ABSTRACT

Under the theoretical approaches of the resource-based view of the firm, the dynamic capabilities and the knowledge-based view of the firm, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence that the knowledge management infrastructure has on knowledge creation processes in primary sector companies, specifically, the aquaculture sector. For the empirical analysis, the SEM-PLS approach was used on a sample of 186 shrimp farms in Ecuador. Results confirm that the environment and organizational structure, and culture influence knowledge creation, while technological resources are not significant. This can be explained by the characteristics of the central activities of the shrimp companies and the assignment of functions. From a theoretical point of view, this paper links the knowledge-based view of the firm with the activities of the primary sector. Specifically, a theoretical model is developed in which the variables that can influence the knowledge creation processes of shrimp farms are studied. Existing works in the scientific literature that analyze both perspectives are practically nil. From a managerial perspective, given the importance of the creation and renewal of knowledge to develop organizational capabilities in the face of the dynamism of the market, the findings of this study can guide managers to understand how the combination of resources can help increase stocks of knowledge useful to business objectives.

ABSTRACT

CONTEXT: Progress in mobile technology, especially the use of applications for mobile devices, can support the process of monitoring patients in palliative care (therapeutics), controlling symptoms, or providing self-care guidelines for the user, namely patients or caregivers. OBJECTIVES: To map the available knowledge regarding the use of applications for mobile devices to support adult patients in palliative care at home. METHODS: Literature review, based on the Joanna Briggs Institute model(s) for Scoping Review. All articles published until October 27, 2022, were identified in the electronic databases MEDLINE®, CINAHL®, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, Cochrane Library, and Scopus using the respective Boolean logical operators and key terms. RESULTS: A total of 634 articles were identified, and a final 24 studies were included. Eleven mobile device applications were identified, demonstrating different aspects of design, use, and technological development. These have incorporated the most recent technology in their functionalities. CONCLUSION: Mobile applications can be considered a viable and effective means of monitoring patients in palliative care. However, these applications must go beyond the academic scenario in which they were developed and move toward widespread use in practice, allowing the evaluation of the impact of this "new" intervention modality to understand their effectiveness and the application of best practices.

ABSTRACT

In today's society where there is an abundance of accessible, complex, and often false information, critical thinking (CT) is an essential skill so that citizens in general and students in particular can make complex decisions based on scientific evidence, rather than on prejudices, biases, and pre-established beliefs. In this context, the purpose of this study is to discover whether Active Learning (AL) methodology, using different technologies, contributes to improving the CT of the student body, applying it to the Digital Gender Divide (DGD). Three questionnaires were used to collect information, using both a quantitative and a qualitative approach. Open-ended questions are included for fuller answers, which are complemented by content analysis of the recordings and virtual presentations made. The results show that the AL methodology favours the development of CT in the DGD in a remarkable way. Likewise, the various technologies implemented in the methodology (e.g., the Google Applications Site, online round table discussions, role-plays, virtual presentations, and forms) are relevant to improving CT in DGD. It concludes by recommending the implementation of AL with CT as in the one carried out, to help prepare better professionals and raise awareness of how to reduce the DGD.

ABSTRACT

Scientific success is mainly supported by mentoring, which often occurs through face-to-face interactions. Changes to the research environment incurred by the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have necessitated mentorship adaptations. Here, we describe how mentors can broaden their mentorship to support trainee growth and provide reassurance about trainee development amid uncertain circumstances.

ABSTRACT

The latest research in Spain indicates that the most advanced neuromarketing consulting companies in the sector are those that have been able to innovate in the development of their own technologies and methodologies. Despite their reduced volume of business compared to total investment in marketing and market research in our country, there are signs that suggest these companies have great potential to improve this sector, which is still to be explored. For this reason, this research straddling the ethnographic method and the theoretical-descriptive method aims to help us better understand the characteristic features of this sector by actively listening to the professional voices that lead it. Its epistemological value lies in its contribution to understanding the business culture related to the professional development of neuromarketing in our country today. The study shows that the main human resources strategy of neuromarketing consulting companies is based on the creation of multidisciplinary work teams. In addition, most of them develop data analysis software, which they can safeguard under various types of copyright, and on other occasions they manage to patent them, to later apply them to the objectives and purposes of their company. This would also explain the widespread use of certain procedures and resources by the vast majority of the consulting companies investigated. Thus, the trend in the market is the implementation of different synchronization software to the available technological and methodological resources. Others have even gone so far as to create a new technological support to incorporate methodologies already in use. Therefore, this gives them exclusivity in their services and the necessary competitive advantage over their competitors. Among other factors, these inferences about how this sector really works are very likely to be very useful in the academic field, which will constitute a further step in generating critical thinking and in expanding the frontiers of knowledge around this discipline.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to understand what students of Spanish as a foreign language regard as technological resources, and what conceptions they have on these technologies in the educational setting. The research participants were six students of a public language center, between 17 and 22 years old, who attended high school or higher education, and used digital technologies in their everyday life. The construction of information was carried out through a questionnaire for association and evocation of words, and attribution of meanings to the most important word. The information was qualitatively analyzed through semantic analysis to investigate the students' conceptions. The analysis shows that the participants have a wide and diverse perception on technological resources in the classroom, encompassing the older technologies such as stereo and television, as well as the most contemporary technologies such as computer, multimedia projector and internet. For the participants, educational technologies can be described as facilitators, innovators, interactive, intrinsic to class, instrumental, fun and motivating.

ABSTRACT

In this work the influence of online technological resources on Nursing students learning semiology and Nursing semiotechnique at the Universidade Paranaense – Umuarama, Paraná, was evaluated. Data were collected through questionnaires and the officialevaluation of the discipline in different groups, with and without access to technological resources. Different types of virtual learning environments were investigated; however, criterions which facilitate use such as gratuity, open source software, and interface in Portuguese were decisive for the choice of the TelEduc environment. It presents easy navigation and intuitive interface, requiring basic knowledge of data processing and Internet. It was noticed that most of the students have their own personal computer with Internet access, what facilitates the implementation of technological resources to complement conventional education. Even students who do not have a computer at home are able to access the environment through the University Informatics Laboratories. After the implantation of this technological resource it was possible to conclude that students who had access to this tool presented better results than the group not using the virtual learningenvironment. The positive results obtained motivate the extension of this supportive methodology to other disciplines, as suggested by the students participating in the study, who reported to have considered its availability to other Nursing disciplines as excellent.

ABSTRACT

This article has the purpose to discuss the technological advances incorporated in healthcare both, the hardware and software, that are important essential and complementary for the diagnosis and oncologic treatment; and to consider their implications on the nursing practice within this scenario. The nurse should be able to evaluate theuse of these technologies on aspects regarding safety, effectiveness, cost-benefit, social impact, with emphasis on the analysis of the ethical issues surrounding the different situations. Therefore, the nurse can make decisions that favor, primarely, the patient's interests and not other interests, of any nature. It is considered that the great challenge in present times is to prepare professionals able to incorporate and update the knowledge necessary for the use of existing and new technologies without loosing the fundamental human values.
