ABSTRACT

Aim To study the neuroprotective effects of Herba siegesbeckiae extract on cerebral ischemia/ reperfusion rats and its mechanism. Methods Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into model group, low, middle and high dose groups of Herba siegesbeckiae, and Sham operation group, and the drug was given continuously for seven days. The degree of neurologic impairment was evaluated by mNSS, and the infarct volume was measured by MRI. The number of Nissl-posi- tive cells was detected by Nissl staining, and the apop- tosis was accessed by Tunel staining. Furthermore, the expression of Bax, Bcl-2 and NeuN was observed by Western blot, and the expression of NeuN was detected by immunofluorescence staining. The expression of IL- 1β, TNF-α and IL-6 mRNA was performed by RT- qPCR. Results The mNSS score and the volume of ischemic cerebral infarction in the model group were significantly increased, and Herba siegesbeckiae extract treatment significantly decreased the mNSS score and infarct volume (P<0.05, P<0.01). Herba siegesbeckiae extract could increase the number of Nissl-pos- itive cells and the expression of NeuN (P<0.01), and reduce the number of Tunel-positive cells (P<0.01). Western blot showed that Herba siegesbeckiae extract inhibited the expression of Bax, increased Bcl-2 and NeuN in ischemic brain tissue (P<0.01). RT-qPCR showed that Herba siegesbeckiae extract inhibited the expression of IL-1 β, TNF-α and IL-6 mRNA in the is-chemic brain tissue (P<0.01). Conclusions Herba siegesbeckiae extract can reduce the cerebral infarction volume, improve the neurological function damage, inhibit the apoptosis of nerve cells and the expression of inflammatory factors and promote the expression of NeuN, there by exerting protective effects on MCAO rats.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The ventral tegmental area (VTA) contains heterogeneous cell populations. The dopaminergic neurons in VTA play a central role in reward and cognition, while CamKIIα-positive neurons, composed mainly of glutamatergic and some dopaminergic neurons, participate in the reward learning and locomotor activity behaviors. The differences in brain-wide functional and structural networks between these two neuronal subtypes were comparatively elucidated. METHODS: In this study, we applied a method combining Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs (DREADD) and fMRI to assess the cell type-specific modulation of whole-brain neural networks. rAAV encoding the cre-dependent hM3D was injected into the right VTA of DAT-cre or CamKIIα-cre transgenic rats. The global brain activities elicited by DREADD stimulation were then detected using BOLD-fMRI. Furthermore, the cre-dependent antegrade transsynaptic viral tracer H129ΔTK-TT was applied to label the outputs of VTA neurons. RESULTS: We found that DREADD stimulation of dopaminergic neurons induced significant BOLD signal changes in the VTA and several VTA-related regions including mPFC, Cg and Septum. More regions responded to selective activation of VTA CamKIIα-positive neurons, resulting in increased BOLD signals in VTA, Insula, mPFC, MC_R (Right), Cg, Septum, Hipp, TH_R, PtA_R, and ViC_R. Along with DREADD-BOLD analysis, further neuronal tracing identified multiple cortical (MC, mPFC) and subcortical (Hipp, TH) brain regions that are structurally and functionally connected by VTA dopaminergic and CamKIIα-positive neurons. CONCLUSIONS: Our study dissects brain-wide structural and functional networks of two neuronal subtypes in VTA and advances our understanding of VTA functions.

ABSTRACT

Neuropathic pain (NP) is associated with sleep disturbances, which may substantially influence the quality of life. Clinical and animal studies demonstrated that neurotransmitter is one of the main contributors to cause sleep disturbances induced by NP. Recently, it was reported that P2X7 receptors (P2X7R) are widely expressed in microglia, which serves crucial role in neuronal activity in the pain and sleep-awake cycle. In this study, we adopted the chronic constriction injury (CCI) model to establish the progress of chronic pain and investigated whether P2X7R of microglia in cortex played a critical role in sleep disturbance induced by NP. At electroencephalogram (EEG) level, sleep disturbance was observed in mice treated with CCI as they exhibited mechanical and thermal hypersensitivity, and inhibition of P2X7R ameliorated these changes. We showed a dramatic high level of P2X7R and Iba-1 co-expression in the cortical region, and the inhibition of P2X7R also adversely affected it. Furthermore, the power of LFPs in ventral posterior nucleus (VP) and primary somatosensory cortex (S1) which changed in the CCI group was adverse after the inhibition of P2X7R. Furthermore, inhibition of P2X7R also decreased the VP-S1 coherence which increased in CCI group. Nuclear magnetic resonance demonstrated inhibition of P2X7R decreased glutamate (Glu) levels in thalamic and cortical regions which were significantly increased in the CCI mice. Our findings provide evidence that NP has a critical effect on neuronal activity linked to sleep and may built up a new target for the development of sleep disturbances under chronic pain conditions.

