ABSTRACT

Introduction: The occurrence of dengue fever presents a considerable burden for public health care in developing countries. This study aims to validate APRI as predictor score for severity of dengue fever so that catastrophic events could be prevented, and early triage can save lives. Methods: The retrospective cross-sectional study was done on dengue positive patients from August to November 2023. APRI score was calculated for every patient at the time of admission. The primary end-point was non-complicated disease (Simple dengue fever) vs complicated disease (dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome). ROC curve was used to identify the role of APRI in prediction of dengue complication. Youden index was used to find the cut-off value of APRI along with sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios. To further evaluate the role of APRI score, patients were divided into two groups, patients with APRI score greater and lesser than cut-off value. The qualitative variables among two groups were compared by chi-square testing. The predictors of complicated dengue were first determined by univariate regression analysis and then confirmed by multivariate regression analysis. Results: The mean APRI score of 135 patients was 20.06 ± 6.31. AUC for APRI score was 0.93 (p < 0.0001) indicating that APRI score calculated at the time of admission is an excellent marker in determining the complicated dengue. The cut-off value for APRI score was 9.04 (sensitivity 84.91%, specificity 89.02%, p < 0.0001). The patients with APRI <9.04 mostly developed simple dengue fever (54.1%) vs DHF (4.4%) and DSS (1.5%), while patients with APRI >9.04 had more DHF (20.7%) and DSS (12.6%) vs simple dengue fever (6.7%). None of the patient died with APRI <9.04 while the mortality rate was 3.7% in patients with APRI >9.04. Conclusion: The APRI score, calculated at the time of admission, is an excellent marker in determining the severe dengue.

BACKGROUND: Short bowel syndrome (SBS) hospitalizations are often complicated with sepsis. There is a significant paucity of data on adult SBS hospitalizations in the United States and across the globe. AIM: To assess trends and outcomes of SBS hospitalizations complicated by sepsis in the United States. METHODS: The National Inpatient Sample was utilized to identify all adult SBS hospitalizations between 2005-2014. The study cohort was further divided based on the presence or absence of sepsis. Trends were identified, and hospitalization characteristics and clinical outcomes were compared. Predictors of mortality for SBS hospitalizations complicated with sepsis were assessed. RESULTS: Of 247097 SBS hospitalizations, 21.7% were complicated by sepsis. Septic SBS hospitalizations had a rising trend of hospitalizations from 20.8% in 2005 to 23.5% in 2014 (P trend < 0.0001). Compared to non-septic SBS hospitalizations, septic SBS hospitalizations had a higher proportion of males (32.8% vs 29.3%, P < 0.0001), patients in the 35-49 (45.9% vs 42.5%, P < 0.0001) and 50-64 (32.1% vs 31.1%, P < 0.0001) age groups, and ethnic minorities, i.e., Blacks (12.4% vs 11.3%, P < 0.0001) and Hispanics (6.7% vs 5.5%, P < 0.0001). Furthermore, septic SBS hospitalizations had a higher proportion of patients with intestinal transplantation (0.33% vs 0.22%, P < 0.0001), inpatient mortality (8.5% vs 1.4%, P < 0.0001), and mean length of stay (16.1 d vs 7.7 d, P < 0.0001) compared to the non-sepsis cohort. A younger age, female gender, White race, and presence of comorbidities such as anemia and depression were identified to be independent predictors of inpatient mortality for septic SBS hospitalizations. CONCLUSION: Septic SBS hospitalizations had a rising trend between 2005-2014 and were associated with higher inpatient mortality compared to non-septic SBS hospitalizations.

