ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to determine the thyroid, sternum and hand radiation doses of radiologists who perform angiographies and angioplasties via the radial artery. Staff radiation dose was estimated for 21 cardiac interventional catheterisations. Thermoluminescence dosemeters (TLDs) were used to determine radiation dose for each procedure at the right and left wrist, at the sternum and the thyroid. A dose area product (DAP) meter was also attached to give a direct value in Gy cm2 for each procedure. Staff radiation doses varied between 34 and 235 microGy per procedure at the left wrist, 28 and 172 microGy at the right wrist, 16 and 106 microGy at the level of the thyroid and 16 and 154 microGy at the level of the sternum. The DAP values varied between 25 and 167 Gy cm2. Radiation doses in this study are comparable to those reported in previous studies. Moreover, good correlation was found between the DAP values and the occupational dose measured with TLDs.

ABSTRACT

We describe a patient with a rare coronary arteriovenous fistula connecting the left main stem to the main pulmonary artery. This rare case was discovered during routine coronary angiography for the evaluation of the patient s coronary heart disease.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed at determining the different test behaviour of aged chronic schizophrenics compared with acutely schizophrenic patients. 198 patients were examined who fulfilled the criteria of diagnosis of schizophrenia according to K. Schneider, who were more than 60 years old, and whose IQ was over 60. The author used the MWT Intelligence Test (Erlangen), the Syndrome Test Method, MMPI, Tree Test, Defect Test Battery according to Kinzel, and the Shape Interpretation Test after Rorschach. 158 of these patients passed all the tests. The results confirm the author's assumption that test profiles of chronic schizophrenics are different in aged patients from these obtained in acute schizophrenia. There was also no similarity to the results obtained in persons who suffered from organic defects. It is concluded that the test methods described here cannot be employed for confirming schizophrenia as diagnosis in chronic schizophrenics and in aged, relapsed patients.

ABSTRACT

A successful therapy of drug-dependents can only be carried out in special facilities providing intensive inter-disciplinary care. In the Hochstadt district hospital (Bezirksklinik Hochstadt) treatment encompasses detoxication, weaning and after-care. The goal of the therapy is the permanent abstinence of the patient, finding of his identity, treatment of his somatic and psychic disturbances and diseases as well as the learning of techniques enabling him to resist addiction producing substances after his discharge from hospital, and his social re-integration. The methods used are group-therapy, as a behavioural therapy with psychodynamic aspects, ergotherapy and physiotherapy as well as socio-therapeutic measures. The therapy has a high success rate. Catamnestic studies show that 50% of the patients were still abstinent one year after their date of discharge.

ABSTRACT

Neuropsychiatric and psychosomatic disorders occurring the exocrine pancreatic diseases are not rare, nevertheless didn't it seem to be very interesting in research and there exists no summarizing work of this disorders. Therefore we tried to give a comprehensive representation of those neuropsychiatric problems which are connected with the function of this organ. At first we give a description of psychopathology and pathogenesis of the functional pancreatic psychosis. The problematic of the reciprocal relationship of nervous system and pancreatitis, alcoholism and pancreatitis are demonstrated as well as the psychic disorders occurring the pancreas insufficiency, cystes of pancreas and congenital pancreatic diseases. Psychosomatic and mental disorders of pancreas carcinoma and mucoviscidosis are shown in detail. The question of the interrelation between pancreatic function and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or parathyreotic diseases are discussed just as themes of neuropsychiatric pharmacotherapie and pancreatic function and mental disorders in pancreatic treatment.
