ABSTRACT

In this study, we have presented a novel probabilistic model called the neutrosophic Burr-III distribution, designed for applications in neutrosophic surface analysis. Neutrosophic analysis allows for the incorporation of vague and imprecise information, reflecting the reality that many real-world problems involve ambiguous data. This ability to handle vagueness can lead to more robust and realistic models especially in situation where classical models fall short. We have also explored the neutrosophic Burr-III distribution in order to deal with the ambiguity and vagueness in the data where the classical Burr-III distribution falls short. This distribution offers valuable insights into various reliability properties, moment expressions, order statistics, and entropy measures, making it a versatile tool for analyzing complex data. To assess the practical relevance of our proposed distribution, we applied it to real-world data sets and compared its performance against the classical Burr-III distribution. The findings revealed that the neutrosophic Burr-III distribution outperformed than the classical Burr-III distribution in capturing the underlying data characteristics, highlighting its potential as a superior modeling toolin various fields.

ABSTRACT

In industrial and engineering fields including lamination, melt-spinning, continuous casting, and fiber spinning, the flow caused by a continually moving surface is significant. Therefore, the problem of ternary hybrid nanofluid flow over a moving surface is studied. This study explores the stability and statistical analyses of the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) forced flow of the ternary hybrid nanofluid with melting heat transfer phenomena. The impacts of viscous dissipation, Joule heating, and thermal radiation are also included in the flow. Different fluids including ternary hybrid nanofluid, hybrid nanofluids, and nanofluids with base fluid ethylene glycol (EG) are examined and compared, where magnetite (Fe3O4) and silica (SiO2) are taken as the magnetic nanomaterials while silver (Ag) is chosen as the nonmagnetic nanomaterial. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are estimated through regression analysis. By employing similarity transformations, the governing partial differential equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations. Then, the least square method is applied to solve the equations analytically. Dual solutions are established in a particular range of moving parameterλ. Due to this, a stability test is implemented to find the stable solution by using the bvp4c function in MATLAB software. It is found that the first solution is the stable one while the second is unstable. The use of ternary hybrid nanomaterials improves the heat transport rate. The increasing values of the Eckert number enlarge the heat passage. The fluid velocity and temperature profiles for nonmagnetic nanomaterials are higher than that of magnetic nanomaterials. The uniqueness and originality of this study stems from the fact that, to the best of the authors' knowledge, it is the first to use this combination technique.

ABSTRACT

Cellulose is the basic component of lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) making it a suitable substrate for bioethanol fermentation. Cellulolytic and ethanologenic bacteria possess cellulases that convert cellulose to glucose, which in turn yields ethanol subsequently. Heterotermes indicola is a subterranean termite that causes destructive damage by consuming wooden structures of infrastructure, LCB products, etc. Prospectively, the study envisioned the screening of cellulolytic and ethanologenic bacteria from the termite gut. Twenty six bacterial strains (H1-H26) based on varied colonial morphologies were isolated. Bacterial cellulolytic activity was tested biochemically. Marked gas production in the form of bubbles (0.1-4 cm) in Durham tubes was observed in H3, H7, H13, H15, H17, H21, and H22. Sugar degradation of all isolates was indicated by pink to maroon color development with the tetrazolium salt. Hallow zones (0.42-11 mm) by Congo red staining was exhibited by all strains except H2, H7, H8, and H19. Among the 26 bacterial isolates, 12 strains were identified as efficient cellulolytic bacteria. CMCase activity and ethanol titer of all isolates varied from 1.30 ± 0.03 (H13) to 1.83 ± 0.01 (H21) umol/mL/min and 2.36 ± 0.01 (H25) to 7.00 ± 0.01 (H21) g/L, respectively. Likewise, isolate H21 exhibited an ethanol yield of 0.40 ± 0.10 g/g with 78.38 ± 2.05% fermentation efficiency. Molecular characterization of four strains, Staphylococcus sp. H13, Acinetobacter baumanni H17, Acinetobacter sp. H21, and Acinetobacter nosocomialis H22, were based on the maximum cellulolytic index and the ethanol yield. H. indicola harbor promising and novel bacteria with a natural cellulolytic tendency for efficient bioconversion of LCB to value-added products. Hence, the selected cellulolytic bacteria can become an excellent addition for use in enzyme purification, composting, and production of biofuel at large.

