ABSTRACT

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: medico-social factors, influencing upon the date of visiting the doctor for the patients with ulcerative colitis manifestation have been analyzed. MATERIALS AND METHODS: under observation there were 38 patients with ulcerative colitis. The diagnosis was made on the availability of the typical symptoms and was confirmed by the endoscopy of the colon and histological biopsy of the mucosa samples. CONCLUSION: light and moderately severe colitis is still remaining not identified for a long time due to the lack of population's awareness about that disease as well as insufficient attention of the doctors to such problems. The belated visit to a doctor is more common for mail patients up to 30.,years old with high education.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: to analyze the expression of markers of apoptosis and proliferation in patients with ulcerative colitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: in 80 patients with ulcerative colitis the analysis of expression of apoptosis marker BAX and proliferation marker Ki-67, as well as the cell cycle regulator p53 in biopsy materials of the mucous membrane of the colon was carried out. THE RESULTS: decreased cell proliferative activity and increase of the apoptosis rate depending on the severity, the localization of the inflammatory process and its endoscopic activity were registered.

ABSTRACT

There are ultrasonographic signs of pancreatic edematous changes in early chronic alcohol-induced pancreatitis and signs of fibrous changes in the advanced (over 10-year) disease. Progressive chronic alcohol-induced pancreatitis is followed by decreased vascular wall antiaggregatory activity more commonly detected in pancreatic tissue fibrous changes, which should be borne in mind in choosing the optimum treatment policy for the patient.

ABSTRACT

Secretion of glycoproteins with protective mucus of large intestine was studied by means of estimation of the carbohydrate components in feces of patients with unspecific ulcerous colitis. A decrease in daily excretion with feces of glycoproteins and glycopeptides was detected in these patients as well as in the patients with chronic pancreatitis. Under conditions of unspecific ulcerous colitis distinct from chronic pancreatitis content of fucoglycoproteins, main chemical protectors of gastrointestinal tract, was primarily decreased. The defect of large intestine mucus might be responsible for impairment of barrier function of the intestinal mucose and to contribute to ulcer development.