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the effects of electro-scalp acupuncture (ESA) on the expression of microglial markers CD206 and CD32, as well as interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, and IL-10 in the ischemic cortex of rats with ischemic stroke, and to explore the mechanisms of ESA on alleviating inflammatory damage of ischemic stroke.@*METHODS@#Sixty 7-week-old male SD rats were randomly selected, with 15 rats assigned to a sham surgery group. The remaining rats were treated with suture method to establish rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). The rats with successful model were randomly divided into a model group, a VitD3 group, and an ESA group, with 15 rats in each group. In the ESA group, ESA was performed bilaterally at the "top-temporal anterior oblique line" with disperse-dense wave, a frequency of 2 Hz/100 Hz, and an intensity of 1 mA. Each session lasted for 30 min, once daily, for a total of 7 days. The VitD3 group were treated with intragastric administration of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25-VitD3) solution (3 ng/100 g), once daily for 7 days. The neurological deficit scores and neurobehavioral scores were assessed before and after the intervention. After the intervention, the brain infarct volume was evaluated using 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining. Immunofluorescence double staining was performed to detect the protein expression of CD32 and CD206 in the ischemic cortex. Western blot analysis was conducted to measure the protein expression of IL-6, IL-1β, and IL-10 in the ischemic cortex.@*RESULTS@#Compared with the sham surgery group, the model group showed increased neurological deficit scores and neurobehavioral scores (P<0.01), increased brain infarct volume (P<0.01), increased protein expression of CD32, IL-6, and IL-1β in the ischemic cortex (P<0.01), and decreased protein expression of CD206 and IL-10 in the ischemic cortex (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, both the ESA group and the VitD3 group showed decreased neurological deficit scores and neurobehavioral scores (P<0.01), reduced brain infarct volume (P<0.01), decreased protein expression of CD32, IL-6, and IL-1β in the ischemic cortex (P<0.01), and increased protein expression of CD206 and IL-10 in the ischemic cortex (P<0.01). Compared with the VitD3 group, the ESA group had lower neurological deficit score (P<0.05), larger brain infarct volume (P< 0.05), and lower protein expression of CD32, CD206, IL-1β, and IL-10 in the ischemic cortex (P<0.01, P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#ESA could improve neurological function in MCAO rats, and its mechanism may be related to promoting microglial M1-to-M2 polarization and alleviating inflammatory damage.

ABSTRACT

A mammalian brain contains numerous neurons with distinct cell types for complex neural circuits. Virus-based circuit tracing tools are powerful in tracking the interaction among the different brain regions. However, detecting brain-wide neural networks in vivo remains challenging since most viral tracing systems rely on postmortem optical imaging. We developed a novel approach that enables in vivo detection of brain-wide neural connections based on metal-free magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) with retrograde ability, the rAAV2-retro, encoding the human water channel aquaporin 1 (AQP1) MRI reporter gene was generated to label neural connections. The mouse was micro-injected with the virus at the Caudate Putamen (CPU) region and subjected to detection with Diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI). The prominent structure of the CPU-connected network was clearly defined. In combination with a Cre-loxP system, rAAV2-retro expressing Cre-dependent AQP1 provides a CPU-connected network of specific type neurons. Here, we established a sensitive, metal-free MRI-based strategy for in vivo detection of cell type-specific neural connections in the whole brain, which could visualize the dynamic changes of neural networks in rodents and potentially in non-human primates.

