ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To compare rates of change in peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer (pRNFL) and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (mGCIPL) parameters among different race-ethnicities from a large electronic health record database of subjects with or suspected of glaucoma. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, rates of change were obtained using joint longitudinal linear mixed models for eyes with ≥3 visits and ≥1 year of follow-up, adjusting for age, sex, intraocular pressure, central corneal thickness, and baseline pRNFL and mGCIPL thickness. Best linear unbiased predictor estimates of various parameters were stratified by baseline glaucoma severity and analysed by racial-ethnic group. RESULTS: A total of 21,472 spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) pRNFL scans and 14,431 mGCIPL scans from 2002 eyes were evaluated. A total of 200 (15.6%) and 601 (46.8%) subjects identified as non-Hispanic Black (NHB) and Hispanic, respectively. NHB eyes exhibited faster rates of change in pRNFL among glaucoma suspect (global pRNFL -0.57 ± 0.55 µm/year vs. -0.37 ± 0.62 µm/year among Hispanics, p < 0.001), mild glaucoma (superior pRNFL quadrant -1.20 ± 1.06 µm/year vs. -0.75 ± 1.51 µm/year among non-Hispanic Whites (NHW), p = 0.043), and moderate glaucoma eyes (superior pRNFL quadrant -1.31 ± 1.49 µm/year vs. -0.52 ± 1.26 µm/year among Hispanics, p = 0.003). NHB eyes exhibited faster rates of mGCIPL loss corresponding to pRNFL rates. Global pRNFL and mGCIPL rates were strongly correlated (R2 = 0.70). CONCLUSIONS: Adjusted rates of pRNFL and mGCIPL loss significantly differed between racial-ethnic groups when stratified by glaucoma severity, with faster rates among NHB patients. These differences highlight key racial-ethnic disparities in adjusted rates of glaucoma OCT parameters.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Zonular dialysis (ZD), referred to as the presence of a deficient zonular support for the lenticular capsule, might be the result of several causes and be detected only at the time of cataract surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate pre-, intra-, and postoperative features of eyes with ZD regardless of the etiology detected during cataract surgery. METHODS: A single-centre retrospective observational cohort study was performed at Moorfields Eye Hospital (NHS Foundation Trust, London, U.K.) to identify patients who underwent cataract surgery whose procedure was intraoperatively described as being complicated by ZD between January 1, 2014, and August 22, 2019. Patient characteristics, intraoperative clinical findings, visual and refractive outcomes, and postoperative complications were recorded. RESULTS: ZD was identified intraoperatively in 447 eyes. In most cases (213 of 223; 96.8%), patients underwent a phacoemulsification procedure, not requiring any conversion to intracapsular or extracapsular extraction technique. Intraoperative complications increased to 46.2% (103 of 223), with no significant correlation with ZD width. Capsular tension rings (CTRs) were implanted in 43.4% of patients (97 of 223). The use of CTRs correlated with better postoperative visual and refractive outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: ZD is a serious complication of cataract surgery requiring prompt intraoperative diagnosis and proper management. While it tends to worsen cataract surgery outcomes, the implantation of CTRs during the surgical procedure seems to be associated with better postoperative visual and refractive results.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to delineate the personality traits of patients affected by keratoconus (KC) compared with a group of nonkeratoconic controls matched in age and sex. METHODS: In this prospective interventional case-control study, 60 consecutive subjects (30 KC cases and 30 healthy controls), aged 18 to 30, were enrolled at the time of their first encounter at the ophthalmology unit of the Fondazione Policlinico "Tor Vergata", Roma. After completing the ophthalmic evaluation, participants were asked to respond to the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire-25 (NEI VFQ-25). A complete psychiatric assessment was performed, including the Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (SCID-5); the Symptom Check List-90-Revised (SCL-90); the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris, and San Diego-Modified (TEMPS-M); and the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI). RESULTS: Cases had lower quality of life than controls, as demonstrated by lower scores in all NEI VFQ-25 subdomains. Nine patients with KC (30.0%) were diagnosed by the SCID-5 with at least 1 cluster C personality disorder, resulting in a 9-fold increased risk compared with controls. Moreover, keratoconic patients showed a more pronounced psychosomatic symptomatology (SCL-90) and a characteristic neurotic temperament (TEMPS-M and NEO-FFI). CONCLUSIONS: Our results support the hypothesis that subjects with KC feature dysfunctional coping mechanisms and personality traits, which might already be present at the first clinical encounter. Ophthalmologists should question the mental and emotional status of patients with KC and be especially careful in managing these patients.