ABSTRACT

Objective: To study the clinical effect of group cognitive behavioral therapy to one-on-one treatment on patients with early-onset schizophrenia. Methods: Totally,133 patients with early-onset schizophrenia admitted to the Department of Psychiatry of our hospital from September 2020 to September 2023 were selected and divided into a control group and an observation group according to whether group behavioral cognitive therapy was performed. The general demographic data of the patients were collected, and the propensity score matching method was used to balance the baseline data of the 2 groups. The Positive and negative syndrome scale, Personal and Social Performance Scale, severity of illness (SI), and efficacy index (EI) were compared between the 2 groups after matching. Results: After matching, 72 patients were included in our study. Compared to the control group, observation group PANSS score were decreased including after intervention (P > .05). Both groups showed a decrease between before and after treatments. Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale reduction rate after treatment and total response rate were increased in the observation group (P <.001). Personal and Social Performance Scale of the Clinical Global Impression (CGI) scores were higher than those of the control group. In the CGI scores, there is a significant difference that SI scores were lower in the observation group (P = .002), while EI scores were higher (P <.001). Conclusion: Group cognitive behavioral therapy is beneficial to the improvement of mental symptoms and disease severity, social function, and curative effect, which is advocated and popularized.

BACKGROUND: Research in functional asymmetry of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) under different tasks is crucial for clinical diagnose. METHODS: Fifty individuals with MDD and twenty healthy controls (HCS) were recruited for hemodynamic data collection under four fNIRS tasks (Emotional picture, Verbal fluency, Fingering and Negative emotional picture description task). Integral values and functional connectivity strength were employed to probe neural activation and functional connectivity in frontal and temporal lobes in MDD. Following, asymmetry characteristic of the frontal cortex between MDD and HCS under four tasks were carefully analyzed and compared. RESULTS: Individuals with MDD demonstrated heightened connectivity between the frontal and right temporal lobes and reduced connectivity between the frontal and left temporal lobes compared to HCS in all tasks. Additionally, MDD exhibited attenuated activation in the left frontal lobes and exaggerated activation in the right frontal lobes, diverging from HCS. Furthermore, the disparities in left-right asymmetry characteristic of frontal cortex activation between MDD and HCS were more pronounced during the combined task. LIMITATIONS: Further research is required to grasp the neurophysiological mechanisms governing left-right asymmetry across various tasks and the influence of task-induced brain fatigue on cerebral cortex hemodynamics in MDD. CONCLUSION: The left-right asymmetry feature provides valuable neurophysiological insights for diagnosing MDD clinically. Variations in activation patterns and functional connectivity features between MDD and HCS are closely tied to the task chosen. Thus, in clinical practice, carefully selecting appropriate fNIRS tasks and relevant features can significantly improve the diagnostic accuracy of MDD.

ABSTRACT

Shock is characterized with vascular hyporesponsiveness to vasoconstrictors, thereby to cause refractory hypotension, insufficient tissue perfusion, and multiple organ dysfunction. The vascular hyporeactivity persisted even though norepinephrine and fluid resuscitation were administrated, it is of critical importance to find new potential target. Ion channels are crucial in the regulation of cell membrane potential and affect vasoconstriction and vasodilation. It has been demonstrated that many types of ion channels including K+ channels, Ca2+ permeable channels, and Na+ channels exist in vascular smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells, contributing to the regulation of vascular homeostasis and vasomotor function. An increasing number of studies suggested that the structural and functional alterations of ion channels located in arteries contribute to vascular hyporesponsiveness during shock, but the underlying mechanisms remained to be fully clarified. Therefore, the expression and functional changes in ion channels in arteries associated with shock are reviewed, to pave the way for further exploring the potential of ion channel-targeted compounds in treating refractory hypotension in shock.

