achieved. Furthermore, the hydrogel-based diode can serve as an AND logic gate operated by UV light and voltage bias as two independent inputs. As a proof of concept, to use the optically mediated diode is achieved to modulate the feedback of a robot with logic behaviors. This work provides a novel and valuable strategy for designing functional hydrogel-based devices with the integration of stimuli-responsiveness and logic signal processing through chemical approaches.

ABSTRACT

Network neuroscience, especially causal brain network, has facilitated drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) studies, while surgical success rate in patients with DRE is still limited, varying from 30%  âˆ¼  70 %. Predicting surgical outcomes can provide additional guidance to adjust treatment plans in time for poorly predicted curative effects. In this retrospective study, we aim to systematically explore biomarkers for surgical outcomes by causal brain network methods and multicenter datasets. Electrocorticogram (ECoG) recordings from 17 DRE patients with 58 seizures were included. Ictal ECoG within clinically annotated epileptogenic zone (EZ) and non-epileptogenic zone (NEZ) were separately computed using six different algorithms to construct causal brain networks. All the brain network results were divided into two groups, successful and failed surgeries. Statistical results based on the Mann-Whitney-U-test show that: causal connectivity of α -frequency band ( 8  âˆ¼  13 Hz) in EZ calculated by convergent cross mapping (CCM) gains the most significant differences between the surgical success and failure groups, with a P value of 7.85e-08 and Cohen's d effect size of 0.77. CCM-defined EZ brain network can also distinguish the successful and failed surgeries considering clinical covariates (clinical centers, DRE types) with [Formula: see text]. Based on the brain network features, machine learning models were developed to predict the surgical outcomes. Among them, the SVM classifier with Gaussian kernel function and Bayesian optimization demonstrates the highest average accuracy of 84.48% by 5-fold cross-validation, further indicating that the CCM-defined EZ brain network is a reliable biomarker for predicting DRE surgical outcomes.

ABSTRACT

RNA sequencing (RNAseq) technology has become increasingly important in precision medicine and clinical diagnostics, and emerged as a powerful tool for identifying protein-coding genes, performing differential gene analysis, and inferring immune cell composition. Human peripheral blood samples are widely used for RNAseq, providing valuable insights into individual biomolecular information. Blood samples can be classified as whole blood (WB), plasma, serum, and remaining sediment samples, including plasma-free blood (PFB) and serum-free blood (SFB) samples that are generally considered less useful byproducts during the processes of plasma and serum separation, respectively. However, the feasibility of using PFB and SFB samples for transcriptome analysis remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to assess the suitability of employing PFB or SFB samples as an alternative RNA source in transcriptomic analysis. We performed a comparative analysis of WB, PFB, and SFB samples for different applications. Our results revealed that PFB samples exhibit greater similarity to WB samples than SFB samples in terms of protein-coding gene expression patterns, detection of differentially expressed genes, and immunological characterizations, suggesting that PFB can serve as a viable alternative to WB for transcriptomic analysis. Our study contributes to the optimization of blood sample utilization and the advancement of precision medicine research. Background: Diagnosis-related group (DRG) payment policies are increasingly recognized as crucial instruments for addressing health care overprovision and escalating health care costs. The synthetic control method (SCM) has emerged as a robust tool for evaluating the efficacy of health policies worldwide. Methods: This study focused on Panzhihua city in Sichuan Province, a pilot city for DRG payment reform implementation, serving as the treatment group. In contrast, 20 nonpilot cities within the province were utilized as potential control units. A counterfactual control group was constructed to evaluate the changes in average inpatient stay duration and health care organization costs following the DRG payment reform initiated in 2018. Results: Focusing on Panzhihua, Sichuan Province, the analysis reveals that following the reform in March 2018, the average length of hospital stay in Panzhihua decreased by 1.35 days during 2019-2021. Additionally, the average cost per hospitalization dropped by 855.48 RMB, the average cost of medication per hospitalization decreased by 68.51 RMB, and the average cost of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per hospitalization declined by 136.37 RMB. While global evidence backs DRGs for efficiency and cost reduction, challenges persist in addressing emerging issues like new conditions. Conclusion: Since its introduction in 2018, the DRG payment reform in Sichuan Province has effectively reduced both the duration of hospital stays and the operational costs of health care facilities. However, potential drawbacks include compromised service quality and an elevated risk of patient readmission, indicating a need for further refinement in the implementation of DRG payment reforms in China.

