ABSTRACT
Although increased response rates concomitant in hepatitis C virus but relapse after treatment is threatened. Therefore, it is terrible requirement to evaluate the response of Pegylated interferon and direct acting antivirals in Punjab Pakistan. The study was conducted to find the rate of recurrence of HCV infection after treatment with Pegylated Interferon and Direct Acting Antivirals in Punjab Pakistan. This study was conducted at Department of Pathology, Nawaz Sharif Medical College Gujrat, while treatment effects monitored in different Government and Private Hospitals of Punjab, Pakistan. Total 973 patients who administered the recommended dose and divided in two groups (i) Interferon based therapy (ii) direct acting antivirals (DAAs).Other parameters like ALT and viral load studied. The rate of recurrence was higher in female infected with genotype 2b and in male with mixed genotype 3a/2b after six month of antiviral therapy. Genotype 3a showed significant response to therapy after three month. 32 among 374 (8.5%) were positive after 24 weeks of treatment with interferon, 29 (7.7%) patients have same genotype while 3 patients were re-infected with different HCV strains. With DAAs, only 27 (4.8%) patients were positive among 558 after 2 weeks and one patient re-infected with different genotype. Early and sustained virological response noted in DAAs. ALT and viral load decreased faster with DAAs that not achieved after 4 weeks with pegylated interferon. Sustained virological response appears in DAAs and recurrence rate is high in interferon therapy compared to DAAs. Therefore, reinfection has implications for correct treatment efficiency and to select strategies for retreatment cases.(AU)

The present study intended to identify the effects of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast on production performance and parameters related to the quality of layers' eggs. Effects of yeast on immune titers after routine vaccinations against Newcastle disease and infectious bronchitis were also studied. Fayoumi chicken (n=288) were divided in four groups (72 in each), and Black Australorp (n=288) in four groups (72 in each). Both had 12 weeks of age and were kept in 08 groups (3 replicates per treatment). Hens were fed a controlled diet along with the addition of 0.5g, 1.0 g, and 1.5 g of S. cerevisiae per kg of feed, till 25 weeks of age. Feed intake and egg production were measured on a daily basis, while body weight gain and egg weight were measured weekly. Egg quality parameters were evaluated by picking 5 eggs from every group weekly. Birds were vaccinated for Newcastle disease (ND) and infectious bronchitis (IB) at the 18th week. Subsequently, 10 days after vaccination, antibody titers were determined by Hemagglutination Inhibition and Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay for both diseases. Results showed no significant effect of S. cerevisiae on layers' weight gain and feed intake. However, egg production was increased in the experimental group. Moreover, yeast supplementation impacted positively on birds' immune system. In conclusion, probiotic supplementation improved birds' egg production and immunity.(AU)

ABSTRACT
An outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emerged in China in December 2019 and spread so rapidly all around the globe. It's continued and spreading more dangerously in India and Brazil with higher mortality rate. Understanding of the pathophysiology of COVID-19 depends on unraveling of interactional mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 and human immune response. The immune response is a complex process, which can be better understood by understanding the immunological response and pathological mechanisms of COVID-19, which will provide new treatments, increase treatment efficacy, and decrease mortality associated with the disease. In this review we present a amalgamate viewpoint based on the current available knowledge on COVID-19 which includes entry of the virus and multiplication of virus, its pathological effects on the cellular level, immunological reaction, systemic and organ presentation. T cells play a crucial role in controlling and clearing viral infections. Several studies have now shown that the severity of the COVID-19 disease is inversely correlated with the magnitude of the T cell response. Understanding SARS-CoV-2 T cell responses is of high interest because T cells are attractive vaccine targets and could help reduce COVID-19 severity. Even though there is a significant amount of literature regarding SARS-CoV-2, there are still very few studies focused on understanding the T cell response to this novel virus. Nevertheless, a majority of these studies focused on peripheral blood CD4+ and CD8+ T cells that were specific for viruses. The focus of this review is on different subtypes of T cell responses in COVID-19 patients, Th17, follicular helper T (TFH), regulatory T (Treg) cells, and less classical, invariant T cell populations, such as δγ T cells and mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells etc that could influence disease outcome.