ABSTRACT

Inadequate tissue volume at the lower pole of the breast following tumor excision can compromise aesthetic outcomes when employing the conventional inverted-T reconstruction technique. With the aim of reducing postoperative deformities, we have refined this technique. A total of 104 patients underwent the T technique, while 32 underwent the modified T technique and 72 underwent the traditional T technique. In this study, we present the surgical outcomes of the modified T technique group and compare both surgical and oncological outcomes with those of the traditional T technique group. In the modified T technique group, the average tumor size was 23.34 mm, and the mean operation duration was 107.75 min, which was significantly shorter than that of the traditional T technique (p = 0.039). Additionally, the average blood loss was 95.93 mL, which was significantly lower than that of the traditional T technique (p = 0.011). Although complication rates did not differ significantly between the two groups (p = 0.839), the modified T technique yielded superior aesthetic outcomes compared to the traditional T technique (p = 0.019). Survival analysis indicated no significant difference in 5-year recurrence-free survival between the two groups, both before and after propensity score matching (p = 0.381 vs. p = 0.277). As part of our series of oncoplastic techniques for the lower breast quadrant, the modified inverted-T technique utilizes a cost-effective flap to address lower pole defects, mitigating deformities and restoring the breast's natural shape.

ABSTRACT

In clinical practice, accurately identifying self-injurious behavior among adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD) is crucial for individualized treatment. This study aimed to examine the differences in prefrontal cortex activation using the functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) during the verbal fluency task (VFT) assessment of adolescents with MDD and self-harm (SH) compared with those without SH. A total of 60 eligible patients were included for final analysis, with the SH group containing 36 participants, and the Non-SH group containing 24 participants. We found that right middle frontal gyrus (rMFG) was more activated in the SH group than that in the Non-SH group during the VFT assessments (z = -3.591, p = 0.004, FDR correction). The z-scores of beta values of rMFG exhibited a good discriminatory power with the area under the curve (AUC) in distinguishing the two groups (AUC = 0.775, p < 0.001). These findings reveal that the fNIRS-VFT paradigm may be a useful tool for discovering neurobiological differences among adolescents with MDD.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Depressive disorder is a mental health disorder with complicated etiopathogenesis. Environmental stress and neurodevelopment combined with other factors contribute to the occurrence of depression. Especially for the depressive disorder with chronic negative stress, it has characteristics of recurrence and poor curative effect because of unclear mechanism. Here, we investigated the hippocampal structures and functional connectivity (FC) according to resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging in patients with depression who underwent chronic negative stress. Patients and Methods: A total of 65 patients with depression (34 underwent chronic negative stress and 31 non-underwent chronic negative stress) and 30 healthy controls who did not undergo chronic negative stress were included in the study. The volumes of hippocampal subfields, seed-based FCs between hippocampus and the whole brain voxels, and ROI-wise-based FC between hippocampal subfields were compared among the three groups. Results: In the patients with depression who underwent chronic negative stress, the volumes of right_GC-ML-DG-head, right_CA4-head and right_CA3-head increased, FCs between Temporal_Mid_R, Precuneus_R, Frontal_Sup_R, Temporal_Sup_R, Angular_L, Frontal_Inf_Tri_R, Supp_Motor_Area_R, Precentral_L and hippocampus increased, and FCs between parasubiculum and CA3, and presubiculum and CA1 decreased. When compared to the patients who did not undergo chronic negative stress, the patients who underwent chronic negative stress had larger volumes of right_GC-ML-DG-head and right_CA3-head, higher FCs between Frontal_Sup_R, Frontal_Inf_Tri_R and hippocampus, and lower FCs between presubiculum and CA1. Conclusion: The depression underwent chronic negative stress may experience disrupted hippocampal structures and functional connectivity. It may be one of potential depressive disorder subtypes.

