ABSTRACT

Tarlov's cyst or perineurial cyst is disease on portion of the posterior nerve root in lumbo-sacral region. The lack of knowledge of physicians around the world about Tarlov's cyst as to their nature, significance and treatment also with differential diagnostics to radiculopathy in legs. With review of literature discuss about definition, etiopathogenesis, diagnostic investigation and treatment clinic and/or surgery. The pathogenesis Tarlov's cyst remains unclear; several cases have history of the trauma, old hemorrhage, congenital and iatrogenic. Cysts provoke low back pain, sacral radiculopathy, dyspareunia, urinary incontence. The magnetic resonance imaging is now the gold standard to diagnose cysts. The treatment is clinic or surgery depending neurologics finding and neuroimage.

ABSTRACT

Foram analisados 100 casos consecutivos de pacientes com lesão traumática da medula espinhal atendidos no Hospital Estadual Mário Covas – Santo André, no período de setembro de 2003 a novembro de 2006. A lesão do segmento cervical da medula foi observada em 50% dos casos. Jovens do sexo masculino foram os mais atingidos. O principal fator etiológico assinalado correspondeu a quedas de várias naturezas, sendo 25% por quedas de laje. Esta condição é de citação pouco freqüente na literatura científica de traumas e representa importante informação para orientação preventiva na região estudada.


One hundred patients with spinal cord injury were evaluated at Hospital Estadual Mário Covas – Santo André, between September 2003 and November 2006. Cervical lesion was observed in 50% of the cases. Young males were most frequently affected. The main etiological factor was falling associated to various circumstances, being 25% falls from cement slab. This condition is seldom mentioned in scientific literature and represents decisive information for preventive orientation to the population in the studied region.
