ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to verify the adequacy of affordances in the home environment of children at risk of developmental delay and to identify factors associated with their frequency. METHODS: The cross-sectional study included 97 families who responded to the Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development - Infant Scale (AHEMD-IS) for 3-18 months (n=63), or AHEMD - Self-Report (AHEMD-SR) for 18-42 months (n=34). The Mann-Whitney U test was used to identify the differences between the frequencies of affordances between the groups. Multiple linear regression was used to verify the association between the child's sex, mother's marital status, education, socioeconomic level, child and mother's ages, house residents' number, per capita income, and AHEMD scores (α=0.05). RESULTS: The home affordances' frequency in the AHEMD-IS ranged from less than adequate to excellent, while in the AHEMD-SR, the highest predominance was medium. The offer of stimuli in the AHEMD-IS was significantly higher. Higher socioeconomic level and house residents' number were associated with greater affordances. CONCLUSIONS: The higher the socioeconomic level and house residents' number, the greater the affordances in the homes of children at risk of delay. It is necessary to provide families with some alternatives to make their home environments richer in affordances that favor child development.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the psychometric properties of the SAT-PRO/Br through the observation of structural and concurrent validity, internal consistency and stability. Method: The sample of this cross-sectional study was consecutive, non-probabilistic, consisting of 128 elderly with lower limb amputation, with unilateral amputation and who used the prosthesis for at least one year. The psychometric properties were evaluated through structural validity (Comparative Fit Index- CFI, Tucker-Lewis Index-TLI, Root Means Square Error of Approximation-RMSEA and Standardized Root Mean Residual-SRMR), concurrent validity using the Brazilian version of Trinity Amputation and Prosthesis Experience Scales - Revised (TAPES-R), in addition to the internal consistency of the items by Cronbach's alpha and stability by the Intraclass Correlacion Coefficient (ICC). Results: The SAT-PRO/Br and TAPES-R showed a strong correlation in relation to concurrent validity. Stability ranged from 0.85 to 0.91 across the ICC. The fit model indices showed CFI values of 0.991, TLI of 0.989, RMSEA of 0.045 and SRMR of 0.074. A good internal consistency was observed with a total Cronbach's alpha of 0.91. Conclusion: The psychometric properties of this study on the SAT-PRO/Br lead to the conclusion that this version is valid, reliable and has good internal consistency and stability to be applied to elderly Brazilians with lower limb amputees.

ABSTRACT

Método: Revisão sistemática, foram selecionadas as bases de dados MedLine (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System on-line) via Pubmed, Web of Science, Scopus (Elsevier), PsycINFO - APA Psycnet (American Psychological Association) e SPORTDiscus.

Objective: The objective of the present study was to identify the methods used to determine energy consumption of people with lower limb amputation. Methods: Systematic review, MedLine (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System online) databases were selected via Pubmed, Web of Science, Scopus (Elsevier), PsycINFO - APA Psycnet (American Psychological Association) and SPORTDiscus . Eligibility criteria: Original, observational, experimental studies, which addressed the topic of energy consumption in lower limb amputees, available in full, in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Results: The studies used mainly the assessment of oxygen consumption (VO2) using the Ergospirometry test and the Physiological Cost Index through Heart Rate. However, some researches used the Subjective Scale of Perception of Effort, the Scale of self-reported fitness and a questionnaire related to the perception of the ability to walk. Conclusion: VO2 is the most reliable variable for assessing energy consumption, however, tests with direct measures can be more difficult to apply, due to recurrent changes to amputation, which may compromise the result, thus the use of variables that estimate energy consumption. through indirect measures it becomes a valid alternative, but it is necessary to pay attention to the use of heart rate in populations that use some type of medication that may alter or compromise the result.