ABSTRACT

Infectious diseases caused by arboviruses are a public health concern in Pakistan. However, the studies on data prevalence and threats posed by arboviruses are limited. This study investigated the seroprevalence of arboviruses in a healthy population in Pakistan, including severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV), Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), Tamdy virus (TAMV), and Karshi virus (KSIV) based on a newly established luciferase immunoprecipitation system (LIPS) assays, and Zika virus (ZIKV) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Neutralizing activities against these arboviruses were further examined from the antibody positive samples. The results showed that the seroprevalence of SFTSV, CCHFV, TAMV, KSIV, and ZIKV was 17.37%, 7.58%, 4.41%, 1.10%, and 6.48%, respectively, and neutralizing to SFTSV (1.79%), CCHFV (2.62%), and ZIKV (0.69%) were identified, as well as to the SFTSV-related Guertu virus (GTV, 0.83%). Risk factors associated with the incidence of exposure and levels of antibody response were analyzed. Moreover, co-exposure to different arboviruses was demonstrated, as thirty-seven individuals were having antibodies against multiple viruses and thirteen showed neutralizing activity. Males, individuals aged ≤40 years, and outdoor workers had high risk of exposure to arboviruses. All these results reveal the substantial risks of infection with arboviruses in Pakistan, and indicate the threat from co-exposure to multiple arboviruses. The findings raise the need for further epidemiologic investigation in expanded regions and populations and the necessity to improve health surveillance in Pakistan.

BACKGROUND: Disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) has been used to gain a better understanding of the population's quality of life. OBJECTIVES: The authors aimed to estimate age and sex-specific disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) for urban and rural areas of Bangladesh, as well as to investigate the differences in DFLE between males and females of urban and rural areas. METHODS: Data from the Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics-2016 and the Bangladesh Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES)-2016 were used to calculate the disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) of urban and rural males and females in Bangladesh in 2016. The DFLE was calculated using the Sullivan method. RESULTS: With only a few exceptions, rural areas have higher mortality and disability rates than urban areas. For both males and females, statistically significant differences in DFLE were reported between urban and rural areas between the ages of birth and 39 years. In comparison to rural males and females, urban males and females had a longer life expectancy (LE), a longer disability-free life expectancy, and a higher share of life without disability. CONCLUSION: This study illuminates stark urban-rural disparities in LE and DFLE, especially among individuals aged < 1-39 years. Gender dynamics reveal longer life expectancy but shorter disability-free life expectancy for Bangladeshi women compared to men, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to address these pronounced health inequalities.

Background and study aims Alterations to interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) and collagen fibrosis have been implicated in the pathogenesis of gastroparesis. We aimed to evaluate the feasibility and safety of pyloric muscle sampling during gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) and the association between pyloric ICC density and degree of fibrosis with clinical outcomes. Patients and methods This was a single-center prospective study of gastroparetic patients who underwent G-POEM and intraprocedural pyloric muscle biopsies between January 2022 and April 2023. ICC count was estimated using CD117 stain and trichome for collagen fibrosis. Clinical response to G-POEM was defined as an improvement of ≥ 1 point on the Gastroparesis Cardinal Symptom Index. Results Fifty-six patients (median age 60 years, 71.4% women) underwent G-POEM (100% technical success; 71.4% clinical response). ICC depletion (< 10/high-power field) and fibrosis were encountered in 70.4% and 75% of the cases, respectively. There was no difference in mean ICC count between G-POEM responders vs. non-responders (7±3.6 vs. 7.7±3.3; P = 0.9). There was no association between ICC density or degree of fibrosis with the etiology of gastroparesis, duration of symptoms, gastric emptying rate, or pyloric impedance planimetry. Patients who did not respond to G-POEM had a significantly higher degree of moderate/severe fibrosis when compared with those who responded (81.3% vs. 25%; P = 0.0002). Conclusions Pyloric muscle biopsies during G-POEM was feasible and safe. ICC depletion and pyloric muscle fibrosis are common in gastroparetic patients. The degree of fibrosis may be related to pyloric dysfunction and clinical response to G-POEM. Additional studies are needed to confirm these results.

Background: Increasing medical expenditure is viewed as one of the critical challenges in the context of population ageing. Physical activity (PA), as a primary prevention strategy for promoting health, is considered as an effective way to curb the excessive growth in medical expenditure. This study aimed to analyze the association between PA and the household out-of-pocket medical expenditure (HOPME) among Chinese urban adults aged 45 and over, and to explore the mediating role of spousal health behaviour. Methods: This study analyzed a nationally longitudinal survey: 2014-2018 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). Fixed effects regression model was applied to estimate the association between PA and annual HOPME. Sobel model was utilized to test the mediating effect. Results: (1) PA was negatively associated with the annual HOPME among urban resident aged 45 and over in China. Exercising 1-5 times per week and maintaining the duration of each exercise session at 31-60 min were effective in reducing annual HOPME. (2) Spousal PA played a significant mediating role in the relationship between respondent's PA and annual HOPME. (3) The negative association between the respondent's PA and HOPME were found among women and those aged between 45 and 65, so was the mediating effect of spouse's PA. Conclusion: Individual PA not only directly reduces HOPME but also indirectly contributes to this reduction by enhancing the PA levels of their spouses. To capitalize on these benefits, more actions should be taken to increase the availability of PA facilities, enhance the public awareness of PA's benefits, and encourage residents to consistently engage in regular PA.