ABSTRACT

Chronic pain during adolescence can lead to mental health disorders in adulthood, but the underlying mechanism is still unclear. Furthermore, the homeostasis of cerebral glucose metabolism and neurotransmitter metabolic kinetics are closely associated with cognitive development and pain progression. The present study investigated changes in cognitive function and glucose metabolism in adult rats, which had experienced chronic pain during their adolescence. Here, spared nerve injury (SNI) surgery was conducted in 4-week-old male rats. Mechanical nociceptive reflex thresholds were analyzed, and SNI chronic pain (SNI-CP) animals were screened. Based on animal behavioral tests (open field, three-chambered social, novel object recognition and the Y maze), the SNI-CP animals showed learning and memory impairment and anxiety-like behaviors, compared to SNI no chronic pain (SNI-NCP) animals. The cerebral glucose metabolism in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of adult SNI-CP animals was decreased with positron emission tomography/computed tomography. GABA2 and Glu4 levels in the metabolic kinetics study were significantly decreased in the hippocampus, frontal cortex, and temporal cortex, and the expression of GLUT3 and GLUT4 was also significantly downregulated in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of adult rats in the SNI-CP group. These findings suggest that the rats which suffered chronic pain during adolescence have lower cerebral glucose metabolism in the cortex and hippocampus, which could be related to cognitive function during the development of the central nervous system.

ABSTRACT

In order to promote the rapid development of the meat sheep industry, a three-way crossbred combination experiment was carried out with Australian White, Dorper, and Charollais sheep as terminal male parents and the elite F1 hybrids of Australian White  × â€¯Small-tailed Han (Han), Dorper  × â€¯Han, and Charollais  × â€¯Han as female parents, which was based on the screening of a two-way crossbred combination in meat sheep. The growth performance of six groups of three-way crossbred combinations and Han lambs was measured and analyzed, and the effect of a polymorphism in the CLPG gene on the growth performance of three-way crossbred lambs was also studied. The results showed that under the same rearing conditions, weight at 3 and 6 months of age and average daily gain from birth to 3 months and from 3 to 6 months of age were all the largest for Australian  × â€¯(Charollais  × â€¯Han) crossbred lambs. They were significantly or extremely significant different from the other three-way crossbred combinations and Han lambs ( P < 0.05 , P < 0.01 ). The body height, body length, chest girth, and cannon bone circumference at 3 months of age and body length, chest girth, and cannon bone circumference at 6 months of age were also the largest for Australian  × â€¯(Charollais  × â€¯Han) crossbred lambs. Among them, body length, chest girth, and cannon bone circumference at 3 months of age were significantly different from the other three-way crossbred combinations and Han lambs ( P < 0.05 ), and body length, chest girth, and cannon bone circumference at 6 months of age were significantly or extremely significant different from the other three-way crossbred combinations and Han lambs ( P < 0.05 , P < 0.01 ). The potential genetic effects of the CLPG gene on the growth performance indicators of three-way crossbred lambs showed that a mutation site ( g .232 C   >   T ) of this gene had two genotypes: CC and CT. Among them, the data of body weights and body sizes from CT genotype individuals at birth, 3 months old, and 6 months old were significantly higher than those of CC genotype individuals, and some indicators showed significant or extremely significant differences ( P < 0.05 , P < 0.01 ), suggesting that higher growth performance was observed in individuals with T alleles. To sum up, the crossbred combination of Australian  × â€¯(Charollais  × â€¯Han) could be suggested as the optimal choice. The T allele of the CLPG gene showed potential advantages in the performance of meat production in meat sheep. Based on the current results, we recommend that the offspring of Australian  × â€¯(Charollais  × â€¯Han) with the T allele should be preferentially utilized for meat sheep production.

