ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Entering old age is associated with various physical and psychological disabilities. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction program on emotion regulation and sleep problems in depressed elderly. METHODS: This study was a clinical trial conducted on 60 elderly individuals with depression using purposive sampling. These elderly were referred by geriatricians and were included in the study based on the inclusion criteria. The participants were randomly assigned to two groups: the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) group and the control group. Both groups completed the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), the Gratz and Roemer Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index before and after the intervention. The MBSR sessions were held for the experimental group in 8 sessions of 90 min each, once a week. Finally, all the data were analyzed using SPSS software version 26 through descriptive and analytical statistics such as mean and standard deviation, t-tests and mixed analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) with repeated measures. RESULTS: The results showed that the MBSR intervention led to a significant reduction in depression symptoms (p < 0.001) and improvement in emotion regulation and sleep quality (p < 0.001) among the elderly participants with depression in the intervention group. DISCUSSION: The results of this study showed that MBSR can be effective in reducing depression levels, improving emotion regulation, and sleep quality among depressed elderly individuals compared to the control group. Caregivers and psychotherapists of nursing homes can use care programs such as MBSR program to improve the physical and mental condition of the elderly. BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are known as one of the main problems affecting the health of industrial workers and can lead to lost working days, functional disability of workers and wasting the financial resources of an organization. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluating the effect of ergonomic interventions on reducing MSDs and improving working posture in the in a foundry industry workers. METHODS: A field multicomponent cross-interventional study was conducted on workers working in a foundry industry. In this study, 117 male workers were divided into 4 groups, including a control group, a group with specialized ergonomics training, a group with workstation intervention, and a group simultaneously undergoing training and workstation intervention. All 4 groups were evaluated during a period of baseline, 6 and 12-months follow- up. The Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire (CMDQ) and direct observations of working postures by using the Quick Exposure Check (QEC) method were used. RESULTS: The results showed that the implemented interventions in the shoulder/arm, back and stress level were effective and the difference in the final score was significant among different groups (P-value > 0.05). In addition, the interventions led to a significant decrease in the QEC scores and musculoskeletal symptom scores in the neck, shoulder, lower back, knee, and lower leg regions among different groups (P-value > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The results showed that workstation modification and training and workstation intervention simultaneously had a greater effect on MSDs and improving working posture compared to training alone.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to scrutinize the E-learning readiness among the students of the Faculty of Health at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study was conducted as a descriptive-analytic study on 165 the students of the Faculty of Health in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2021. To examine the level of the participants' readiness for E-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic period, the questionnaire developed by Watkins et al, was administered. Finally, the data analysis was performed with SPSS24 software. The results showed that the mean and standard deviation were 97.44 and 17.67, respectively. Only 1.2% of the participants had a low level of E-learning readiness. 27.9% were at the intermediate level and 70.9% were at the high level. Moreover, the results revealed that the participants had the highest degree of readiness in "Technology Access" and "Internet discussions" dimensions (0.79) and the lowest degree of readiness in "motivation" dimension (0.67). The results of this study indicated that the majority of the participants in this study had a high E-learning readiness, so the university can implement the virtual education. However, the students' learning motivation should be enhanced through providing the required infrastructure and holding training courses for the students specially the BA ones.
