ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This research aimed to study whether bracket bonding using guided bonding devices (GBDs) is accurate enough for crowded dentitions in vitro. METHODS: Fifteen three-dimensionally (3D) printed resin model sets were included and divided into three groups: mild, moderate, and severe crowding. The resin models were scanned and virtually bonded with brackets. Corresponding GBDs were generated and 3D printed. Subsequently, the brackets were bonded to the resin models on a dental mannequin using the GBDs. The models with bonded brackets were scanned, and comparisons were made between the positions of the actually bonded and the planned ones to evaluate possible deviations. RESULTS: There was no immediate bonding failure in any group. The bonding duration tended to increase with crowding severity (P > 0.05). Almost all linear and angular deviations in all groups were below 0.5 mm and 2°, respectively, and no statistically significant difference was found among the different crowding degrees (P > 0.05). In all groups, the brackets tended to deviate lingually and had buccal crown torque. Brackets in the groups with mild and severe crowding showed a tendency for mesiobuccal rotation. CONCLUSION: GBDs provide high bracket bonding accuracy for dentitions with different crowding degrees and, thus, could hopefully be applied to uncrowded and crowded dentitions alike.

BACKGROUND: Few prospective investigations have compared direct and indirect techniques through comprehensive and detailed clinical evaluations, considering the impact of all factors. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to compare and evaluate direct and indirect bonding methods at a single institution and to clarify the selection criteria for the bonding method. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-centre, quasi-randomized controlled clinical trial included 153 patients who required fixed orthodontic treatment. They were randomly divided into indirect and direct binding groups by the project lead (K.K.), who was blinded to all clinical data, and performed the allocation using medical record numbers. The chair time for bracket bonding, discomfort during bracket bonding, oral hygiene after bonding, number of bracket failures, number of intentional bracket reattachments, post-treatment occlusal index, and total treatment time were assessed. Outcomes were compared using a two-sample t-test or Mann-Whitney U test (P < .05). RESULTS: Fifty-eight patients were included in the indirect bonding group (20 male, 38 female; mean age: 20.63 ±â€…5.69 years) and 66 (14 male, 52 female; mean age: 23.17 ±â€…8.83 years) in the direct bonding group. Compared to the direct bonding group, the indirect bonding group had shorter chair time (P < .001), a shorter total treatment period (P < .01), and a better final occlusal relationship (P < .001). The number of bracket detachments was higher (P < .001) in the indirect bonding group, but the number of intentional reattachments was lower (P < .001). CONCLUSION: Indirect bonding may improve the efficiency of orthodontic treatment. HARMS: No harm was observed during the study. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Precise root torque adjustment of anterior teeth is indispensable for optimizing dental esthetics and occlusal stability in orthodontics. The efficiency of traditional rectangular archwire manipulation within bracket slots seems to be limited. The crimpable gate spring, a novel device, has emerged as a promising alternative. Yet, there is a paucity of guidelines for its optimal clinical application. This study used finite element analysis (FEA) to investigate the biomechanical impact of the gate spring on torque adjustment of individual anterior teeth and to elucidate the most effective application strategy. METHODS: A FEA model was constructed by a maxillary central incisor affixed with an edgewise bracket featuring a 0.022â€¯× 0.028 inch (in) slot. A range of stainless steel rectangular archwires, in conjunction with a gate spring, were modeled and simulated within the bracket slots. A control group utilized a conventional rectangular wire devoid of a gate spring. Palatal root moments were standardized to 9, 18, and 36 Nmm for both experimental and control groups. RESULTS: The gate spring significantly amplified palatal root movement, notably with the 0.019â€¯× 0.025 in archwire. However, this was accompanied by an increase in stress on the tooth and periodontal ligament, particularly in the cervical regions. The synergistic use of a 0.019â€¯× 0.025 in rectangular archwire with a gate spring in a 0.022â€¯× 0.028 in bracket slot was identified as most efficacious for torque control of individual anterior teeth. CONCLUSIONS: The gate spring is a viable auxiliary device for enhancing torque adjustment on individual teeth. However, caution is advised as excessive initial stress may concentrate in the cervical and apical regions of the periodontal ligament and tooth.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of cherry juice, coffee, coke, gastric acid, and the thermo-aging procedure (TAP) on the shear bond strength (SBS) of APC II, APC flash-free, and conventional ceramic brackets. Methods: A total of 180 human premolar teeth were randomly divided into three major groups according to the type of ceramic bracket. Then, six subgroups (n=10) were established from each major group: Group 1: control; Group 2: only TAP; Group 3: 72 hours of cherry juice exposure + TAP; Group 4: 72 hours of coffee exposure + TAP; Group 5: 72 hours of coke exposure + TAP; and Group 6: 24 hours gastric acid exposure + TAP. SBS was assessed for each specimen using a universal test device, and the adhesive remnant index (ARI) was scored under a light microscope. Kruskal-Wallis and post-hoc Tamhane tests were used to analyze the data. Results: Among the control groups, the highest SBS value belonged to conventional ceramic brackets (p<0.01). SBS values for all groups decreased as a result of each liquid and TAP. Gastric acid and coke had the greatest detrimental effects on SBS, while TAP had the least negative effects. The SBS values of APC II, APC flash-free, and conventional brackets were found to be statistically insignificant after different liquid exposures and TAP. Conclusion: TAP and various fluids had a negative impact on the SBS value of ceramic brackets. SBS values, however, were still higher than clinically acceptable (8-9 MPa) values, even after exposure to gastric acid and coke.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of various remineralizing agents in stopping the early enamel lesions surrounding orthodontic brackets from progressing. Techniques: Four groups were randomly allocated to a total of 100 participants: the control group (no treatment), calcium phosphate, casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), and fluoride varnish. Remineralizing chemicals were administered in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, and enamel lesions were created around orthodontic brackets. At baseline and follow-up visits, enamel lesion development was evaluated by visual inspection, quantitative light-induced fluorescence, and microhardness tests. Results: All treatment groups showed significant improvements in microhardness and decreases in lesion size compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Of all the treatment groups, CPP-ACP showed the most notable improvement in microhardness. Regarding the reduction of lesion size, there were no notable variations between the therapy groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Initial enamel lesions surrounding orthodontic brackets can be effectively prevented from progressing with the use of fluoride varnish, calcium phosphate, and CPP-ACP. Promising improvements in microhardness indicate that CPP-ACP may be a better treatment choice. Larger sample sizes and longer follow-up times are needed for future studies to validate these results and clarify the best strategy for maintaining the health of enamel throughout orthodontic treatment.