Musca domestica Linnaeus is a devastating insect pest of medical and veterinary importance with reports of resistance development to commonly used insecticides worldwide. Rearing substrates usually play a crucial role in determining susceptibility to insecticides and control of insect pests. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of five rearing substrates of M. domestica on its susceptibility to different insecticides and activities of metabolic enzymes. After 30 generations of rearing, susceptibility of M. domestica to tested insecticides, viz., malathion, pirimiphos-methyl, alpha-cypermethrin, deltamethrin, methomyl, propoxur, spinetoram, and chlorfenapyr had evident differences. Musca domestica reared on hen liver exhibited reduced susceptibility to all insecticides followed by the strain reared on poultry manure. However, M. domestica reared on milk-based diet showed the highest susceptibility to tested insecticides followed by the strain reared on manures of buffalo and horse. In addition, M. domestica reared on different substrates exhibited significant differences (p < 0.01) in the activities of glutathione S-transferase (GST), cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenase, and carboxylesterase (CarE). Overall, hen liver and poultry manure strains exhibited higher activities of metabolic enzymes than those of the milk-based diet, buffalo, and horse manure strains. In conclusion, the data of the present study exhibited a significant effect of rearing substrates on the susceptibility to insecticides and activities of metabolic enzymes in M. domestica. These results could be helpful for the sustainable management of M. domestica on different hosts by selecting appropriate insecticides.

Musca domestica L. (Muscidae: Diptera) is a human and livestock pest especially in tropical and sub-tropical areas. Different insecticides have been used to control this pest that pose serious harmful effects on humans and the environment. The current study was planned to investigate the effects of two concentrations (LC25 and LC50) of pyriproxyfen on biological and population parameters of a field strain of M. domestica. The exposed parents (F0) and their progeny (F1) were studied to examine the transgenerational effects. The results indicated that preadult duration was higher in control (13.68 days) compared to LC50 treated individuals (12.44 days). The male and female longevity was relatively lower in the LC25 treated population i.e. 24.62 and 26.62 days, respectively. The adult pre-oviposition period (APOP) and total pre-oviposition period (TPOP) values were higher in the LC25 treated individuals than those of control. Moreover, oviposition days and fecundity were reduced in the treated individuals as compared to the control treatment. A gradual decrease in the net reproductive rate (R0) was observed (8.46-14.07 per day) while the value of R0 was significantly higher in control. The results suggested that pyriproxyfen can be effectively utilized and incorporated in the management programs of M. domestica.

Objective: Exposure to tobacco smoke causes numerous health problems in children, and create burden on the population in terms of economy, morbidity and mortality. In order to protect the child from exposure to tobacco smoke in the outdoor environment, sufficient legislative enactments are available in Indian legislation. The objective of the present study is to investigate the fact that in absence of any specific laws stating about protection of children from exposure to tobacco smoke in indoor environment, whether outdoor related legislations are sufficient to protect children from exposureand to explore the scope for enforcement of both state and central laws in improving health of children in India. Study design: The study considered cross-sectional survey data of Demographic and Health Survey Data on India, National Family and Health Survey fourth round (NFHS-4) for the year 2015-16 on Indian children (below age of four). Methods: Both bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to assess the impact of anti-smoking laws on the prevalence of acute respiratory infection (ARI) based on the place of residence, indoor tobacco smoke exposure and age of the child. Results: The results have shown an inclination of ARI among children in association with states having single law, rural area resident, exposure to indoor tobacco smoke and age of the child, both as independent or in combination are quite conspicuous, and are found to be underestimated. The logistic regression also revealed the influence of these factors both as independent and even in interaction with other. Conclusions: Legislative intervention through both at central (or national)and state levels through anti-smoking laws will decrease the indoor tobacco smoke exposure as a result ARI prevalence will also decrease among children in India.