ABSTRACT

The satisfaction of amputees with their prostheses is essential for the success of prosthetic rehabilitation, which justifies the need for instruments to be used by health professionals. One of the instruments that allows this assessment to be carried out is the SAT-PRO questionnaire, developed and applied in Canada, for elderly amputees of lower limb, nevertheless in Brazil it is not yet translated, adapted or validated. Objective: The aim of this study is to carry out the translation of the SAT-PRO into Portuguese and to present a culturally adapted version to be applied to elderly Brazilians. Method: The translation and adaptation were carried out in five stages, followed by a sixth stage, in which the content validation and reliability was verified. Results: During the translation and adaptation process, some ambiguities were found that were overcome by making consensual adjustments to the questionnaire. The content validity index of the items varied between 0.85 and 1 and the scale validity index was 0.98. The total value of Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.89. Conclusion: The process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the SAT-PRO revealed that it is adapted to the cultural reality of elderly Brazilians with lower limb amputation, also showing good content validity and reliability.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The Trinity Amputation and Prosthesis Experience Scales-Revised assesses adjustment to amputation and to using a prosthesis and considers psychosocial adjustment, activity restriction, satisfaction with the prosthesis, and other aspects related to health and physical activities, including residual and phantom limb pain. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to assess the semantic equivalence of the Trinity Amputation and Prosthesis Experience Scales-Revised when translated into Brazilian Portuguese. STUDY DESIGN: Qualitative study. METHODS: The process was conducted in five stages: translation of the questionnaire into Brazilian Portuguese; development of a first consensual version in Brazilian Portuguese; appraisal of the translation by an expert committee; back-translation; and semantics assessment of the instrument. For semantic evaluation, the translated and adapted Brazilian Portuguese versions were applied to a convenience sample of 10 individuals. RESULTS: The translated instrument showed a high degree of comprehension within the target population, as it was observed all questions from Part I and II were score 4 or higher on an Ordinal Scale ranging from 0 to 5. CONCLUSION: The Brazilian version of Trinity Amputation and Prosthesis Experience Scales-Revised has a satisfactory verbal comprehension and is now ready for assessment of its psychometric properties. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The process of semantic evaluation of the Brazilian version of the Trinity Amputation and Prosthesis Experience Scales-Revised makes available to health professionals and researchers who work with people with amputations initial information on cross-cultural adaptation and degree of comprehension of this scale.

ABSTRACT

Silva, FCd, Iop, RdR, Andrade, A, Costa, VP, Gutierres Filho, PJB, and Silva, Rd. Effects of physical exercise on the expression of microRNAs: A systematic review 34(1): 270-280, 2020-Studies have detected changes in the expression of miRNAs after physical exercise, which brings new insight into the molecular control of adaptation to exercise. Therefore, the objective of the current systematic review of experimental and quasiexperimental studies published in the past 10 years was to assess evidence related to acute effects, chronic effects, and both acute and chronic effects of physical exercise on miRNA expression in humans, as well as its functions, evaluated in serum, plasma, whole blood, saliva, or muscle biopsy. For this purpose, the following electronic databases were selected: MEDLINE by Pubmed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and also a manual search in references of the selected articles to April 2017. Experimental and quasiexperimental studies were included. Results indicate that, of the 345 studies retrieved, 40 studies met the inclusion criteria and two articles were included as a result of the manual search. The 42 studies were analyzed, and it can be observed acute and chronic effects of physical exercises (aerobic and resistance) on the expression of several miRNAs in healthy subjects, athletes, young, elderly and in patients with congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus type 2 associated with morbid obesity, prediabetic, and patients with intermittent claudication. It is safe to assume that miRNA changes, both in muscle tissues and bodily fluids, are presumably associated with the benefits induced by acute and chronic physical exercise. Thus, a better understanding of changes in miRNAs as a response to physical exercise might contribute to the development of miRNAs as therapeutic targets for the improvement of exercise capacity in individuals with any given disease. However, additional studies are necessary to draw accurate conclusions.

