Objectives: Analyze the presence of acute stress response after adverse events in human talent in Colombian health institutions from 2017 to 2021. Methods: Cross-sectional study of prevalence, carried out on 838 members of the human talent in health (professionals, technicians, technologists, and auxiliaries) of Colombian health institutions in the study period with the application of the EASE instrument. Univariate analysis using descriptive statistical techniques, chi-square and Student's t-test, and bivariate analysis with a Poisson regression model using the institucional SPSS v. 26. Results: The prevalence of adverse events in the last 5 years was 33.8%, presenting levels of acute stress qualifying as Medium-high emotional overload at 21.91%, while extreme acute stress was at 3.53%. The prevalence of risk for presenting acute stress after being involved in an adverse event was PR: 1.30 (CI: 1.24-1.36). Conclusion: Acute stress in human talent after adverse events is limiting health and care capacity and must be efficiently addressed by health institutions. Psychosocial risk is linked within the framework of the patient safety program and the institutional occupational health and safety management systems.

Derivatives of 3,9-dimethoxypterocarpan (1, homopterocarpin) were prepared by nitration, amination, and oxidation reactions, among others, and their antifungal activity was evaluated against the phytopathogenic fungi Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and C. lindemuthianum. Derivatives were purified by chromatographic techniques and identified by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Eight derivatives were obtained from 1 corresponding to 3,9-dimethoxy-8-nitropterocarpan (2), 3,9-dimethoxy-2,8-dinitropterocarpan (3), 3,9-dimethoxy-2,8,10-trinitropterocarpan (4), 2,8-diamino-3,9-dimethoxypterocarpan (5), 3,9-dimethylcoumestan (6), medicarpin (7), 2'-hydroxy-4-(2-hydroxyethylsulfanyl)-7,4'-dimethoxyisoflavan (8), and 4-(2-hydroxyethylsulfanyl)-7,2',4'-trimethoxyisoflavan (9). The in vitro antifungal activity of the derivatives was determined at concentrations between 35 and 704 µM. Compounds 7 and 8 at 704 µM, showed an inhibition of radial growth and spore germination close to 100%, exceeding that found for the starting compound 1, which was 46%. Growth inhibition assays were also performed for the derivative 8 on papaya fruits (Carica papaya L. cv. Hawaiana) and mango (Mangifera indica L. cv. Hilacha) infected with C. gloeosporioides. Compound 8 showed fungal growth inhibition in fruits higher than that found for 1 and thymol (a recognized natural antifungal), under the same conditions. In general, derivatives that exhibited greater antifungal activity correspond to the compounds containing hydroxyl groups in the structure. Some of the compounds obtained could be considered promising for the control of phytopathogenic fungi.

Eleven indanoyl derivatives were synthesized and, along with methyl jasmonate, evaluated as isoflavonoid-phytoalexin elicitors in two cultivars of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cvs. ICA-Cerinza and Uribe Rosado, tolerant and susceptible to anthracnose, respectively). Indanoyl derivatives (an ester, two amides, and eight indanoyl-amino acid conjugates) were obtained from 1-oxo-indane-4-carboxylic acid. In general, the accumulation of isoflavonoid-type phytoalexins, such as isoflavones (genistein, daidzein, and 2'-hydroxygenistein), isoflavanones (dalbergioidin and kievitone), isoflavan (phaseollinisoflavan), coumestrol, and pterocarpans (phaseollidin and phaseollin), was dependent on the common bean cultivar, the post-induction time, and the elicitor structure. Isoflavones, dalbergioidin, and coumestrol reached their highest amounts during the first 48 to 72 h, whereas kievitone, phaseollinisoflavano, and the pterocarpans reached maximum levels between 72 and 96 h. The 1-oxo-indanoyl-L-isoleucine methyl ester elicited the highest levels of phytoalexins (similar to those elicited by the methyl jasmonate) and showed no significant phytotoxic effects on common bean seedlings. The indanoyl-type synthetic elicitor, 1-oxo-indanoyl-L-isoleucine methyl ester, may represent a promising agronomic alternative for disease control in common bean by enhancing the accumulation of antimicrobial isoflavonoid phytoalexins.

