ABSTRACT

The goal of blind image super-resolution (BISR) is to recover the corresponding high-resolution image from a given low-resolution image with unknown degradation. Prior related research has primarily focused effectively on utilizing the kernel as prior knowledge to recover the high-frequency components of image. However, they overlooked the function of structural prior information within the same image, which resulted in unsatisfactory recovery performance for textures with strong self-similarity. To address this issue, we propose a two stage blind super-resolution network that is based on kernel estimation strategy and is capable of integrating structural texture as prior knowledge. In the first stage, we utilize a dynamic kernel estimator to achieve degradation presentation embedding. Then, we propose a triple path attention groups consists of triple path attention blocks and a global feature fusion block to extract structural prior information to assist the recovery of details within images. The quantitative and qualitative results on standard benchmarks with various degradation settings, including Gaussian8 and DIV2KRK, validate that our proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of fidelity and recovery of clear details. The relevant code is made available on this link as open source.

ABSTRACT

Photothermal therapy (PTT) of nanomaterials is an emerging novel therapeutic strategy for breast cancer. However, there exists an urgent need for appropriate strategies to enhance the antitumor efficacy of PTT and minimize damage to surrounding normal tissues. Piezo1 might be a promising novel photothermal therapeutic target for breast cancer. This study aims to explore the potential role of Piezo1 activation in the hyperthermia therapy of breast cancer cells and investigate the underlying mechanisms. Results showed that the specific agonist of Piezo1 ion channel (Yoda1) aggravated the cell death of breast cancer cells triggered by heat stress in vitro. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was significantly increased following heat stress, and Yoda1 exacerbated the rise in ROS release. GSK2795039, an inhibitor of NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2), reversed the Yoda1-mediated aggravation of cellular injury and ROS generation after heat stress. The in vivo experiments demonstrate the well photothermal conversion efficiency of TiCN under the 1,064 nm laser irradiation, and Yoda1 increases the sensitivity of breast tumors to PTT in the presence of TiCN. Our study reveals that Piezo1 activation might serve as a photothermal sensitizer for PTT, which may develop as a promising therapeutic strategy for breast cancer.

ABSTRACT

Thick plate steel structure is widely used in the construction machinery, pressure vessels, ships, and other manufacturing fields. To obtain an acceptable welding quality and efficiency, thick plate steel is always joined by laser-arc hybrid welding technology. In this paper, Q355B steel with a thickness of 20 mm was taken as the research object, and the process of narrow-groove laser-arc hybrid welding was studied. The results showed that the laser-arc hybrid welding method could realize one-backing and two-filling welding with the single-groove angles of 8-12°. At different plate gaps of 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.5 mm, the shapes of weld seams were satisfied with no undercut, blowhole, or other defects. The average tensile strength of welded joints was 486~493 MPa, and the fracture position was in the base metal area. Due to the high cooling rate, a large amount of lath martensite formed in heat-affected zone (HAZ) and this zone exhibited higher hardness values. The impact roughness of the welded joint was almost 66-74 J, with different groove angles.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The Catfish stent retriever is a newly developed mechanical thrombectomy device for rapid recanalisation in emergent large vessel occlusion (ELVO) stroke. The current trial aimed to assess whether the Catfish stent retriever is non-inferior to the Solitaire stent retriever in terms of outcomes in ELVO stroke. METHODS: This was a randomised, prospective, parallel-group, multicentre, open-label, non-inferiority study conducted at 18 sites in China. The primary outcome was the proportion of cases with successful recanalisation (modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction score of 2b or 3) following the procedure. Secondary efficacy outcomes included the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale scores at 24 hours and 7 days or discharge if earlier, time from artery puncture to successful recanalisation and good clinical outcome (modified Rankin scale score ≤2) at 90 days. Safety outcomes included symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage, all cause-death and severe adverse events at 90 days. RESULTS: Between 3 March 2019 and 5 June 2021, 118 and 120 patients were randomly allocated to the Catfish and Solitaire groups, respectively. The primary endpoint after all endovascular procedures was non-inferior in the Catfish group (88.5%, 100/113) than in the Solitaire group (87.7%, 100/114), with a rate difference (RD) of 0.78% (95% CI -7.64 to -9.20; p=0.001). Sensitivity analysis only considering the per-protocol set also yielded similar results, with an RD of 0.83% (95% CI -7.03 to -8.70; p<0.001). Additionally, the proportions of cases with good clinical outcomes (47.8% vs 50.0%, p=0.739) and all-cause death rates (17.7% vs 18.8%, p=0.700) were similar in both groups at 90 days. CONCLUSIONS: The Catfish stent retriever is an effective and safe device for endovascular recanalisation in ELVO stroke. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT03820882.

