ABSTRACT
Introduction: The relationship of risk factors with musculoskeletal disorders and their intervention is a topic of interest, given their prevalence among workers. Thus, analyzing risk factors from approaches such as the gender perspective may be an alternative. Objectives: To analyze risk factors in a health entity with a high prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in upper limbs and to describe possible intervention measures according to scientific evidence, from a gender perspective. Methods: This is an analytical study. A questionnaire was applied to 93 workers on demographic aspects, presence of factors related to the environment, the task, and the organization, extra-work activities related to musculoskeletal disorders in the upper limbs. Chi-square was used to identify significant relationships between the sex variable and individual, occupational, and non-occupational factors, corroborated by Fisher's test and prevalence ratio. According to the associations identified, a literature review was carried out to establish possible strategies. Results: Significant relationships were found between the sex variable and task-related factors such as the presence of repetitive or sudden movements (p < 0.05), supporting postulates of labor segregation. According to the literature consulted, the effectiveness of activities such as physical preparation and adaptation of the workplace under professional guidance, training activities, and breaks is discussed. It is important to review organizational factors. Conclusions: By identifying significant relationships between the sex variable and task-related factors, the present study contributes to the postulate of labor segregation, in terms of concentration of female labor in activities with particular working conditions. Regarding literature and actions, it is important to generate more studies from this perspective.

ABSTRACT
Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate dropout rates and discern potential factors contributing to the discontinuation of treatment provided to transgender individuals by the Transdisciplinary Gender Identity Program at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (PROTIG). Methodology: This study employs a descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective design to analyze socio-demographic and clinical data obtained from medical records of patients treated at PROTIG between 2000 and 2018. A structured form, devised by PROTIG's professional team, was utilized to extract and evaluate several variables including: age, gender, education level, diagnosis of F64 according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10: Version: 2010), clinical comorbidities (coded by ICD-10), laboratory diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections, distance between patients' residence and the hospital, and year of entry into PROTIG. The patient cohort was stratified into two categories based on their duration of attendance: dropout (defined as attendance for up to 365 days) and non-dropout (attendance exceeding 365 days). Categorical variables between dropout and non-dropout groups were compared using Pearson's chi-square test. Additionally, Poisson regression analysis was utilized, employing a 95% confidence interval (CI) and setting the significance level at 0.05. Results: The study included a total of 888 patients accessing PROTIG, with 275 (31%) classified in the dropout group. Of the patient population, 65.5% (n = 582) self-identified as transgender women, while 34.5% (n = 306) identified as transgender men. Significant differences were noted between the dropout and non-dropout groups. Specifically, differences were noted among transgender women (p < 0.001), individuals with lower levels of education (p < 0.001), those with fewer diagnoses classified under ICD-10 as F64 (p < 0.001), individuals exhibiting fewer clinical comorbidities recorded in ICD-10 (p < 0.001), and those who commenced inclusion in PROTIG after 2010 (p < 0.001). Conclusion: There exists a notable rate of treatment discontinuation among individuals receiving care at PROTIG, with statistically significant variances observed between groups. We posit potential rationales for this discontinuation, informed by care experiences and feedback from group attendees: Increased accessibility to outpatient services in our jurisdiction for Transgender Care, along with heightened societal awareness of gender identity fostering diverse gender expression avenues devoid of reliance on gender-affirming surgical interventions.

BACKGROUND: Globally, the counting of deaths based on gender identity and sexual orientation has been a challenge for health systems. In most cases, non-governmental organizations have dedicated themselves to this work. Despite these efforts in generating information, the scarcity of official data presents significant limitations in policy formulation and actions guided by population needs. Therefore, this manuscript aims to evaluate the accuracy, potential, and limits of probabilistic data relationships to yield information on deaths according to gender identity and sexual orientation in the State of Rio de Janeiro. METHODS: This study evaluated the accuracy of the probabilistic record linkage to obtain information on deaths according to gender and sexual orientation. Data from two information systems were used from June 15, 2015 to December 31, 2020. We constructed nine probabilistic data relationship strategies and identified the performance and cutoff points of the best strategy. RESULTS: The best data blocking strategy was established through logical blocks with the first and last names, birthdate, and mother's name in the pairing strategy. With a population base of 80,178 records, 1556 deaths were retrieved. With an area under the curve of 0.979, this strategy presented 93.26% accuracy, 98.46% sensitivity, and 90.04% specificity for the cutoff point ≥ 17.9 of the data relationship score. The adoption of the cutoff point optimized the manual review phase, identifying 2259 (90.04%) of the 2509 false pairs and identifying 1532 (98.46%) of the 1556 true pairs. CONCLUSION: With the identification of possible strategies for determining probabilistic data relationships, the retrieval of information on mortality according to sexual and gender markers has become feasible. Based on information from the daily routine of health services, the formulation of public policies that consider the LGBTQ + population more closely reflects the reality experienced by these population groups.