Microhabitat factors associated with the habitat of barking deer (Muntiacus vaginalis) were examined and compared between summer and winter seasons. Habitat characteristics and preferred habitat were measured by locating direct and indirect signs. To quantify the habitat utilization of barking deer, each selected study site was sampled for floral diversity from 2015 to 2017. Quadrats were deployed along transect lines to determine seasonal distribution. Barking deer were not evenly distributed across vegetation types in the study area; they occurred more often in the broad-leaved forest than in Chir pine forest, at an elevational range of 550-850 m, in thick vegetation on steep slopes. The most preferred habitat included trees and shrubs with 30% and 69% cover, respectively. Barking deer avoided thicker tree cover, possibly as it hinders movement and escape from predators. No significant difference (χ2 = 6.37, df = 3, p = 0.19) in seasonal vegetation cover was recorded.

This study was carried out in the laboratory of Shangqiu Institute of Technology, Henan to investigate the effect of a different combination of inorganic salt on the quality and physiological characteristics of cut flowers (CFs) of Perpetual Carnation. Furthermore, to find out the best preservation solution of inorganic salt that can enhance the ornamental value of CFs of Carnation and prolong its vase life. Sucrose, 8-hydroxyquinoline, paclobutrazol, salicylic acid and different kinds of inorganic salts were added as a preservation solution. And the same amount of distilled water was used as control. The effects of these various inorganic salts on the morphological characteristics including vase life, changes in flower stems, fresh weight (FW) and water balance and the physiological characteristics including contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), cell membrane permeability and the contents of proline of carnation were investigated. The CFs placed in vase solution with inorganic salts showed significant changes in its morphology and physiological characteristics as compared to control. The changes in flower diameter (FD), FW, malondialdehyde and cell membrane permeability showed an increasing trend first and then decreasing. The value of water balance was observed with a downward trend. However, the vase life, FD, the contents of malondialdehyde, contents of proline and FW of CFs held in the preservative solution containing inorganic salts were increased than that of control. The fresh preservative solution contained sucrose 3% + 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) (200 mg·L1) + paclobutrazol (100 mg·L1) + salicylic acid (SA) (25 mg·L1) + CaCl2 (100 mg·L1) has the best effect on longevity (34 days), FW and FD of carnation CFs. This solution has improved the ornamental and physiological characteristics of fresh carnation CFs.(AU)

The fresh preservative solution contained sucrose 3% + 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) (200 mg·Lâ¾1) + paclobutrazol (100 mg·Lâ¾1) + salicylic acid (SA) (25 mg·Lâ¾1) + CaCl2 (100 mg·Lâ¾1) has the best effect on longevity (34 days), FW and FD of carnation CFs. This solution has improved the ornamental and physiological characteristics of fresh carnation CFs.

ABSTRACT
We studied blood pressure in the first hours of life in a cohort of 1105 preterm infants weighing 501 to 2000 gm; these infants represented 83% of all births at these weights that resulted in admission to three intensive care nurseries during a 34-month period between 1984 and 1987. To assess the effects of specific risk factors, we identified 244 healthy infants, 164 infants who received mechanical ventilation but had no other conditions, 47 infants whose only risk factor was the presence of hypertension or preeclampsia in the mother, and 86 infants with depressed Apgar scores regardless of the presence of the other conditions. We documented each infant's minimum and maximum systolic (Smin, Smax) and diastolic (Dmin, Dmax) pressures during the first 3 to 6 hours of life. In the healthy group, Smin was 47 mmHg; Smax, 59 mmHg; Dmin, 24 mmHg; and Dmax, 35 mmHg. In the ventilation group, Smin was 41 mmHg; Smax, 57 mmHg; Dmin, 22 mmHg; and Dmax, 35 mmHg. The Smin and Dmin values were both significantly lower in infants who received mechanical ventilation than in healthy infants (p < 0.01). In the maternal hypertension group, Smin was 49 mmHg; Smax, 59 mmHg; Dmin, 25 mmHg; and Dmax, 34 mmHg. Only the Smin value was significantly higher than in healthy infants. In the group with low Apgar scores, Smin was 33 mmHg; Smax, 51 mmHg; Dmin, 19 Hg; and Dmax, 34 mmHg. Thus all these values were significantly lower than in all the other groups (p < 0.05). Of infants with low Apgar scores, 20% to 50% had values below the 5th percentile for healthy infants. Birth weight and gestational age correlated with blood pressure limits only in the infants with low Apgar scores. We conclude that in healthy premature infants the limits of systolic and diastolic blood pressure are independent of birth weight and gestational age. Infants with low Apgar scores tend to have lower pressures, and infants whose mothers have hypertension have higher pressures than infants in the healthy cohort.