ABSTRACT

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies and most of the patients diagnosed with advanced CRC have unsatisfactory treatment effect and poor prognosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of CCNI2 on the development of CRC. In this sutdy, immunohistochemical staining was used to detect CCNI2 expression levels in clinical samples, meanwhile, the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was conducted. Celigo cell counting assay was used for screening shCCNI2s. QPCR and WB were performed to verify knockdown efficiency of CCNI2. Cell proliferation, colony formation, cell cycle, apoptosis, and mechanism investigation of CCNI2 knockdown were investigated by MTT assay, colony formation assay, fluorescence-activated cell sorting, and human apoptosis antibody array, respectively. Otherwise, the mouse model of CCNI2 knockdown was also constructed. The results of immunohistochemical staining and qPCR indicated that CCNI2 had a high expression level in the CRC tissues and cell lines. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis manifested that the high expression of CCNI2 suggested poor prognosis. The expression of CCNI2 was significantly reduced by CCNI2-siRNAs, and the downregulated expression level of CCNI2 inhibited CRC cell proliferation and colony formation, arrested cell cycle in G2 phase, as well as promoted cell apoptosis. The various indexes of solid tumor in mice models indicated that CCNI2 knockdown could suppress the growth of CRC tumor. Based on the comprehensive analysis of the above results, CCNI2 was contributed to the progression of CRC and could serve as a prognostic marker for CRC.

ABSTRACT

This paper is a continued study on laser cleaning removal of marine microbiofouling from Al alloy surfaces. According to our previous study, it is noted that the antifouling functions of the generated laser-cleaned metallic surfaces must be highlighted. In this work, the inhibition effectiveness of the laser-cleaned Al alloy surfaces was evaluated using a type of vital marine microorganism, sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) Desulfovibrio desulfuricans subsp. desulfuricans, in a dynamic bacterial solution. Before the immersion tests, the laser-cleaned surfaces with nanostructures were chemically processed into superhydrophilic, superhydrophobic, and ultraslippery surfaces. SRB attachment behaviors as well as inhibition mechanisms of the three surfaces to the SRB settlement were characterized and revealed. The SRB adhering to the above surfaces presented three different morphologies, i.e., broken, dented, and plump cells. Superhydrophilic surfaces unexpectedly showed a not inferior antibacterial ability. A piercing effect of the nanostructures caused nontoxic mechanical damage to the cell membranes. The antiadhesion property of superhydrophobic solid-air hybrid surfaces was unreliable due to the loss of air bubbles. The morphology of the last surviving SRB cells left on the ultraslippery surfaces was basically plump. The stable repellent function of the surfaces was responsible for the vigorous prevention of the adhesion of the SRB. The research results offer an insight into the antibacterial/antiadhesion properties of the laser-cleaned surfaces and a practical value for the periodic service of marine high-end equipment.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To unveil the efficacy of Shaolin internal qigong exercise in treating capsulitis of the shoulder (CS) and explore objective outcome measures by observing the changes in the surface electromyography (sEMG) signals of shoulder muscle groups after regular practice of Shaolin internal qigong exercise in CS patients. Methods: Sixty CS patients were randomized into two groups by the random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. Patients in the qigong group practiced Shaolin internal qigong exercise on a regular basis, while patients in the electroacupuncture (EA) group received EA treatment. Before and after treatment, the sEMG signals of six muscles, i.e. biceps brachii, triceps brachii, deltoid, pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi and trapezius muscles, of the affected side were recorded at 45° abduction of the shoulder, 60° forward flexion and 90° internal rotation with the elbow flexed during maximal isometric contraction, and the integrated electromyography (iEMG) of each muscle was calculated. Results: The total effective rate was 93.3% in the qigong group, higher than 83.3% in the EA group (P<0.05). Intra-group comparison showed that the iEMG of biceps brachii, triceps brachii, pectoralis major and deltoid muscles in the qigong group increased significantly after intervention at 45° abduction of the shoulder, 60° forward flexion and 90° internal rotation with the elbow flexed (all P<0.05), and the iEMG of trapezius and latissimus dorsi muscles decreased (both P<0.05); in the EA group, the iEMG of biceps brachii, pectoralis major and deltoid muscles increased significantly during contraction (all P<0.05), while the iEMG of triceps brachii, trapezius and latissimus dorsi muscles had no significant changes (all P>0.05). After intervention, there were significant differences in the iEMG of most of muscles between the two groups (all P<0.05), except for the iEMG of deltoid muscle at 45° of abduction of the shoulder joint during isometric contraction (P>0.05). Conclusion: Shaolin internal qigong exercise can effectively increase the motion intensity of the biceps brachii, triceps brachii, pectoralis major and deltoid muscles and reduce the compensation of the latissimus dorsi and trapezius muscles in CS patients; compared with EA, it produces a better result in improving the coordination and stability in shoulder joint movements.