ABSTRACT

Ferroptosis is a distinct mode of cell death, distinguishing itself from typical apoptosis by its reliance on the accumulation of iron ions and lipid peroxides. Cells manifest an imbalance between oxidative stress and antioxidant equilibrium during certain pathological contexts, such as tumours, resulting in oxidative stress. Notably, recent investigations propose that heightened intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to oxidative stress can heighten cellular susceptibility to ferroptosis inducers or expedite the onset of ferroptosis. Consequently, comprehending role of ROS in the initiation of ferroptosis has significance in elucidating disorders related to oxidative stress. Moreover, an exhaustive exploration into the mechanism and control of ferroptosis might offer novel targets for addressing specific tumour types. Within this context, our review delves into recent fundamental pathways and the molecular foundation of ferroptosis. Four classical ferroptotic molecular pathways are well characterized, namely, glutathione peroxidase 4-centred molecular pathway, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 molecular pathway, mitochondrial molecular pathway, and mTOR-dependent autophagy pathway. Furthermore, we seek to elucidate the regulatory contributions enacted by ROS. Additionally, we provide an overview of targeted medications targeting four molecular pathways implicated in ferroptosis and their potential clinical applications. Here, we review the role of ROS and oxidative stress in ferroptosis, and we discuss opportunities to use ferroptosis as a new strategy for cancer therapy and point out the current challenges persisting within the domain of ROS-regulated anticancer drug research and development.

Objective: Suicidal behavior is strongly correlated with depressive symptoms and the degree of suicidal ideation. Cognitive impairment may have varying degrees of influence on suicidal ideation (SI) and suicidal attempts (SA). The aim of this study was to identify the cognitive biomarkers that distinguish suicidal ideation from suicidal attempts in adolescents. Methods: The cross-sectional sample comprised 54 adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD) and 32 healthy controls (HC). The THINC-it was utilized to assess cognitive function of all the samples. Suicidal ideation was examined by the Positive and Negative Suicide Ideation Scale (PANSI). Based on the type of data, one-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis was performed to investigate group differences. Bonferroni post-hoc analysis was employed for regulating type I error for pairwise comparisons. Network analysis was used to compare the networks associated with suicidal ideation, depression symptoms, and cognitive function between SA and SI. Results: The depression symptoms (HAMD-17) (F=72.515, P<0.001) and suicidal ideation (PANSI) (F=267.952, P<0.001) in the SA were higher than those in the SI. Analysis of between-group differences showed SA performed worse in THINC-it, especially in "Spotter (SP)" (P=0.033), "Objective cognition score (OS)" (P=0.027) and "Composite score (CS)" (P=0.017). Compared with SI, network analysis revealed that SA had a unique network of cognitive function, depressive symptoms, and suicidal ideation. Nevertheless, both networks exhibit comparable performance concerning the node strength of cognitive function. Within their separate networks, the aspects of CS, OS, and SP have emerged as the three most crucial elements. Conclusion: Adolescents with SI or SA exhibit a broad spectrum of cognitive impairments. Attention impairment can be beneficial in discerning between SI and SA. Future interventions for adolescent suicide can center on attention and the comprehensive cognitive ability that it represents.