The rising global prevalence of microplastics (MPs) has highlighted their diverse toxicological effects. The oxytocin (OT) system in mammals, deeply intertwined with social behaviors, is recognized to be vulnerable to environmental stressors. We hypothesized that MP exposure might disrupt this system, a topic not extensively studied. We investigated the effects of MPs on behavioral neuroendocrinology via the gut-brain axis by exposing adolescent male C57BL/6 mice to varied sizes (5 µm and 50 µm) and concentrations (100 µg/L and 1000 µg/L) of polystyrene MPs over 10 weeks. The results demonstrated that exposure to 50 µm MPs significantly reduced colonic mucin production and induced substantial alterations in gut microbiota. Notably, the 50 µm-100 µg/L group showed a significant reduction in OT content within the medial prefrontal cortex and associated deficits in sociality, along with damage to the blood-brain barrier. Importantly, blocking the vagal pathway ameliorated these behavioral impairments, emphasizing the pivotal role of the gut-brain axis in mediating neurobehavioral outcomes. Our findings confirm the toxicity of MPs on sociality and the corresponding neuroendocrine systems, shedding light on the potential hazards and adverse effects of environmental MPs exposure on social behavior and neuroendocrine frameworks in social mammals, including humans.

ABSTRACT

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria-infected wound healing remains greatly challenging, especially in diabetic patients. Herein, a novel nano-drug delivery based on endogenous glucose-driven cascade reaction is proposed for boosting MDR bacteria-infected diabetic wound healing with high efficacy by improving wound microenvironment and enhancing photodynamic antibacterial activity. The composite nanoagent is first self-assembled by integrating berberine (BBR) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) from natural plant extracts, named as BENPs, which is successively coated with manganese dioxide nanoshells (MnO2 NSs) and glucose oxidase (GOX) to form the final BEMGNPs. The cascade reaction is triggered by glucose at the wound site of diabetes which is specifically catalyzed by GOX in the BEMGNPs to produce gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). That is subsequently to decompose MnO2 NSs in the BEMGNPs to generate oxygen (O2). The BEMGNPs as photosensitizers effectively produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) to enhance the eradication of bacteria with the assistance of O2. Under the synergistic function of the cascaded reaction, the BEMGNPs present excellent antibacterial efficacy even for MDR bacteria. The in vivo experiments explicitly validate that the constructed nano-drug delivery can augment the MDR bacteria-infected diabetic wound healing with excellent biosafety. The as-proposed strategy provides an instructive way to combat ever-threatening MDR bacteria, which particularly is beneficial for diabetic patients.

ABSTRACT

Spinal cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a rare but malignant zoonosis that can cause disability or even death in more than half of patients. Due to the complex pathological features, it is not curable by conventional drugs and surgery, so new therapeutic targets urgently need to be discovered. In this study, we clarify the occurrence of the phenomenon of spinal encapsulation angiogenesis and explore its underlying molecular mechanisms. A co-culture system was established by protoscoleces (PSCs) with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) which showed a high expression level of Nrf2. A short hairpin RNA (shRNA) and Sulforaphane (SFN) affecting the expression of Nrf2 were used to treat HUVECs. The results showed that Nrf2 could promote the tube formation of HUVECs. Nrf2 also exerts a protective effect against HUVECs, which is achieved by promoting NQO1 expression to stabilize ROS levels. Furthermore, autophagy activation significantly promotes angiogenesis in the spinal echinococcosis model (SEM) as a result of Nrf2 regulation of oxidative stress. These results suggest that the ROS/Nrf2/autophagy axis can induce angiogenesis and may be a potential target for the treatment of spinal cystic echinococcosis.