This paper describes the evaluation of the antimicrobial and hemolytic activity of the hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts from seeds and epicarps of Garcinia madruno; as well garcinol, morelloflavone and volkensiflavone isolated from the same species. In the preliminary test of bacterial susceptibility, hexane extracts from seeds and epicarps and the three compounds tested only displayed inhibitory growth effect against Gram-positive bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of extract and compounds ranging from 86.6 to 1253.4 µg/mL. The hemolytic activity was assessed; however, except for the methanol extract from seeds, none of the samples studied induced hemolysis. Thus, our results suggest that extracts and compounds from G. madruno have the potential to be used in the control of pathologies associated to Gram-positive bacteria. This is the first report of the antimicrobial and hemolytic activity of extracts of different polarity obtained from seeds and epicarps of this edible species.
El presente artículo describe la evaluación de la actividad antimicrobiana y hemolítica de los extractos de hexano, diclorometano, acetato de etilo y metanol, obtenidos de la semilla y el epicarpio de Garcinia madruno; así como de garcinol, morelloflavona y volkensiflavona; aislados de la misma especie. En el ensayo de susceptibilidad bacteriana, tanto el extracto de hexano obtenido a partir de la semilla y el epicarpio, y los tres compuestos aislados, únicamente mostraron actividad inhibitoria del crecimiento contra bacterias Gram-positivas. La concentración mínima inhibitoria presentó valores entre 86.6 y 1253.4 µg/mL. También se estableció la actividad hemolítica; sin embargo, con excepción del extracto metanólico obtenido a partir de las semillas, ninguna de las muestras evaluadas indujo hemólisis. Por lo tanto, los resultados sugieren que los extractos y compuestos de G. madruno tienen el potencial de ser usados en el control de bacterias Gram-positivas asociadas a diversas patologías. Este es el primer reporte de actividad antimicrobiana y hemolítica de extractos de diferente polaridad obtenidos de las semillas y epicarpios de esta especie comestible.

Introducción: El síndrome de Wilkie es una causa infrecuente de obstrucción intestinal alta, debido a una compresión del duodeno entre la aorta abdominal y la arteria mesentérica superior, de diagnóstico preoperatorio difícil. El estudio baritado y la arteriografía son las pruebas diagnósticas por excelencia. Se ha invocado un manejo conservador en individuos con poco tiempo de evolución. Sin embargo, aquellos con enfermedad crónica habitualmente requieren corrección por medio de la intervención quirúrgica. Objetivo: Exponer el tratamiento de un paciente con diagnóstico de síndrome de Wilkie. Caso clínico: Masculino de 57 años con síndrome emético y pérdida ponderal más de 3 meses de evolución. La gastroduodenoscopia mostró dilatación de la segunda porción duodenal por probable comprensión extrínseca y la serie contrastada reveló stop a nivel de la unión duodenoyeyunal. Se realizó una duodenoyeyunostomía latero-lateral transmesocólica, sin drenaje de vecindad con evolución favorable. Conclusiones: Un alto índice de sospecha se requiere para un diagnóstico acertado de esta entidad. La duodenoyeyunostomía es el proceder quirúrgico que ofrece mejores resultados(AU)
Introduction: Wilkie syndrome is a rare cause for upper intestinal obstruction, due to a compression of the duodenum between the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery, of difficult preoperative diagnosis. Barium study and arteriography are the gold-standard diagnostics. Conservative management has been preferred in individuals with short time of evolution. However, those with chronic disease usually require correction by surgical intervention. Objective: To present the management of a patient diagnosed with Wilkie syndrome. Case report: A 57-year-old male patient with emetic syndrome and weight loss of more than three months of evolution. Gastroduodenoscopy showed dilatation of the second duodenal portion due to probable extrinsic compression, while the contrast series revealed stop at the duodenojejunal junction. A transmesocolic latero-lateral duodenojejunostomy was performed, without neighboring drainage and with favorable evolution. Conclusions: A high index of suspicion is required for an accurate diagnosis of this entity. Duodenojejunostomy is the surgical procedure that offers the best outcomes(AU)

