ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The current scoping review's objective was to outline existing applications, recent breakthroughs, and quantum dots' applicability in imaging of oral squamous cell cancer. Quantum dots are nanometric semiconductor crystals with customizable optical characteristics and intense, stable fluorescence suited for bioimaging and labeling. We used the Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) recommendations for conducting our systematic search. An analysis of the properties and applications of quantum dots in noninvasive detection of oral squamous cell cancer is presented in this study, which comprehensively explores the available evidence. Following searches in the databases PubMed, Ovid SP, and Cochrane using the search terms quantum dots AND oral squamous cell cancer, 55 published publications were chosen for this review. The review identified a total of eight papers that met the criteria. In noninvasive detection of oral squamous cell carcinoma, quantum dots have the potential to offer an array of therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Furthermore, quantum dots emit near-infrared and visible light, which is advantageous in biological imaging since it reduces light dispersion and absorption of tissue. The future may see quantum dots become a popular noninvasive imaging technique for oral squamous cell cancer. The number of studies accessible is quite limited, and further research is required.

ABSTRACT

Background: Single-visit pulpectomy (SVP) protocol with rotary files is highly recommended for the treatment of teeth with irreversible pulpitis. Various rotary endodontic files specially designed for use in the pediatric population are available. The aim is to clinically assess the parameters related to the time required for biomechanical preparation (TBMP) and quality of filling using a single file system vs a sequential multi-file system in infected primary mandibular molars. Materials and methods: A total of 45 infected primary molars were allocated to three groups (two experimental groups (n = 15) and a control group. The first experimental group was instrumented using NiTi K-Flex files, the second group with a single file rotary system with variably variable (VV) taper, and the third with a sequential multi-file system with constant taper. Biomechanical preparation time was recorded and standardized digital radiograph (RVG) were taken pre- and postinstrumentation. The data recorded was sent for statistical analysis. Conclusion: There is a substantial reduction of TBMP in primary molars using single file VV taper and multi-sequential file constant taper. Obturation time for all three file systems was comparable and there were no differences between the three file systems used (p > 0.05). Multi-sequential file constant taper files showed a higher probability of optimal obturations and minimal voids followed by NiTi "K-Flex" files and single file system but the difference was nonsignificant (p > 0.05). However, using a rotary in primary teeth results in better canal shape, and less TBMP leading to a better quality of treatment in less time. ABSTRACT

AIM AND OBJECTIVE: The respective review article is to provide an overview of the various exercises in orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) as a treatment modality for tongue thrust habit. Tongue thrust is the persistence of an infantile swallow pattern during late childhood. This leads to breathing and speech difficulties, open bite, and protruded teeth. During formative years, most children successfully transition from an infantile to a mature swallowing pattern. However, a few develop a retained infantile swallow and tongue thrust habit which could be due to abnormal habit like thumb sucking or an underlying cause like enlarged adenoids. Adverse effects of these habits can be avoided by early detection and intervention in a growing child. Tongue thrust can be treated in different ways with early diagnosis, removal of underlying causes, correcting tongue posture, and breaking of habit with the use of orthodontic appliances. This review article is focused on the various OMT techniques employed for the correction of tongue thrust. There are several exercises in OMT which can help a child with tongue thrust. These can be performed at home under the supervision of the child's parents. Orofacial myofunctional therapy has provided a dramatic and positive influence on patients treated for tongue thrust. The joy of eating, speaking, and correct breathing can be regained along with confidence, self-esteem, and improved quality of life. Clinically, OMT plays a positive role by not only improving swallow but also the posture of tongue, improper muscle function, and reduces relapse of previous orthodontic treatments.