BACKGROUND: As clinical practices with lithium salts for patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder (BD) are poorly documented in Asia, we studied the prevalence and clinical correlates of lithium use there to support international comparisons. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study of use and dosing of lithium salts for BD patients across 13 Asian sites and evaluated bivariate relationships of lithium treatment with clinical correlates followed by multivariate logistic regression modeling. RESULTS: In a total of 2139 BD participants (52.3% women) of mean age 42.4 years, lithium salts were prescribed in 27.3% of cases overall, varying among regions from 3.20% to 59.5%. Associated with lithium treatment were male sex, presence of euthymia or mild depression, and a history of seasonal mood change. Other mood stabilizers usually were given with lithium, often at relatively high doses. Lithium use was associated with newly emerging and dose-dependent risk of tremors as well as risk of hypothyroidism. We found no significant differences in rates of clinical remission or of suicidal behavior if treatment included lithium or not. CONCLUSIONS: Study findings clarify current prevalence, dosing, and clinical correlates of lithium treatment for BD in Asia. This information should support clinical decision-making regarding treatment of BD patients and international comparisons of therapeutic practices.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Riboflavin, a vital water-soluble vitamin with antioxidative activity, plays a critical role in maintaining overall bodily health and defense responses. However, its impact on fragrant rice yield and aroma remains unexplored. RESULTS: In a 2022 pot experiment with Meixiangzhan and Yuxiangyouzhan fragrant rice cultivars, we applied riboflavin foliar treatments at concentrations of 0 (CK), 10 (R10), 20 (R20), and 40 (R40) mg L-1 during the initial heading stage. Riboflavin increased rice yield, 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP) content, and antioxidative properties. It boosted 2-AP level by 13.1-50.1% for Meixiangzhan and 22.3-35.3% for Yuxiangyouzhan, with the highest levels in R20 and R10 treatments. This increase is significantly correlated with elevated levels of proline, pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid, pyrroline, and methylglyoxal, as well as heightened enzyme activities, including those of proline dehydrogenase, ornithine aminotransferase, and pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid synthetase (P5CS). The R20 treatment resulted in the highest yield due to an improved seed-setting rate. Importantly, a positive correlation emerged between 2-AP content and yield, both significantly linked to superoxide dismutase, proline, hydrogen peroxide, P5CS, catalase, and pyrroline. CONCLUSION: Riboflavin maintained enzyme activities, regulated substance synthesis pathways, and increased 2-AP and yield, especially in the R20 treatment. These insights advance fragrant rice production theory by uncovering riboflavin's role in the development of fragrant rice. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Total white blood cell count (TWBCc), an index of chronic and low-grade inflammation, is associated with clinical symptoms and metabolic alterations in patients with schizophrenia. The effect of antipsychotics on TWBCc, predictive values of TWBCc for drug response, and role of metabolic alterations require further study. METHODS: Patients with schizophrenia were randomized to monotherapy with risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, aripiprazole, ziprasidone, perphenazine or haloperidol in a 6-week pharmacological trial. We repeatedly measured clinical symptoms, TWBCc, and metabolic measures (body mass index, blood pressure, waist circumference, fasting blood lipids and glucose). We used mixed-effect linear regression models to test whether TWBCc can predict drug response. Mediation analysis to investigate metabolic alteration effects on drug response. RESULTS: At baseline, TWBCc was higher among patients previously medicated. After treatment with risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, perphenazine, and haloperidol, TWBCc decreased significantly (p < 0.05). Lower baseline TWBCc predicted greater reductions in Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total and negative scores over time (p < 0.05). We found significant mediation of TWBCc for effects of waist circumference, fasting low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and glucose on reductions in PANSS total scores and PANSS negative subscale scores (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: TWBCc is affected by certain antipsychotics among patients with schizophrenia, with decreases observed following short-term, but increases following long-term treatment. TWBCc is predictive of drug response, with lower TWBCc predicting better responses to antipsychotics. It also mediates the effects of certain metabolic measures on improvement of negative symptoms. This indicates that the metabolic state may affect clinical manifestations through inflammation.

Background and objectives Blonanserin is a second-generation antipsychotic (SGA)for the treatment of schizophrenia and has been approved for use in Japan, South Korea and China. This analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of blonanserin in Chinese adolescent patients, using data from a post-marketing surveillance of blonanserin started in September 2018. Methods A 12-week, prospective, multi-center, open-label post-marketing surveillance was conducted. Patients in this analysis were stratified by age. Results 78 patients with schizophrenia aged < 18 years were included. The incidence of adverse drug reactions in adolescent patients was 33.3% significantly higher than patients over 40 years old. After 12-week treatment, 8.1% of adolescent patients had a weight gain ≥ 7%, and it was not significantly different from other age groups. Mean Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) total score was significantly reduced at week 12, and the decline of anergia score and thought disturbance score of adolescent patients was significantly greater than in adults. Conclusions Blonanserin was well tolerated and effective in the treatment of schizophrenia in Chinese adolescent patients in real-world clinical practice. Blonanserin might be a reasonable choice for the treatment of schizophrenia in adolescent patients. (AU)