In recent years, there have been international references to the vocal approach for the specific group of transgender individuals, although the Latin American literature is still very timid on this matter. The purpose of this article is to identify the current norms, statistics, and vocal approach towards transgender individuals in Chile and Argentina, considering the experience of two speech and language pathologists with more than twenty years of experience on voice therapy. Reflections were made on the transgender reality in these countries, the limitations in the implementation of the depathologization of the transgender group were outlined, some current and unreliable statistics were presented, some innovative actions in the public system were highlighted, and the lack of knowledge about the benefits of vocal work for transgender men and women was discussed. The identified aspects could benefit from multicenter research that strengthens speech therapy actions with this group, contributing to depathologization and positive approach.
ABSTRACT
Among gender-expansive individuals and transgender men, body appreciation can play a protective role against minority stressors and is associated with gender euphoria. The Body Appreciation Scale (BAS-2; Tylka & Wood-Barcalow, 2015) is a leading measure of body appreciation that has been mainly validated in cisgender and mixed-gender samples; however, it has not been validated among Brazilian gender-expansive individuals and transgender men. Therefore, we evaluated the psychometric properties of the BAS-2 among adult Brazilian gender-expansive individuals and transgender men. Participants (158 gender-expansive individuals and 138 transgender men) were recruited through social media in Brazil. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) supported the original 10-item, unidimensional solution. Multigroup CFA showed configural, metric, and scalar invariance of the BAS-2 between gender-expansive individuals and transgender men. Moreover, the BAS-2 demonstrated significant negative associations, ranging from small to large, with self-objectification, drive for muscularity, and appearance-ideal internalization. We also found good internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the measure. Taken together, our results support the psychometric properties of the BAS-2 among Brazilian gender-expansive individuals and transgender men. The present work offers a valuable contribution towards better understanding facets of positive body image across gender-expansive and transgender populations.

BACKGROUND: In Colombia, health care for people with trans life experiences is characterised by countless barriers to health services and care. Commonly, trans people have experienced stigma and discrimination among health professionals, a lack of services and professionals specialized to guarantee affirmative processes from non-hegemonic gender perspectives, and there exists a marked pathologization and medicalization of services. Therefore, it is necessary to provide affirmative health services to improve health and well-being from the recognition of their needs and experiences. The article describes life narratives about health care for the gender transitions of trans women in Colombia. METHODS: A qualitative narrative study was conducted with 139 trans women in seven cities in Colombia. In-depth interviews and discussion groups were conducted between June 2019 and March 2020. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and the Atlas Ti cloud program. National and international ethical guidelines were followed in the development of the research. RESULTS: This research provided an overview of the health experiences of Colombian trans women. They reported their experiences of pathologizing approaches to transgender healthcare, stigma, discrimination, and barriers to accessing preventive, specialized, and regular healthcare services. For this reason, they opted for self-medicated gender transition processes and self-management of health care. An important aspect to consider within healthcare is that not all women want binary gender transition processes. CONCLUSION: Participants felt that in Colombia there is a lack of affirmative health care for transgender women and that there are many limitations to care related to the gender transition processes. This exposes them to more situations that violate their rights and influences their lack of confidence and their search for professional health care. In Colombia, it is important to develop strategies for education, information, and communication, as well as a handbook for health workers on specialized healthcare for trans women.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and correlate the risk of dysphonia, the presence of vocal changes and their associated factors, and the vocal self-perception of transgender women. METHOD: Observational cross-sectional study in Brazilian transgender women. The analysis addressed their age, length of experience in the gender, perceptual-auditory and acoustic vocal aspects, scores in the General Dysphonia Risk Screening Protocol (DRSP-G), and the Voice Questionnaire for Male-to-Female Transsexuals (TVQ(MtF)). The sample was divided into two groups based on the grade of vocal deviation (Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice)-with (G.W.C.) and without vocal changes (G.N.C.)-to verify the association between the presence of vocal changes and other variables. The correlation between the grade of vocal deviation and DRSP and TVQ(MtF) scores was also verified. RESULTS: The sample included 32 transgender women with a mean age of 30.1 and 11.52 years of experience as females. Over half declared themselves Black, and a third of the sample did not have a defined profession. Use of female hormones was reported by 71.9%, the majority without a medical prescription. The mean grade of vocal deviation was 22, the dysphonia risk score was 43.47, and the TVQ(MtF) score was 59.46. Nasal and pharyngeal resonance was observed in 59.4%, and the mean fundamental frequency (f0) was 156.14 Hz. G.W.C. had a shorter experience living in the redesignated genre. The participants idealized more feminine voices than they currently had. The DRSP-G and TVQ(MtF) scores had a moderate positive correlation. CONCLUSION: The study sample had characteristics compatible with some degree of social and health vulnerability. There was a moderate impact of voice on their quality of life, and despite the high risk of dysphonia, there was a low occurrence of vocal changes. There was a correlation between the DRSP-G and TVQ(MtF) scores.

