ABSTRACT

Pulmonary embolism is frequently under-recognised in children and, therefore, a high index of suspicion should be exerted on patients with exertional dyspnoea, presyncope/syncope and unexplained cardiopulmonary arrest. We discuss a 10-year-old previously healthy girl who presented with syncope and subsequent cardiac arrest related to massive pulmonary embolism and was salvaged successfully by emergent pulmonary embolectomy.

ABSTRACT

Penetrating atheromatous ulcer (PAU) is an atherosclerotic ulcer penetrating the internal elastic lamina of the aortic wall causing a hematoma within the media layer of aorta. They are commonly located in the descending aorta of the elderly and hypertensive patients. They may rarely be complicated by aortic dissection. We report a relative young normotensive patient presenting with acute aortic dissection due to PAU located in the ascending aorta.

ABSTRACT

Inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT) is a rare disorder that is benign and tumor-like reactive masses with unknown etiology. The mass usually confines to the lung but other organs involvement such as liver, stomach, lymph nodes could affect. IPT of heart is usually determined with children and young adults. Only 15 cases are detected in adults. We present here a rare case of IPT with both involvement of lung and heart.
