ABSTRACT

In this work, a new rapid and targeted method for screening α-glucosidase inhibitors from Hypericum beanii was developed and verified. Ten new polycyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols (PPAPs), hyperlagarol A-J (1-10), and nine known PPAPs (11-19) were obtained from H. beanii. Their structures were identified by using comprehensive analyses involving mass spectrometry, ultraviolet spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and electron capture dissociation calculations. 1 and 2 are two new rare 2,3-seco-spirocyclic PPAPs, 3 and 4 are two novel 12,13-seco-spirocyclic PPAPs, 5 and 6 are two novel spirocyclic PPAPs, 7 and 8 are two new unusual spirocyclic PPAPs with complex bridged ring systems, and 9 and 10 are two novel nonspirocyclic PPAPs. α-GC inhibitory activities of all isolated compounds were tested. Most of them displayed inhibitory activities against α-glucosidase, with the IC50 values ranging from 6.85 ± 0.65 to 112.5 ± 9.03 µM. Moreover, the inhibitory type and mechanism of the active compounds were further analyzed using kinetic studies and molecular docking.

ABSTRACT

To explore the spatial allocation of national fitness resources at different spatial scales in Fuzhou city to provide useful references for optimizing and enhancing the spatial allocation of national fitness resources and urban planning. The equity, spatial distribution characteristics, accessibility and supply-demand balance of national fitness resources in Fuzhou city are analysed in depth by using the two-step mobile search method of multiple travel modes, the Gini coefficient, and exploratory spatial data analysis methods. The results show that the overall spatial allocation of national fitness resources is in a balanced state, but there are serious inequities and spatial mismatches in each district (county); the spatial distribution of national fitness resources is characterized by centralized agglomeration and surface dispersion, being dense in the south and sparse in the north. Areas with insufficient resources per capita have an agglomeration-type scattering distribution; areas with sufficient resources per capita have a dispersed patch distribution. Access to national fitness resources and the relationship between their supply and demand are characterized by positive spatial concentration; however, the layout of the national fitness resources planned for the old urban areas urgently needs to be optimized, with the Chating and Antai streets serving as centres, to increase the effective supply. Finally,we suggestions that Top-level design should be strengthened, the communalization of sports public services should be promoted, the service capacity and utilization efficiency of national fitness resources should be enhanced, and the construction of national fitness resources in new urban areas and new industrial agglomerations should be accelerated.

ABSTRACT

Bio-depolymerized the lignin macromolecules into low molecular lignin-derived aromatic compounds satisfies the requirement for carbon dioxide peaking and is also one of the important ways to realize lignin valorization. Coriolopsis trogii is a kind of less reported lignin-degrading white-rot fungus. The degradability of a self-isolated C. trogii TS01 on industrial lignins, including enzymatic hydrolysis lignin (EHL) and Kraft lignin (KL), was investigated in this paper. The results indicated that EHL could be used as an efficient carbon source to promote the cell growth and ligninolytic enzyme secretion of C. trogii TS01. Compared with using 2% glucose as carbon source, 1% EHL plus 1% glucose would increase the maximum cell dry weight, laccase activity, and manganese-dependent peroxidase activity of C. trogii TS01 by 24.8%, 164.1%, and 200%, respectively. However, the cell growth and ligninolytic enzyme secretion would be significantly inhibited in the case of 1% KL plus 1% glucose used as carbon source. As a result, at the 12th day of fermentation, the degradation rates of EHL and KL were 50.6% and 5.7%, respectively. The UV and FTIR analysis indicated that after been fermented by C. trogii TS01, S-unit content in EHL was decreased by 12.5% but G-unit content was increased by 53.7%. In conclusion, the research of this paper will provide a promising solution for the valorization of enzymatic hydrolysis lignin since the high biodegradation rate of lignin and high activity of ligninolytic enzymes could be achieved simultaneously.

