ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA)/ gel porous scaffolds loaded with WSM carriers are promising bone replacement materials that can improve osseointegration ability. This investigation aimed to evaluate the osteoinductive activity by implanting the composition of nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA)/ Gel porous scaffolds as a carrier of WSM via an animal model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: WSM was extracted and nHA was added to the matrix to construct porous composite scaffolds. The dose-effect curve of WSM concentration and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was made by culturing rat osteoblasts and examining the absorbance. Three different materials were implanted into critical size defects (CSD) in the skulls of rats, which were further divided into four groups: WSM nHA /Gel group, n-WSM nHA /Gel group, HA powder group, and control group. RESULTS: WSM (150 µg/mL-250µg/mL) effectively improved the activity of ALP in rat osteoblasts. All rats in each group had normal healing. WSM-loaded nHA /Gel group showed better performance on newly-formed bone tissue of rat skull and back at 4th week and 8th week, respectively. At the 4th week, the network of woven bone formed in the WSM-loaded nHA/Gel scaffold material. At 8th week, the reticular trabecular bone in the WSM-loaded scaffold material became dense lamellar bone, and the defect was mature lamellar bone. In the subcutaneous implantation experiment, WSM-loaded nHA/Gel scaffold material showed a better performance of heterotopic ossification than the pure nHA/Gel scaffold material. CONCLUSION: WSM promotes osteoblast differentiation and bone mineralization. The results confirm that the nHA/ Gel Porous Scaffold with Nacre Water-Soluble Matrix has a significant bone promoting effect and can be used as a choice for tissue engineering to repair bone defects.

ABSTRACT

To explore the antiinflammatory mechanism of agarwood on recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). RAS is the most common mucosal disease in the oral cavity. The clinical application of traditional Chinese medicine found that agarwood has significant curative effect on peptic ulcer, but the effect and mechanism of agarwood on RAS remain unclear. This study is intended to predict the potential antiinflammatory mechanisms by which agarwood acts on RAS through network pharmacology and molecular docking. TCMSP database was used to screen the active components of agarwood. RAS targets were screened in Genecards, DisGeNET, and OMIM database. Venny, an online tool, screens for interacting genes between the two. Cytoscape software was used to construct the gene regulation map of active compounds target of agarwood. String Database building protein-protein interaction network. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways were enriched in DAVID database. The key active ingredients and core targets were further verified by molecular docking. There were 9 effective compounds and 186 target genes in agarwood; RAS has 793 target genes. There were 41 interacting genes between agarwood and RAS. Interleukin 6, tumor necrosis factor, interleukin 1 beta, and cellular component motif ligand 2 may be key targets. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses predicted multiple pathways associated with RAS. Molecular docking results showed that the active compounds of agarwood combined well and stably with the target. The Chinese herbal medicine agarwood can relieve the inflammation of RAS through multiple targets and various ways. Its active compounds may be nominated as candidates for antiinflammatory drugs of RAS.

ABSTRACT

It has been commonly believed that the ordered thermoplastic elastomers formed by the ABC triblock copolymer should have better mechanical performance than that by the ABA counterpart due to the higher bridging fraction. However, the thermoplastic elastomer of ABA was often observed to perform better than that of ABC. To compare the performance of two kinds of thermoplastic elastomers and unveil the underlying microscopic mechanism, we have calculated their stress-strain curves using coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations in conjunction with self-consistent field theory. It is revealed that the stretching degree of the bridging blocks and the network connectivity play important roles in determining the mechanical properties in addition to the bridging fraction. The higher degree in the stretching of bridging blocks and network connectivity of the structure formed by the ABA triblock copolymer enables its superior mechanical performance over the ABC block copolymer.

