ABSTRACT

Almost all of the tetragnathid spiders have eight eyes, while two Dolichognatha species, D. longiceps (Thorell, 1895) (Sunil Jose 2014: 474, figs 1A-B) and D. junlitjri (Barrion-Dupo Barrion, 2014) (Barrion-Dupo Barrion 2014: 196, figs 1A-B) have six eyes (PME absent). They were originally assigned to Prolochus Thorell, 1895, which was synonymized with Dolichognatha O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1869 by Levi (1981), and reaffirmed by Kallal Hormiga (2018) after a multi-loci phylogenetic analysis.

ABSTRACT

Stertinius Simon, 1890 belongs in the subtribe Simaethina Simon, 1903 of the subfamily Salticinae Blackwall, 1841 (Maddison 2015), which represents a group of small spiders with flatted prosoma and conspicuous, sclerotized sigillae (Logunov et al. 1997; Logunov 2018). Currently, a total of 12 species have been described mainly from East and Southeast Asia, of which five species have only one sex described (World Spider Catalog 2020).

ABSTRACT

The wolf spider genus Artoria Thorell, 1877 is a common group in Australasia, currently including 41 species from Australia, three from New Zealand and four from Pacific islands (Framenau Baehr 2018; Word Spider Catalog 2019). This does not, however, comprise the whole distribution of the genus. The type species, A. parvula Thorell, 1877 has been recorded from China, Philippines, Indonesia (Sulawesi) and Australia (Northern Territory). An endemic species, A. ligulacea (Qu, Peng Yin, 2009) was described from Yunnan, China. This indicates that there must be some undescribed species from Southeast Asian countries. A recent collecting expedition to Malaysia confirms this hypothesis. Two species of Artoria were found, the type species, A. parvula from East and West Malaysia and a new species, A. weiwei sp. nov. from East Malaysia. In this study, we illustrate the former and describe for the first time the latter species.

ABSTRACT

The family Caponiidae Simon, 1890 is reported for the first time from China. The total number of the known spider families from China increases to 72 with the addition of this family newly recorded in the present paper. Based on male and female specimens collected from Guangxi, China, Laoponiasaetosa Platnick & Jäger, 2008 is illustrated and a global distribution map is generated.

ABSTRACT

Two new species of the orb-weaver genus Chorizopes from Yunnan Province, China are described: Chorizopes albussp. n. (male and female) from the Gaoligong Mountains and Ailao Mountains, and Chorizopes longussp. n. (male and female) from the Gaoligong Mountains. Chorizopes albussp. n. can be distinguished from the related species Chorizopes shimenensis by: 1) median apophysis widest at the middle part versus widest at the base in the latter; 2) median apophysis without the dorsal spur found in that of the latter; 3) spermathecae spherical versus ovoid in the latter; 4) having one pair of large white spots on posterior lateral area of abdomen versus having two pairs of crescent white patches with dark edges on dorsal abdomen in the latter. Chorizopes longussp. n. can be separated from the similar species Chorizopes tumens by: 1) the median apophysis having a knob on the distal half versus having a knob on the basic half in the latter; 2) male palp having a spur versus absent in the latter; 3) the width of the groove between the paracymbium and cymbium as thick as the paracymbium versus two times as thick as the paracymbium in the latter; 4) copulatory duct attached on anterior ventral of the spermatheca versus on anterior dorsal in the latter. Photos of body and copulatory organs, line drawings of copulatory organs, as well as the distribution data are provided. The type specimens are deposited in the College of Life Sciences, at the Hunan Normal University (HNU) and the Museum of Tongren University (MTU).

ABSTRACT

The present paper deals with three species of the genus Mimetus from China, including Mimetus echinatus Wang, 1990, Mimetus lamelliformissp. n. (male), and Mimetus wangisp. n. (female and male). Mimetus lamelliformis differs from the related species Mimetus echinatus Wang, 1990 by: cymbial tip with several slender long macrosetae; cymbium boat-shaped, length/width ratio about 3/1 in retrolateral view; vexillum about 1/2 length of cymbium in retrolateral view. Mimetus wangisp. n. differs from the related species Mimetus sinicus Song & Zhu, 1993 by: the opisthosoma with a pair of distinct outgrowths in the dorsum; sperm duct nearly horizontal; spermathecae kidney shaped and contiguous. Photos of body and copulatory organs, line drawings of copulatory organs, as well as the locality map are provided.

ABSTRACT

The present paper deals with two new species of Yaginumaella, Yaginumaella lushuiensissp. n. (female and male) and Yaginumaella pseudoflexasp. n. (female and male). The male of Yaginumaella lushuiensissp. n. differs from the related species Yaginumaella flexa Song & Chai, 1992 in ventral view of palpal organ. The female of Yaginumaella lushuiensissp. n. differs from the related species Yaginumaella urbanii Zabka, 1981 by: 1) hoods locate at the anterior area of epigynum and far away from the copulatory openings; 2) epigynum about circular; 3) copulatory openings transverse. The male of Yaginumaella pseudoflexasp. n. differs from the related species Yaginumaella bulbosa Peng, Tang & Li, 2008 in ventral view of palpal organ: 1) basal portion of embolus touches the margin of genital bulb. 2) distal portion of tibial apophysis covers the posterior margin of cymbium and far away from the margin of genital bulb. The female of Yaginumaella pseudoflexasp. n. differs from the related species Yaginumaella urbanii Zabka, 1981 by: epigynum about as long as wide; hoods locate at the anterior area of the epigynum, above the outside area of the copulatory openings and far away from the copulatory openings. Photos of body and copulatory organs, line drawings of copulatory organs, as well as the locality map are provided. Descriptions of morphology are given.