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is the pathogen of a zoonosis that is primarily transmitted by poultry and has severe infectivity and a high fatality rate. Many studies have focused on the role of the NDV fusion (F) protein in the cell-cell membrane fusion process. However, little attention has been given to the heptad repeat region, HR4, which is located in the NDV F2 subunit. Here, site-directed mutants were constructed to study the function of the NDV F protein HR4 region and identify the key amino acids in this region. Nine conserved amino acids were substituted with alanine or the corresponding amino acid of other aligned paramyxoviruses. The desired mutants were examined for changes in fusogenic activity through three kinds of membrane fusion assays and expression and proteolysis through IFA, FACS and WB. The results showed that when conserved amino acids (L81, Y84, L88, L91, L92, P94, L95 and I99) were replaced with alanine, the fusogenic activity of the F protein was abolished, possibly because of failed protein expression not only on the cell surface but also inside cells. These data indicated that the conserved amino acids above in NDV F HR4 are critical for normal protein synthesis and expression, possibly for the stability of the F protein monomer, formation of trimer and conformational changes.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), the most common pathological subtype of kidney cancer, accounts for approximately 70% to 80% of all cases. Histone deacetylase 10 (HDAC10) belongs to the HDAC class IIb subgroup, one of the histone deacetylases (HDAC) family. Previous studies suggest that HDAC10 may regulate the development of multiple tumor types. The specific molecular mechanisms employed by HDAC10 in the etiology of ccRCC still need to be discovered. METHODS: The analysis included examining HDAC10 expression levels and their clinical importance within a cohort of inpatients and ccRCC patients documented in the Tumor Genome Atlas (TCGA). Moreover, the biological functions and underlying molecular mechanisms of HDAC10 were investigated. RESULTS: HDAC10 showed increased expression in ccRCC tumor tissues. Subsequent analysis revealed overexpression of HDAC10 was associated with advanced clinical phenotype and unfavorable prognosis. The absence of HDAC10 significantly decreased ccRCC cell proliferation and migration capabilities. Mechanistic research suggests that HDAC10 may promote RCC development by activating the Notch-1 pathway and downregulating PTEN expression levels. CONCLUSION: In summary, HDAC10 can modulate critical biological processes in ccRCC, including proliferation, migration, and apoptosis. Notably, the Notch-1 pathway and PTEN serve as crucial signaling pathways and target genes through which HDAC10 regulates the progression of ccRCC. These findings offer a novel outlook for ccRCC treatment.

Background: Hypertension is increasingly prevalent among young and middle-aged populations in rural China, accompanied by suboptimal self-management. Given that this population forms the backbone of the labor force, enhancing their self-management capabilities is crucial for improving overall population health. Studies indicate that individuals with good health literacy are more likely to effectively manage their health. Methods: Grounded in the health literacy skills framework, a model was constructed in this study to examine the impact of health literacy on self-management among young and middle-aged hypertensive patients in rural China. Meanwhile, the mediating roles of illness perception and self-efficacy were also verified. Using a multi-stage stratified random sampling method, 338 patients were recruited to participate in the study. Structural equation modeling was utilized to establish the relationship model, and bootstrap tests were carried out to examine the mediating effects. Results: The average self-management score was 70.45 ± 11.36. Health literacy exhibited a positive correlation with self-management (standardized ß = 0.372, p < 0.001). The mediating effects through illness perception and self-efficacy were 0.040 and 0.236, constituting 6.68 and 39.31% of the total effect, respectively. Conclusion: Illness perception and self-efficacy serve as parallel mediators amid the association between health literacy and self-management. Implementing psychological counseling and health education is imperative for augmenting self-management competence and cultivating an adaptive coping mentality.