The expert committee's analysis led to changes in the title, instructions, one option in the response key, and eight items to meet the equivalence criteria. In the pre-test, a significantly higher proportion of usual responses to the instrument was observed when compared to the non-applicable option; this is frequently observed in instrument adaptations. Conclusion The cross-cultural adaptation of VENI into Brazilian Portuguese was successful, resulting in the "Experiências relacionadas à Voz de Pessoas Não Binárias - VENI-Br" version.
ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Objective: to explore associations and gender differences between OHI-seeking (online health information seeking) behaviors and eHealth (electronic health) literacy among Chinese university students. Methods: Online questionnaires of eHealth literacy scale and OHI-seeking behaviors created in software Wenjunxing were used in this survey. Chi-squared tests, t-test, and Pearson correlation analysis were performed using SPSS for data analysis. Results: Among 5,383 participants, 72.4% were girls, 77.5% lived in rural areas, 51.2% majored in liberal arts, 76.6% with low education parents. The average C-eHEALS scores of boys and girls were 26.53 ± 5.861 and 26.84 ± 5.816, respectively, with no significant difference (P = 0.084). The top three OHI-seeking behaviors for boys and girls, as well as for the C-eHEALS low and high groups, were "finding information about physical exercises" "reading or sharing health information via social media" "finding information about nutrition and diet", all of which had significant gender and eHealth literacy differences. Conclusions: Gender and eHealth literacy differences should be focused for intervention when developing and implementing eHealth intervention training for parents and adolescents in schools and communities.
Abstract This study analyzed the construction process of the chosen name and related aspects among transgender individuals from a medium-sized municipality in southern Brazil. Qualitative data from a descriptive and exploratory mixed-method study was used. Self-declared trans people aged 18 or over were included. Three focus groups were conducted with ten participants. These individuals, aged between 19 and 52 years, have a documented chosen name, but half have not yet changed their civil records. The content analysis technique produced two categories: "construction of the chosen name as an instrument for validating the transgender identity" and "impacts of the construction of the chosen name on self-acceptance and on family and social relationships." The results reinforce the importance of respecting the name as a way of contributing to the gender affirmation of transgender individuals. The name was linked to the experiences, individuality and values of these individuals. Its proper use, much more than respect for legislation, meant respect for the different possibilities of human existence. It is expected that the results presented can be used as a tool for recognizing the issues and nuances that permeate the construction of the chosen name and contribute to identity validation.

Abstract Introduction The study of occupation has been very diverse in Occupational Science. Within its multidimensionality, the study of socialization processes through occupation been relevant, particularly in the study of gender. Objective To identify the meanings associated with hegemonic masculinity in the narrative of young adult men. Methodology This exploratory-descriptive study used a qualitative methodology with a hermeneutic approach. The sample was of an intentional type and was made up of five young adult men living in Santiago de Chile. The in-depth interview was used to produce information, which was applied in two sessions. The content analysis strategy was used for the analysis. Results Three categories emerge from the analysis: (a) power and dominance in masculinity; (b) transmission of masculinity through occupation; (c) masculinity, heterosexuality, and homophobia. Conclusion How hegemonic masculinity is exercised is through occupation. The men interviewed are aware of the imposition of a hegemonic masculinity, identifying the logic of power that men are forced to abide by through mechanisms of coercion and violence expressed in daily occupations in a game of permanent acceptance and rejection. Occupation is how gender is constructed and gender is reproduced through occupation.