ABSTRACT

Asking direct questions in face to face surveys about sensitive traits is an intricate issue. One of the solutions to this issue is the randomized response technique (RRT). Being the most widely used indirect questioning technique to obtain truthful data on sensitive traits in survey sampling RRT has been applied in a variety of fields including behavioral science, socio-economic, psychological, epidemiology, biomedical, criminology, data masking, public health engineering, conservation studies, ecological studies and many others. This paper aims at exploring the methods to subsidize the randomized response technique through additional information relevant to the parameter of interest. Specifically, we plan to contribute by proposing more efficient hybrid estimators compared to existing estimator based on (Kuk, 1990) [31] family of randomized response models. The proposed estimators are based on the methodology of incorporating the pertinent information, available on the basis of either historical records or expert opinion. Specifically, in case of availability of auxiliary information, the regression-cum-ratio estimator is found to be the best to further enhance the estimation through (Kuk, 1990) [31] model while the (Thompson, 1968) [49] shrinkage estimation is observed to be yielding more precise and accurate estimator of sensitive proportion. The findings in this study signify the importance of the proposed methodology. Additionally, to support the mathematical findings, a detailed numerical investigation to evaluate the comparative performances is also conducted. Based on performance analysis, overwhelming evidences are witnessed in the favor of proposed strategies.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To determine the association of GSTM1 and GSTT1 polymorphisms with oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). STUDY DESIGN: A case-control study. Place and Duration of the Study: Department of Human Genetics and Molecular Biology, University of Health Sciences, Lahore and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, de Montmorency, College of Dentistry/ Punjab Dental Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, from 1st April 2019 to 31st April 2020. METHODOLOGY: OSF patients were diagnosed with different clinical staging of mouth opening by Vernier caliper with the help of a professional dentist in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial, de Montmorency, College of Dentistry, Lahore. One hundred and eight blood samples of OSF patients and 108 samples of normal controls were collected. Genomic DNA was obtained from whole-blood extraction. Multiplex PCR amplification using GSTM1, GSTT1, and ß -Globin gene primers was performed. RESULTS: GSTM1 and GSTT1 null genotypes frequencies were found in 43.5% (47/108) and 13.9% (15/108) of controls, whereas 54.6% (59/108) and 25.9% (28/108) of OSF patients, respectively. OSF patients had a greater frequency rate of GSTM1 and GSTT1 null genotypes than controls [OR 1.56, 95% CI 0.91-2.67 (p=0.13)] and [OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.08-4.34 (p=0.04)], respectively. The GSTT1 genotype was found statistically significant with OSF (p=0.05), and risk was also determined. The cumulative effect of null genotypes of GSTM1/GSTT1 did not show any association with the controls and in OSF patients. Proportions of active and null alleles of the patient group were; 86.1%/13.9%; and in control, it was 92.6%/7.4% (OR = 2.01; CI: 0.82-4.97; p=0.18), respectively. CONCLUSION: The study determined a statistically significant association of GSTT1 gene polymorphism with OSF. KEY WORDS: Oral submucous fibrosis, GSTM1, GSTT1, Gene polymorphisms, Genetic risk.