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The study aims to assess ChatGPT performance on the Residency Admission National Exam to evaluate ChatGPT's level of medical knowledge compared to graduate medical doctors in Italy. METHODS: ChatGPT3 was used in June 2023 to undertake the 2022 Italian Residency Admission National Exam-a 140 multiple choice questions computer-based exam taken by all Italian medical graduates yearly, used to assess basic science and applied medical knowledge. The exam was scored using the same criteria defined by the national educational governing body. The performance of ChatGPT was compared to the performance of the 15,869 medical graduates who took the exam in July 2022. Lastly, the integrity and quality of ChatGPT's responses were evaluated. RESULTS: ChatGPT answered correctly 122 out of 140 questions. The score ranked in the top 98.8th percentile among 15,869 medical graduates. Among the 18 incorrect answers, 10 were evaluating direct questions on basic science medical knowledge, while 8 were evaluating candidates' applied clinical knowledge and reasoning under the form of case presentation. Errors were logical (2 incorrect answers) and informational in nature (16 incorrect answers). Explanations to the correct answers were all evaluated as "appropriate." Comparison to national statistics related to the minimal score needed to match into each specialty, demonstrated that the performance of ChatGPT would have granted the candidate a match into any specialty. CONCLUSION: ChatGPT proved to be proficient in basic science medical knowledge and applied clinical knowledge. Future research should assess the impact and reliability of ChatGPT in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is a common mitochondrial genetic disease, causing irreversible blindness in young individuals. Current treatments are inadequate, and there is no definitive cure. This study evaluates the effectiveness of delivering wildtype human NADH ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit 4 (hND4) gene using mito-targeted AAV(MTSAAV) to rescue LHOH mice. We observed a declining pattern in electroretinograms amplitudes as mice aged across all groups (p < 0.001), with significant differences among groups (p = 0.023; Control vs. LHON, p = 0.008; Control vs. Rescue, p = 0.228). Inner retinal thickness and intraocular pressure did not change significantly with age or groups. Compared to LHON mice, those rescued with wildtype hND4 exhibited improved retinal visual acuity (0.29 ± 0.1 cy/deg vs. 0.15 ± 0.1 cy/deg) and increased functional hyperemia response (effect of flicker, p < 0.001, effect of Group, p = 0.004; Interaction Flicker × Group, p < 0.001). Postmortem analysis shows a marked reduction in retinal ganglion cell density in the LHON group compared to the other groups (Effect of Group, p < 0.001, Control vs. LHON, p < 0.001, Control vs. Rescue, p = 0.106). These results suggest that MTSAAV-delivered wildtype hND4 gene rescues, at least in part, visual impairment in an LHON mouse model and has the therapeutic potential to treat this disease.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To describe a new proxy of the Eye Bank (EB) activity named "Eye Bank Efficiency Index" (EBEI), calculated as the ratio between the number of corneal tissues distributed by an EB within a certain time period, and the difference between the number of procured and discarded tissues. METHODS: To demonstrate the effectiveness of the new metric as compared to traditional statistics, an analysis was conducted using data from the largest Italian Eye Bank (Fondazione Banca degli Occhi del Veneto Venice, Italy). Collected data included: the number of corneas retrieved, the number of discarded grafts, and the number of distributed tissues. The analysis focused on three defined timeframes: January to December, March to May (the "Italian Lockdown period"), and June to December (the "Italian post-lockdown period"). RESULTS: In 2020, the annual variation of the EBEI showed a significant increase of up to 3.4% compared to the previous year (0.986 in 2019; 1.020 in 2020), but then gradually decreased to 0.993 in 2022. However, during the months of lockdown in 2020, there was a significant decline of -13.8% in the EBEI compared to the same period in the previous year. The variation in the EBEI during the post-lockdown months was minimal in 2020 and 2021, with the lowest EBEI value of 0.976 being reached in 2022 (-7.8% compared to 2019). CONCLUSION: The EBEI is a simple and reliable new measure of the EB activity. Its widespread adoption could ensure a more accurate and reliable analysis of EB data for academic, political, and economic purposes.

