ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of scrotal epidermal cyst with special reference to the differential diagnosis between cystic and tumoral lesions. METHODS/RESULTS: The clinical history of a patient with an epidermal cyst localized to the scrotum is presented and the literature is briefly reviewed. Scrotal epidermal cysts and pilonidal cysts are distinct. Their etiology (embryonic vs acquired) is discussed from an academic perspective. CONCLUSIONS: Pilonidal and epidermal cysts are benign lesions. Excisional biopsy using local anesthesia will generally suffice for the classification and treatment of these lesions.