Aim To study the neuroprotective effect of p-benzoyl salidroside (pOBz), a derivative of salidroside, on MCAO model rats.Methods ( 1 ) Thirty healthy adult male SD rats were randomly divided into Sham group, MCAO group and MCAO + pOBz group (25, 50, 1(X) mg • kg"1).MCAO model was made by suture-embolus method.The rats were scored for neurological function impairment and weighed every day.pOBz was intraperitoneally injected and administered continuously for two days after preparation of MCAO model.The cerebral infarction volume of rats was detected by MRI.( 2 ) Twenty-four healthy adult male SD rats were randomly divided into Sham group, MCAO group, MCAO + pOBz group (50 mg • kg"1 ) and MCAO + Sal group (50 mg • kg 1 ).The model was made by the suture-embolus method.pOBz was in-traperitoneally injected and administered continuously for one day.Western blot was used to detect the ex pression of NeuN, EGR1 , Bcl-2 and Bax.(3) Eighteen healthy adult male SD rats were randomly divided j j into Sham group, MCAO group and MCAO + pOBz group ( 50 mg • kg 1 ).Administration continued for 2 days.Immunofluorescence staining was used to detect the expression of NeuN.Results Intraperitoneal injection of pOBz for 2 days could reduce the cerebral infarction volume of MCAO rats, improve neurological impairment and increase the expression of NeuN and EGR1 , and the effect was better than that of Sal.pOBz improved Bcl-2/Bax in brain tissues of MCAO rats to the same extent as Sal did.Conclusions pOBz can reduce the volume of cerebral infarction in MCAO rats and has better neuroprotective effect than that of salidroside.

ABSTRACT

The extraorbital lacrimal glands (ELGs) secret tears to maintain a homeostatic environment for ocular surfaces, and pheromones to mediate social interactions. Although its distinct gender-related differences in mice and rats have been identified, its comprehensive histology together with whole-brain neuronal network remain largely unknown. The primary objective of the present study was to investigate whether sex-specific differences take place in histological and physiological perspectives. Morphological and histological data were obtained via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining in mice and rats of both genders. The innervating network was visualized by a pseudorabies virus (PRV) mediated retrograde trans-multi-synaptic tracing system for adult C57BL6/J mice of both genders. In terms of ELGs' anatomy, mice and rats across genders both have 7 main lobes, with one exception observed in female rats which have only 5 lobes. Both female rats and mice generally have relatively smaller shape size, absolute weight, and cell size than males. Our viral tracing revealed a similar trend of innervating patterns antero-posteriorly, but significant gender differences were also observed in the hypothalamus (HY), olfactory areas (OLF), and striatum (STR). Brain regions including piriform area (Pir), post-piriform transition area (TR), central amygdalar nucleus (CEA), medial amygdalar nucleus (MEA), lateral hypothalamic area (LHA), parasubthalamic nucleus (PSTN), pontin reticular nucleus (caudal part) (PRNc), and parabrachial nucleus, (PB) were commonly labeled. In addition, chemical isotope labeling-assisted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (CIL-LC-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR spectroscopy) were performed to reveal the fatty acids and metabolism of the ELGs, reflecting the relationship between pheromone secretion and brain network. Overall, our results revealed basic properties and the input neural networks for ELGs in both genders of mice, providing a structural basis to analyze the diverse functions of ELGs.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To assess long-term follow-up evaluations for the treatment of femoral intertrochanteric fractures with the "three-finger method" assisted by proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA). METHODS: From January 2010 to January 2017, 123 patients were selected and followed for the treatment of femoral intertrochanteric fractures with PFNA assisted by the "three-finger method" (application of the index finger, middle finger, and ring finger in the process of surgery to assist PFNA). There were 56 male patients and 67 female patients aged 52-93 years with an average age of 75.6 years, and 88 cases were due to a fall and 35 due to a traffic accident injury. The femoral necks were fixed with PFNA assisted by the "three-finger method" applying the following procedure: traction reduction, determining the incision, inserting the needle, and placing screw. The Harris hip score, postoperative complications, hip pain and function status were statistically analyzed to evaluate the surgical efficacy and to discuss the surgical technique of the "three-finger method" assisted by PFNA. RESULTS: According to the Harris scoring criteria, patients were followed for 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 years, and the good outcomes of patients were recorded. The excellent and good rate of 87% was the highest in the second year of follow-up. Then, the rate decreased following the eighth year of follow-up. The excellent and good rate of 82.7% was the lowest. The patients with incisions healed well, there were no instances of fat liquefaction or infection. There were three cases of effusion, the rate was 2.4%. The secretions were cultured, and no bacterial growth was found. After treatment of the wound, it healed, and the spiral blade used for the femoral head did not wear out. There was one case of femoral head necrosis. There was no significant correlation between hip pain and sex and age (P > 0.05), and the function of the hip joint was significantly correlated with the age of the patients (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The "three-finger method" in the process of surgery to assist PFNA for the treatment of patients with intertrochanteric fractures of the femur simplified the operation steps, reduced the operation difficulty, shortened the operation time, improved the operation efficiency, and reduced the incidence of postoperative complications.