ABSTRACT

The main aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the safety and efficacy profile of immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS) compared with delayed sequential bilateral cataract surgery (DSBCS). MEDLINE Ovid, EMBASE, and CENTRAL databases were searched. Outcome measures were postoperative visual acuity, postoperative spherical equivalent (refractive outcome), endophthalmitis, corneal edema, pseudophakic macular edema, and posterior capsule rupture (PCR). 13 articles met criteria for final inclusion. A total of 11 068 622 participants (18 802 043 eyes) were included. No statistically significant differences between ISBCS and DSBCS were identified in all the postoperative outcomes evaluated. However, a higher risk for PCR was identified in the ISBCS group from the pooled analysis of nonrandomized studies (risk ratio, 1.34, 95% CI, 1.08-1.67, P = .0081). In our view, the ISBCS approach has an acceptable safety-efficacy profile, comparable with DSBCS. Future investigations are warranted, with a focus on the analysis of risk factors for surgical complications, patient-reported outcome-measures, and cost effectiveness.

Topic: To provide standardized confidence limits of the transient pattern electroretinogram (tPERG) P50 and N95 and steady state pattern electroretinogram (ssPERG) amplitudes in normal controls as compared to ocular hypertension (OHT), glaucoma suspect (GS), or early manifest glaucoma (EMG) eyes. Clinical Relevance: The identification of standardized confidence limits in the context of pattern electroretinogram (PERG) might overcome the high intrinsic variability of the measure, and it might lead to a more intuitive understanding of the results as well as to an easier comparison of data from multiple tests, sites, and operators. Methods: The study protocol was prospectively registered on the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (ID: CRD42022370032). A literature search was conducted on PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. Studies comparing PERG raw data in normal control eyes as compared to OHT, GS, or EMG were included. The risk of bias was assessed using the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence quality assessment tool. The main outcome was the P50, N95, and ssPERG amplitude difference between the control and the study groups' eyes. The standardized mean difference was calculated as a measure of the effect size for the primary outcome. A subanalysis was conducted based on the type of electrodes adopted for the PERG measurements (invasive vs. noninvasive). Results: Of the 4580 eligible papers, only 23 were included (1754 eyes). Statistically significant amplitude differences were found in the P50, N95, and ssPERG amplitudes between normal controls and OHT, GS, and EMG eyes. The highest standardized mean difference values were observed in the ssPERG amplitude in all 3 sets of comparison. The subanalysis did not reveal any statistically significant differences between invasive and noninvasive recording strategies. Conclusions: The use of standardized values as the main outcome measures in the context of the PERG data analysis is a valid approach, normalizing several confounding factors which have affected the clinical utility of PERG both for individual patients and in clinical trials. Steady state PERG apparently better discriminates diseased eyes compared to tPERG. The adoption of skin-active electrodes is able to adequately discriminate between healthy and diseased statuses. ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Lax eyelid condition (LEC) and floppy eyelid syndrome (FES) represent two distinct conditions which have been associated with several ocular and systemic comorbidities. The main aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to explore the available literature to estimate the prevalence rate of LEC and FES in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). METHODS: The protocol of this systematic review and meta-analysis has been registered in PROSPERO. Four electronic databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, Web of Science) were searched