Identifying tumor-relevant T cell subsets in the peripheral blood (PB) has become a potential strategy for cancer treatment. However, the subset of PB that could be used to treat cancer remains poorly defined. Here, we found that the CX3CR1+ T cell subset in the blood of patients with lung cancer exhibited effector properties and had a higher TCR matching ratio with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) compared to CX3CR1- T cells, as determined by paired single-cell RNA and TCR sequencing. Meanwhile, the anti-tumor activities, effector cytokine production, and mitochondrial function were enhanced in CX3CR1+ T cells both in vitro and in vivo. However, in the co-culture system of H322 cells with T cells, the percentages of apoptotic cells and Fas were substantially higher in CX3CR1+ T cells than those in CX3CR1- T cells. Fas-mediated apoptosis was rescued by treatment with an anti-PD-1 antibody. Accordingly, the combination of adoptive transfer of CX3CR1+ T cells and anti-PD-1 treatment considerably decreased Fas expression and improved the survival of lung xenograft mice. Moreover, an increased frequency of CX3CR1+ T cells in the PB correlated with a better response and prolonged survival of patients with lung cancer who received anti-PD-1 therapy. These findings indicate the promising potential of adoptive transfer of peripheral CX3CR1+ T cells as an individual cancer immunotherapy.

ABSTRACT

Importance: This research, utilizing discrete choice experiments, examines the preferences and willingness to pay for home-based healthcare and support services among residents in China, a country grappling with severe aging population, an area often underexplored in international scholarship. Objectives: This study aims to solicit the preferences of primary care patients for home-based healthcare and support services in China. Design setting and participants: A discrete choice experiment (DCE) was conducted on 312 primary care patients recruited from 13 community health centers in Wuhan and Kunming between January and May 2023. The experimental choice sets were generated using NGene, covering five attributes: Scope of services, health professionals, institutions, insurance reimbursements, and visiting fees. Main outcomes and measures: The choice sets were further divided into three blocks, and each participant was asked to complete one block containing 12 choice tasks. Mixed logit models were established to estimate the relevant importance coefficients of and willingness to pay for different choices, while Latent Class Logit (LCL) modeling was conducted to capture possible preferences heterogeneity. Results: The relevant importance of the scope of services reached 67.33%, compared with 19.84% for service institutions and 12.42% for health professionals. Overall, respondents preferred physician-led diagnostic and treatment services. LCL categorized the respondents into three groups: Group one (60.20%) was most concerned about the scope of services, prioritizing disease diagnosis and treatment over preventive care and mental health, while group two (16.60%) was most concerned about care providers (hospitals and medical doctors were preferred), and group three (23.20%) was most concerned about financial burdens. Conclusion: Primary care patients prefer physical health and medical interventions for home-based healthcare and support services. However, heterogeneity in preferences is evident, indicating potential disparities in healthcare and support at home services in China.

ABSTRACT

Primary cancer of the ileum is rare, and when it occurs in conjunction with primary colon cancer, it becomes even more infrequent and challenging to diagnose prior to surgical intervention. Primary small bowel cancers can be overlooked and may be misidentified as small bowel mesenchymal tumours or advanced metastases from colon cancer. We present an exceedingly uncommon case of ruptured primary ileal cancer combined with primary descending colon cancer presenting with gastrointestinal bleeding. Based on our understanding, instances of dual tumours concurrently occurring are exceedingly infrequent. In this patient, there was a preoperative suspicion of bleeding from colon cancer in the descending region. However, intraoperative exploration revealed that the location of the bleeding was a terminal ileal mass. Following the surgical intervention, the patient recovered satisfactorily. Intraoperative exploration of the entire gastrointestinal tract is therefore necessary in patients with gastrointestinal haemorrhage, especially in those who require urgent surgery without adequate preoperative investigations. If a mass is detected at the end of the ileum, intraoperative pathology should be performed if feasible. Subsequently, if the diagnosis reveals an adenocarcinoma, terminal ileocolic resection and right hemicolectomy are necessary for appropriate resection.

