ABSTRACT

The non-metallic catalyst graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has attracted a significant amount of attention due to its excellent photocatalytic performance. The photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4 has been further enhanced by the incorporation of graphene oxide (GO) as a composite catalyst. However, the enrichment and recovery of these two-dimensional composites after photocatalysis is still a difficult challenge. In this work, a visible light responsive graphene oxide/graphitic carbon nitride coated sponge three-dimensional composite (PU-GO/g-C3N4) was prepared by electrostatic self-assembly using polyurethane sponge (PU) as a skeleton and g-C3N4 as a photocatalyst. The degradation rate of rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light was used as an index to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of PU-GO/g-C3N4. The results demonstrate that during the photocatalytic degradation of RhB by PU-GO/g-C3N4, g-C3N4 is the main photocatalyst, while the holes and the superoxide radicals generated by electron excitation are the main agents. As a bridge connecting PU and g-C3N4, GO improves the agglomeration phenomenon of g-C3N4 on PU. Meanwhile, GO has excellent carrier mobility and inhibits the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Moreover, the presence of GO enhances the absorption of light and dyes. Overall, the addition of GO effectively enhances the photocatalytic performance of PU-GO/g-C3N4 due to it enhances dye absorption, improves light energy utilization rate, and expedites transfer of photogenerated electrons. After 5 cycles, PU-GO/g-C3N4 still exhibits an RhB degradation rate of 92.06%, demonstrating good stability and recycling performance. This material shows great promise for practical environmental remediation applications.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The consumption of large amounts of ethanol can directly lead to acute gastric mucosal bleeding, edema, and erosion, while long-term drinking has been associated with gastric ulcers. Previous research has demonstrated that Har Gabur, a traditional Mongolian medicine, alleviates gastric ulcers through the physical adsorption of its carbon components. It is well known that the immune response has an important role in gastric ulceration. METHODS: In the present study, we used an ethanol-induced injury cell and mice model to investigate whether Har Gabur can inhibit the immune response stimulated by ethanol and identify the active constituents of Har Gabur involved in this process. RESULTS: We found that Har Gabur significantly repressed the activated Fas/FasL signal pathway and endogenous Bax/Bcl-2 apoptosis pathway. The molecular mechanism of the protective effect most likely involved the transcription or mRNA stability, as Har Gabur remarkably reversed the change in mRNA level of apoptosis-related genes induced by ethanol. CONCLUSION: Har Gabur operated in a cell-state-specific manner in vivo without inducing adverse effects in normal mice. Importantly, GO was identified as the main active ingredient of Har Gabur for gastric ulcers.

ABSTRACT

Tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs), abundantly infiltrated in the tumor microenvironment, have a significant influence on tumor metastasis, angiogenesis and immune escape. Therefore, TAMs-targeted immunotherapy has become a hot point in the field of cancer treatment. However, most of the conventional TAMs-targeted agents may cause serious adverse effects, such as short retention time, poor drug enrichment and drug-resistance. In order to overcome these shortcomings, nanobiotechnology has attracted considerable attention. More recently, a series of important progress for nanomedicine has been achieved in the area of drug delivery and diagnostic imaging, because of their special physical and chemical properties. Hence, the TAMs-targeted nanomedicine delivery system provides new ideas for tumor immunotherapy. This paper reviews the role of TAMs in tumor microenvironment, the tumor-promoting mechanism, and introduces the research progress of nanomedicine in TAMs polarization, nanodrug delivery, TAMs-targeted imaging and preventing the TAMs recruitment, so as to provide reference for the application of nanotechnology in tumor immunotherapy.

ABSTRACT

During the COVID-19 epidemic, our national guidelines have suggested that surgical patients should wear a mask to decrease the potential transmission of COVID-19 in the operating room, as long as the condition allows. However, so far, there is no study to discuss the influence of wearing a mask on the ventilation and blood oxygenation status in patients of spontaneous breathing with supplementary oxygen through an anesthetic facemask. This is a before-after study in the same patient, and 10 healthy volunteers were recruited, by testing the arterial blood gas parameters at key time points before and after oxygen inhalation to evaluate the effects of two different supplementary oxygen methods ('disposable medical mask + anesthetic facemask' and 'anesthetic facemask only') on the oxygenation of subjects. Our data demonstrated whether wearing a disposable medical mask or not could effectively increase the oxygen supply of the subjects compared with the basic value before oxygen inhalation; however, compared with the group without mask, the arterial oxygen partial (PaO