ABSTRACT

Background: Orthodontic treatment involves the use of various materials, including brackets and wires, which come into direct contact with oral tissues. Biocompatibility of these materials is crucial to ensure patient safety and treatment success. This study aims to evaluate the biocompatibility of orthodontic brackets and wires through an in-vitro investigation. Materials and Methods: Orthodontic brackets and wires commonly used in clinical practice were selected for this study. A series of in-vitro tests were conducted to assess the biocompatibility of these materials. Cell culture assays were performed to evaluate cytotoxicity, cell proliferation, and inflammatory response. In addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine the surface characteristics of the materials. Results: The cytotoxicity assays revealed minimal adverse effects on cell viability, with cell viability percentages ranging from 90% to 95% for all materials tested. Cell proliferation assays demonstrated similar rates of cell growth on the surfaces of both brackets and wires. SEM analysis indicated smooth surfaces with minimal irregularities, suggesting favorable biocompatibility. Conclusion: The findings of this in-vitro study suggest that the orthodontic brackets and wires examined exhibit satisfactory biocompatibility characteristics. Minimal cytotoxicity and favorable cell proliferation indicate that these materials are well suited for use in orthodontic treatment. Further clinical studies are warranted to validate these findings and ensure the safety and efficacy of orthodontic appliances in patient care.

BACKGROUND: The removal of adhesive remnants after bracket debonding has been shown to cause damaging effects on the enamel surface. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of stained adhesive remnant removal (ARR) on enamel roughness compared to translucent composite. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Thirty extracted premolar teeth were divided equally into three groups; conventional composite control group (CC), stained composite group (SC) and stained bonding solution group (SB). The buccal surface of each tooth was cleaned, dried and the surface roughness (Ra) was evaluated using a contact prophylometer (T0). After bracket debonding, a high-speed carbide bur under a water-cooling system was used for ARR in one direction and the time consumed for ARR was recorded. After ARR, the second mean Ra values were recorded (T1). The samples were then polished using polishing paste with low-speed rubber cup and the third mean Ra values were recorded (T2). RESULTS: Repeated one-way ANOVA revealed a significant difference in the mean Ra values at T0, T1 and T2 within each group P˂0.05. A statistically significant difference in the changes of the mean Ra values after ARR (T1-T0) and after polishing (T1-T2) was found between the CC group and both SC and SB groups. A significant difference in the time consumed for ARR was found between the three groups with CC group being the most time-consuming group. CONCLUSION: Stained composite material followed by the stained bonding solution provided better visibility during ARR with lower mean Ra values and less time for ARR compared totranslucent composite material.