ABSTRACT

Gait in cerebral palsy (CP) has been the target of conservative interventions as hippotherapy. However, the effects of this therapy on the promotion and functional adaptation of gait have been little systematized in the literature. Objective: To analyze the evidence of the effectiveness of hippotherapy in the gait of children with CP comparing to noninvasive conservative therapies of clinical trials. Methods: A systematic review of clinical trials was performed with search indatabases Cinahl, Cochrane, Embase, Google Scholar, Lilacs, Lisa (ProQuest), PEDro, PsycINFO (APA), Pubmed and Scopus), with no flters. It was included clinical trials comparing hippotherapy plus conventional therapy (non-invasive conservative therapies) versus conventional therapy that assessed gait parameters in children with CP diagnosis and age ≤ 12 years old. The studies were examined as methodological quality by the Physiotherapy Evidence Database Scale. Results: Of the 668 studies identifed, six trials were selected. Of these, the total sample consisted of 283 children (151 children were allocated to the experimental group (hippotherapy) and 132 children, in the control group (conventional therapies). Four studies presented high methodological quality and two studies, low quality. Regarding the improvement of gait parameters, experimental group and control group improved, however, the experimental group presented signifcant improvement in the analysis of the E dimension (walk-jump-run) of the gross motor function measure instrument, reduction of muscular asymmetry during walking and increase in walking speed. Conclusion: The systematic review, suggests that the treatment with association of hippotherapy and conventional therapy promotes improvement of gait of children with CP.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This study evaluated the moods states of professional futsal players during the second phase of the Brazilian Futsal League 2012. The sample was composed of 15 male athletes and the instrument used for evaluation was the Brunel Mood Scale. The results show that there were significant differences (p<0.05) in mood states on the previous day, pre-game and post-game. The team presented mood states corresponding to the iceberg profile in almost all times: constant and high vigor, except for the post-game defeats, and fatigue with low levels, which were elevated in the post-game. It was concluded that mood states can positively or negatively interfere with team sports performance.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This essay article addresses some fundamentals that look at play as a mediator of psychomotor practice and the centrality of the body-in-relation playful dimension, framed in a dialectic between the real body and the imaginary body. Through an exposition of ideas, which are based on different areas of knowledge, we present some guidelines for health professionals who intend to act in a therapeutic way or assist with child development, using play-in-relation as intervention mediator. After brief considerations about psychomotricity as practice-in-relation, we equate the genesis of play-in-relation and its theoretical-practical grounds, explaining the importance of sensory-motor experiences (perceptive-praxis) and representations (imaginary-symbolic) in the psychocorporeal and psychomotor development of the child. As final considerations, we present some reflections necessary to frame play in therapeutic intervention, reinforcing the importance of establishing a quality relationship. In general, we approach a set of ideas that enables therapists - regardless of whether they are psychomotor therapists, occupational therapists, or others - to reflect on how to request function, sensoriality, and the imaginary to favor the processes of psychic integration, when using play-in-relation as mediator of their intervention.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Given the relative importance of cognitive impairment, there was considerable interest in identifying the cognitive profile of PD patients, in order to ensure specific and appropriate therapeutic interventions. PURPOSE: To determine the effects of physical exercise programs on cognitive function in PD patients, compared with the control group. DATA SOURCES: Medline, Cochrane, Scopus, PEDro and Web of Science (last searched in September 2016). STUDY SELECTION: Randomized clinical trials examining the effects of physical exercise programs and cognitive function in PD patients. Nine studies fulfilled the selection criteria and were included in this review. DATA EXTRACTION: Characteristics of the publication, characteristics of the participants, test used for cognitive screening, cognitive domain assessed, tools used to assess cognitive function, characteristics of the experimental intervention, characteristics of the control group, mean results and standard deviation of function cognitive. The PEDro score was used to evaluate methodological quality. DATA SYNTHESIS: Most eligible studies showed good methodological quality based on the PEDro scale. Studies have shown that adapted tango for PD patients, cognitive training combined with motor training, and treadmill training promote the preservation or improvement of cognitive function in PD patients. LIMITATIONS: The diversity of cognitive tests used to assess cognitive function and the high heterogeneity identified between the physical exercise programs. CONCLUSIONS: Physical exercise programs promote positive and significant effects on global cognitive function, processing speed, sustained attention and mental flexibility in PD patients, at a mild to moderate stage for patients with a 6-year clinical diagnosis of PD. However, treadmill training performed 3 times a week for about 60 minutes and for a period of 24 weeks produced larger improvements in cognition.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to determine the expression of blood microRNAs (miRNAs) involved in PD in humans. For this purpose the following electronic databases were selected: MEDLINE by Pubmed, Scopus and Web of Science. The search strategy included the proposed descriptors in the Medical Subject Headings. There were no restrictions with respect to the language of the publication. In the study selection two independent reviewers initially evaluated studies that were identified by the search strategy according to titles and abstracts. The reviewers evaluated (also unassisted) the complete articles and selected studies according to the eligibility criteria specified above. Studies that were not in accordance with the adopted criteria were excluded according to the boundaries imposed by the search strategy. The following data were extracted from the selected studies: Publication identification, location where the study was conducted, study design, the sample size, the participants' characteristics, the miRNAs involved in PD, the miRNA detection and analysis method, and the type of miRNA dysregulation in PD. Through this systematic review of the literature published over the last 10 years, the expression of 91 different miRNAs were analyzed in the context of PD, with the expression of 39 of these miRNAs differing significantly between individuals with PD and healthy controls and/or between treated and untreated patients with PD. The miRNAs were extracted from mononuclear cells, leukocytes, plasma, serum and peripheral blood, and the majority of the studies used reverse transcriptionquantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), which is considered to be the gold standard for miRNA analysis.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the curricular aspects related to inclusive education treatedin the discipline of adapted motor activity or similar in Physical Education training of theState of Santa Catarina. Participants were randomly selected (n = 17) in 12 Higher EducationInstitutions in Santa Catarina. Data were collected through semi-structured interview and questionnaire. The categorical data were analyzed using content analysis and numerical data using descriptive statistics. It can be concluded that participants realize that the curricular aspects have sought training for inclusive action, but through isolated teachers actions in poor physical, human and methodologics resources, thus generating weak nesses affecting university education for inclusive action. One can also conclude that the participants understand that the disciplines in the area of adapted prevalently present a theoretical-practical and technical-therapeutic character teaching and are taught by professors relatively new in university teaching, qualified in stricto sensu level andwithout students with disabilities.