ABSTRACT
Body image distortion is an alteration in the perception of the body that can have repercussions on health. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of body image accuracy and distortion among women participating in the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil) living in Bahia State, Brazil, and to investigate associations with socioeconomic characteristics, lifestyle, and gynecological care seeking. A total of 609 women aged 50 to 69 years participated in the study, who answered face-to-face questionnaires from 2012 to 2014. The Stunkard silhouette scale was used to investigate accurate or distorted perception for more or less weight. The relative risk ratio (RR) was calculated by multinomial logistic regression using Stata 13. Most participants have an accurate perception of their own bodies (53.7%). Among those with distorted perception, there is a tendency to distort towards less weight (38.1%). In the multinomial regression analysis, the variables race/skin color and education remained associated with the distortion towards underweight. The race/skin color variable was positively associated with the distortion towards underweight among Mixed-race women (RR = 1.89; 95%CI: 1.13-3.16) and black (RR = 2.10; 95%CI: 1.25-3.55), while the education variable among those with up to high school education (RR = 1.65; 95%CI: 1.18-2.33). There were no associations with the other variables or with distortion for more weight. The results contribute to explaining the relationships between body image perception and socioeconomic factors, revealing that women of different races/skin colors and varying educational levels are influenced in different ways by social discourses, impacting the perception of their body image.

ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Objective: To map evidence about care and gender stereotypes in nursing scientific research. Method: A scoping review developed under the JBI framework with analysis of gender perspective in care approaches. The searches were carried out on January 31, 2023 in SciELO, Scopus, CINAHL, PubMed, BDENF. Results: Of the 3,743 studies located, 25 were included. Evidence was grouped into categories: essentially female care (n = 9; 36%); calling and service of love (n = 3; 12%); erasure of gender inequalities (n = 2; 8%); "inadequate and harmful" care (n = 5; 20%); neutralization of gender and bodies (n = 3; 12%); and reporting oppression in care work (n = 3; 12%). Conclusion: Most scientific research on care reproduces gender stereotypes that reinforce the oppression of women in nursing. In contrast, resistance denounces naturalization of care as "inadequate and harmful", for perpetuating gender oppression in care work.
ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Objective To identify groups of transgender women and travestis (TGW) with specific patterns of gender-based discrimination (GBD) and analyze the factors associated with GBD. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with TGW recruited through respondent-driven sampling in five Brazilian cities (2019-2021). Latent class analysis was used to characterize GBD (low, medium, and high) using 14 observable variables. Descriptive analysis was performed, and associations between predictor variables and GBD were estimated by adjusted odds ratios (aOR) using ordinal logistic regression. Results Out of a total of 1,317 TGW, 906 (68.8%) answered questions about GBD. Most were under 34 years old, single, and had a Brown race/skin color. GBD was classified as "low," "medium," and "high," with estimates of 41.7, 44.5, and 13.8%, respectively. Variables positively associated with higher intensity of GBD included living in Manaus compared to São Paulo, being ≤34 years old compared to >34, being homeless compared to living in one's own house or rented apartment, not having legally changed one's name compared to those who had, and reporting physical or sexual violence compared to those who did not report. Variables negatively associated with higher intensity of GBD included having a Brown or Asian race/skin color compared to White and a monthly income ≥1 minimum wage compared to ³1. Conclusion A high proportion of GBD was observed in Brazilian TGW, with this outcome associated with more vulnerable sociodemographic characteristics and a history of violence.
ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Introduction: The "feminization" of medicine is a national and worldwide phenomenon. Women have been increasingly choosing this field as a profession, changing the demographics of Brazilian and international medicine. However, there are still some barriers in medical education and practice, such as perpetual gender stereotypes, which can be observed in the underrepresentation of women in surgical fields. Furthermore, wage inequality, harassment, sexism, prejudice, and gender discrimination are other challenges faced by female physicians. Objective: The article analyzed the understanding of female physicians regarding gender relations and their potential influence on their academic formation. Method: This is a qualitative study that involved semi-structured interviews that were conducted from November to December 2022 with thirteen female physicians practicing professionally in the city of Marabá, in the state of Pará. The sample was obtained using the snowball method and the Thematic Content Analysis proposed by Laurence Bardin was used to process the data. Result: The interviews pointed to a diversity of understandings about the concept of gender and demonstrated, in various regards, the interference of gender relations in medical education. The participants narrated misogynistic and sexist situations they had experienced, most of which evidenced the belittling of women's professional qualifications. Additionally, harassment was clearly evident among the contributors, as nine out of the thirteen interviewees reported episodes involving comments about their appearance, invitations, favors, and physical contact, mainly from professors and preceptors. It was also noted that stereotypes related to specialty choice are evident in the medical field, as there is a predominance of women in clinical areas such as dermatology and pediatrics and a distancing from surgical specialties. Conclusion: The participants' reports revealed the physicians' understanding of the concept of gender, with contrasting views. In addition, this work addressed how, from the perspective of female physicians, gender influences academic training in various aspects, depicting the quality of situations presented by the interviewees that highlight this interference.