ABSTRACT

The current study evaluated the bracket bond strength of hypomineralized teeth with and without acid etching. Twenty premolar teeth extracted for orthodontic purposes were used in this study. Hypomineralization was induced in all experimental teeth using a cariogenic solution. Then the teeth were divided into two groups. In the first group, orthodontic brackets were bonded by orthodontic adhesive (Green Gloo, Ormco, USA) without etching, while in the second group, further etching was used before bonding. All specimens were examined for morphological changes in the enamel surface after demineralization and debonding using a scanning electron microscope. The shear bond strength was also measured, and the recorded values of bond strengths were collected and statistically analyzed. All massed results were statistically evaluated via an independent t-test to equate Group 1 (G1) and Group 2 (G2). A p-value of < 0.05 is deemed to be statistically substantial. The shear bond strength of groups interacted by orthodontic adhesive with etching (Group 2) was considerably greater than that of groups bonded by orthodontic adhesive without etching. The etching indicates considerably greater tackiness rates compared to bonding without etching, although it leaves more destructed cores, which may need further treatment.

ABSTRACT

Plaque control is especially important during orthodontic treatment because areas of the teeth near brackets and wires are difficult to clean with a toothbrush, resulting in debris buildup of food or dental plaque, thus causing caries and periodontal disease. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs), and silver/titanium dioxide nanoparticles (Ag/TiO2NPs), synthesized on the surface of α-alumina ceramic brackets. The AgNPs and TiO2NPs were synthesized by a simple chemical method, and these were characterized by XRD, SEM, and XPS TEM; the antimicrobial activity was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli by diffusion test. The results of this study demonstrated that by this simple chemical method, silver and titanium dioxide nanoparticles can be synthesized on the surface of α-alumina esthetic brackets, and these NPs possess good antimicrobial activity and the possibility of reducing dental caries, periodontal disease, and white spot generated during orthodontic treatment.

OBJECTIVE: This clinical study aimed to evaluate the difference in the time of application phase, employing the conventional and modified direct orthodontic bonding method. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty patients who needed orthodontic therapy with fixed appliances were randomly divided into two equal groups (n = 15): the control and experimental group, according to the bonding method applied. A total of 600 metal brackets inch slot 0.022 (Mini Sprint®, Forestadent, Germany) were bonded to incisors, canines, and premolars using the light-cured adhesive Transbond XT (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA). The failure rates of the brackets were evaluated within 12 months. The independent samples t-test was applied. The Chi-square test and Fisher exact test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The initial bonding time using the modified method was significantly shorter (3.27 min or 17.1% per patient) compared with the conventional bonding method (p < 0.001). Number of failed brackets between the two methods did not differ significantly (p = 0.226). CONCLUSION: The time of the application phase in initial bonding using the modified method (experimental group) was shorter than in control group. There was no statistically significant difference in the number of bond failures between the two methods. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The modified application phase of direct orthodontic bracket placement shortens the total bonding time and facilitates the manual work of orthodontists.