ABSTRACT

Pakistan is the fifth most populous nation in the world and faces several challenges, including devastating floods, sub-optimal sanitary conditions, clustered accommodations, and unregulated cross-border movements. These drastic population shifts make it vulnerable to the efficient spread of the Hepatitis E virus (HEV). The current study analyzed the genotypic characteristics and variants of the Hepatitis E virus circulating in the population of Pakistan. A total of 75 ELISA-IgM positive samples were collected from three metropolitan cities: Lahore, Peshawar, and Karachi, and subjected to viral RNA extraction. The amplification of the HEV RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) region was done using Nested PCR and degenerate primers. Out of the total, 40% of the samples were positive for HEV RNA. Sequencing and phylogenetic analysis identified the new HEV isolates as Subtype 1 g, a subtype within an existing HEV genotype 1. This shift warrants investigation into its impact on clinical manifestation and disease severity. Importantly, this study marks the first HEV subtype analysis in Pakistan, contributing valuable insights into subtype diversity and prevalence in the region.

OBJECTIVE: To determine associations between Vitamin D (VD) levels and clinical depression through the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and its questions and subdomains, stratified by demographics and Hispanic/Latino ethnicity (HLE). DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A cohort of 299 Project FRONTIER participants aged 62.6 ± 11.7 years old, 70.9% female, and 40.5% HLE were used. Standard correlation and regression analyses were employed. MEASUREMENTS: The main outcome measures were VD (serum 25(OH)-VD) level, GDS-30 (30-item questionnaire), GDS-30 subfactors and questions, and HLE status. VD categories were defined as VD deficiency (VDD; ≤20 ng/mL), VD insufficiency (VDI; 21-29 ng/mL), VD sufficiency (30-38 ng/mL) and high VD sufficiency (>38 ng/mL). RESULTS: The majority (61.5%) of samples fell into VDD/VDI categories. A significant negative association was found between VD level and GDS-30 total score. VD level was negatively correlated with Dysphoria and Meaninglessness GDS-30 subfactors. Although GDS subfactors were similar between HLE and non-HLE groups, VD levels were significantly lower in HLE samples. Finally, HLE/non-HLE groups were differentially stratified across VD categories. Only 4% of HLEs fell into the high VD sufficient category, suggesting low VD supplementation. CONCLUSION: A significant negative association between VD level and depressive symptoms was revealed in our aging Project FRONTIER participants. HLE individuals were overrepresented in VDD/VDI samples, and VDD/VDI was associated primarily with the Dysphoria GDS subdomain. Regression analysis predicted high VD sufficiency (95.5 ng/mL) to be associated with no depressive symptoms (GDS=0). Our results underscore troubling disparities in VD-related depressive symptoms between HLE and non-HLE populations.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: With the global obesity pandemic, clinical scenarios requiring urgent ERCP in patients with gastric bypass surgery are on the rise, and single-session EUS-directed transgastric ERCP (SS-EDGE) can effectively address these technical challenges. The aim of this study was to evaluate and describe the safe and effective use of a through-the-scope endoscopic suturing system for anchoring the lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMSs) during SS-EDGE. METHODS: Six patients with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) underwent SS-EDGE at our center. A through-the-scope endoscopic suturing system was used for anchoring the LAMSs during SS-EDGE. RESULTS: Clinical and technical success was achieved in all 6 patients without any adverse events related to the procedure. No stent migration, pneumoperitoneum, or GI perforation was noted. At the 4-week follow-up, no stent migration was noted, and the through-the-scope suturing system remained anchored. LAMSs along with tacks were removed, and gastric fistulae were successfully closed endoscopically in all patients to prevent weight gain. CONCLUSIONS: Use of through-the-scope endoscopic suturing can be a safe, reliable, and potentially cost-effective novel technique for LAMS fixation to successfully perform SS-EDGE in RYGB patients.