Leishmaniasis, trypanosomiasis, and malaria are a group of neglected tropical diseases present in tropical regions and they affect large numbers of people in developing countries. A series of thirteen coumaro-chalcones (A1-A13) were synthesized under solvent-free conditions and their in vitro anti-leishmanial, anti-plasmodial, anti-trypanosomal and cytotoxic activities were evaluated. One of these coumaro-chalcones, 3-[(2E)-3-(3-ethoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoyl]-2H-chromen-2-one (A12), is a new compound. Compounds 3-[(2E)-3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoyl]-2H-chromen-2-one (A5), 3-[(2E)-3-(3-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enoyl]-2H-chromen-2-one (A2) and 3-[(2E)-3-phenylprop-2-enoyl]-2H-chromen-2-one (A1) displayed strong inhibition against intracellular amastigotes of Leishmania panamensis with EC50 of 2.1 ± 0.1, 2.5 ± 0.2 and 3.7 ± 0.5 µM, respectively. In addition, Plasmodium falciparum was moderately inhibited by the coumarin-chalcone hybrids, particularly A12 (EC50: 15.0 ± 0.5 µM) and 3-[(2E)-3-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)prop-2-enoyl]-2H-chromen-2-one (A13) (EC50: 15.2 ± 1.1 µM). Remarkably, the coumaro-chalcone A5 (EC50: 18.7 ± 2.4 µM) exhibited an inhibition of the Trypanosoma cruzi intracellular amastigotes similar to the commercial drug Benznidazole (EC50: 14.5 ± 0.1 µM). These results support the therapeutic potential of coumaro-chalcone hybrids.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The effect of the COVID- 19 pandemic on the development of children is still uncertain; therefore, it is essential to estimate their development status in the time before the pandemic. The sustainable development goals favor all the resources and strategies to stimulate early childhood development. Government effectiveness is the central axis of developing such actions, policies, and procedures. Methods: We used the early child development module and index from national health surveys (MICS) of 33 countries to calculate the children on track. We also use the World Bank Governance Index, specifically the effective governance score. In addition, we carry out analysis with ArcGIS and GeoDa software to evaluate geographic correlations between the variables studied and identify geographic patterns of child development levels and effective governance. Pearson and Spearman correlation tests were performed in Stata 15.1 software. Results: We studied children from 33 low and middle-income countries; from 7 world regions. Thailand (91.1%) and Turkmenistan (90.7%) have the highest percentages of child development and the lowest in Burundi (39.6%). The lowest value on GE estimate is in Burundi (-1.3), and the highest in the Democratic Republic of Korea (1.0). In the GE Rank, the highest values are again in Korea (82.1%), and the lowest in Haiti (0.9%). The correlation grade between ECDI and GE Estimate was moderate positive (0.522, P-0.001, Correlation Spearman test), similarly to (0.518, P-0001, Pearson correlation test). The general spatial pattern prevails that the African regions present low government effectiveness and early child development scores, positively correlated in this study. Conclusions: With the most up-to-date data reported by countries, it is possible to establish the level of child development before 2019, the year in which the COVID-2019 pandemic began. Studies must be carried out during and after the pandemic to develop the direct and indirect damage received by children in the dimensions of development, in which the government response is decisive.