ABSTRACT

The adequate elevation of CO2 concentrations (e [CO2]) could not be assessed by constrained analysis of comparative experimental study for optimum plant growth and yield with improved fruit quality owing to the lack of conjunctive investigation of plant parametric responses. Instead, the principal component analysis (PCA) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) assessed and quantified the parametric plant responses to identify the adequate level of e [CO2] for optimum plant growth and yield. In this study, tomato plants were grown under an ambient CO2 (a [CO2], 500 µmol mol-1) and three e [CO2] (700, 850 and 1000 µmol mol-1): named EC700, EC850 and EC1000, respectively, in autumn-winter (AW) 2020 and spring summer (SS) 2021 growing seasons to investigate and evaluate the plant parametric responses under e [CO2]. The tomato plant's response with maximum transportability of biomass to fruits was observed under 700 µmol mol-1. The plant height, stem diameter and LAI were enhanced compared to a [CO2] at the optimum level under 1000 µmol mol-1 (by 50.53, 20.98 and 44.44%) and 700 µmol mol-1 (by 22.41, 12.09 and 26.88%) in Aw 2020; Ss 2021, respectively. The optimum yield was increased under 700 µmol mol-1 by 73.95% and 55.58% in Aw 2020; Ss 2021, respectively. EC700 was ranked as a priority by TOPSIS with 0.632 and 0.694 plant response performance index in Aw 2020; Ss 2021, respectively, to get optimum tomato growth, yield, water use efficiency and fruit quality. The results of this study are beneficial for commercial greenhouse crop production by fumigating the adequate level of e [CO2], to reduce the cost of CO2 fertigation, enhance the yield and save the water quantity.

ABSTRACT

Wireless body area sensor networks (WBASNs) have received growing attention from industry and academia due to their exceptional potential for patient monitoring systems that are equipped with low-power wearable and implantable biomedical sensors under communications standards such as IEEE 802.15.4-2015 and IEEE 802.15.6-2012. The goal of WBASNs is to enhance the capabilities of wireless patient monitoring systems in terms of data accuracy, reliability, routing, channel access, and the data communication of sensors within, on and around the human body. The huge scope of challenges related to WBASNs has led to various research publications and industrial experiments. In this paper, a survey is conducted for the recent state-of-art in the context of medium access control (MAC) and routing protocols by considering the application requirements of patient monitoring systems. Moreover, we discuss the open issues, lessons learned, and challenges for these layers to provide a source of motivation for the upcoming design and development in the domain of WBASNs. This survey will be highly useful for the 6th generation (6G) networks; it is expected that 6G will provide efficient and ubiquitous connectivity to a huge number of IoT devices, and most of them will be sensor-based. This survey will further clarify the QoS requirement part of the 6G networks in terms of sensor-based IoT.

ABSTRACT

Directive, acid and reactive dyes are the carcinogenic dyes which have complex structures and difficult to remove from the industrial wastewater. In this study, coal fly ash (CFA) was modified with HCl and NaOH solution and used for the removal of direct fast scarlet 4BS, direct sky blue 5B, acid navy blue R, and reactive turquoise blue KN-G dyes. Laboratory experiments were carried out to analyze the performance of modified coal fly ash (MCFA) to check the removal efficiency and adsorption capacity of dyes. The maximum removal efficiency of direct fast scarlet 4BS and direct sky blue 5B were recorded 96.03% and 93.820%, respectively using 0.05 g adsorbent dosage at 100 mg/L initial concentration. The results of MCFA were compared with carbon black, chitosan, starch, zeolite and unmodified coal fly ash (UMCFA) at lower dosage 0.05 g and higher dosage 0.4 g. Adsorption isotherm were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich model by different dyes concentrations, the result stated that Freundlich and Langmuir model (±0.9918, ±0.9974) was fitted by chemisorption and physisorption methods for all four dyes. Adsorption kinetic were also determined by Pseudo-first-order and Pseudo-second-order at different contact times with dye molecules and adsorbent active sites, and the results showed that the adsorption behaviors of all four dyes were described better by pseudo-second-order kinetics than pseudo-first-order kinetics. Recommended dosage of modified fly ash is between 10 ‱ to 20 ‱ for simulated textile industrial waste water and regeneration temperature is 300 â„ƒ.