from inception to December 24, 2021. A random intercept logistic regression model was carried out for the analysis of overall proportions. Odds ratio and mean difference were reported as measures of the effect size in the presence of binary and continuous outcomes, respectively. The estimated numbers of LEC/FES patients in OSA were calculated by multiplying the prevalence rate determined by our random-effects model and the corresponding Benjafield et al.'s population prospect. RESULTS: We included 11 studies comprising 1225 OSA patients of whom 431 and 153 affected by LEC and FES, respectively. Our model estimated a pooled prevalence rate for LEC and FES in OSA patients of 40.2% (95%CI: 28.6-53.1%) and of 22.4% (95%CI: 13.8-34.2%), respectively. The number of LEC/FES affected individuals among OSA patients is expected to peak up to 376 and to 210 million, respectively. OSA patients appeared to have a 3.4 (95%CI: 2.2-5.2) and a 3.0 (95%CI: 1.7-5.5) increased risk of developing LEC and FES than the healthy counterpart. CONCLUSION: Prevalence of LEC and FES is higher in OSA-affected patients compared to controls. More studies are warranted to investigate the mechanisms leading to the development of LEC and/or FES in OSA patients, as well as the feasibility of the adoption of these clinical findings as screening tools for OSA.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of POAG in Europe. METHODS: Two authors independently conducted a systematic literature search on PubMed/MedLine, Web of Science, and Google Scholar to identify papers analyzing the prevalence of POAG in European countries. After removal of duplicates, title and abstract screening, and full-text analysis, data from selected articles were entered in an Excel spreadsheet. We performed risk of bias assessment using the Joanna Briggs Institute Prevalence Critical Appraisal Tool and conducted a meta-analysis using the R software (version 1.4.1106). RESULTS: We retrieved 9348 eligible papers from the initial electronic search and included 10 of them in the qualitative and quantitative analyses. A total of 26,993 patients were included in this meta-analysis (11,927 male and 14,556 female). We identified 755 POAG cases (397 male and 348 female), with a pooled prevalence estimate in Europe of 2.60% (95% confidence interval: 1.90%-3.56%). Increasing odds for POAG were related to increasing age and some geographic differences in the disease distribution in the continent were identified. Statistically significant sex-related differences in the prevalence rate of POAG were not observed in this cohort. CONCLUSION: POAG is a neurodegenerative disease that affects a large proportion of the older European population. In the future, the prevalence of POAG is expected to grow in Europe because of the progressive aging populations of Western countries. Future high-quality epidemiological studies for the evaluation of POAG prevalence rates are warranted.

BACKGROUND: Nasal septal deviation (NSD) is one of the most prevalent upper airway diseases causing airway obstruction, and it can negatively impact patients' quality of life (QoL). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the risk of anxiety and depression mood disorders in patients with NSD. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed according to the PRISMA statement. An electronic search was performed on PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus and Google Scholar. Raw affect size data were pooled comparing standardized between group mean differences. RESULTS: A total of 625 patients (males: 53 %, n = 280/525) with a mean age of 32.4 years (n = 375, 95 % CI: 25.3-39.4) were included. The pooled standardized mean differences (SMD) for the prevalence of the anxiety disorder was 1.17 (n = 625, 95 % CI: 0.34-2.0). The pooled SMD for the prevalence of the depression disorder was 0.30 (n = 490, 95 % CI: 0.12-0.48). CONCLUSION: Prevalence of anxiety and depression mood disorders is higher in patients with NSD compared to controls. These diseases should be investigated and considered during the diagnostic and therapeutic process to improve the QoL of patients with NSD.