ABSTRACT

The use of insecticides in agricultural settings often exerts negative effects on nontarget species. Methomyl, a broad-spectrum carbamate insecticide, is recommended to manage a number of insect pests of the cotton crop. Recently, Musca domestica, which is a nontarget insect species in cotton fields, has shown resistance to methomyl in Pakistan. The present study tried to assess resistance-risk assessment, rapidity of resistance development to methomyl, cross-resistance potential to other insecticides, resistance heritability and to forecast the projected rate of resistance development under field conditions. For this purpose, a field strain of M. domestica with 186 fold resistance to methomyl was re-selected in the laboratory for eight consecutive generations. Consequently, LD50 values increased rapidly (126.64 ng/fly to 3112.79 ng/fly) compared to those before selection experiments. Similarly, RR values increased from 186 to 3113 fold as a result of the selection process. However, resistance to methomyl did not remain stable when the selected strain (Meth-SEL) reared for the next five generations in a pesticide free environment. The Meth-SEL strain also developed cross-resistance to permethrin. The realized heritability (h2) value for the Meth-SEL strain was 0.39 with 27% average mortality of M. domestica. Assuming the standard deviation (σp) value 0.27 and the h2 value 0.39 for eight generations of continuous exposure to methomyl, then five, seven, eight, ten and twelve generations at 90, 80, 70, 60 and 50% selection intensity, respectively, would be required for a tenfold increase in the LD50 value of methomyl. In conclusion, the Meth-SEL strain of M. domestica exhibited a high risk of resistance development to methomyl under continuous selection pressure. Resistance increased rapidly during selection experiments that reflect the probability of resistance development under field conditions if M. domestica receive exposures to methomyl during its applications for the management of target pest species.

Resistance to permethrin has been reported in Pakistani strains of Musca domestica. The present study explored the performance of biological traits and analyzed life tables to determine whether there is any detrimental effect of permethrin resistance on the fitness of permethrin-resistant strains [an isogenic resistant strain (Perm-R) and a field strain (Perm-F)] compared to a susceptible strain (Perm-S). Perm-R and Perm-F exhibited 233.93- and 6.87-fold resistance to permethrin, respectively. Life table analyses revealed that the Perm-R strain had a significantly shorter preadult duration, longer longevity, shorter preoviposition period, higher fecundity, finite rate of increase, intrinsic rate of increase, net reproductive rate and a shorter mean generation time, followed by the Perm-F strain when compared to the Perm-S strain. Data of the performance of biological traits reveled that permethrin resistance strains had a better fit than that of the Perm-S strain. The enhanced fitness of resistant strains of M. domestica may accelerate resistance development to permethrin and other pyrethroids in Pakistan. Some possible measures to manage M. domestica and permethrin resistance in situations of fitness advantage are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Retained surgical sponge is a relatively rare medical condition with potential serious medicolegal implications. The term "gossypiboma" is frequently used to describe this condition. We present a case of a 40-cm-long retained surgical sponge in a 43-year-old woman who presented with unexplained chronic abdominal pain for several years. She had a history of open cholecystectomy, hepaticojejunostomy, and enteroenterostomy. Computed tomography scan revealed a large cotton sponge anchored within the large bowel. Surgical exploration is usually required for the retrieval of gossypiboma. However, it was successfully removed endoscopically using a diathermic needle knife with no immediate complications. The patient was discharged after 48 hours with marked improvement in her abdominal pain. This case emphasizes the emerging role of novel endoscopic interventions, resulting in excellent clinical outcomes, avoiding major surgical interventions, and providing cost-effective benefits.

OBJECTIVE: This metanalysis aims to assess the efficacy and safety of biliary stenting along with radiofrequency ablation compared with stents alone to treat malignant biliary obstruction (MBO) due to extrahepatic biliary strictures secondary to cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic cancer, and metastatic cancer. METHODS: A systemic search of major databases through April 2022 was done. All original studies were included comparing radiofrequency ablation with stenting versus stenting alone for treating malignant biliary strictures. The primary outcomes of interest were the difference in the mean stent patency and overall survival (OS) days between the 2 groups. The secondary outcome was to compare the adverse events of the 2 groups. The mean difference in the stent patency and OS days was pooled by using a random-effect model. We calculated the odds ratio to compare the adverse events between the 2 groups. RESULTS: A total of 13 studies with 1339 patients were identified. The pooled weighted mean difference in stent patency was 43.50 days (95% CI, 25.60-61.41), favoring the RFA plus stenting. Moreover, the pooled weighted mean difference in OS was 90.53 days (95% CI, 49.00-132.07), showing improved survival in the RFA group. Our analysis showed no statistically significant difference in adverse events between the 2 groups OR 1.13 (95% CI, 0.90-1.42). CONCLUSION: Our analysis showed that RFA, along with stent, is safe and is associated with improved stent patency and overall patient survival in malignant biliary strictures. More robust prospective studies should assess this association further.