Resumen Introducción: El efecto que tendrá la pandemia de COVID- 19 en el desarrollo de los niños aún es incierto, por lo que es importante estimar su estado en el tiempo anterior a la pandemia. Los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible exigen favorecer todos los recursos y estrategias para estimular el desarrollo de la primera infancia. La efectividad del gobierno es el eje central del desarrollo de tales acciones, políticas y estrategias en todos los países, especialmente en los países de ingresos bajos y medianos. Métodos: se usó El módulo de desarrollo infantil temprano y el índice de las encuestas nacionales de salud (MICS) de 33 países, para calcular los niños que van por buen camino en su desarrollo. También se utilizó el Índice de Gobernanza del Banco Mundial, específicamente el puntaje de Gobernanza Efectiva. Además, se realizaron análisis con el software ArcGIS y GeoDa para evaluar correlaciones geográficas entre las variables estudiadas e identificar patrones geográficos de niveles de desarrollo infantil y gobernabilidad efectiva. Las pruebas de correlación de Pearson y Spearman se realizaron en el software Stata 15.1. Resultados: Se estudiaron niños de 33 países de ingresos bajos y medios; de 7 regiones del mundo. Tailandia (91,1%) y Turkmenistán (90,7%) tienen los porcentajes más altos de desarrollo infantil y Burundi el más bajo (39,6%). Según la estimación de GE, el valor más bajo se encuentra en Burundi (-1,3) y el más alto en la República Democrática de Corea (1). En el GE Rank, los valores más altos se encuentran en Corea con 82,1% y los más bajos en Haití (0,9%). El grado de correlación entre el ECDI y la estimación de GE fue positivo moderado (0,522, P-0,001, prueba de correlación de Spearman), similar (0,518, P-0001, prueba de correlación de Pearson). Poor school performance may increase the risk of crime and violence via effects on self-esteem, risky behaviours, peer networks, and perceived stakes in society. Despite very high rates of violence in Latin America, no longitudinal research has addressed this issue in the region. Two aspects of educational performance (grade repetition and school completion) were examined during adolescence in a population-based Brazilian birth cohort study (n = 3584). Violent and non-violent crime were measured at age 22 years in confidential self-reports; sociodemographic, family, and individual confounders were measured between birth and age 11 years, and potential mediators were measured at age 18 years. The prevalence of violent and non-violent crimes at 22 years was 8.2% and 3.3%, respectively, referring to acts in the previous twelve months. For youth repeating school grades three times or more, the odds of violent crime were 2.4 (95%CI: 1.6-3.6) times higher than for those who had not repeated any school grade. Youth completing school had a lower risk for both violent (OR = 0.5; 95%CI: 0.4-0.7) and non-violent crime (OR = 0.3; 95%CI: 0.2-0.5), compared to those who did not finish school by the expected age. The protective effect of completing school was independent of the number of grades previously repeated. In conclusion, repeating school grades was associated with increased risk for crime; however, successfully managing to complete school by the expected age was an important protective factor against crime, even after multiple grade repetitions. Ivory nut seeds have been traditionally exploited in Central and South America for obtaining vegetable ivory. The residues from this industry are susceptible to valorization as a source of fatty acids (by organic extraction) and mannans (by alkaline dissolution and regeneration). Nonetheless, cellulose may also be recovered at the end of this fractionation process by acid hydrolysis and functionalization, with associated advantages over other lignocellulosic sources due to the absence of lignin in the endospermic tissue. In this work, various experimental parameters (sulfuric acid concentration, temperature, and hydrolysis time) were investigated to optimize the processing conditions for preparing stable nanocellulose suspensions after ultrasonication. The most stable nanocellulose gel (1 wt% solid content) was obtained after 4-h hydrolysis at 60 °C with 8 M H2SO4 and was characterized by using complementary tech-niques, including dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), nano-fibril sulfation measurements, vibrational and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (CP/MAS 13C-NMR) spectroscopies, and thermal analysis. This nanocellulose hydrogel is susceptible to further utilization in various applications and fields, e.g., in agricul-ture for controlling the release of agrochemicals, in pharmaceutics for developing new dosage forms, and in the treatment of wastewater from the textile and paper industries.