BACKGROUND: Blonanserin (BNS) had been undergoing post-market surveillance (PMS) since September 2018. Using the surveillance data, we did this analysis to assess the safety and effectiveness of different doses of BNS to explore a sufficient dose range of BNS in Chinese patients with schizophrenia (SZ). METHODS: A 12-week, prospective, observational, single-arm, multicenter, open-label PMS was conducted. In this analysis, we divided the patients from PMS into low, medium to high, and high dose groups based on the dose of BNS they received, with medium to high dose group being the focus. The Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) scores at week 2 or 4, 6 or 8, and 12 were calculated to evaluate the effectiveness of BNS in improving psychiatric symptoms. The safety of BNS was reported as the incidence of adverse drug reactions. RESULTS: 364 patients were included in the medium to high dose group, of which 321 completed the surveillance, with a dropout rate of 11.8%. The mean daily dose was 15.1 ± 1.92 mg. The BPRS total score was 50.1 ± 11.95 at baseline and decreased to 26.6 ± 7.43 at 12 weeks (P < 0.001). When compared with other groups, the median to high dose group achieved significantly more reduction in BPRS score at week 12 (P = 0.004 versus low dose and P = 0.033 versus higher dose). Extrapyramidal symptoms [EPS (46.4%)] were the most common adverse reactions in the medium to high group. The average weight gain during the surveillance was 0.5 ± 2.56 kg and prolactin elevation occurred in 2.2% patients. Most adverse reactions were mild. CONCLUSIONS: BNS at medium to high doses (mean 15.1 mg/d) significantly improved symptoms of SZ and was well-tolerated. Most ADRs were mild, and the likelihood of causing metabolic side effects and prolactin elevations was low. Medium to high dose of BNS is a more potent treatment choice for SZ. RATIONALE: The management of depression continues to be challenging despite the variety of available antidepressants. Herbal medicines are used in many cultures but lack stringent testing to understand their efficacy and mechanism of action. Isoalantolactone (LAT) from Elecampane (Inula helenium) improved the chronic social defeat stress (CSDS)-induced anhedonia-like phenotype in mice comparable to fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). OBJECTIVES: Compare the effects of LAT and fluoxetine on depression-like behaviors in mice exposed to CSDS. RESULT: The CSDS-induced decrease in protein expression of postsynaptic density (PSD95), brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and glutamate receptor subunit-1 (GluA1) in the prefrontal cortex was restored by LAT. LAT showed robust anti-inflammatory activity and can lessen the increase in IL-6 and TNF-α caused by CSDS. CSDS altered the gut microbiota at the taxonomic level, resulting in significant changes in α- and ß-diversity. LAT treatment reestablished the bacterial abundance and diversity and increased the production of butyric acid in the gut that was inhibited by CSDS. The levels of butyric acid were negatively correlated with the abundance of Bacteroidetes, and positively correlated with those of Proteobacteria and Firmicutes across all treatment groups. CONCLUSIONS: The current data suggest that, similar to fluoxetine, LAT show antidepressant-like effects in mice exposed to CSDS through the modulation of the gut-brain axis.

Non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of montmorillonite (MMT)/polyamide 610 (PA610) composites were readily prepared by in situ melt polymerization followed by a full investigation in terms of their microstructure, performance, and crystallization kinetics. The kinetic models of Jeziorny, Ozawa, and Mo were used in turn to fit the experimental data, in all of which Mo's analytical method was found to be the best model for the kinetic data. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies were used to investigate the isothermal crystallization behavior and MMT dispersion levels in the MMT/PA610 composites. The experiment results revealed that low MMT content can promote the PA610 crystallization, whilst high MMT content result in MMT agglomeration, and reduce the PA610 crystallization rate.