ABSTRACT

To analyze the mechanism of Astragalus membranaceus (AM) in molecular level in the oral ulcer (OU) treatment with reference to network pharmacology. Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform database was used in screening the AM active components and AM action targets; GeneCards database was used to screen OU targets; the common target were screened by Venny online tool; Cytoscape software was applied to construct the target gene regulation map of AM active components; STRING database was used to construct the protein-protein interaction network and the key targets were screened as per degree value; gene ontology enrichment and KEGG pathway enrichment of interactive genes were calculated through David database. There were 17 active ingredients and 429 target spots in Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform database. There are 606 target genes for OU in GeneCards database. There are 67 common targets, including 10 key targets: IL10, IL6, TNF, IL1B, CXCL8, CCL2, TLR4, IL4, ICAM1, and IFNG. It involves 30 gene ontology terms and 20 KEGG signal channels. The molecular docking results showed that quercetin and kaempferol had a good binding activity with IL6, IL1B, TNF, and CCL2. Network pharmacological analysis shows that AM can regulate multiple signal pathways through multiple targets to treat OU.

ABSTRACT

This paper presents a multiple headspace extraction (MHE) analysis technique to determine the water vapor transmission rate of cellulose-based papers. The water vapor passing through the sample in a closed headspace vial is determined by MHE-gas chromatography. The results show that the employed method offers good precision (the relative standard deviation < 3.49 %) and good accuracy. The method is rapid and accurate, and is promising for the determination of the water vapor transmission rate of cellulose-based papers in future studies.

ABSTRACT

A reduced graphene oxide (RGO) supported Fe3O4-MnO2 nanocomposite (Fe3O4-MnO2@RGO) was successfully prepared for catalytic degradation of oxytetracycline (20 mg/L) by potassium persulfate (PS) and adsorption removal of mixture of Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+ ions (each 0.2 mM) in the synchronous scenario. The removal efficiencies of oxytetracycline, Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+ ions were observed as high as 100%, 99.9%, 99.8%, and 99.8%, respectively, under the conditions of [PS]0 = 4 mM, pH0 = 7.0, Fe3O4-MnO2@RGO dosage = 0.8 g/L, reaction time = 90 min. The ternary composite exhibited higher oxytetracycline degradation/mineralization efficiency, greater metal adsorption capacity (Cd2+ 104.1 mg/g, Pb2+ 206.8 mg/g, Cu2+ 70.2 mg/g), and better PS utilization (62.6%) than its unary and binary counterparts including RGO, Fe3O4, Fe3O4@RGO, and Fe3O4-MnO2. More importantly, the ternary composite had good magnetic recoverability and excellent reusability. Notably, Fe, Mn, and RGO could play a synergistic role in the improvement of pollutant removal. Quenching results indicate that surface bounded SO4•- was the major contributor to oxytetracycline decomposition, and the -OH groups on the composite surface shouldered a significant role in PS activation. The results indicate that the magnetic Fe3O4-MnO2@RGO nanocomposite has a good potential for removing organic-metal co-contaminants in waterbody.

ABSTRACT

Antimicrobial peptides are small, cationic, and amphiphilic peptides found in most organisms, and many of these peptides have broad antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative, -positive bacteria and fungi. In the present study, a derivative of antimicrobial peptide Tatritin, 6His-Tatritin, was designed and expressed by Pichia pastoris using a constitutive vector pGAPZαA with the promoter of pGAP. The 6His-Tatritin had a broad-spectrum antibacterial activity based on the Oxford cup method and the micro broth dilution test. In addition, to explore the role of 6His-Tatritin in vivo, grass carps (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) were infected with Aeromonas hydrophila after they were fed with 6His-Tatritin as feed additives for 28 days. The results revealed that 6His-Tatritin could significantly up-regulate the expression levels of Hepcidin, Leap-2b, Nrf-2, CuZn-SOD and LZM (P < 0.05). In addition, 6His-Tatritin could significantly reduce the mortality (P < 0.05) and the intestinal injury of grass carps infected with bacteria. The 16S sequencing analysis showed that the structure of microbial community in intestine of fish was more diversified compared with control after treatment with 6His-Tatritin. In summary, the peptide of 6His-Tatritin could promote antimicrobial defense via regulating immune ability and intestinal microbial community in grass carp. This study provides an effective method and approach for the application of antimicrobial peptide Tatritin in aquaculture, and also provides insights into the function of antimicrobial peptides in immunity against pathogens in fish.