It has been identified that arginine vasopressin (AVP), vasopressin receptor 2(V2R), and the aquaporin 2 (AQP2) signaling pathway in the inner ear play important roles in hearing and balance functions through regulating the endolymph equilibrium; however, the contributions of this signaling pathway to the development of motion sickness are unclear. The present study was designed to investigate whether the activation of the AVP-V2R-AQP2 signaling pathway in the inner ear is involved in the induction of motion sickness and whether mozavaptan, a V2R antagonist, could reduce motion sickness. We found that both rotatory stimulus and intraperitoneal AVP injection induced conditioned taste aversion (a confirmed behavioral index for motion sickness) in rats and activated the AVP-V2R-AQP2 signaling pathway with a responsive V2R downregulation in the inner ears, and AVP perfusion in cultured epithelial cells from rat endolymphatic sacs induced similar changes in this pathway signaling. Vestibular training, V2R antagonist mozavaptan, or PKA inhibitor H89 blunted these changes in the V2R-AQP2 pathway signaling while reducing rotatory stimulus- or DDAVP (a V2R agonist)-induced motion sickness in rats and dogs. Therefore, our results suggest that activation of the inner ear AVP-V2R-AQP2 signaling pathway is potentially involved in the development of motion sickness; thus, mozavaptan targeting AVP V2Rs in the inner ear may provide us with a new application option to reduce motion sickness. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: Motion sickness affects many people traveling or working. In the present study our results showed that activation of the inner ear arginine vasopressin-vaspopressin receptor 2 (V2R)-aquaporin 2 signaling pathway was potentially involved in the development of motion sickness and that blocking V2R with mozavaptan, a V2R antagonist, was much more effective in reducing motion sickness in both rat and dog; therefore, we demonstrated a new mechanism to underlie motion sickness and a new candidate drug to reduce motion sickness.

ABSTRACT

Objective::To establish HPLC fingerprints of Aurantii Fructus and its processed products, and to quantitatively analyze the contents of four flavonoids in these products. Method::HPLC was employed with Inertsil ODS-3 C18 column (4.6 mm×250 mm, 5 μm), the mobile phase of acetonitrile-0.1%phosphoric acid aqueous solution for gradient elution, the detection wavelength of 283 nm, and the flow rate of 1.0 mL·min-1. HPLC fingerprints of raw products, stir-fried bran products and processing products of Aurantii Fructus were established. Similarity evaluation and cluster analysis were used to analyze the chromatographic data. At the same time, the contents of narirutin, naringin, hesperidin and neohesperidin were determined. Result::HPLC fingerprints of Aurantii Fructus and its processed products were established, taking naringin as the reference peak, 8, 15, 11 common peaks were demarcated for raw products, stir-fried bran products, processing products, respectively, the similarities of fingerprints were >0.95.Contents of the above four flavonoids in raw products were 0.574 7%, 5.986 3%, 0.302 2%and 3.574 7%, respectively. After processing, the contents of these four components in stir-fried bran products turned into 0.948 4%, 5.103 4%, 0.549 3%and 3.533 7%, their contents in processing products turned into 0.605 3%, 4.762 3%, 0.404 7%and 3.264 9%, respectively. Conclusion::The HPLC fingerprint of Aurantii Fructus changes significantly before and after processing. The contents of four flavonoids change to a certain extent before and after processing. The order of contents of narirutin and hesperidin in samples was stir-fried bran products>processing products>raw products, while the order of contents of naringin and neohesperidin was raw products>stir-fried bran products>processing products.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To observe the short-term and long-term clinical effect of modified Wufu Maxin Guijiang decoction treatment to chronic nonspecific low back pain (NLBP) with syndrome of cold dampness and stasis, and to investigate the mechanism of anti-inflammatory and analgesia. Method: One hundred and nineteen eligible patients were randomly divided into control group (59 cases) and observation group (60 cases) by random number table. Patients in control group got acupuncture treatment and pilates. Based on the treatment in control group, patients in observation received additional modified Wufu Maxin Guijiang decoction, 1 dose/day. The course of treatment was 6 weeks in both groups. Before and after treatment, scores of short-form McGill pain questionnaire (SF-MPQ), Oswestry disability index (ODI), Japanese orthopaedic association (JOA) and syndrome of cold dampness were graded. After treatment, the patients made self efficacy assessment. Levels of thromboxane 2 (TXB2), 6-Keto-PGFla, tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukins-1β(IL-1β) were detected both before and after treatment. Result: After treatment, the rank sum test showed that the clinical efficacy in observation group was better than that in control group (Z=2.226, PZ=2.104, PPP2, TNF-α and IL-1β and TXB2/6-Keto-PGFla were lower than those in control group (Pla was higher than that in control group (PConclusion: Based on the acupuncture treatment and pilates, modified Wufu Maxin Guijiang decoction in the treatment of chronic NLBP can ameliorate symptoms of pain, promote the recovery of function, and enhance activity of daily living in a short term, reduce the recurrence and stabilize the disease condition in a long term, with certain effects of anti-inflammatory and analgesia.