Purpose: To evaluate the global prevalence of Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD). Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: A systematic electronic literature search was conducted on PubMed/MedLine, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar, in order to select papers analysing the prevalence rate of FECD. Two authors independently conducted the electronic search. After removal of duplicates, title and abstract screening, and full-text analysis, data from selected articles were archived in a customized Excel spreadsheet. Risk of bias assessment was performed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Prevalence Critical Appraisal Tool. Meta-analysis was conducted using R (version 1.4.1106, package "meta"). Results: A total of 6660 eligible articles were retrieved from the initial electronic search. Only 4 original works were included in the qualitative and quantitative analysis. Of the 4746 patients included in this meta-analysis (i.e., 2232 male (M) and 2322 female (F)), we retrieved 269 FECD cases (81 M; 188 F), with a pooled prevalence estimates of 7.33% (95% CI: 4.08-12.8%). Statistically significant gender-related differences in the prevalence of FECD emerged by the analysis (OR: 2.22; 95% CI: 1.66-2.96, p=0.0016). While the total number of people aged >30 years with FECD is nowadays estimated at nearly 300 million, an increase of 41.7% in the number of FECD-affected patients is expected by 2050, when the overall figure is supposed to rise up to 415 million. Conclusion: This study provides a reliable figure of the present and future epidemiological burden of FECD globally, which might be useful for the design of FECD screening, treatment, rehabilitation, and related public health strategies.

BACKGROUND: The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex biological regulatory system. Its expression and functionality have been widely investigated in ocular tissues. Recent data have reported its modulation to be valid in determining an ocular hypotensive and a neuroprotective effect in preclinical animal models of glaucoma. AIM: This study aimed to explore the available literature on cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R), cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2R), and transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) expression in the trabecular meshwork (TM), ciliary body (CB), and retina as well as their ocular hypotensive and neuroprotective effects in preclinical, in vivo, animal glaucoma models. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study adhered to both PRISMA and SYRCLE guidelines. Sixty-nine full-length articles were included in the final analysis. RESULTS: Preclinical studies indicated a widespread distribution of CB1R, CB2R, and TRPV1 in the TM, CB, and retina, although receptor-, age-, and species-dependent differences were observed. CB1R and CB2R modulation have been shown to exert ocular hypotensive effects in preclinical models via the regulation of inflow and outflow pathways. Retinal cell neuroprotection has been achieved in several experimental models, mediated by agonists and antagonists of CB1R, CB2R, and TRPV1. DISCUSSION: Despite the growing body of preclinical data regarding the expression and modulation of ECS in ocular tissues, the mechanisms responsible for the hypotensive and neuroprotective efficacy exerted by this system remain largely elusive. Research on this topic is advocated to further substantiate the hypothesis that the ECS is a new potential therapeutic target in the context of glaucoma.

ABSTRACT

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic exerted a great impact on medical practice, which was reframed according to the actual needs. Ophthalmological services and procedures including corneal transplantation did not represent an exception. The adoption and implementation of new standard operating procedures as well as of new technologies for remote consultation and smart-working reshaped daily activities of both eye bankers, physicians, researchers, and patients. Regulatory restrictions were issued redefining corneal donor eligibility criteria, as well as handling and harvesting procedures of donor ocular tissues. Surgical schedules underwent an abrupt contraction with prioritization of urgent procedures. Local lockdowns and confinement strategies resulted in both a reduction and redirection of research activities. The evaluation of SARS-CoV-2 colonization of ocular tissues, long-term corneal storage techniques, new disinfection strategies, split corneal transplants and cell-based therapies for the treatment of corneal disease peaked in the pipeline. Aim of this article is to summarizes the overall impact of the pandemic on the corneal transplantation machinery, and the current and future perspectives for the corneal transplant community.