ABSTRACT

Mitochondria are morphologically dynamic organelles which undergo fission and fusion processes. Our previous study found that arterial constriction was always accompanied by increased mitochondrial fission in smooth muscle cells, whereas inhibition of mitochondrial fission in smooth muscle cells was associated with arterial relaxation. Here, we used the typical vasorelaxants, verapamil and phentolamine, to further confirm the coupling between arterial constriction and mitochondrial fission in rat aorta. Results showed that phentolamine but not verapamil induced vasorelaxation in phenylephrine (PE)-induced rat thoracic aorta constriction. Verapamil, but not phentolamine, induced vasorelaxation in high K(KPSS)-induced rat thoracic aorta constriction. Pre-treatment with phentolamine prevented PE- but not KPSS-induced aorta constriction and pre-treatment with verapamil prevented both PE- and KPSS-induced aorta constriction. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results showed that verapamil but not phentolamine inhibited KPSS-induced excessive mitochondrial fission in aortic smooth muscle cells, and verapamil prevented both PE- and KPSS-induced excessive mitochondrial fission in aortic smooth muscle cells. Verapamil inhibited KPSS-induced excessive mitochondrial fission in cultured vascular smooth muscle cells (A10). These results further demonstrate that arterial relaxation is coupled to inhibition of mitochondrial fission in arterial smooth muscle cells.

ABSTRACT

Our previous studies found that mitochondrial uncouplers induced vasodilation. Triclosan, the broad spectrum antibacterial agent, is the active ingredient in soaps and toothpastes. It was reported that triclosan induced mitochondrial uncoupling, so we aim to investigate the effects of triclosan on vascular function of rat mesenteric arteries and aorta. The isometric tension of rat mesenteric artery and thoracic aorta was recorded by multi-wire myograph system. The cytosolic [Ca], mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mitoROS), and mitochondrial membrane potential of smooth muscle cells (A10 cells) were measured using laser scanning confocal microscopy. Triclosan treatment relaxed phenylephrine (PE)- and high K(KPSS)-induced constriction, and pre-treatment with triclosan inhibited PE- and KPSS-induced constriction of rat mesenteric arteries. In rat thoracic aorta, triclosan also relaxed PE- and KPSS-induced constriction. Triclosan induces vasorelaxation without involving Kchannel activation in smooth muscle cells of arteries. Triclosan treatment increased cytosolic [Ca], mitochondrial ROS production and depolarized mitochondrial membrane potential in A10 cells. In conclusion, triclosan induces mitochondrial uncoupling in vascular smooth muscle cells and relaxes the constricted rat mesenteric arteries and aorta of rats. The present results suggest that triclosan would indicate vasodilation effect if absorbed excessively.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the cognitive and behavioral characteristics of AIDS between male-male in college students, and to provide evidence for the prevention and control strategies. Methods Using cluster random sampling method, the questionnaire survey including basic situation, the perception of HIV/AIDS of male male actors, sexual behavior and condom use and HIV/AIDS counseling detection, was used to investigate in male students of 8 universities at Beijing fangshan distric. Results A total of 2444 male college students were surveyed, 138 cases with male-male behavior were detected, and the detection rate was 5.65%. The detection rate (18.31%) of the junior college students was statistically higher than that of first-year college students (4.28%) and sophomores (6.52%, P<0.017). The awareness rates of four relevant knowledge about HIV/AIDS for 138 students were 25.36%, 15.22%, 9.42%and 13.77%respectively. The 44.93%male-male in college students had first sexual intercourse were younger than 18 years old. The proportion of students with first time male-male behavior and age <18 years was higher in the first-year college students (58.9%) than that of sophomores and junior college students (30.77%, 26.92%). The incidence rate of bisexuality was 43.48% in male-male behavior, and 73.91% was polysexual partners. The correct usage rate of condom was 31.16%. AIDS counseling detection rate was 27.54%. Conclusion The detection rate is higher in students with male-male behavior, and the awareness rate of AIDS-related knowledge is lower. A variety of high risk sexual behaviors are prevalent, so it is necessary to strengthen HIV/AIDS education and HIV/AIDS related knowledge for college students.

ABSTRACT

The interferon-γ testing and the comparative cervical skin test were compared with the simple cervical hypersensitivity test routinely used in our country in herds infected with Mycobacterium bovis, in which 167 infected cattle from 5 herds were tested with interferon-γ testing and the comparative cervical test (CCT) simultaneously and other 106 cattle were tested with other hypersensitivity tests used as control for comparison. In these 167 cattle tested with both tests, 89 cattle were proved to be positive both in interferon-γ testing and CCT using the bovine PPD of Netherland with a coincidence rate of 92.7% (89/96). In 106 cattle the coincidence rate of positive reactions detected by γ-interferon test and CCT was 93.41% (78/83.5), that detected by the routine skin of foreign country was 62.26%(66/106); and that between the hypersensitivity test of China and foreign country was 92.19% (59/64). It is obvious that the interferon-γ testing and CCT seem to have higher coincidence rate and the specificity of the skin tests used in our country was rather low. Consequently, the use of the comparative cervical skin test should be considered to replace the routinely used shin tests.