ABSTRACT

Heterosis refers to the increase in biomass, stature, fertility, and other characters that impart superior performance to the F1 progeny over genetically diverged parents. The manifestation of heterosis brought an economic revolution to the agricultural production and seed sector in the last few decades. Initially, the idea was exploited in cross-pollinated plants, but eventually acquired serious attention in self-pollinated crops as well. Regardless of harvesting the benefits of heterosis, a century-long discussion is continued to understand the underlying basis of this phenomenon. The massive increase in knowledge of various fields of science such as genetics, epigenetics, genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics persistently provide new insights to understand the reasons for the expression of hybrid vigor. In this review, we have gathered information ranging from classical genetic studies, field experiments to various high-throughput omics and computational modelling studies in order to understand the underlying basis of heterosis. The modern-day science has worked significantly to pull off our understanding of heterosis yet leaving open questions that requires further research and experimentation. Answering these questions would possibly equip today's plant breeders with efficient tools and accurate choices to breed crops for a sustainable future.

BACKGROUND: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a bone marrow malignancy having multiple molecular pathways driving its progress. In recent years, the main causes of AML considered all over the world are genetic variations in cancerous cells. The RUNX1 and FLT3 genes are necessary for the normal hematopoiesis and differentiation process of hematopoietic stem cells into mature blood cells, therefore they are the most common targets for point mutations resulting in AML. METHODS: We screened 32 CN-AML patients for FLT3-ITD (by Allele-specific PCR) and RUNX1 mutations (by Sanger sequencing). The FLT3 mRNA expression was assessed in all AML patients and its subgroups. RESULTS: Eight patients (25%) carried RUNX1 mutation (K83E) while three patients (9.37%) were found to have internal tandem duplications in FLT3 gene. The RUNX1 mutation data were correlated with clinical parameters and FLT3 gene expression profile. The RUNX1 mutations were observed to be significantly prevalent in older males. Moreover, RUNX1 and FLT3-mutated patients had lower complete remission rate, event-free survival rate, and lower overall survival rate than patients with wild-type RUNX1 and FLT3 gene. The RUNX1 and FLT3 mutant patients with up-regulated FLT3 gene expression showed even worse prognosis. Bradford Assay showed that protein concentration was down-regulated in RUNX1 and FLT3 mutants in comparison to RUNX1 and FLT3 wild-type groups. CONCLUSION: This study constitutes the first report from Pakistan reporting significant molecular mutation analysis of RUNX1 and FLT3 genes including FLT3 expression evaluation with follow-up. This provides an insight that aforementioned mutations are markers of poor prognosis but the study with a large AML cohort will be useful to further investigate their role in disease biology of AML.

ABSTRACT

Unwanted agricultural waste is largely comprised of lignocellulosic substrate which could be transformed into sugars. The production of bioethanol from garbage manifested an agreeable proposal towards waste management as well as energy causation. The goal of this work is to optimize parameters for generation of bioethanol through fermentation by different yeast strains while Saccharomyces cerevisiae used as standard strain. The low cost fermentable sugars from pomegranate peels waste (PPW) were obtained by hydrolysis with HNO3 (1 to 5%). The optimum levels of hydrolysis time and temperature were elucidated via RSM (CCD) ranging from 30 to 60 min and 50 to 100 °C respectively. The result shows that optimum values (g/L) for reducing sugars was 61.45 ± 0.01 while for total carbohydrates was 236 ± 0.01. These values were found when PPW was hydrolyzed with 3% HNO3, at 75 °C for one hour. The hydrolyzates obtained from the dilute HNO3 pretreated PPW yielded a maximum of 0.43 ± 0.04, 0.41 ± 0.03 g ethanol per g of reducing sugars by both Metchnikowia sp. Y31 and M. cibodasensis Y34 at day 7 of ethanologenic experiment. The current study exhibited that by fermentation of dilute HNO3 hydrolyzates of PPW could develop copious amount of ethanol by optimized conditions.

ABSTRACT

Maintaining oral hygiene is very important for a healthy life. Poor toothbrushing is one of the leading causes of tooth decay and other gum problems. Many people do not brush their teeth properly. There is very limited technology available to help in assessing the quality of toothbrushing. Human Activity Recognition (HAR) applications have seen a tremendous growth in recent years. In this work, we treat the adherence to standard toothbrushing practice as an activity recognition problem. We investigate this problem and collect experimental data using a brush-attached and a wearable sensor when the users brush their teeth. In this paper, we extend our previous dataset [1] for toothbrushing activity by including more experiments and adding a new sensor. We discuss and analyse the collection of the dataset. We use an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor to collect the time-series data for toothbrushing activity. We recruited 22 healthy participants and collected the data in two different settings when they brushed their teeth in five different locations using both electric and manual brushes. In total, we have recorded 120 toothbrushing sessions using both brush-attached sensor and the wearable sensor.