ABSTRACT

In present high-tech era, firms need to possess a variety of capabilities and resources to attain and sustain a competitive position in the market. The motivation for this study was to understand green competitive advantage through the application of Ability-Motivation-Opportunity theory and Natural-Resource-Based view. In a time-lagging longitudinal online survey related to small-and-medium-sized manufacturing enterprises, 223 professionals provided data according to their opinions. The structural and measurement model were designed for analyses. The results supported the model and verify the Green human resource management practices' influence on green competitive advantage, with partial mediation of green knowledge sharing and green innovation (green product innovation and green process innovation). The analyses revealed the positive highly significant moderation of green human capital, which is the novelty of the study. Green human capital is important to develop sustainable workforce who act as catalyst in achieving sustainable development goals. The report offers practical advice for small-medium manufacturing enterprises (SMMEs) aiming to attain a green competitive advantage. With the help of a green competitive advantage, the recommendations in this study can benefit SMMEs to develop a green human capital and to create innovative knowledge. As a result, it is a futuristic approach to dealing with the improved environmental conditions and developed a green human capital in this industrialized age.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Living in hilly neighbourhoods can be associated with sedentary behaviour, but no study has compared sedentary behaviour and its associations with frailty, chronic diseases, and poor health between flat and hilly neighbourhoods among older adults. This study, therefore, compared older adults' sedentary behaviour and its association with frailty, poor health, and chronic disease status between low and hilly neighbourhoods. METHODS: This study utilised a STROBE-compliant cross-sectional design with sensitivity analyses and a common methods bias assessment. The participants were 1,209 people aged 50+ years who resided in flat (Ablekuma North, n = 704) and hilly (Kwahu East, n = 505) neighbourhoods in Ghana. The data were analysed with the independent samples t-test and hierarchical linear regression. RESULTS: Older adults in the hilly neighbourhood were more sedentary than those in the flat neighbourhood. The association between sedentary behaviour and chronic disease status was significant in both neighbourhoods, but this relationship was stronger in the hilly neighbourhood. Older adults in the flat neighbourhood reported lower sedentary behaviour at higher frailty (ß = -0.18; t = -3.2, p < 0.001), but those in the hilly neighbourhood reported higher sedentary behaviour at higher frailty (ß = 0.16; t = 3.54, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Older adults living in the hilly neighbourhood reported higher sedentary behaviour. In the hilly neighbourhood, sedentary behaviour was more strongly associated with frailty and chronic disease status. Older adults in hilly neighbourhoods may need extra support to avoid sedentary behaviour.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Research shows that frailty is associated with higher sedentary behaviour, but the evidence to date regarding this association is inconclusive. This study assessed whether the above association is moderated or modified by gender and age, with sedentary behaviour measured with a more inclusive method. METHODS: This study adopted a STROBE-compliant cross-sectional design with sensitivity analyses and measures against common methods bias. The participants were community-dwelling older adults (mean age = 66 years) in two Ghanaian towns. A self-reported questionnaire was used to collect data from 1005 participants after the minimum sample size necessary was calculated. The hierarchical linear regression analysis was used to analyse the data. RESULTS: After adjusting for the ultimate confounders, frailty was associated with higher sedentary behaviour (ß = 0.14; t = 2.93; p <0.05) as well as partial and absolute sedentary behaviour. Gender modified the above associations in the sense that frailty was more strongly associated with sedentary behaviour among women, compared with men. Age also modified the association between frailty and sedentary behaviour, which suggests that frailty was more strongly associated with higher sedentary behaviour at a higher age. CONCLUSION: Sedentary behaviour could be higher at higher frailty among older adults. Frailty is more strongly associated with sedentary behaviour at a higher age and among women, compared with men.
