ABSTRACT

To enhance the informative value and validity of X-ray study in detecting destructive changes in infiltrates, tuberculomas, and blocked caverns, the authors treated their computed tomographic scans by linear spatial filtration and identification of equidensite fields. In this case, after treatment of an image, the phase of decay in the presence of filtrates was 14.2% and increased up to 36.1%. Cavernous processes are detectable when the scans of blocked caverns that are frequently taken as infiltrates are treated.

ABSTRACT

Tracheobronchography using tantal powder was used to study the functional activity of the intact and altered bronchial mucosa that manifested itself as the unchanged outline of the mucosa and its clearance (mucociliary clearance). With the intact mucosa, the sequence of its clearance was established; the mechanism of powder transport was studied, which showed up as the appearance of metachronal fields, fusion of particles into conglomerates that form currents that direct towards the larynx. The clearance of the mucosa was over by hours 20-24. With the altered mucosa (tuberculosis and other diseases), the sequence and mechanism of its clearance were impaired. The outline of the mucosa was chaotic; there was a long powder retention (48-72-hour or more) in cancer and bronchoectases. There was retrograde transport of particles into the minor bronchi. The found differences in the activity of the mucosa in pulmonary tuberculosis and lung cancer allow this method to be used for differential diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

The radionuclide technique pulmonary perfusion scintigraphy was used to study 124 new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis before therapy and 25 controls. The data indicated that perfusion impairments were significant and rather noticeable in 84% of new cases of the disease. Evidence was provided for that pulmonary capillary blood flow was associated with the duration of the disease, with the initial type and phase of a tuberculous process, and with clinical manifestations. There was a predominance of significant and drastically marked vascular lesions in patients with infiltrative and disseminated tuberculosis under the present conditions.

ABSTRACT

The radionuclide method--infusion dynamic ureteroscintigraphy--was used to examine 123 patients with tuberculosis of the urinary organs and 51 patients of the control group. Contractility parameters of various portions of the ureters and pelves in varying urinary tuberculosis were established. The contractility of the pelves and ureters was proved to be impaired even prior to the appearance of visible X-ray changes in the ureters. A specific increase in contractility in the area from the pelvis to the middle third of the ureter and further reduction in the lower third were seen.

ABSTRACT

A proposed new method of infusion dynamic ureteroscintigraphy was used for investigation of 51 controls and 27 patients with unilateral tuberculous ureterohydronephrosis. Values of the contractility of different parts of the ureters and pelvis were obtained. The statistic law of distribution of these values is logarithmically normal. A high sensitivity of the method in the assessment of ureteral and pelvic function was shown.