Pomegranate peels (PPW) as municipal waste is inexpensive biomass that could be a renewable source of sugars particularly rich in hemicellulosic contents. The subsequent conversion of available sugars in PPW can provide prospective strategy for cost-effective bioenergy production. In this study, an experimental setup based on CCD was implemented with the aim of bioconversion of biomass into bioethanol. The factors considered were Hydrochloric acid concentration (X1), the hydrolysis temperature (X2) and time (X3) for optimization with dilute Hydrochloric acid (HCl) saccharification. The present study investigates the optimised level of bioethanol synthesis from acid pre-treated PPW explained by RSM. Subsequently, three yeasts viz. Saccharomyces cerevisiae K7, Metschnikowia sp. Y31 and M. cibodasensis Y34 were utilized for fermentation of acid hydrolysed and detoxified feed stocks. Optimum values of reducing sugars 48.02 ± 0.02 (gL-1) and total carbohydrates 205.88 ± 0.13 (gL-1) were found when PPW was hydrolyzed with 1% HCl concentration at 100˚C of temperature for 30 min. Later on, fermentation of PPWH after detoxification with 2.5% activated charcoal. The significant ethanol (g ethanol/g of reducing sugars) yields after fermentation with Metschnikowia sp. Y31 and M. cibodasensis Y34 found to be 0.40 ± 0.03 on day 5 and 0.41 ± 0.02 on last day of experiment correspondingly. Saccharomyces cerevisiae K7 also produce maximum ethanol 0.40 ± 0.00 on last day of incubation utilizing the PPWH. The bioconversion of commonly available PPW into bioethanol as emphasize in this study could be a hopeful expectation and also cost-effective to meet today energy crisis.

ABSTRACT

Rat sarcoma gene (RAS) holds great importance in pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The activated mutations in Neuroblastoma rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (NRAS) and Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS) confers proliferative and survival signals, deliberating numerous effects on overall survival and progression free survival in AML patients. In this study thirty one (31) blood samples of adult newly diagnosed AML patients were collected to identify possible incidence of mutations through amplification of KRAS (exon 1 and 2) and NRAS gene (exon 1 and 2) using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Amplicons were then subjected to sequencing and were analyzed through Geneious Prime 2019. Five of thirty one (16.12%) patients had altered sites in either NRAS or KRAS. The NRAS mutations were observed in three AML patients (N = 3, 9.67%). A novel missense mutation NRAS-I36R (239 T > G) representing a substitution of single nucleotide basepair found in NRAS exon 1 while exon 2 was detected with heterozygous mutation NRAS-E63X (318G > T) and insertion (A), resulting in frameshift of the amino acid sequence and insertion of two nucleotide basepairs (TA) in two of the patients. KRAS mutations (N = 2, 6.45%) were found in exon 1 whereas no mutations in KRAS exon 2 were detected in our patient cohort. Mutation in KRAS Exon 1, KRAS-D30N (280G > A) was observed in two patients and one of them also had a novel heterozygous mutation KRAS-L16N (240G > C). In addition there was no statistically significant association of mutRAS gene of AML patients with several prognostic markers including age, gender, karyotyping, CD34 positivity, cytogenetic abnormalities, total leukocyte count, white blood cell count and French-American-British (FAB) classification. However, the presence of mutRAS gene were strongly associated (p = 0.001) with increased percentage of bone marrow blasts. The prevalence of mutations in correlation with clinical and hematological parameter is useful for risk stratification in AML patients.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we develop a new methodology that indicates that the use of correlated scrambling variables in the randomized response technique may play an important role in increasing the efficiency of an estimator of the population mean of a sensitive variable. Although it is clear analytically that the proposed estimator is more efficient than its existing competitors, we have investigated the magnitude of the gain in efficiency through simulation studies that involve both real secondary data from the health sciences, as well as artificial data. We also derive an estimator of the variance of the proposed estimator of mean and we study the coverage of 95% confidence intervals based on this variance estimator. An application using real primary data on smoking by university students is also included.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we develop a generator to propose new continuous lifetime distributions. Thanks to a simple transformation involving one additional parameter, every existing lifetime distribution can be rendered more flexible with our construction. We derive stochastic properties of our models, and explain how to estimate their parameters by means of maximum likelihood for complete and censored data, where we focus, in particular, on Type-II, Type-I and random censoring. A Monte Carlo simulation study reveals that the estimators are consistent. To emphasize the suitability of the proposed generator in practice, the two-parameter Fréchet distribution is taken as baseline distribution. Three real life applications are carried out to check the suitability of our new approach, and it is shown that our extension of the Fréchet distribution outperforms existing extensions available in the literature.