ABSTRACT

Firefighting protective clothing is an essential equipment that can protect firefighters from burn injuries during the firefighting process. However, it is still a challenge to detect the damage of firefighting protective clothing at an early stage when firefighters are exposed to excessively high temperature in fire cases. Herein, an ultralight self-powered fire alarm electronic textile (SFA e-textile) based on conductive aerogel fiber that comprises calcium alginate (CA), Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs), and silver nanowires (Ag NWs) was developed, which achieved ultrasensitive temperature monitoring and energy harvesting in firefighting clothing. The resulting SFA e-textile was integrated into firefighting protective clothing to realize wide-range temperature sensing at 100-400 °C and repeatable fire warning capability, which could timely transmit an alarm signal to the wearer before the firefighting protective clothing malfunctioned in extreme fire environments. In addition, a self-powered fire self-rescue location system was further established based on the SFA e-textile that can help rescuers search and rescue trapped firefighters in fire cases. The power in the self-powered fire location system was offered by an SFA e-textile-based triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). This work provided a useful design strategy for the preparation of ultralight wearable temperature-monitoring SFA e-textile used in firefighting protective clothing.

ABSTRACT

Bio-based aerogel (polysaccharide cryogel) have led to a growing interest because of eco-friendliness, sustainability and excellent thermal insulation properties. Herein, we report an eco-friendly strategy to construct lightweight and porous sodium alginate/carboxymethyl cellulose/chitosan polysaccharide-based composite aerogels (SCC-B) by freeze-drying and post-cross-linking technology. The ester cross-linking of polysaccharide component achieved strong web-like entangled structure when using 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid and sodium hypophosphite as eco-friendly co-additives, meanwhile significantly improved flame retardancy of SCC-B due to phosphorylation. The thermal kinetic behavior of SCC-B was investigated by Flynn-Wall-Ozawa and Kissinger models. Results indicated that peak heat release rate and total heat release of SCC-B decreased from 30 W/g to 20 W/g and 15 kJ/g to 10 kJ/g, respectively. Furthermore, the second-degree burn time of SCC-B reached up to 87.1 s under heat exposure of 11.3 kW/m2. These characteristics combine to suggest hopeful prospects for use of SCC-B in the fields of fire-protection clothing as a renewable flame-retardant material.

ABSTRACT

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects 5% of children world-wide. Of these, two-thirds continue to have impairing symptoms of ADHD into adulthood. Although a large literature implicates structural brain differences of the disorder, it is not clear if adults with ADHD have similar neuroanatomical differences as those seen in children with recent reports from the large ENIGMA-ADHD consortium finding structural differences for children but not for adults. This paper uses deep learning neural network classification models to determine if there are neuroanatomical changes in the brains of children with ADHD that are also observed for adult ADHD, and vice versa. We found that structural MRI data can significantly separate ADHD from control participants for both children and adults. Consistent with the prior reports from ENIGMA-ADHD, prediction performance and effect sizes were better for the child than the adult samples. The model trained on adult samples significantly predicted ADHD in the child sample, suggesting that our model learned anatomical features that are common to ADHD in childhood and adulthood. These results support the continuity of ADHD's brain differences from childhood to adulthood. In addition, our work demonstrates a novel use of neural network classification models to test hypotheses about developmental continuity.

ABSTRACT

A novel fire-preventing triple-network (TN) hydrogel was prepared and laminated on cotton fabric to improve fire-resistant performance of cellulose fabric. The TN hydrogel composed of Poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)/sodium alginate (SA)/ Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) exhibited excellent swelling ratio, swelling-deswelling behavior and antibacterial property. Results indicated that introduction of SA could improve water retention capabilities of TN hydrogels. Thermogravimetric experiments showed that the thermal stability of hydrogels was best at a SA: PVA ratio of 2:1. Furthermore, the obtained hydrogel-cotton fabric laminates displayed efficient flame retardancy. Compared to original fabric, hydrogel-fabric laminates were nearly undamaged when exposed to fire for 12 s. This result is attributed to energy absorption as water is heated and evaporates in the hydrogel. The present work provides a new concept to prepare fire-resistant polymer fabric, which may be used in fire-protective clothing to protect the skin from burn injuries.

ABSTRACT

This study examined the mediating roles of both positive and negative affects in the relationship between sleep quality and self-control. A sample of 1,507 Chinese adults (37% men; mean age = 32.5 years) completed self-report questionnaires measuring sleep quality, positive and negative emotions, and self-control. Poor sleep quality was positively correlated with negative affect and negatively correlated with positive affect and self-control. Positive affect was positively correlated with self-control, while negative affect was negatively correlated with self-control. Both positive and negative affects significantly mediated the relationship between sleep quality and self-control. Improving individuals' sleep qualities may lead to more positive emotions and less negative emotion, and these mood changes may increase resources for self-control. Regulating positive and negative affects may reduce the negative effects of poor sleep quality on self-control.

