ABSTRACT

Indirect inguinal hernia is a common congenital abnormality in children. In female infants, herniation of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus has been reported. Herniation of the ovaries is a rare congenital condition that may be complicated by strangulation, torsion, and infertility. A 6-week-old female infant presented with visible swelling in the right inguinal region. This case highlights the utility of ultrasonography as a cheap and easily available imaging technique that can be used for the characterization of the hernial contents, and guide the management, further accentuated by the use of color Doppler imaging, of this subtle but crucial entity.

ABSTRACT

Isolated left ventricular hypoplasia is an entity with uncertain natural history and etiology. The presentation could vary from being asymptomatic to sudden death. This form of cardiomyopathy has been reported in infants as well as in adults. This case report aims to alert physicians to this diagnosis and the undeniable advantage of cardiac magnetic resonance.

ABSTRACT

Double-chambered right ventricles (DCRV) and left ventricles are rare entities on their own. We present two cases with an unusual combination of double-chambered right as well as left ventricles. One was discovered in a 28-year-old female, while the other was found at birth in a female child. The differing nature of both the patient demographics as well as the presentation with a common morphological background is shown on both computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. The oldest description of an obstructive muscular band within the right ventricle was given in 1867. In the literature, there is ample description of the long-term prognosis and management guidelines for DCRV, but no inheritance patterns or risk factors have been identified except for associations with septal defects, tetralogy of Fallot and transposition of the great arteries. A combination of both double-sided left as well as right ventricles has been published in literature a few times with little details about management and prognosis. SIMILAR CASES PUBLISHED: Although many cases of DCRV and DCLV have been published, to our knowledge only 3 cases of combined DCRV and DCLV have been published in literature.

ABSTRACT

We present the images of a 4-year-old male child with history of recurrent unexplained urinary tract infections which was found to be due to an ingested wooden foreign body which had perforated the small bowel into the posterior bladder wall. Such cases are very rare, usually due to domestic abuse or in patients with psychiatric illnesses. The adults usually report early but in children these cases go un-noticed. These patients may present with features of bowel obstruction, perforation, or hematochezia.1 as recurrent urinary tract infections seems to be the first case to be reported.