Consanguinity has highly complex and multifaceted aspects with sociocultural as well as biological debates on its pros and cons. The biological upshot of consanguinity includes the increased homozygosity, which results in manifold increased risk of genetic disorders at family and population levels. On the other hand, in addition to social, cultural, political, and economic benefits, consanguineous marriages have biological advantages at the population level. The consequence of consanguineous marriages is an upsurge in the number of homozygous diseased individuals with fewer chances of mating and reduced chances of survival, therefore evolutionarily confining the transmission of disease alleles to future generations and encouraging its elimination from a population. Protective effects of consanguinity have also been observed in a few diseases in different populations. Although attractive for many reasons, nonconsanguineous marriages will cause risk alleles to spread throughout the population, making most individuals carriers, and ultimately will resume the production of recessive diseases in subsequent generations. Although consanguinity, from an evolutionary point of view, is beneficial at the population level, it increases the risk of diseases in the very next generation. Presently, there is no treatment for most of the genetic disorders; we cannot opt for consanguinity for long-term benefits. Nonconsanguineous marriages are a better strategy by which we may delay disease manifestation for some generations until science offers a viable solution.

ABSTRACT

To study lifetimes of certain engineering processes, a lifetime model which can accommodate the nature of such processes is desired. The mixture models of underlying lifetime distributions are intuitively more appropriate and appealing to model the heterogeneous nature of process as compared to simple models. This paper is about studying a 3-component mixture of the Rayleigh distributionsin Bayesian perspective. The censored sampling environment is considered due to its popularity in reliability theory and survival analysis. The expressions for the Bayes estimators and their posterior risks are derived under different scenarios. In case the case that no or little prior information is available, elicitation of hyperparameters is given. To examine, numerically, the performance of the Bayes estimators using non-informative and informative priors under different loss functions, we have simulated their statistical properties for different sample sizes and test termination times. In addition, to highlight the practical significance, an illustrative example based on a real-life engineering data is also given.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, interesting improvements in [1] and [2] randomized response techniques have been proposed. The proposed randomized response technique applies Polya's urn process (see [3]) to obtain data from respondents. One of the suggested technique requires reporting the number of draws to observe a fixed number of cards of certain type. On the contrary, the number of cards of a certain type is to be reported in case of second proposed randomized response model. Based on the information collected through the suggested techniques, two different unbiased estimators of proportion of a sensitive attribute have been suggested. A detailed comparative simulation study has also been done. The results are also supported by means of a small scale survey.

ABSTRACT

This article considers unbiased estimation of mean, variance and sensitivity level of a sensitive variable via scrambled response modeling. In particular, we focus on estimation of the mean. The idea of using additive and subtractive scrambling has been suggested under a recent scrambled response model. Whether it is estimation of mean, variance or sensitivity level, the proposed scheme of estimation is shown relatively more efficient than that recent model. As far as the estimation of mean is concerned, the proposed estimators perform relatively better than the estimators based on recent additive scrambling models. Relative efficiency comparisons are also made in order to highlight the performance of proposed estimators under suggested scrambling technique.
