OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the wear resistance and color stability of fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) fabricated using two different materials: zirconia veneered with feldspathic porcelain and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) veneered with indirect composite. The assessment included samples subjected to thermocycling and wear simulation. METHODS: Two groups of FDPs were examined: one made of zirconia veneered with feldspathic porcelain (control and thermocycled) and the other made of PEEK veneered with indirect composite (worn and thermocycled). The samples were evaluated for wear resistance, antagonist wear, and color stability. Computer-aided design (CAD) software and a digital spectrophotometer were used for analysis. RESULTS: Zirconia veneered with porcelain demonstrated higher wear resistance compared to PEEK veneered with indirect composite. PEEK veneered with indirect composite exhibited significantly lower antagonist wear, indicating a protective effect on opposing teeth. There was no significant difference in color stability between the two groups, even after subjecting them to thermocycling and wear simulation. CONCLUSION: The study concludes that FDPs fabricated with PEEK veneered with indirect composite may have lower wear resistance compared to zirconia veneered with porcelain. However, PEEK FDPs appear to be safer for antagonists due to reduced antagonist wear. Importantly, both materials exhibited similar color stability, making PEEK a viable alternative for FDPs when aesthetic appeal and antagonist protection are primary considerations.

In countries with a high amount of geriatric patients, it is mandatory for a dental clinician to have working knowledge on complete denture (CD) procedures. The aim of this study was to troubleshoot the errors in denture fabrication by assessing the difficulties in clinical procedures. A questionnaire was distributed among dental undergraduates across the country in the present study. A total of 26 questions were included in the study. An online sharing medium was used for distribution and a total of 140 responses were received. SPSS for windows, version 20 was used for data tabulation. Descriptive statistics and Chi-square test were done. The results of this study revealed that jaw relation was the most difficult procedure followed by border molding. Multiple problems arise from the practitioner's end due to the lack of knowledge. One of the causes for these problems could be inability to learn the principles and procedures during the undergraduate program. This must be addressed at the base level so that better care can be given to patients.

INTRODUCTION: The overall rehabilitation of women in sex work is unfortunately limited most of the time only to moving them to another profession, but it should be focused on including health as an important factor. Factors that restrict regular dental care include misconceptions, dental fear and expense of dental care, unpleasant dental experiences, and socioeconomic factors, but such a direct correlation cannot be made in the case of such women. Until now, no study has been conducted related to the complete dentition status and treatment needs of women in sex work. AIM: The aim of our survey was to evaluate the dentition status and treatment needs among the brothel-based women engaged in sex work. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A pilot study was conducted on 30 women and the final sample size was estimated to be 350. All the women were above 18 years old. Systematic random sampling method was followed after line listing of the brothels. The dentition status and treatment needs were recorded using the World Health Organization assessment form, 1997. The data collected were tabulated and analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 16.0. The Chi-squared test was carried out to check the association, and all p-values below 0.05 were considered to be statistically significant. RESULTS: The mean number of decayed teeth per person was 5.05 (±4.81), missing teeth per person was 0.96 ± 2.71, filled teeth per person was 0.04 (±0.34), and the mean of decayed missing filled permanent teeth per person was 6.05 (±5.84). There was a significant association between dental caries and age, using finger to clean the teeth, and not visiting the dentist. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Due to different risk factors, such as diet, improper oral hygiene maintenance, and substance abuse, the overall dental health was found to be compromised in this population. Economic burden is an important factor that influences their attitude toward oral health and is likely to be inherited by their next generation also.