Isoflavonoid phytoalexins (isoflavones: genistein, 2'-hydroxygenistein, and daidzein; isoflavanones: dalbergioidin and kievitone; coumestrol; pterocarpans: phaseollidin and phaseollin; and the isoflavan: phaseollinisoflavan) production in response to the application of eleven 1-oxo-indane-4-carboxylic acid derivatives (indanoyl esters and indanoyl amino acids conjugates), in cotyledons and hypocotyl/root of two common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars was evaluated. The content of isoflavonoids depended on the cultivar, the treated tissue, the time after induction, the structure and concentration of the elicitor. The highest isoflavonoid contents were found when 1-oxo-indanoyl-amino acids conjugates were used as elicitors. Cotyledons and hypocotyl/root of the anthracnose-resistant cultivar produced significantly higher isoflavonoid contents as compared to the susceptible one. Maximum levels of phaseollin were obtained using 0.66 mM 1-oxo-indanoyl-l-isoleucyl methyl ester and between 72 and 96 h post-induction. So, 1-oxo-indane-4-carboxylic acid derivatives, may be used to enhance the amount of isoflavonoid phytoalexins in common bean and protect crops from phytopathogenic microorganisms.

Metabolism and in vitro fungitoxicity of perinaphthenone against three economically important fungi of the citrus, Botryodiplodia spp., Botrytis spp. and Fusarium spp. were investigated. Perinaphthenone exhibited significant antifungal activity at 62.5 µM and above. Even, the inhibitory effect against Fusarium spp. was significantly enhanced by exposure to direct light. In addition, the metabolism of perinaphthenone by the three fungi was studied. Results show that perinaphthenone was transformed almost completely during the first 24 h; two major products, whose concentration increased progressively during the twelve days of the test, were isolated and identified as 2,3-dihydro-1H-phenalen-1-ol and 2,3-dihydro-phenalen-1-one. Although both metabolic products displayed a considerable fungistatic effect, their slightly lower activities in comparison to perinaphthenone indicate that the transformation was a detoxification process. Studies on the relationship between the effect of some substituents in the perinaphthenone core and the mycelial growth inhibition of Botryodiplodia spp. were also carried out. Results show that the α, ß-unsaturated carbonyl system is an important structural requirement but not the only to be necessary for the strong antifungal activity of perinaphthenone. In general, the antifungal properties of perinaphthenone may be modulated through the incorporation of substituents in the naphthalene core or in the α, ß-unsaturated carbonyl system. It is concluded that perinaphthenone could be used as an antifungal agent or as a structural template for the development of new fungicide compounds.

BACKGROUND: The Sustainable Development Goals call for inclusive, equitable and quality learning opportunities for all. This is especially important for children, to ensure they all develop to their full potential. We studied the prevalence and inequalities of suspected delay in child development in 63 low- and middle-income countries. METHODS: We used the early child development module from national health surveys, which covers four developmental domains (physical, social-emotional, learning, literacy-numeracy) and provides a combined indicator (early child development index, ECDI) of whether children are on track. We calculated the age-adjusted prevalence of suspected delay at the country level and stratifying by wealth, urban/rural residence, sex of the child and maternal education. We also calculated measures of absolute and relative inequality. RESULTS: We studied 330 613 children from 63 countries. Prevalence of suspected delay for the ECDI ranged from 3% in Barbados to 67% in Chad. For all countries together, 25% of the children were suspected of developmental delay. At regional level, prevalence of delay ranged from 10% in Europe and Central Asia to 42% in West and Central Africa. The literacy-numeracy domain was by far the most challenging, with the highest proportions of delay. We observed very large inequalities, and most markedly for the literacy-numeracy domain. CONCLUSIONS: To date, our study presents the most comprehensive analysis of child development using an instrument especially developed for national health surveys. With a quarter of the children globally suspected of developmental delay, we face an immense challenge. The multifactorial aspect of early child development and the large gaps we found only add to the challenge of not leaving these children behind.

RESUMEN La pandemia actual COVID-19 ha afectado la población mundial con cifras alarmantes de contaminados y fallecidos, con un agotamiento de los recursos logísticos de los sistemas de salud. No serán pocos los pacientes sospechosos o confirmados de esta enfermedad que necesitarán tratamiento quirúrgico impostergable. El objetivo del estudio es exponer un conjunto de medidas para garantizar la mejor atención de estos pacientes, reducir la posibilidad de contagio entre pacientes, del personal sanitario y el desarrollo de complicaciones postoperatorias. Se realizó una revisión de la literatura actualizada sobre el tema en formato digital, en publicaciones en idioma inglés y español. La reorganización de los servicios quirúrgicos es necesaria para garantizar la mejor atención a los pacientes, salvaguardar al personal sanitario y utilizar adecuadamente los recursos del sistema de salud(AU)
ABSTRACT The current COVID-19 pandemic has affected the world population with alarming numbers of contaminated and fatalities, with a depletion of the logistical resources of health systems. There will be few suspected or confirmed patients of this disease who will need urgent surgical treatment. The objective of the study is to present a set of measures to guarantee the best care of these patients, reduce the possibility of contagion between patients, health personnel and the development of postoperative complications. A review of the updated literature on the subject was carried out in digital format, in publications in English and Spanish. The reorganization of surgical services is necessary to guarantee the best care for patients, safeguard health personnel, and use the resources of the health system properly(AU)

Anthracnose, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. & Sacc., is the most limiting fungal disease of mango and papaya crops in Colombia. The in vivo and in vitro activity against C. gloeosporioides of the extracts from sawdust of Brosimum rubescens Taub. (Moraceae) was evaluated. The extracts of less polarity (n-hexane and dichloromethane) displayed the greatest inhibitory effects. Then, the coumarins xanthyletin (2.74 % d.w.) and 7-demethylsuberosin (2.19 % d.w.) were isolated from these extracts. The compound 7-demethylsuberosin displayed a strong in vivo and in vitro antifungal activity. Furthermore, the metabolism of 7-demethylsuberosin by the fungus C. gloeosporioides was analyzed. The fungus slowly detoxified 7-demethylsuberosin to marmesin and decursinol. Therefore, the high antifungal activity and low level of detoxification make 7-demethylsuberosin, and the extracts that contain it, promising candidates for controlling C. gloeosporioides. Sawdust of B. rubescens may be considered a valuable source of extracts and coumarins with antifungal activity.