BACKGROUND: To study and compare the effects of clear aligners without brackets and traditional fixed aligners in orthodontic treatment. METHODS: The samples were collected from January 2022 to April 2023. The control group (n = 26) received orthodontic treatment using traditional fixed appliances. The research group (n = 20) received orthodontic treatment using the clear aligners without brackets. Compare the therapeutic effects and related evaluation indicators between two groups. RESULTS: The total effective ratio was compared between the 2 groups, and the study group was greater(P < 0.05). After treatment, the detected values of the periodontal condition indicators (plaque index, debris index, and gingival bleeding index), serum inflammatory factors (CRP, IL-6 and TNF-α) of the two groups, were less than before, also were all less than the control group. (P < 0.05). After therapy, in comparison of the control group, the value of mastication efficiency, comfort and psychological evaluation, sleep indicators and the points of the four dimensions of life quality in the study group was greater, and the detection results were obviously greater than before(P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: In the orthodontic therapy of sufferers with malocclusion, compared with the traditional fixed appliance, the clear aligners without brackets can enhance the treatment effects, improve the periodontal condition and masticatory function, and reduce the inflammatory responses, so that patients can feel more comfortable, thereby improving their psychology, sleep and quality of life. In the future, with the continual advancement of technology and people's pursuit of beauty, the application of clear aligners without brackets in orthodontic treatment will become more and more extensive. The continuous introduction of new materials and new technologies will further improve the effects and comfort of the clear aligners without brackets, reduce treatment time and discomfort, and also reduce patients' resistance to aligners, bringing patients a better treatment experience.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Enamel conditioning with 37% phosphoric acid is the most common technique during orthodontic bracket bonding procedures. However, due to the repeated de-bonding of the orthodontic brackets during treatment, other methods were needed to condition the enamel surface and increase the bond strength. This study aimed to compare the effect of conditioning the enamel surface by sandblasting with aluminum oxide particles or 5.25% sodium hypochlorite gel in combination with acid etching compared to acid etching alone on shear bond strength (SBS). MATERIAL AND METHODS: One hundred eight extracted upper premolars were randomly divided into three groups according to the conditioning enamel surface method. After the first and second bonding of metal brackets, new metal brackets were bonded with a total-etching adhesive after enamel conditioning using different methods: acid etching only (37% phosphoric acid for 30 seconds) (AE group), sodium hypochlorite associated with acid etching (5.25% NaOCl gel for 60 seconds and then acid etching for 30 seconds) (NaOCl-AE group), and sandblasting associated with acid etching (sandblasting for five seconds and then acid etching for 30 seconds) (SB-AE group). The shear bond strengths of the brackets were tested with a universal testing machine. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's honestly significant difference (HSD) tests were used to detect significant differences in shear bond strength among groups at the third bonding. Repeated-measure ANOVA and Bonferroni's tests were used to detect significant differences in shear bond strength among the bonding attempts within each group. RESULTS: 5.25% sodium hypochlorite associated with the acid etching method produced significantly greater shear bond strength than sandblasting associated with acid etching and acid etching only methods at the third bonding (16.40 ± 5.80 MPa, 13.60.47 ± 6.40 MPa, and 9.90 ± 4.40 MPa, respectively; P < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference between the AE and SB-AE groups (P = 0.247). In addition, we found a significant decrease in the shear bond strength within each group after each bonding attempt. CONCLUSION: Conditioning the enamel surface with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite associated with acid etching produced greater bond strength than conditioning by sandblasting associated with acid etching and acid etching only at the third bonding. The bond strength of the metal bracket decreased with increasing bonding attempts, even with the application of enamel surface conditioning methods.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of four different photoactivation protocols (according to "photoactivated faces" - mesial/distal, cervical/incisal or center - and "photoactivation time" - 6-3 s) of a high-power photo activator (Valo Cordless®-Ultradent) on the shear bond strength (SBS) between metal brackets and dental enamel and on the degree of conversion (DC) of an orthodontic resin. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 40 bovine incisor crowns were randomly assigned to 4 groups (n = 10). The brackets were bonded with Transbond XT® resin using 4 protocols according to the "photoactivation protocol" factor (which was subdivided into photoactivated faces and photoactivation time): V3C = 3 s + center; V6C = 6 s + center; V3M3D = 3 s on mesial + 3 s on distal; V3C3I = 3 s on cervical + 3 s on incisal. All the samples were stored for 4 months (water,37ºC) and then subjected to a SBS test (100KgF,1 mm/min). 40 resin discs were made to evaluate the monomer degree of conversion. Data from the SBS and DC were assessed by One-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (5%). Bond failures were analyzed according to the Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) and evaluated by the Kruskal-Wallis test (5%). RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference (p = 0.008) in the One-way ANOVA result for SBS values between all groups, but the protocols showed statistically similar results (p ≥ 0.05-Tukey's tests) concerning the photoactivated faces (V6C, V3M3D and V3C3I) and photoactivation time (V3C and V6C) factors individually. There was no statistically significant difference (p ≥ 0.05) in the One-way ANOVA result for DC values. CONCLUSION: The SBS and DC values will vary depending on the protocol applied. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: It is possible to maintain the bracket fixation quality with the use of a high-power LED photo activator associated with a shorter photoactivation time. However, it is assumed that not all types of protocols that might be applied will provide quality bonding, such as V3C, V3M3D and V3C3I, which may - depending on the SBS and DC values - affect the final treatment time, due to brackets debonding, or increase of possibility of damage to dental enamel during bracket removal. Clinical studies are suggested to confirm the hypotheses of this research.