We sought to determine whether arginine vasopressin (AVP) modulates arterial pressure (AP) by a receptor-mediated action in the nucleus reticularis rostroventrolateralis (nRVL). Immunocytochemical labeling with an antiserum against a synthetic AVP conjugate revealed a discrete although modest presumptive neuropeptidergic innervation of the nRVL. Electron microscopic analysis of vasopressinergic processes in the nRVL revealed that AVP-like immunoreactivity (AVP-LI) was primarily in axons and axon terminals. Immunoreactive terminals contained numerous small clear vesicles and large dense core vesicles and formed synapses with unlabeled dendrites. In the nRVL, retrograde transport-immunofluorescence data demonstrated close appositions between vasopressinergic beaded processes and a compact subambigual column of reticulospinal neurons labeled by deposits of cholera toxin beta-subunit into the thoracic spinal cord. Similar methods were used to define the origins of the AVP-afferent projection to nRVL. These retrograde transport-immunofluorescence studies demonstrated numerous retrogradely labeled neurons in the hypothalamus, including the paraventricular nucleus (PVN), after injections of a retrograde tracer, Fluoro-Gold into the ventrolateral medulla. However, double-labeled neurons were rare and confirmed a diffuse AVP afferent innervation of the sympathoexcitatory area. Microinjection of AVP into the nRVL in anesthetized rats produced a large dose-related increase in AP different from control at a dose of 1 pmol or higher. AVP injected intravenously elevated AP only at significantly higher doses. Microinjections of AVP into the nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) had a smaller effect whereas into the caudal ventrolateral medulla exerted no effect on AP. Bilateral microinjections of an AVP antagonist, d(CH2)5[Tyr(Me)2]AVP into the nRVL produced no change in AP but blocked the increase produced by subsequent injections of AVP. An acute hemorrhage produced by withdrawal of 2 ml of blood from the femoral vein did not alter AP. However, bilateral microinjections of the AVP antagonist into the nRVL 5 min after hemorrhage decreased AP. In contrast, the AVP-antagonist injected intravenously after hemorrhage had no effect on AP. Our data suggest that under conditions demanding increased sympathetic drive to maintain AP, such as hemorrhage, a functional AVP receptor mechanism via terminals in the nRVL may be activated to restore normal levels of AP.

We studied 47 infants with either grade 3 or grade 4 intraventricular hemorrhage, to assess the efficacy of intermittent lumbar punctures in the prevention of post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus in a prospective controlled trial. The control group received supportive care only, whereas the treatment group additionally underwent intermittent spinal taps. The spinal taps were started at postnatal age 11 +/- 5 days and continued for 20 +/- 16 days, with the removal of 67 +/- 101 ml cerebrospinal fluid using 16 +/- 12 taps. The two groups were comparable with regard to birth weight, gestational age, race, sex, Apgar score, and severity of hemorrhage. Three infants in the control group died, compared with two infants in the study group. Nine infants in the control group and 10 infants in the study group developed hydrocephalus requiring a ventriculoperitoneal shunt or a ventricular catheter reservoir. These differences in the outcome in the two groups are not statistically significant. We conclude that serial lumbar punctures were unsuccessful in prevention of hydrocephalus in this group of preterm infants with intraventricular hemorrhage.

PIP: Data from an island-wide probability sample of 4119 Barbadian females aged 16-50 were used to study whether there has been an intergenerational fertility decline between the respondents and their mothers. The fertility of the respondents, all from the low or lower middle class, was significantly lower than that of their mothers. However, the size of the family of procreation was seen to be positively related to the size of the family of orientation; i.e., those from large families tended to have large families and vice versa. There was, however, a regression to the mean. There were no differences between women from small and large families as to fertility norms, age at 1st use of contraceptives, or actual practice of contraception. Women from small families did tend to enter sexual relationships and get pregnant at a later age. The women from small families were better educated, earned higher incomes, and had higher status occupations, all factors which might have influenced their fertility. Women from larger families cited higher numbers for both small and large families than did the women from small families. This indicates a perceptual difference which was, in turn, related to fertility differences.^ieng