This editorial introduces a thematic issue addressing the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the practice of sexual and reproductive rights in Latin America. We critically reflect on the pandemic's impact on both the legal and experiential dimensions of these rights. Drawing inspiration from Veena Das' debates, we emphasize the significance of reexamining the concepts of the extraordinary and the ordinary in gender violence and human rights violations. Furthermore, we provide a concise overview of the articles contributed to this dossier, highlighting their role in creating a historical record and serving as a denunciation of practices and situations that should neither be replicated nor trivialized.

Health LawABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: Cisgender men were mostly affected during the 2022 mpox multinational outbreak, with few cases reported in women. This study compares the characteristics of individuals diagnosed with mpox infection according to gender in Rio de Janeiro. METHODS: We obtained surveillance data of mpox cases notified to Rio de Janeiro State Health Department (June 12 to December 15, 2022). We compared women (cisgender or transgender) to men (cisgender or transgender) using chi-squared, Fisher's exact, and Mood's median tests. RESULTS: A total of 1306 mpox cases were reported; 1188 (91.0%) men (99.8% cisgender, 0.2% transgender), 108 (8.3%) women (87.0% cisgender, 13.0% transgender), and 10 (0.8%) non-binary persons. Compared to men, women were more frequently older (40+years: 34.3% vs. 25.1%; p < 0.001), reported more frequent non-sexual contact with a potential mpox case (21.4% vs. 9.8%; p = 0.004), fewer sexual partnerships (10.9 vs. 54.8%; p < 0.001), less sexual contact with a potential mpox case (18.5% vs. 43.0%; p < 0.001), fewer genital lesions (31.8% vs. 57.9%; p < 0.001), fewer systemic mpox signs/symptoms (38.0% vs. 50.1%; p = 0.015) and had a lower HIV prevalence (8.3% vs. 46.3%; p < 0.001), with all cases among transgender women. Eight women were hospitalized; no deaths occurred. The highest number of cases among women were notified in epidemiological week 34, when the number of cases among men started to decrease. CONCLUSIONS: Women diagnosed with mpox presented differences in epidemiological, behavioral, and clinical characteristics compared to men. Health services should provide a comprehensive assessment that accounts for gender diversity.

The Minority Stress (MS) model explains how prejudice-related stressors lead lesbian, gay, and bisexual people (LGB) to have worse negative mental health outcomes compared to heterosexuals. The basic components of MS are internalized prejudice, anticipated prejudice, and experienced prejudice. MS model was first developed in the field of sexuality and is now also applied in the context of gender diversity. There are still no adapted tools for its assessment in the context of gender diversity in Brazil. To this end, this study aims at the cross-cultural adaptation and production of validity evidence for the Brazilian context of a protocol for the "assessment of MS in transgender and gender diverse people" (PEM-TD-BR). It included 455 participants whose current gender identity disagreed with that assigned at birth. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes suggest the three-factor structure of the PEM-TD-BR as the most appropriate and provide evidence for the validity and reliability for the protocol in the Brazilian context.