ABSTRACT

Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) has become one of the most prevalent malignant tumors and exploring a potential therapeutic strategy with diminished drug-associated adverse effects to combat CRC is urgent. Herein, we designed a pH-responsive polymer to efficiently encapsulate a stimulator of interferon genes (STING) agonist (5,6- dimethylxanthenone-4-acetic acid, termed ASA404) and a common clinically used chemotherapeutic agent (1-hexylcarbamoyl-5-fluorouracil, termed HCFU). Investigations in vitro demonstrated that polymer encapsulation endowed the system with a pH-dependent disassembly behavior (pHt 6.37), which preferentially selected cancerous cells with a favorable dose reduction (dose reduction index (DRI) of HCFU was 4.09). Moreover, the growth of CRC in tumor-bearing mice was effectively suppressed, with tumor suppression rates up to 94.74%, and a combination index (CI) value of less than one (CI = 0.41 for CT26 cell lines), indicating a significant synergistic therapeutic effect. Histological analysis of the tumor micro-vessel density and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) tests indicated that the system increased TNF-α and IFN-ß levels in serum. Therefore, this research introduces a pH-responsive polymer-based theranostic platform with great potential for immune-chemotherapeutic and anti-vascular combination therapy of CRC.

ABSTRACT

Previous studies have indicated a potential relationship between zinc and epilepsy. The aim of this study is to investigate the causal relationship between zinc, zinc-dependent carbonic anhydrase, and gray matter volume in brain regions enriched with zinc and epilepsy, as well as explore the possible mechanisms by which zinc contributes to epilepsy. First, this study assessed the risk causality between zinc, carbonic anhydrase, and gray matter volume alterations in zinc-enriched brain regions and various subtypes of epilepsy based on Two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis. And then, this study conducted GO/KEGG analysis based on colocalization analysis, MAGMA analysis, lasso regression, random forest model, and XGBoost model. The results of Mendelian randomization analyses showed a causal relationship between zinc, carbonic anhydrase-4, and generalized epilepsy (p = 0.044 , p = 0.010). Additionally, carbonic anhydrase-1 and gray matter volume of the caudate nucleus were found to be associated with epilepsy and focal epilepsy (p = 0.014, p = 0.003 and p = 0.022, p = 0.009). A colocalization relationship was found between epilepsy and focal epilepsy (PP.H4.abf = 97.7e - 2). Meanwhile, the MAGMA analysis indicated that SNPs associated with epilepsy and focal epilepsy were functionally localized to zinc-finger-protein-related genes (p < 1.0e - 5). The genes associated with focal epilepsy were found to have a molecular function of zinc ion binding (FDR = 2.3e - 6). After the onset of epilepsy, the function of the gene whose expression changed in the rats with focal epilepsy was enriched in the biological process of vascular response (FDR = 4.0e - 5). These results revealed mechanism of the increased risk of epilepsy caused by elevated zinc may be related to the increase of zinc ion-dependent carbonic anhydrase or the increase of the volume of zinc-rich caudate gray matter.

ABSTRACT

An injectable hydrogel dressing, Zr/Fc-MOF@CuO2@FH, was constructed by combing acid-triggered chemodynamic treatment (CDT) with low-temperature photothermal treatment (LT-PTT) to effectively eliminate bacteria without harming the surrounding normal tissues. The Zr/Fc-MOF acts as both photothermal reagent and nanozyme to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). The CuO2 nanolayer can be decomposed by the acidic microenvironment of the bacterial infection to release Cu2+ and H2O2, which not only induces Fenton-like reaction but also enhances the catalytic capability of the Zr/Fc-MOF. The generated heat augments ROS production, resulting in highly efficient bacterial elimination at low temperature. Precisely, injectable hydrogel dressing can match irregular wound sites, which shortens the distance of heat dissipation and ROS diffusion to bacteria, thus improving sterilization efficacy and decreasing non-specific systemic toxicity. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments validated the predominant sterilization efficiency of drug-resistant methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and kanamycin-resistant Escherichia coli (KREC), presenting great potential for application in clinical therapy.