ABSTRACT

The intersecting cortical model (ICM), initially designed for image processing, is a special case of the biologically inspired pulse-coupled neural-network (PCNN) models. Although the ICM has been widely used, few studies concern the internal activities and firing conditions of the neuron, which may lead to an invalid model in the application. Furthermore, the lack of theoretical analysis has led to inappropriate parameter settings and consequent limitations on ICM applications. To address this deficiency, we first study the continuous firing condition of ICM neurons to determine the restrictions that exist between network parameters and the input signal. Second, we investigate the neuron pulse period to understand the neural firing mechanism. Third, we derive the relationship between the continuous firing condition and the neural pulse period, and the relationship can prove the validity of the continuous firing condition and the neural pulse period as well. A solid understanding of the neural firing mechanism is helpful in setting appropriate parameters and in providing a theoretical basis for widespread applications to use the ICM model effectively. Extensive experiments of numerical tests with a common image reveal the rationality of our theoretical results.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Contradictory roles of the androgen receptor (AR) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) metastasis have been reported. We have shown that VETC (vessels encapsulating tumor clusters) mediates invasion-independent metastasis, whereas VETC- HCCs metastasize in an invasion-dependent manner. Herein, we aimed to reveal the roles of AR in HCC metastasis. METHODS: Mouse xenograft models, clinical samples, and cell models were used. RESULTS: AR expression was significantly lower in HCCs with a VETC pattern, portal vein tumor thrombus, endothelium-coated microemboli or high recurrence rates. Overexpressing AR in VETC+ hepatoma cells suppressed VETC formation and intrahepatic metastasis but promoted pulmonary metastasis of mouse xenografts. AR decreased the transcription of Angiopoietin-2 (Angpt2), a factor essential for VETC formation, by binding to the Angpt2 promoter. The roles of AR in inhibiting VETC formation and intrahepatic metastasis were attenuated by restoring Angpt2 expression, suggesting that AR may repress VETC-dependent intrahepatic metastasis by inhibiting Angpt2 expression and VETC formation. On the other hand, AR upregulated Rac1 expression, promoted lamellipodia formation and increased cell migration/invasion. A Rac1 inhibitor abrogated the AR-mediated promotion of migration/invasion and pulmonary metastasis of VETC+ hepatoma cells, but did not affect the AR-mediated inhibition of intrahepatic metastasis. Furthermore, an AR inhibitor decreased Rac1 expression and attenuated both intrahepatic and pulmonary metastasis of VETC- xenografts, an effect which was abrogated by restoring Rac1 expression. These data indicate that AR may facilitate the lung metastasis of VETC+ HCCs and both the liver/lung metastases of VETC- HCCs by upregulating Rac1 expression and then promoting migration/invasion. CONCLUSION: AR plays dual and opposing roles in VETC-dependent and invasion-dependent metastasis, which highlights the complex functions of AR and the importance of individualized cancer therapy. LAY SUMMARY: In this study, we uncovered the dual and opposing roles of the androgen receptor in VETC (vessels encapsulating tumor clusters)-dependent and invasion-dependent metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We elucidated the underlying mechanisms of these processes, which provided novel insights into the complex regulatory network of the androgen receptor in HCC metastasis and may have important implications for precision medicine.

ABSTRACT

Antimony tin oxide (ATO)/lead selenide (PbSe) composite was rationally designed and fabricated on fluorine doped tin oxide glass (FTO) for using as counter electrode (CE) of quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs). The electrocatalytic activity of the CE is deeply investigated in the polysulfide electrolyte by employing the Tafel, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) of the symmetrical cells. The results confirm that the ATO/PbSe CE has better electrocatalytic activity and stability than that of PbSe CE obtained by pulse voltage electrodeposition (PVD). The enhanced electrocatalytic performance of ATO/PbSe CE can be attributed to its high specific surface area, excellent permeability, conductivity and interface connectivity, which provide more electrocatalytic active sites for the reduction of polysulfide species, as well as fast channels for ions diffusion and electron transport. As a result, the CdS QDSSCs and CdS/CdSe co-sensitized QDSSCs assembled by the ATO/PbSe CE exhibits better power conversion efficiency (η) of 1.72% and 5.59%, respectively than that of PbSe CE obtained by PVD. Furthermore, photovoltaic property of the ATO/PbSe CE in CdS/CdSe co-sensitized QDSSCs keeps stable for over 200 min. This present work provides a simple and effective strategy for the construction of high-performance CE materials of QDSSCs.