Pajarito), Mandarine lime (Citrus x limonia, a hybrid between Citrus reticulata and Citrus x limon) and Tahitian lime (C. latifolia Tanaka, syn. Persian lime). Coumarins, furanocoumarins and polymethoxylated flavones are the major compounds. Then, six coumarins were isolated and identified from fruits of Tahitian and Key lime corresponding to 5-geranyloxy-7-methoxycoumarin; 5,7-dimethoxycoumarin (syn. limettin); 5,8-dimethoxypsoralen (syn. isopimpinellin); 5-methoxypsoralen (syn. bergaptene); 5-geranoxypsoralen (syn. bergamottin) and 5-(2,3-dihydroxy-3-methylbutoxy) psoralen (syn. oxypeucedanin hydrate). Coumarins and furanocoumarins were quantified by liquid chromatography (HPLC-DAD). Results show that the prenylated compounds were present in high concentrations in Tahitian and Key lime but in very low amounts in mandarins and sweet orange. Subsequently, the antifungal activity (inhibition of mycelial growth and germination of spores) of the coumarins against the fungus causing the anthracnose, Colletotrichum sp. (isolated from aerial parts of Tahitian lime) was determined. The compounds limettin and bergaptene, as well as mixtures of them, showed significant inhibitory effect (radial growth and spore germination) when compared to the control. Finally, the effect of some recognized elicitors to induce the coumarin production in fruits of C. latifolia was evaluated. The results showed that the chemical profiles are dependent on the applied elicitor and the post-induction time. As a result of the induction, a high concentration of some coumarins and furanocoumarins was maintained in the course of time for the Tahitian lime. In conclusion, isolated coumarins could be involved in the defense mechanisms of C. latifolia, C. aurantifolia and C. limonia and their accumulation may be modulated by the application of elicitors.
ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the impacts of the care to the population displaced by violence on the health system and the challenges that this entails. METHODS: This is a narrative review of the national and international literature in PubMed, SciELO, WHO/PAHO, and Bireme. Inclusion criteria were date of publication (from 2000), relation with the subject, and language (Spanish or English). We found 292 documents, of which 91 met the inclusion criteria. RESULTS: The main challenges are the intersectoral, participatory, and integral approach (with emphasis on mental health and sexual and reproductive health), ensured accessibility to health services, the need for a reliable registration and information system of the population displaced by violence and its characteristics, and the addressing of the biopsychosocial problems of the different groups, especially women, persons with disabilities or infectious diseases, adolescents, children, ethnic minorities, older adults and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, and intersexual population. CONCLUSIONS: The lack of political will to accept and see the internal displacement by violence and its importance as a humanitarian and public health problem is an obstacle to the adequate and timely care of the population displaced by violence in Mexico.

Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging platform in which every day physical objects provided with unique identifiers are connected to the Internet without requiring human interaction. The possibilities of such a connected world enables new forms of automation to make our lives easier and safer. Evidently, in order to keep billions of these communicating devices powered long-term, a self-sustainable operation is a key point for realization of such a complex network. In this sense, energy-harvesting technologies combined with low power consumption ICs eliminate the need for batteries, removing an obstacle to the success of the IoT. In this work, a Radio Frequency (RF) energy harvester tuned at AM broadcast has been developed for low consumption power devices. The AM signals from ambient are detected via a high-performance antenna-free LC circuit with an efficiency of 3.2%. To maximize energy scavenging, the RF-DC conversion stage is based on a full-wave Cockcroft-Walton voltage multiplier (CWVM) with efficiency up to 90%. System performance is evaluated by rating the maximum power delivered into the load via its output impedance, which is around 62 µW, although power level seems to be low, it is able to power up low consumption devices such as Leds, portable calculators and weather monitoring stations.
