ABSTRACT

The quality standard of Chinese herbal medicine is the key in quality control, and the establishment of rice processing technology standard of rice fried Codonopsis Radix has important significance for the overall quality control. In this study, the color brightness (L*), red-green chromaticity coordinate (a*), yellow-blue chromaticity coordinate (b*) and total color value(E*ab)were determined by colorimeter and used as the shape indexes. Ethanol extractives, polysaccharide, lobetyolin and 5-hydroxymethyl furfural contents were determined by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultraviolet (UV), and used as chemical indexes in the analysis by normalization distance method. The two index methods were adopted to optimize the processing technology of rice fried Codonopsis Radix by taking processing temperature, processing time, rice types and rice dosage as factors. The correlation analysis between the two index methods was carried out by SAS 9.40 and JMP 11 software. The results showed that all the four factors had significant differences, and the best processing technology was as follows: polished round-grained rice as raw material, processing temperature at 140 °C, processing time of 10min, and the ratio of Codonopsis pilosula and rice is 100:30. Chemical indexes showed significant positive correlations with shape indexes, providing basis for the quality evaluation of rice fried Codonopsis Radix in processing.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the overall intestinal permeability of multiple components in lotus leaves and make clear the interaction in composition absorption process. Rat single-pass intestinal perfusion technique was used, and the results showed that the Peff values of nuciferine, demethylanuciferine, rutin, quercetin, kaempferol from lotus leaf were greater than 0.5×10⁻4 cm•s⁻¹. In the biopharmaceutics classification system (BCS) intestinal permeability property, these ingredients were high permeable components, while the hyperin was low permeable component. However, in the multi-component environment of the lotus leaf extract, component permeation was changed. Semi quantitative analysis of the unclear components showed that under the multi-component environment, four in seven components with relatively high contents had a Peff value less than 0.5×10⁻4 cm•s⁻¹, indicating these 4 components were of low permeability, while other 3 components were of high permeability. The results could be valuable to make clear the overall intestinal permeability of multiple components in lotus leaf, and lay a foundation for studying the mechanism of the lipid-lowering effect of lotus leaf.

ABSTRACT

One of the top-level researches of biopharmaceutics classification system of Chinese materia medica (CMMBCS) is the study on single component in compound Chinese medicine. The medicines shall be classified according to its solubility and intestinal permeability, as well as the ascending degree in multicomponent environment. Based on above, we chose berberine as the main object to explore the change rules of its solubility and intestinal permeability in Gegen Qinlian decoction. Shaking flask-HPLC was used to detect the solubility changes of berberine in compounds. The qualitative investigation of berberine in intestinal absorption was measured by everted gut sac, and the quantitative research of berberine in intestinal absorption was measured by single-pass intestinal perfusion experiment, while the qualitative and quantitative research of berberine absorption into blood was measured by in intestinal perfusion with venous sampling experiment.

ABSTRACT

The concept of "Quality by design" indicates that good design for the whole life cycle of pharmaceutical production enables the drug to meet the expected quality requirements. Aiming at the existing problems of the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) industry, the TCM standardization system was put forward in this paper from the national strategic level, under the guidance by the idea of quality control in international manufacturing industry and with considerations of TCM industry's own characteristics and development status. The connotation of this strategy was to establish five interrelated systems: multi-indicators system based on tri-indicators system, quality standard and specification system of TCM herbal materials and decoction pieces, quality traceability system, data monitoring system based on whole-process quality control, and whole-process quality management system of TCM, and achieve the whole process systematic and scientific study in TCM industry through "top-level design-implement in steps-system integration" workflow. This article analyzed the correlation between the quality standards of all links, established standard operating procedures of each link and whole process, and constructed a high standard overall quality management system for TCM industry chains, in order to provide a demonstration for the establishment of TCM whole-process quality control system and provide systematic reference and basis for standardization strategy in TCM industry.