Despite the rise in popularity of ceramic braces for adults, the risk of enamel microcracks (EMCs) upon removal remains a significant drawback for both dental professionals and patients. Our study aimed to assess the effects of thermocycling, pre-curing, and co-curing techniques with different bonding agents on the enamel surface of teeth after the removal of ceramic brackets. We also examined the incidence, quantity, length, and direction of EMCs on tooth surfaces. Additionally, the adhesive remnant index (ARI) scores and orthodontic bracket bond failure modes were evaluated and compared. The study divided 40 extracted upper canine teeth into ten groups for further analysis. Two groups had intact enamel as the negative control, while the remaining groups had orthodontic ceramic brackets bonded using different bonding agents and curing techniques. Thermocycling was performed in five groups, and ARI was assessed after debonding. The study findings were statistically significant (p < 0.05) in demonstrating the impact of curing techniques on EMCs and debonding outcomes. Seventh-generation bonding agents resulted in complete adhesive removal (ARI = 0). The microcracks' incidence, number, and length showed insignificant results. Differences in ARI between thermocycler and non-thermocycler samples were insignificant. Both co-curing and pre-curing techniques yielded comparable ARI results. This study highlights the importance of using advanced bonding agents to minimize enamel damage during ceramic bracket debonding.

ABSTRACT

One of the biggest controversies in current orthodontics is determining the appliance to use, since today patients seek better results in shorter times, in addition to putting aesthetics first. OBJECTIVE: compare the benefits and disadvantages that arise when using fixed orthodontic appliances and transparent aligners. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An investigation and compilation of specialized bibliographic information on the topic was carried out in scientific search engines such as PubMed, SciElo and Web of Science between the years 1991 to 2023, focused on research work related to the effects of the use of orthodontic appliances. fixed compared to clear aligners. RESULTS: The review was carried out based on 53 articles found that met the selection criteria. CONCLUSION: Fixed orthodontic appliances are better in complex cases, they are more precise and less likely to relapse; Transparent aligners are more aesthetic, hygiene is more affective and the bone density of the mandibular condyle decreases.

Background: The aim of this study was threefold. Firstly, it aimed to introduce and detail a novel method for chemically etching the bases of stainless-steel orthodontic brackets. Secondly, the study sought to investigate the structural alterations within the brackets' microstructure following chemical etching compared to those with sandblasted bases, using electron microscopy analysis. Lastly, the study aimed to evaluate and compare the long-term durability and survivability of orthodontic brackets with chemically etched bases versus those with sandblasted bases, both bonded using the conventional acid etch technique with Transbond XT adhesive, over an 18-month follow-up period. Methods: The study was a randomized clinical control trial with triple blinding and split-mouth study design and consisted of two groups. The brackets in the sandblasted group were prepared by sandblasting the intaglio surface of the base of the bracket with 50 µm SiO2 particles. Hydrofluoric acid was used to roughen the base in the acid-etched group. The bases of the brackets were viewed under an electron microscope to analyze the topographical changes. Results: A total of 5,803 brackets (3,006 acid-etch, 2,797 sandblasted) in 310 patients were bonded, in a split-mouth design by the same operator. The patients were followed for 18 months. The failure rate of 2.59% and 2.7% was noted in an acid-etched and sandblasted group, respectively. There was a close approximation of curves in the Kaplan-Meier plot, and the survival distribution of the two groups in the log-rank (Mantel-Cox) test was insignificant; x2 = 0.062 (P value = 0.804). Conclusion: Acid etching if the bases of the brackets can be used as an alternative to sandblasting furthermore acid etching can be performed on the chair side.