ABSTRACT

Objective  To investigate the effect of pre-pregnancy age, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), blood glucose (GLU) level on premature birth. Methods Based on the free pre-marital health check-ups and pre-pregnancy eugenic health check-ups in Dongguan, the examination results of the subjects were obtained and the pregnancy outcomes were followed up. Logistic regression models were used to analyze the relationship between women’s pre-pregnancy age, ALT, and GLU levels and the incidence of premature birth. Results A total of 18 150 subjects were included in this study, and the overall incidence of premature birth was 6.06% (1,099/18,150). The women’s pre-pregnancy age 30 to 34 (RR=1.26, 95% CI:1.07~1.48), age>34 (RR=1.82, 95% CI:1.52~2.18), ALT≥40 U/L (RR=1.40, 95% CI: 1.09~1.80) and GLU>6.1 mmol/L(RR=1.74, 95% CI: 1.01~2.97) were the influencing factors of premature birth. Conclusion Older women, abnormal serum alanine aminotransferase level and hyperglycemia had an impact on the occurrence of premature birth, which has important guiding significance for health education of eugenics before pregnancy.

ABSTRACT

Ti4Al6V and 6061 Al dissimilar metals were butt welded by the laser oscillating welding method. The effects of laser offset, oscillation frequency, and energy distribution on the formation, microstructure, and tensile properties of dissimilar metal joints are discussed in detail. The experimental results show that the Ti6Al4V was micro melted with a laser offset of 1.1 mm, and a large number of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) were formed on the side of the Ti6Al4V. Additionally, there were some porosity defects in the fusion zone (FZ) due to an inappropriate laser oscillation frequency. When the laser offset was increased to 1.2 mm, the IMC distribution was uniform and the thickness was controlled below 2 µm. The porosity defects in the FZ decreased and the tensile strength of the joints increased significantly. The maximum value of tensile strength reached 173 MPa at a laser frequency of 28 Hz.

ABSTRACT

High strength steel has attracted a lot of attention due to its excellent advantage of weight reduction. A thin Al-Si coating covered on the surface of hot-press-forming (HPF) steel offers functions of antioxidation and decarburization under high temperature processing conditions. In this study, the microstructure characteristic, phase, microhardness, and tensile strength of laser welded Al-Si coated HPF steel joints were investigated at different laser powers. Experimental results show that the welding process becomes unstable because of metallic vapor generated by ablation of the coating. Some of the white bright rippled Fe-Al phase was observed to be distributed in the fusion zone randomly. It is found that microhardness, tensile strength, and cupping test qualification rate decreases with the increase of the laser power. For the 1.1 kW laser power, the sound weld performs the best mechanical properties: Microhardness of 466.53 HV and tensile strength of 1349.9 MPa.