ABSTRACT

The study of single component in the multicomponent environment is one of the basic researches for biopharmaceutics classification system of Chinese materia medica (CMMBCS). That is to say, the classification research shall be based on the respective lift of solubility and permeability in the multicomponent environment, besides solubility and intestinal permeability of the single component. We chose berberine as the main research object to investigate the changes of its solubility and intestinal permeability in Huanglian decoction. Shake-flask and HPLC were used to detect the solubility of berberine in different pH buffer solutions and different concentrations of Huanglian decoction. In situ single-pass intestinal perfusion (SPIP) and intestinal perfusion with venous sampling (IPVS) were carried out to study berberine's intestinal absorption and absorption into blood, respectively.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Early life exposure to the famine may affect the susceptibility to the metabolic disorders. The objective of this study was to examine the associations of early life exposure to the Chinese Famine (1959-1961) with the risk of fatty liver disease, obesity, hypertension, and hyperglycemia in adulthood. METHODS: We used the data of 10,935 adults born between 1956 and 1965 in Chongqing from check-up center at the 1st Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University in 2011. Logistic regression models were used to explore the effects of famine on the risk of fatty liver disease, obesity, hypertension, and hyperglycemia. RESULTS: In Chongqing, prevalences of fatty liver disease among adults in non-exposed (1956-1958 plus 1963-1965) group and born in 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1962 were 34.01%, 36.42%, 34.63%, 40.27%, and 36.09%, respectively. Prevalences of fatty liver disease, obesity, hypertension, and hyperglycemia were significantly higher in males versus females. The risk of fatty liver disease was about 1.375-fold (1.303 (95% confidence interval, 1.066-1.594) for male, 1.547(95% confidence interval, 1.195-2.002) for female) higher in subjects born in 1961, and 1.142-fold (1.117 (95% confidence interval, 0.957-1.305) for male, 1.242 (95% confidence interval, 1.003-1.537) for female) higher in subjects born in 1962 after adjustment of age and sex, compared with non-exposed subjects. Early life exposure to the Chinese famine was also associated with the increased risk of obesity and hyperglycemia. CONCLUSIONS: Exposure to the Chinese famine during fetal life and infancy was associated with an increased risk of fatty liver disease in adulthood.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) has become commonly used both as a concept and as a field of research. However, little is known about the HRQOL of men who have sex with men and women (MSMW). The aim of this study was to examine HIV-related behaviors, social support, and HRQOL status and explore its predictors among MSMW. METHODS: An anonymous cross-sectional study was conducted by snowball sampling method in 2013. A total of 563 Chinese MSM completed a structured questionnaire. The HRQOL and social support were measured with the Chinese version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-BRFE) and the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), respectively. RESULTS: Of the 563 MSM analyzed, 77 (13.68%) were MSMW who had a higher proportion of in-marriage and preference for an insertive role as compared with the men who have sex with men only (MSMO) (P<0.05). As high as 70.13% of MSMW had no regular sex partners and 72.73% of MSMW reported engaging in unprotected anal sex in the last six months. 36.36% had tested for HIV, while only 12.99% had accepted HIV voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) services. The scores of objective support and subjective support in MSMW were significantly higher than that of MSMO (P<0.05). No statistically significant difference was found in scores of all the four domains of the HRQOL between MSMW and MSMO. When comparing the HRQOL scores of MSMW with the Chinese general population reference group, the scores of MSMW were significantly lower in physical health domain. In a multivariate regression model, age, monthly income, sexual role, VCT acceptability, subjective support were associated with variability in HRQOL. CONCLUSIONS: To improve the HRQOL among MSMW, more attention needs to be paid to those with low social support, low-income, the old and those prefer a receptive role during anal sex populations.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the status of quality of life(QOL) on men who have sex with men (MSM) and it's relationship with social support among university students in Chongqing. METHODS: Snowball sampling was applied to recruit the subjects on MSM for this study and multistage stratified cluster sampling method was used to recruit ordinary male college students. WHOQOL-BREF and SSRS questionnaires were used to collect information from both MSM and ordinary male college students. RESULTS: Scores from the physiological, psychological, social relations and environmental domains for QOL and total QOL were 13.82 ± 2.25, 13.14 ± 2.51, 13.24 ± 2.96, 12.44 ± 2.49 and 13.12 ± 2.16, respectively. Scores for all domains of QOL on MSM were lower than figures from ordinary male college students (P < 0.05). Results from Canonical correlation analysis revealed that subjective support and the use of support, together with psychological and social relations were the main factors that influencing the social support and quality of life in this population, respectively. CONCLUSION: The improvement of subjective feelings and proper use of social support and targeted interventions among this MSM population should accord to the different demographic characteristics, especially for those who did not have regular sexual partner or in gay circles, and for those who practice passive role during sexual act(as "0"), seemed to be helpful to improve their quality of life.