ABSTRACT

High-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) is one of the most popular methods for studying the three-dimensional organization of genomes. However, Hi-C protocols can be expensive since they require large amounts of sample material and may be time-consuming. Most commonly used Hi-C data are low-resolution. Such data can only be used to identify large-scale genomic interactions and are not sufficient to identify the small-scale patterns. We propose a novel deep learning-based computational approach (named ReHiC) that enhances the resolution of Hi-C data and allows us to achieve high-resolution Hi-C data at a relatively low cost. Our model only requires 1/16 down-sampling ratio of the original sequence reading to predict higher resolution Hi-C data. This is very close to high-resolution data in terms of numerical distribution and interaction distribution. More importantly, our framework stacks deeper and converges faster due to residual blocks in the core of the network. Extensive experiments show that ReHiC performs better than HiCPlus and HiCNN, two recently developed and frequently used methods to look at the spatial organization of chromatin structure in the cell. Moreover, the portability of our framework verified by extensive experiments shows that the trained model can also enhance the Hi-C matrix of other cell types efficiently. In conclusion, ReHiC offers more accurate high-resolution image reconstruction in a broad field.

ABSTRACT

Liver cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Of all types of liver cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is known to be the most frequent primary liver malignancy and has seriously compromised the health status of the general population. Locoregional thermal ablation techniques such as radiofrequency and microwave ablation, have attracted attention in clinical practice as an alternative strategy for HCC treatment. However, their aggressive thermal effect may cause undesirable complications such as hepatic decompensation, hemorrhage, bile duct injury, extrahepatic organ injuries, and skin burn. In recent years, photodynamic therapy (PDT), a gentle locoregional treatment, has attracted attention in ablation therapy for patients with superficial or luminal tumors as an alternative treatment strategy. However, some inherent defects and extrinsic factors of PDT have limited its use in clinical practice for deep-seated HCC. In this contribution, the aim is to summarize the current status and challenges of PDT in HCC treatment and provide potential strategies to overcome these deficiencies in further clinical translational practice.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) in breast cancer patients, analyze absolute concentration and structural changes of metabolites in different brain regions by multimodal neuroimaging technology, and explore correlation between them. Breast cancer patients with chemotherapy treatment group (Ctx+, N = 24) and control group without treatment (Ctx-, N = 20) underwent neuropsychological tests, multivoxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) before and after chemotherapy. Regions of interest (ROls) in magnetic resonance scan include bilateral posterior cingulate gyrus (PCG), bilateral dorsal thalamus (DT), bilateral lenticular nucleus (LN), bilateral posterior horn of the lateral ventricle paratrigonal white matter (PWM). In MRS, absolute concentrations of N-acetylaspartate (NAA), myo-inositol (MI), choline-containing compounds (Cho), total creatine (tCr), glutamine + glutamate (Glx) were quantified using LC Model and SAGE software. In DTI, we used fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) to reflect white matter integrity. In Ctx+ patients, scores of functional assessment of cancer treatment cognition test (FACT-Cog), perceived cognitive impairments (PCI), impact of perceived impairments on quality of life (QOL), perceived cognitive abilities (PCA), auditory-verbal learning test (AVLT) recognition and clock drawing test (CDT) were lower than those before chemotherapy (p < 0.05). In MRS, Ctx+ patients had significantly lower NAA values in bilateral PCG, DT, respectively. The concentrations of tCr were observed to decline in bilateral PCG and right DT. Glx values decreased in right DT. Cho values decreased significantly in bilateral DT. In DTI, Ctx+ patients had lower FA values in bilateral PCG compared with patients before chemotherapy. Among imaging metrics and cognitive scores, positive correlations were observed between changes in AVLT recognition scores and changes in NAA values in bilateral PCG (left PCG: r = 0.470, p < 0.01; right PCG: r = 0.500, p < 0.01). Positive correlations were also found between changes in AVLT recognition and changes in FA values in bilateral PCG (left PCG: r = 0.513, p < 0.01; right PCG: r = 0.563, p < 0.01). Chemotherapy can lead to a decrease in memory function, accompanied by changes in brain metabolite concentration and white matter integrity in some parts of brain.