ABSTRACT

The utilization of solid waste for filling mining presents substantial economic and environmental advantages, making it the primary focus of current filling mining technology development. To enhance the mechanical properties of superfine tailings cemented paste backfill (SCPB), this study conducted response surface methodology experiments to investigate the impact of various factors on the strength of SCPB, including the composite cementitious material, consisting of cement and slag powder, and the tailings' grain size. Additionally, various microanalysis techniques were used to investigate the microstructure of SCPB and the development mechanisms of its hydration products. Furthermore, machine learning was utilized to predict the strength of SCPB under multi-factor effects. The findings reveal that the combined effect of slag powder dosage and slurry mass fraction has the most significant influence on strength, while the coupling effect of slurry mass fraction and underflow productivity has the lowest impact on strength. Moreover, SCPB with 20% slag powder has the highest amount of hydration products and the most complete structure. When compared to other commonly used prediction models, the long-short term memory neural network (LSTM) constructed in this study had the highest prediction accuracy for SCPB strength under multi-factor conditions, with root mean square error (RMSE), correlation coefficient (R), and variance account for (VAF) reaching 0.1396, 0.9131, and 81.8747, respectively. By optimizing the LSTM using the sparrow search algorithm (SSA), the RMSE, R, and VAF improved by 88.6%, 9.4%, and 21.9%, respectively. The research results can provide guidance for the efficient filling of superfine tailings.

BACKGROUND: Pharmacoepidemiological studies of clozapine use to treat bipolar disorder (BD), especially in Asia, are rare, although they can provide insights into associated clinical characteristics and support international comparisons of indications and drug dosing. METHODS: We examined the prevalence and clinical correlates of clozapine treatment for BD in 13 Asian countries and regions (China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand) within an Asian Prescription Patterns Research Consortium. We compared BD patients treated with clozapine or not in initial bivariate comparisons followed by multivariable logistic regression modeling. RESULTS: Clozapine was given to 2.13% of BD patients overall, at a mean daily dose of 275 (confidence interval, 267-282) chlorpromazine-equivalent mg/day. Patients receiving clozapine were older, more likely males, hospitalized, currently manic, and given greater numbers of mood-stabilizing and antipsychotic drugs in addition to clozapine. Logistic regression revealed that older age, male sex, current mania, and greater number of other antipsychotics remained significantly associated with clozapine treatment. Clozapine use was not associated with depressed mood, remission of illness, suicidal risk, or electroconvulsive treatment within the previous 12 months. CONCLUSIONS: The identified associations of clozapine use with particular clinical features call for vigilance in personalized clinical monitoring so as to optimize clinical outcomes of BD patients and to limit risks of adverse effects of polytherapy.