AIMS: Anesthesia and surgery can cause delirium-like symptoms postoperatively. Increasing evidence suggests that gut microbiota is a physiological regulator of the brain. Herein, we investigated whether gut microbiota plays a role in postoperative delirium (POD). METHODS: Mice were separated into non-POD and POD phenotypes after abdominal surgery by applying hierarchical clustering analysis to behavioral tests. Fecal samples were collected, and 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing was performed to detect differences in gut microbiota composition among sham, non-POD, and POD mice. Fecal bacteria from non-POD and POD mice were transplanted into antibiotics-induced pseudo-germ-free mice to investigate the effects on behaviors. RESULTS: α-diversity and ß-diversity indicated differences in gut microbiota composition between the non-POD and POD mice. At the phylum level, the non-POD mice had significantly higher levels of Tenericutes, which were not detected in the POD mice. At the class level, levels of Gammaproteobacteria were higher in the POD mice, whereas the non-POD mice had significantly higher levels of Mollicutes, which were not detected in the POD mice. A total of 20 gut bacteria differed significantly between the POD and non-POD mice. Interestingly, the pseudo-germ-free mice showed abnormal behaviors prior to transplant. The pseudo-germ-free mice that received fecal bacteria transplants from non-POD mice but not from POD mice showed improvements in behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: Abnormal gut microbiota composition after abdominal surgery may contribute to the development of POD. A therapeutic strategy that targets gut microbiota could provide a novel alterative for POD treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy differences among electroacupuncture with penetration needling method, Jiaji electroacupuncture and Jing fukang granule for cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR) and to explore the best therapeutic method. METHODS: One hundred and sixty patients with CSR were randomly divided into 3 groups. Sixty patients in electroacupuncture with penetration needling method group (group A) were treated by electroacupuncture with penetration needling method, and C4 Jiaji-to-C7 Jiaji, Jianwaishu (SI 14)-to-Quyuan (SI 13), Tianzong (SI 11)-to-Naoshu (SI 10), Shousanli (LI 10)-to-Xialian (LI 8) were selected, once a day. Sixty patients in Jiaji electroacupuncture group (group B) were treated by Jiaji electroacupuncture at C4 Jiaji-to-C7 Jiaji, once a day. Fourty patients in Jing fukang granule group (group C) were treated by oral administration of Jing fukang granule, 1 bag each time, twice each day. Six days as a course, the 3 groups were all treated for two courses. The simplified MPQ (SF-MPQ) scale which was internationally accepted was adopt to evaluate the improving situations in pain. RESULTS: After treatment, pain rating idex (PRI), visual analogue scale (VAS), present pain intensity (PPI) and the total pain score were significantly improved in the group A and B compared with those before treatment (all P < 0.01), which was also improved in the group C (all P < 0.05). Compared with the group C, all the scores were significantly improved in the group A (all P < 0.01), the improvement of PRI, VAS, PPI and total pain score in the group B was superior to those in the group C (all P < 0.05), and all the improvements in the group A were superior to those in the group B (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Electroacupuncture with penetration needling method can relive pain rapaidly in patients with CSR, which is superior to Jiaji electroacupuncture and Jing fukang granule in improving the comprehensive pain scores.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of glucocorticoid receptors (alpha and beta) in mononuclear cells of peripheral blood (PBMCs) in patients with glucocorticoid-induced ocular hypertension (GIOH) and the relationship between of the expression of GRalpha and GRbeta in PBMCs and its susceptibility to GIOH. METHODS: Case control study. Thirty-two patients with anaphylactic conjunctivitis were enrolled in this study. All of whom were received topical application of 0.1% dexamethasone. The patients with the elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP) over 8 mm Hg(1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa) or higher within two weeks were defined as GIOH and the others were considered as control group. There were no statistical difference in sex, average age, and baseline IOP between two groups. Each group consisted of sixteen patients. GRalpha and GRbeta mRNA (relative value) in PBMCs were detected with semi-quantitative reverse transcriptional polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), GRalpha and GRbeta protein (positive ratio) in PBMCs examined with fluorescent labelling flow cytometry. RESULTS: The GRalpha mRNA/GAPDH ratio of GIOH group was significantly (t = 3.872, P < 0.05) higher than that of control group (1.152 +/- 0.057 vs 1.048 +/- 0.031). The GRbeta mRNA/GAPDH of GIOH group was lower than that of control group's (1.055 +/- 0.034 vs 1.063 +/- 0.035), but was not statistically different (t = 0.419, P > 0.05). GRalpha positive percentage was significantly (t = 8.513, P < 0.01) higher in PBMCs of GIOH group than that of the control group (93.10 +/- 7.35)% vs (46.00 +/- 13.11)%, whereas GRbeta positive percentage was significantly (t = 4.842 P < 0.01) lower in PBMCs of GIOH group than that in control group (12.50 +/- 4.18)% vs (23.83 +/- 3.92)%. CONCLUSIONS: The higher expression of GRalpha in PBMCs in patients may have an implication of susceptibility to GIOH and warrant further investigation.

Objective To explore the effect of vascular endothelial growth factor antisense oligonucleotides(AS-VEGF)on HL60 cell and HL60/VCR multidrug resistance cell and analyze the function of P-gp and the expression of related multidrug resistance genes including Bcl-2,Mcl-1,MDR1,MRP,GST?,TopoⅡ? and TopoⅡ?.Methods A vector AS-VEGF which expressed in eukaryotic cell was established,then transfected the vector into HL60 and HL60/VCR by limposome transfection technology,observed and drew the growth curve by Tapanlan taining,RT-PCR was used to detect the expression of Bcl-2,Mcl-1,MDR1,MRP,GST?,TopoⅡ? and TopoⅡ? in mRNA level after transfected 24 h and 48 h.Western Blot was used to detect the expression of P-gp in proteinum level after transfected 24 h and 48 h.Results The growth of HL60 and HL60/VCR was inhibited by AS-VEGF(1.25 mmol/L).Between HL60 and HL60/VCR,AS-VEGF decreased the expression of MDR1,MRP,GST? and TopoⅡ? but could not influence the expression of Bcl-2,Mcl-1 and TopoⅡ?,and the expression of P-gp was also obviously decreased in 48 h compared with that in 24 h.Conclusions AS-VEGF can inhibite the growth of HL60 and HL60/VCR and reverse multidrug resistance by changing cell microenvironment and the cell membrane correlated protein transportating channel,reduce the cell disintoxicating and the self-repair ability.
