ABSTRACT
The chemotherapy of schistosomiasis remains centered in the use of praziquantel, however, there has been growing resistant parasites to this drug. Thus, the aim of this work was to evaluate inâ vitro schistosomicidal activity of the hexanes/dichloromethane 1 : 1 extract of Brazilian green propolis (Pex), as well as its major isolated compounds artepillin C, caffeic acid, coumaric acid and drupanin against Schistosoma mansoni. The Pex was active by displaying an IC50 value of 36.60 (26.26-51.13)â µg mL-1 at 72 h against adult worms of S. mansoni. The major isolated compounds were inactive with IC50 values >100â µM, however, the combination of the isolated compounds (CM) in the same range found in the extract was active with an IC50 value of 41.17 (39.89-42.46)â µg mL-1 at 72 h. Pex and CM induced alteration in the tegument of S. mansoni, and caffeic acid caused alteration in egg's maturation. Pex displayed inâ vitro activity against adult worms' and eggs' viability of S. mansoni, which opens new perspectives to better understand the synergistic and/or additive effects promoted by both Pex extract and CM against schistosomiasis features.

A aids é uma doença de dimensões alarmantes, transmitida principalmente pela via sexual, que traz à tona questões complexas e desafiadoras como o comportamento sexual e de prevenção às doenças sexualmente transmissíveis, crenças e mitos relacionados à enfermidade, morte, preconceito, papéis e infidelidade. Pesquisas recentes apontam para significativo aumento de pessoas infectadas pelo HIV/AIDS com mais de 50 anos de idade e em relacionamento estável, denunciando baixos índices do uso de preservativo por essa população. Considerando a família como a base da constituição do sujeito e de seus padrões relacionais, construídos ao longo do ciclo de vida familiar e essenciais na forma como o indivíduo lida e enfrenta as vivências ao longo da vida, o presente estudo teve como objetivo conhecer e analisar aspectos do relacionamento conjugal e familiar de um casal heterossexual infectado pelo vírus HIV, bem como o impacto e as mudanças causadas pela doença no sistema conjugal e familiar. Aids is a disease with alarming dimensions, mainly transmitted through sexual intercourse, raising complex and challenging questions, such as sexual behavior, STD (sexually transmitted disease) prevention, beliefs and myths related to illnesses, death, prejudice, roles and infidelity. Recent researches show a significant increase of individuals infected by HIV/AIDS among those over 50, and those in a stable relationship, therefore unraveling low rates of preservative use among themselves. Considering the family as the base of an individual character and his/her standard relations, built up throughout a life cycle, and essential in the way an individual deals and face his/her daily life, the presented research aimed to focus on knowing deeper aspects of a conjugal and familiar relationship from a heterosexual couple who were infected by the HIV virus, as well as the impact and changes caused by the disease within the conjugal and family system.