ABSTRACT

Previous studies have shown that the effectiveness of superfine tailings cemented paste backfill (SCPB) is influenced by multiple factors. To optimize the filling effect of superfine tailings, the effects of different factors on the fluidity, mechanical properties, and microstructure of SCPB were investigated. Before configuring the SCPB, the effect of cyclone operating parameters on the concentration and yield of superfine tailings was first investigated and the optimal cyclone operating parameters were obtained. The settling characteristics of superfine tailings under the optimum cyclone parameters were further analyzed, and the effect of the flocculant on its settling characteristics was shown in the block selection. Then the SCPB was prepared using cement and superfine tailings, and a series of experiments were carried out to investigate its working characteristics. The flow test results showed that the slump and slump flow of SCPB slurry decreased with increasing mass concentration, which was mainly because the higher the mass concentration, the higher the viscosity and yield stress of the slurry, and thus the worse its fluidity. The strength test results showed that the strength of SCPB was mainly affected by the curing temperature, curing time, mass concentration, and cement-sand ratio, among which the curing temperature had the most significant effect on the strength. The microscopic analysis of the block selection showed the mechanism of the effect of the curing temperature on the strength of SCPB, i.e., the curing temperature mainly affected the strength of SCPB by affecting the hydration reaction rate of SCPB. The slow hydration process of SCPB in a low temperature environment leads to fewer hydration products and a loose structure, which is the fundamental reason for the strength reduction of SCPB. The results of the study have some guiding significance for the efficient application of SCPB in alpine mines.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Ziprasidone mesylate injection is an atypical antipsychotic drug which is recently approved in China. In combination with its oral formulation, sequential therapy with ziprasidone brings new interventions to patients with agitation in the acute phase of schizophrenia. The purpose of this 7-day multicenter study conducted in China was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ziprasidone sequential treatment through intramuscular/oral routes in agitated patients with schizophrenia. METHODS: A total of 95 patients were enrolled from three centers in this study. The study duration was 7 days. In the first 3 days, subjects were administered an intramuscular injection of ziprasidone 10-40 mg daily and started sequentially with oral ziprasidone 40-80 mg at dinner (or lunch) from the day of the last intramuscular injection. In the following 4 days, according to the severity of the symptoms and the drug response, 120-160 mg of ziprasidone was orally administered daily. In total, six visits were scheduled to assess the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), the Behavioral Activity Rating Scale (BARS), the Clinical Global Impression of Severity (CGI-S), and Improvement (CGI-I) scores throughout the procedure. Lastly, adverse events were recorded during treatment. RESULTS: Out of the 95 patients that were enrolled, 83 cases were effectively completed. Visits 3, 4, 6, PANSS, and PANSS-excited component (PANSS-EC) subscale points, and Visit 2-Visit 6 viewpoints, BARS scale points, and baseline scores denote a progressive downward trend (P < 0.001). In this study, 62 adverse events were reported. The most common adverse events were extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) (23 cases) and excessive sedation(10 cases), and 13 cases of prolonged QTc interval were reported. CONCLUSIONS: Ziprasidone IM demonstrated significant and rapid reduction in agitation, and sequential oral formulation keep stability and continuation of the treatment can further ensure efficacy. Ziprasidone sequential therapy may provide a new approach to acute agitation in schizophrenic patients. ABSTRACT

Low carbon ferrochrome slag (LCFS) is the metallurgical waste slag from the carbon ferrochrome alloy smelting process. Compared with high carbon ferrochrome slag, LCFS has great potential as cementitious material; the chemical compositions of the two types of slag are quite different. In this research, composite cementitious materials are prepared which use low carbon ferrochrome slag and granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) as the main raw material. Steel slag mud (SSM) and flue gas desulfurization gypsum (FGDG) are used as the activator. In order to find the variety rule of compressive strength on the composite cementitious materials, a three-factor three-level Box-Behnken design is used to discuss the following independent variables: LCFS content, GBFS content, and water-binder ratio. Moreover, the hydration characteristics of the LCFS-GBFS composite cementitious materials is studied in this paper in terms of hydration product, micromorphology, and hydration degree, based on multi-technical microstructural characterizations. The results show that the compressive strength of the LCFS-GBFS composite cementitious materials is significantly affected by single factors and the interaction of two factors. The mechanical property of the mortar samples at 3, 7, and 28 days are 26.6, 35.3, and 42.7 MPa, respectively, when the LCFS-GBFS-SSM-FGDG ratio is 3:5:1:1 and the water-binder ratio is 0.3. The hydration products of LCFS-GBFS composite cementitious materials are mainly amorphous gels (C-S-H gel), ettringite, and Ca(OH)2. With the increase of LCFS content, more hydration products are generated, and the microstructure of the cementitious system becomes more compact, which contributes to the compressive strength. The results of this research can provide a preliminary theoretical foundation for the development of LCFS-GBFS composite cementitious materials and promote the feasibility of its application in the construction industry. Deep hydration mechanism analysis and engineering applications should be studied in the future.