ABSTRACT

Background: To compare incisor angulation and/or position changes among orthodontically treated patients with metal brackets and clear aligners. Methods: A total of sixty-two participants of both sexes, aged-16-40 years old, with CL I skeletal pattern and mild crowding following strict eligibility criteria were included. The patients were divided into two groups based on their treatment approach. Pre and post lateral cephalograms were collected from Riyadh Elm University (REU) and then digitally analyzed using WEBCEPH (Medical Image Analysis) software. Eight angular and two linear measurements were used for the assessment. Results: The upper incisor angulation and position showed statistically significant differences when orthodontic clear aligners were used. In contrast, no significant difference was observed with the conventional orthodontic treatment. However, the upper incisal palatal root torque decreased after clear aligner therapy compared to conventional treatment. The inter-incisal angle demonstrated a significant increase with clear aligners compared to conventional treatment. Conclusions: The current study revealed the importance of definitive guidelines upon and after treatment, in addition to determining incisor changes. Orthodontic clear aligners are distinct from conventional treatments in controlling the incisors' angulation and position. The expansion treatment modality precedes Interproximal reduction in increasing the arch perimeter.

ABSTRACT

Introduction Orthodontic mechanics involves transferring some of the applied force to the tooth's supporting components via friction, which in turn allows the tooth to move more easily. Aim The purpose of this in vitro experiment was to examine the frictional resistance (FR) of different lingual brackets utilizing Instron universal testing machines and nitinol (NiTi) archwires of varying sizes. Materials and methods Twenty-four sectional anterior die stones were replicated from a study model. They were categorized into eight categories, with the Libral lingual bracket and the JJ lingual bracket having 0.012" and 0.014" inch NiTi archwire, which were further subdivided into six subgroups. Three brackets were bonded to the anterior teeth of the upper and lower segments and replicated on other models with the help of silicon putty. Elastomeric modules were ligated to two diameters of NiTi wire (0.012" and 0.014") in each model. An Instron universal testing machine was used to measure the frictional force. Numerical data and descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation have been shown. Results In the overall analysis, it was observed that among JJ Orthodontics samples using 0.012" NiTi archwires, the maxilla exhibited a higher FR (4.205N) compared to the mandible (4.092N). Similarly, in the case of Libral Orthodontics samples with 0.012" NiTi archwires, the maxilla also demonstrated a higher FR (5.10N) than the mandible (4.97N). However, this trend did not hold for samples using 0.014" NiTi archwires. There was a statistically nonsignificant difference (p > 0.05) in the values between all the pairs of groups. Conclusion The present study concludes that Libral lingual brackets produced overall more FR than JJ lingual brackets.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the shear bond strength of ceramic brackets bonded to the enamel surface using Vertise Flow, with or without the application of phosphoric acid. Materials and Methods: Forty-five extracted human premolar teeth were randomly assigned to three groups (N=15) based on the adhesive used for bonding: 1) Transbond XT, etch, and bond; 2) Vertise Flow; 3) Etch and Vertise Flow. After a 500-round thermocycling procedure, the shear bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine. The samples were then evaluated under a stereomicroscope to determine failure modes, and the Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) was measured for each group. The data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tamhane at a significance level of P<0.05. Results: The highest shear bond strength values were observed in the Transbond XT (13.5±5.38MPa), acid etch and Vertise Flow (11.2±2.89MPa), and Vertise Flow (6.2±3.16MPa) groups, respectively, in descending order. The Vertise Flow group exhibited a significantly lower shear bond strength value compared to the other two groups, with no significant difference between the latter two. Conclusion: While all three study groups demonstrated clinically acceptable shear bond strength values, Vertise Flow showed lower values compared to the other two adhesives. The Vertise Flow composite resin system, whether used alone or with acid etching, remains a suitable choice for bonding ceramic brackets, offering the advantage of a simplified bonding procedure.

AIM: This study aims to evaluate and compare the effect of different types of bleaching dentifrices on the shear bond strength of orthodontic metal brackets bonded by light-cured composite adhesive to human teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-five human premolar teeth were randomly divided into three groups, receiving the following treatments: Group 1 (control group; teeth in this group were not bleached), Group 2 (teeth in this group were treated with active oxygen bleaching dentifrice), and Group 3 (teeth in this group were treated with peroxide bleaching dentifrice). Orthodontic brackets were bonded using a light-cured composite adhesive. A universal measuring device was used to assess the shear bond strength with a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. One-way ANOVA, post hoc Tukey tests, and an independent t-test were used to analyse the data. RESULTS: There was a highly significant difference (p≤0.001) in the mean shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to untreated teeth as compared to teeth treated with bleaching dentifrice. There was no significant difference in the mean shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to teeth treated with peroxide bleaching dentifrice or active oxygen bleaching dentifrice. CONCLUSION: There was a significant reduction in the mean shear bond strength of orthodontic metal brackets when bonded to human teeth treated with bleaching dentifrices.
