ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) among family caregivers of patients with cerebral infarction toward home-based care. Methods: This web-based cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2023 and February 2024 at Yancheng Third People's Hospital. A self-designed questionnaire was developed to collect demographic information, and assess the KAP among family caregivers of patients with cerebral infarction toward home-based care. Results: A total of 761 questionnaires were included in the study. Among the participants, 453 (59.53%) were female, and 548 (72.01%) lived with the patients. The mean knowledge, attitudes and practices scores were 6.67 ± 1.73 (possible range: 0-9), 32.95 ± 2.46 (possible range: 9-45), and 28.64 ± 4.39 (possible range: 8-40), respectively. Path analysis showed the direct effect of knowledge on both attitudes (ß = 0.885, p < 0.001) and practices (ß = 1.295, p < 0.001), as well as of attitudes on practices (ß = 0.838, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Family caregivers of patients with cerebral infarction have sufficient knowledge, positive attitudes and proactive practices toward home-based care. However, they still exhibit deficiencies in certain aspects of knowledge, attitudes, and practice. Developing personalized educational strategies may be instrumental in enhancing family caregivers' knowledge of home-based care. This, in turn, could improve their attitudes and elevate their practice levels.

ABSTRACT

Recent years have witnessed increasing attempts to track trade flows of critical materials across world regions and along the life cycle for renewable energy and the low carbon transition. Previous studies often had limited spatiotemporal coverage, excluded end-use products, and modeled different life cycle stages as single-layer networks. Here, we integrated material flow analysis and complex network analysis into a multilayer framework to characterize the spatiotemporal and multilayer trade network patterns of the global cobalt cycle from 1988 to 2020. We found substantial growth and notable structural changes in global cobalt trade over the past 30 years. China, Germany, and the United States play pivotal roles in different layers and stages of the global cobalt cycle. The interlayer relationships among alloys, batteries, and materials are robust and continually strengthening, indicating a trend toward synergistic trade. However, cobalt ore-exporting countries are highly concentrated and rarely involved in later life cycle stages, resulting in the weakest relationship between the ore layer and other layers. This causes fluctuations and uncertainty in the global cobalt trade. Our model, linking industrial ecology, supply chain analysis, and network analysis, can be extended to other materials that are critical for the future green transition.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to develop an integrated model based on the health belief model (HBM) and the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to explore the influencing factors of parents' intentions toward preschool children's myopia preventive behaviors. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Minhang District, Shanghai, China in January 2022. One thousand six hundred and twenty-eight parents of preschool children from seven preschools were recruited in the study. A four-part questionnaire was used to collect data on socio-demographic characteristics, HBM variables, TPB variables and parental intentions. This study used exploratory factor analysis to analyze HBM and TPB items. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between independent variables and parents' intentions toward preschool children's myopia preventive behaviors. Results: The final integrative model showed that perceived severity, perceived barriers, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control were associated with parents' intentions toward preschool children's myopia preventive behaviors. In model 1, Child's age was entered as a control variable and explained 0.6% of the variance (F = 7.241, p = 0.007). When the HBM variables were entered in model 2, the proportion of variance increased to 25.4% (F = 73.290, P < 0.001). In model 3, TPB variables were entered and explained 63.2% of the variance (F = 246.076, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The integrated model of HBM and TPB constructed in this study significantly improved the degree of explanation of parents' intentions toward preschool children's myopia preventive behaviors. Parents' perceived severity, perceived barriers, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control can be prioritized intervention targets for myopia preventive practices in preschool children.

ABSTRACT

Gliomas are highly malignant tumors with a rapid progression and poor prognosis. The present study investigated the cellular effects of CLN5-knockdown in the glioblastoma (GBM) U251 and U87MG cell lines. The Cell Counting Kit-8 and colony formation assays indicated that CLN5-knockdown inhibited the proliferation of GBM cells. Additionally, the results of the Transwell and scratch assays revealed that CLN5-knockdown significantly inhibited migration and invasion, and the flow cytometry analysis confirmed that apoptosis was promoted. Knockdown of CLN5 downregulated the expression levels of MMP-2, Bcl-2, cyclin D1, CDK4 and CDK6, and upregulated the expression levels of Bax and activated caspase-9. Additionally, it blocked GBM cells in the G1-phase and induced early apoptosis. Knockdown of CLN5 inhibited the activation of the Akt and mTOR signaling pathways in GBM by decreasing the levels of phosphorylated (p)-Akt and p-mTOR. The present data suggested that downregulation of CLN5 may be a potential treatment option for GBM. Knockdown of CLN5 inhibited the development of GBM via the inhibition of the Akt and mTOR signaling pathways.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the causes of death of advanced schistosomiasis patients in Huacao Town, Shanghai, so as to improve the relief measures for advanced schistosomiasis patients. METHODS: The data of advanced schistosomiasis patients from 2007 to 2012 were collected and analyzed statistically. RESULTS: There were totally 340 advanced schistosomiasis patients, and among them there were 110 deaths and 230 survival cases currently. The deaths of the men were less than those of the female with the gender ratio of 1: 1.08. The average age of deaths of advanced schistosomiasis patients was 77.98 years, while the patients with age older than 70 years accounted for 90.00%. There were 36 advanced schistosomiasis patients died of cancer, accounted for 32.73%, and 34 deaths died of schistosomiasis, accounted for 30.91%. CONCLUSION: The mortality rate of advanced schistosomiasis patients shows a rising trend in Huacao Town, and they mainly die of cancer and schistosomiasis.