ABSTRACT

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease has been described to possibly be associated with ocular surface disturbances. However, whether the virus could invade ocular tissues still remains elusive. In the present study, we tried to investigate the post-mortem presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in corneal epithelium gathered by patients with an ante-mortem confirmed diagnosis of Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). Cadavers with an ante-mortem confirmed diagnosis of moderate to severe COVID-19 were examined. Clinical and demographic features were retrieved from hospital patients' notes. For each cadaver, corneal scrapings, conjunctival swabs (CS) and nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS) were collected to perform real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction ((RT)-PCR) for SARS-CoV-2. Fourteen consecutive cadavers with an ante-mortem confirmed diagnosis of moderate to severe COVID-19 were examined. The last NPS performed ante-mortem confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection in 12/14 (85.7%) patients. The mean death-to-swab time (DtS) was 3.15 ± 0.5 (2.10-5.1) h. The post-mortem NPS and CS found positive for SARS-CoV-2 RNA were 9/14 (64.3%) and 3/28 (10.7%), respectively. None of the corneal epithelium scrapes tested positive to RT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2 RNA. These data promote the SARS-CoV-2 as not able to contaminate the post-mortem corneal epithelium, while it can persist in different other structures of the ocular surface (i.e., the conjunctiva). It is reasonable to assume that such a contamination can occur ante-mortem too.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To analyze the outcomes of retained lens fragment (RLF) in the anterior chamber after uneventful cataract surgery. SETTING: Moorfields Eye Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom. DESIGN: Retrospective, observational cross-sectional study. METHODS: A single-center, retrospective review was performed to identify patients who underwent RLF removal after uneventful phacoemulsification surgery between October 2012 and November 2018; 122 eyes from 121 patients were identified. Patient characteristics, clinical findings, visual outcomes, and need for subsequent surgical procedure were recorded. Main outcomes were change in corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), and number and risk factors associated with additional surgery following RLF removal. RESULTS: One hundred twenty-two RLF over a total of 98 467 uneventful phacoemulsification surgeries were identified, with an incidence of 1 (0.124%) in 807 operations. The mean CDVA improved significantly after RLF removal from 0.32 to 0.26 logMAR (SD 0.26) (P = .001). Six eyes (4.9%) had persistent corneal edema that required endothelial keratoplasty (EK) after a mean of 13 months after RLF removal (SD 12 months; median 8; range 4 to 35). Risk factors for EK include α-receptor blocker use (odds ratio [OR], 6.75; 95% CI, 1.069, 42.63), increased interval (month) between cataract surgery and diagnosis of RLF (OR, 1.29; CI: 1.080, 1.541), increased interval between cataract surgery and RLF washout (OR, 1.28; CI, 1.075, 1.522), and RLF diagnosis on gonioscopy (OR, 10.60; CI, 1.885, 59.59). CONCLUSIONS: RLF is a rare complication of uneventful cataract surgery and appears more frequently in challenging cataract cases and myopic eyes. CDVA improved significantly after RLF removal, but approximately 1 in 20 eyes needed additional surgery-mainly EK for corneal decompensation.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the impact of Coronavirus Disease-2019 lockdown on the Italian Eye Bank organization. In this national retrospective, multicentric, cohort study, data from the Italian Eye Bank during both the lockdown and the first month after the lockdown period were retrieved. We compared the Italian Eye Bank metrics with the same timeframe of 2019 and 2018. Data from 13 out of 13 (100%) Italian Eye Banks were included in the analysis. A statistically significant reduction in the number of donor corneas retrieved in 2020 was found as compared to the same period in 2019 and in 2018, respectively (2020 = 1284; 2019 = 3088; 2018 = 3221; ANOVA: p < 0.0001). Only 534 corneas have been distributed by Eye Banks during the COVID-19-lockdown period (2020 = 534; 2019 = 1220; 2018 = 1237. ANOVA: p < 0.0001). Similarly, the number of wasted corneas due to postponed or cancelled surgeries was 421, resulting in a considerable increase as compared to the previous 2 years (2020 = 421; 2019 = 67; 2018 = 84; ANOVA: p = 0.0035). Overall, 45 donor corneas were rejected in accordance with the guidance of the Italian National Health Institute Italian National Transplant Centre (CNT). SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has profoundly affected every social and medical field, including the Eye Bank procurement and distribution programs. The current data collected from all the Italian Eye Banks highlights the present and the forthcoming difficulties that the Eye Bank community is going to experience, as for the ongoing pandemic.