ABSTRACT

To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of external therapies of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) combined with sodium hyaluronate(SH) injected in articular cavity therapy on knee osteoarthritis(KOA). The following databases such as CNKI, WanFang, VIP, CBM, PubMed and Medline were researched to collect the randomized controlled trails on external therapies of TCM combined with sodium hyaluronate injected in articular cavity therapy on KOA. The selection of studies, assessment of methodological quality and data extraction were performed independently by two researchers. The methodological quality was assessed by using the Cochrane system evaluation methodology and Meta-analysis were performed by using Cochrane Collaboration's the RevMan 5.3 software. Forteen studies involving 1 449 patients were included. All of the trails were not adequate enough in methodological quality. Meta-analysis indicated that compared with control group, external therapies of TCM combined with sodium hyaluronate injected in articular cavity could raise effectiv rate(<0.000 01) and cure-rate(<0.000 01), improve Lysholm score(=0.003) and reduce VAS score(<0.000 1). But two groups have no difference in Womac score (=0.13).Compared with the treatment with sodium hyaluronate injected in articular cavity, external therapies of TCM combined with sodium hyaluronate injected in articular cavity, a promising treatment options, can be complementary advantages, improve the clinical curativ effect. But it still needs low risk and high quality clinical trials to verify.

ABSTRACT

Aim To investigate the effects of salidro-side on oxygen glucose deprivation/reoxygenation ( OGD/R) injury in human umbilical vein cells ( HU-VECs ) and the possible mechanism. Methods OGD/R model was built after the density of cell growth reached 80% ~85%. The OGD time point was deter-mined by MTT method to detect cell viability;LDH ac-tivity detection was used to explore the best dosage sol-ubility;NO content assay was applied to determine the best drug solubility, the degree of apoptosis was detec-ted by Annexin V/PI, and the expression of P-selectin was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results MTT detection determined that the time point of OGD was 16 h; LDH activity detection and NO content detection showed that the best efficacy of salidroside was 10μmol · L-1 . Compared with control group, Annexin V/PI detection showed that the apoptotic rate increased significantly ( P <0.01 ) after OGD/R, and the ex-pression of P-selectin in OGD/R group obviously in-creased ( P <0.01 ) . Compared with OGD/R group,the expression of P-selectin obviously declined ( P <0.05 ) , while the cell apoptotic rate increased ( P <0.05) after the administration. Conclusions Salidro-side may protect HUVEC cells from OGD/R injury and its mechanism may be related to related to the down-regulation of P-selectin and the inhibition of the pro-duction of inflammation.