ABSTRACT

Eight new flavonoids daemoflavans A-H, including two dimeric proanthocyanidins (1 and 2), four flavans (3-6), two 2-arylbenzofurans (7 and 8), along with nine known compounds (9-17), were isolated from the fruit of Daemonorops draco. Their structures, including the absolute configurations, were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic data, ECD analysis, and X-ray crystal diffraction. Besides, the X-ray crystal data of a known compound dracoflavan B1 (9) was firstly reported. Daemoflavan G (7) represents a rare example of C-5 methylated 2-arylbenzofuran in natural products. Among the known compounds, 15, 16, 17 were reported from this species for the first time. All the compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against HepG2 cell line. Among them, compounds 1, 9 and 10 exhibited modest cytotoxic activity with IC50 values of 12.4, 12.0 and 13.2 µM, respectively.

ABSTRACT

Sorafenib is the most recommended first-line systemic therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Yet there is no clinically applied biomarker for predicting sorafenib response. We have demonstrated that a vascular pattern, named VETC (Vessels that Encapsulate Tumor Clusters), facilitates the release of whole tumor clusters into the bloodstream; VETC-mediated metastasis relies on vascular pattern, but not on migration and invasion of cancer cells. In this study, we aimed to explore whether vascular pattern could predict sorafenib benefit. Two cohorts of patients were recruited from four academic hospitals. The survival benefit of sorafenib treatment for patients with or without the VETC pattern (VETC+ /VETC- ) was investigated. Kaplan-Meier analyses revealed that sorafenib treatment significantly reduced death risk and prolonged overall survival (OS; in cohort 1/2, P = 0.004/0.005; hazard ratio [HR] = 0.567/0.408) and postrecurrence survival (PRS; in cohort 1/2, P = 0.001/0.002; HR = 0.506/0.384) in VETC+ patients. However, sorafenib therapy was not beneficial for VETC- patients (OS in cohort 1/2, P = 0.204/0.549; HR = 0.761/1.221; PRS in cohort 1/2, P = 0.121/0.644; HR = 0.728/1.161). Univariate and multivariate analyses confirmed that sorafenib treatment significantly improved OS/PRS in VETC+ , but not VETC- , patients. Further mechanistic investigations showed that VETC+ and VETC- HCCs displayed similar levels of light chain 3 (LC3) and phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in tumor tissues (pERK) or endothelial cells (EC-pERK), and greater sorafenib benefit was consistently observed in VETC+ HCC patients than VETC- irrespective of levels of pERK/EC-pERK/LC3, suggesting that the different sorafenib benefit between VETC+ and VETC- HCCs may not result from activation of Raf/mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK)/ERK and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)A/VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR2)/ERK signaling or induction of autophagy. Conclusion: Sorafenib is effective in prolonging the survival of VETC+ , but not VETC- , patients. VETC pattern may act as a predictor of sorafenib benefit for HCC.

