ABSTRACT

Based on the literature and own cases author presented difficulties in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of fistulas and cysts of the nose and periauricular region. In the ENT Department of Voivodeship Hospital in Kalisz from 1984 to 1998: 9 patients with fistulas and periauricular cysts were treated, among them 5 men and 4 women, and 5 patients with congenital fistulas and cysts of the nose. The patients were 11-69 years old. All patients notified because of inflammation, all were operated on with microscope without external section. Diagnosis was confirmed histopathologically. Cosmetic results were good. Localisation and surgical technique were presented. In observation from 5 to 18 years the authors did not have any recurrence.

ABSTRACT

8 cases of tuberculosis were presented in this paper. Two patients had changes in the larynx and pharynx and one patient had pharyngeal tuberculosis and squamous carcinoma of epiglottis. Further specialty investigations e.g. MDL, biopsy, histopathological and bacteriological examinations were done and revealed proper diagnosis tuberculosis. Etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostic were described. Changes of tuberculosis were in unusual location. All patients were treated tuberculostatic drugs.

ABSTRACT

We presented the case report of a postoperative maxillary cyst, which developed 26 years after the radical Caldwel-Luc procedure in the maxillary sinus. This is a rare case in non-oriental population but it has been described well in Japanese literature. Considering the size and damage found in clinical and radiological examination, we suspected a malignant lesion.

ABSTRACT

The authors presented symptoms of botulism, diagnostics and treatment. In this case there was a necessity of urgent tracheotomy. The authors had good results because of early treatment with serum antibotulism A+B+C and symptomatic treatment. Decannulation was only after 45 days because the paralytic symptoms declined very slowly.

ABSTRACT

Between 1984 and 2001, 33 patients were treated because of foreign bodies in their lower respiratory tract. The age of patients ranged from 0 to 74 years, but the most numerous group was children between 0 and 5 years--16 cases and between 6 and 15 years--9 cases. The most often met foreign bodies were: organic--17 cases, metal bodies 7, plastic 7. We found proliferous changes in 2 patients. In all cases foreign bodies were removed by means of rigid bronchoscopy. In 30 cases they were treated within 48 hours. Only in one case, a ring, retained for 6 weeks. We didn't have any complications.

ABSTRACT

The authors presents a very rare disease of trachea and bronchi on the basis of literature and their own case a 49-years old man. The diagnosis was made on the basis of CT trachea and bronchi, tracheobronchoscopy and biopsy with histopathological examination. The etiology of the disease is still unknown. It may be genetically determined.

ABSTRACT

In the nasopharynx we can find malignant and non-malignant tumors. Authors present diagnostic difficulties on the base on literature and seven own cases. CT and NMR is needed to describe infiltration. Besides new methods radiotherapy and chemotherapy prognosis is poor. We have good results in early surgery in non-malignant tumors.

ABSTRACT

On the base of literature and their own 123 patients the authors present the frequency, diagnostics and treatment of congenital neck fistulas and cysts. We had 9 congenital fistulas: 6 median and 3 lateral. We treated 114 patients with neck cysts.: 29 median and 85 lateral, from which 50 were at the right side. The disease mainly manifested in 10-19 year-old patients--25 cases and in 30-39 year-old patients--21 cases. We divided the lateral neck cysts according to Bailey's--the most frequent of which were of III type--44.7%, II type--32.94%, IV type 16.58% and I type 5.88%. All patients were radically operated on-that is they had totally enucleated fistula or cyst. In the case of median fistulas or cysts we didn't extirpate the body of the hyoid bone but in the case of duct going to caecal foramen of the tongue, we elevated the hyoid bone and with Storz lupe we prepared the duct to the root of the tongue. We didn't have any recurrence resulting from this kind of treatment. We had a recurrence in one patient (0.81%) with median cyst of the neck which was localised in the lower part of the neck and was connected with thyroid. We reoperated this patient and we had a complete recovery.