The interactions of high-methoxyl pectin (HMP) and soybean-soluble polysaccharide (SSPS) with sodium caseinate-stabilized emulsions were investigated using a multitechnique approach, including dynamic light scattering (DLS), electrophoretic mobility measurements, transmission diffusing wave spectroscopy (DWS), and ultrasonic spectroscopy (US). At pH 6.8, both polysaccharides are negatively charged and did not adsorb onto caseinate-coated droplets due to electrostatic repulsion; however, SSPS showed a different behavior compared to HMP in the turbidity parameter 1/l* and sound attenuation parameters measured by DWS and US, respectively. The present study brought the first evidence of the stabilization effect of SSPS in acidified sodium caseinate-emulsions. While destabilization occurred at low polysaccharide concentrations, probably via bridging flocculation, acid-induced aggregation of the oil droplet was completely prevented by 0.2% SSPS or HMP. However, the interaction behavior of SSPS during acidification was different from that of HMP. This was demonstrated by the different development of the parameter 1/l*, droplet sizes, sound attenuation, and velocity.

A non-invasive technique, diffusing wave spectroscopy (DWS), and traditional dynamic light scattering (DLS) were used to study the interactions of high methoxyl pectin (HMP) with sodium caseinate-stabilized emulsion droplets. At pH 6.8, the droplet size measured by DLS did not change as a function of HMP concentration (up to 0.3%). However, the droplet diameter measured by DWS kept relatively constant up to 0.07% HMP after which it showed drastic increases. The turbidity parameter 1/l* decreased with HMP concentration and levelled off at 0.07% HMP, indicating that the system underwent reorganization and reached equilibrium at 0.07% HMP. During acidification at pH 5.4, right before the pH of aggregation of control emulsions, all emulsions containing 0.05-0.2% HMP showed an increase of 1/l*. This increase indicated the interaction of HMP with sodium caseinate at the interface. Emulsions containing 0.05 and 0.1% HMP also showed destabilization, and the pH of destabilization depended on the concentration of HMP. Sufficient amounts of HMP (0.2%) stabilized the caseinate-coated oil droplets, and the mean square displacement slope was close to 1 throughout, indicating free diffusion of emulsion droplets.

ABSTRACT

Pectins are negatively charged polysaccharides employed as stabilizers in acidified milk dispersions, where caseins aggregate because of the low pH and serum separation needs to be prevented. The objective of this research was to study the effect of charge on the stabilizing functionality of the polysaccharide in acid milk drinks. Unstandardized pectins with various charges (as degree of esterification, DE) as well as soybean soluble polysaccharide (SSPS) were tested for their stabilizing behavior as a function of pH and concentration. Skim milk was acidified by glucono-delta-lactone and then homogenized in the presence of polysaccharide at different pH values (in the range from 4.2 to 3.0). Measurements of particle size distribution demonstrated that pectins with a DE of 71.4, 68.6, and 67.4 stabilized milk at pH > 4.0. Pectins with a lower DE (63.9%) needed a higher concentration (0.4%) at the same pH to show a monomodal distribution of particle sizes. Pectins with lower DE (<50%) did not stabilize the dispersions. Although this difference in behavior was attributed mainly to the pectin charge, the efficiency in stabilizing the casein dispersion decreased with decreasing pectin size. For example, the high methoxyl pectin (HMP) with 63.9 DE was smaller in size than the HMPs with a higher charge. Pectins showed a pH-dependent stabilization effect, as at pH < 4.0 the dispersions contained aggregates. When SSPS was used to stabilize acid milk, at pH < 4.0, it showed a better stabilization behavior than HMP. When SSPS and pectin were used in combination, the particle size distribution of the acid milk dispersion was pH-dependent, and results were similar to those for samples containing pectin alone. This suggested that in the mixture, pectin dominated the behavior over SSPS, even when an excess of SSPS was added to the dispersions before homogenization.