ABSTRACT

We aim to investigate the relation between depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and inflammatory factors in patients with severe burn injury. Psychological assessment was carried out using PTSD checklist (PCL) involving a 17-item self-report questionnaire (PCL-17) and the Hamilton Rating Scale for depression (HAMD-24). The serum IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Correlation analysis was performed to analyze the correlation between the factors and scores of PTSD and depression. Compared with the PCL-17 score, HAMD-24 score, and inflammatory factors at month 3, a significant decrease was noticed in the PCL-17 score, HAMD-24 score, and inflammatory factors at months 6 and 9 (P < 0.01). For the HAMD-24 score, significant improvements were noticed in the anxiety/somatization, cognitive disorder, blocking, sleep disorders, and depression at months 3, 6, and 9. The levels of IL-1ß, IL-8, and TNF-α were positively correlated with the PCL-17 score (P < 0.05). The levels of IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α were positively correlated with the HAMD-24 score (P < 0.05). Patients with severe burn injury showed obvious stress alternation displaying specific depression-related characteristics, and inflammation may involve in the pathogenesis of PTSD and depression in burn patients.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the deposition of amyloid-ß (Aß) in brain parenchyma and cerebral blood vessels as cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). Clusterin, a chaperon protein associated with Aß aggregation, toxicity and transport through blood-brain barrier, may play a key role in the development of AD. Recently, clusterin peptide D-[113-122] was shown to mimic clusterin's function and exerted therapeutic effect in atherosclerosis. In this study, we investigated whether this clusterin peptide also affected (Aß) deposition in AD transgenic mouse. RESULTS: Using a micropump, synthetic peptide 113-122 of clusterin protein (20 µg/200 µl) was infused into the lateral ventricle of 8-month 5 × FAD transgenic mouse model (Tg6799), for 2 weeks. Water-maze testing showed an improved cognitive function of the Tg6799 mice treated with clusterin. Immunocytochemistry and quantitative analysis revealed that intraventricular (icv) administration of clusterin peptide in Tg6799 mouse reduced Aß plaques as well the severity of cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay demonstrated a decreased in the soluble levels of Aß (Aß40 and Aß42) in the brain. Western-blot revealed an increased level of LRP-2 after clusterin peptide treatment. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that icv infusion of clusterin peptide D-[113-122] offers a promising therapeutic approach to reduce Aß deposition as well as CAA. The LRP2-mediated clearance system might be involved in the mechanism of these effects.

ABSTRACT

Liquiritigenin (Liq), the main active ingredient of traditional Chinese medicine licorice, possesses anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. The current investigation was designed to explore whether liquiritigenin could relieve lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced depression-like behavior in mice and the underlying mechanism. Liquiritigenin (7.5mg/kg, 15mg/kg) and fluoxetine (20mg/kg) were pretreated intragastrically once daily for 7 consecutive days. LPS (0.5mg/kg) was injected subcutaneously to establish the depression model 30min after pretreatment on day 7. Interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α levels in serum and hippocampus were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Behavioral assessment was conduct 24h post LPS injection. The expressions of p65NF-κB, IκBα, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and tropomyosin-related kinase B (TrkB) in hippocampus were determined by western blot. The obtained results showed that liquiritigenin effectively reduced the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the expressions of p-p65NF-κB and p-IκBα. Furthermore, liquiritigenin preconditioning could down-regulate the immobility time in tail suspension test (TST), forced swimming test (FST) and up-regulate BDNF and TrkB contents in hippocampus. Thus, it is assumed that the antidepressant activity of liquiritigenin might be attributed to its anti-inflammatory property and BDNF/TrkB signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Organic-inorganic hybrid microporous crystalline molecular sieves, extending the application of conventional zeolites in the fields of selective catalysis and adsorption, have aroused great interest in chemists. However, the complicated and difficult synthesis of organic-inorganic hybrid microporous molecular sieves by using a conventional hydrothermal method has hindered the rapid development of this field. The present work describes the recent progress in the synthesis of a hairy particle zeolite-like organic-inorganic hybrid with the high organic group content by one-step dry-gel conversion (DGC) assembly of organic Si, inorganic Si and other inorganic species without any organic template, which is proven to be efficient, economical, simple, and controllable. Thus-synthesized hybrid materials, as we know, with the highest organic group content reported in the literature, can be bestowed with modifiable catalytic activities by different treatments. This study will be applicable for the development of organic-inorganic hybrid catalytic materials.
