ABSTRACT

Objective: In order to understand the changing trends of gastric cancer incidence and mortality in early-onset and late-onset in China from 2000 to 2019. Methods: The Global Burden of Disease research data was collected, and Excel and R 4.2.1 softwares were used to examine the incidence rate, mortality rate, and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) of Chinese people from 2000 to 2019, with a focus on gender, age, and year. Results: In 2019, the crude incidence rates were 7.06/100 000 (95%UI: 6.63/100 000-7.59/100 000) and 114.52/100 000 (95%UI: 108.79/100 000-121.63/100 000) for early- and late-onset gastric cancer, respectively. The crude mortality rate for early-onset gastric cancer was 3.29/100 000 (95%UI: 3.11/100 000- 3.50/100 000), while the crude mortality rate for late-onset gastric cancer was 81.88/100 000 (95%UI: 78.15/100 000-86.04/100 000). Additionally, the crude DALY rates for these two types of gastric cancer were 156.48/100 000 (95%UI: 148.82/100 000-165.84/100 000) and 1 750.13/100 000 (95%UI: 1 661.21/100 000-1 852.99/100 000). The standardized incidence of early-onset gastric cancer decreased from 5.49/100 000 in 2000 to 4.76/100 000 in 2019, and that of late-onset gastric cancer decreased from 143.45/100 000 in 2000 to 123.02/100 000 in 2019.The standardized mortality rate of early-onset gastric cancer decreased from 4.16/100 000 in 2000 to 2.18/100 000 in 2019, and that of late-onset gastric cancer decreased from 140.82/100 000 in 2000 to 91.49/100 000 in 2019. The standardized DALY rate for early-onset gastric cancer in 2019 was 105.87/100 000 (95%UI: 87.98/100 000 -125.60/100 000), lower than 198.84/100 000 (95%UI: 179.47/100 000- 219.83/100 000) in 2000. The standardized DALY rate for late onset gastric cancer in 2019 was 1 821.11/100 000 (95%UI: 1 509.42/100 000-2 158.53/100 000), lower than 2 932.52/100 000 (95%UI: 2 665.92/100 000-3 252.60/100 000) in 2000. Conclusions: The standardized mortality rate of early-onset gastric cancer in China showed a decreasing trend from 2000 to 2019. The standardized mortality rate of late onset gastric cancer showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing. Notably, the incidence, mortality, and DALY of late-onset gastric cancer were significantly higher than those of early-onset gastric cancer during this period. Additionally, male incidence, mortality, and crude DALY rates were higher than female.

ABSTRACT

Obesity has become one of the most serious public health problems worldwide, and an increasing number of studies indicate that the gut microbiota can affect host metabolism. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate whether long-term use of probiotics can alleviate host obesity and metabolism by altering gut microbiota. The high-fat diet (HFD) starting from weaned period led to higher levels of visceral fat and a significantly heavier liver in male mice. Moreover, HFD resulted in disorders of glucose and lipid metabolism, changes in insulin-resistance indices (IR), and an increase in serum insulin and leptin in mice. Of note, 15 weeks use of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei N1115 decreased visceral fat, liver weight, serum levels of insulin and leptin, and IR and alleviated lipid dysmetabolism. HFD resulted in a significant increase in the relative abundance of Bilophila, Lachnoclostridium, and Blautia and may decrease the faecal short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) levels in mice; in turn, treatment with the potential probiotic strain L. paracasei N1115 protected mice from these negative effects. HFD significant impaired the physiology of the host especially in male mice and dramatically changed the composition of host gut microbiota. However, the use of potential probiotic strain, such as L. paracasei N1115, may prevent these impairments due to HFD via effecting the host gut microbiota and SCFA.

ABSTRACT

With cancer stem cells (CSCs) became the research hotspot, emerging studies attempt to reveal the functions of these special subsets in tumorigenesis. Although various approaches have been used in CSCs researches, only a few could really reflect or simulate the microenvironment in vivo. At present, CSCs theories are still difficult to apply for clinical remedy because CSCs subpopulations are always hard to identify and trace. Thus an ideal approach for clinicians and researchers is urgently needed. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), as the method of noninvasive-liquid biopsy, could be detected in the peripheral blood (PB) from many tumors and even could be treated as procurators for CSCs deeper researches from patient-derived sample. However, CTCs, as a diagnostic marker, also raise much controversy over theirs clinical value. Mechanisms causing CTCs to shed from the tumor have not been fully characterized, thus it is unclear whether CTCs represent the entire makeup of cancer cells in the tumor or only a subset. The heterogeneity of CTCs also caused different clinical outcomes. To overcome these unsolved problems, recently, CTC researches are not just depend on enumerations, whereas those CTC subsets that could expand in vitro may play a pivotal role in the metastatic cascade. Here, we retrospect the CTC developmental history and discourse upon the enrichment of viable CTCs in functional assays, probe the further avenue at the crossroad.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the clinical characteristics of 22 cases of malignant laryngeal tumor manifested as smooth mass, and explore the diagnosis, pathological types and treatment of the disease.Method:Manifested as smooth mass, 22 cases diagnosed as malignant or borderline tumor by biopsy were collected to summarize the characteristics of pathology, treatment and prognosis. Result:The sex ratio was 13∶9. Eleven cases were diagnosed as malignant tumors of epithelial or mesenchymal origin, 7 cases of tumors of lymphoid hematopoietic system, 4 cases of borderline tumor.Thirteen patients received surgical treatment, and recurrence was not found in postoperative follow-up.Nine patients received radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy, 7 of them were in remission while 2 cases presented progression and metastasis of cervical lymph nodes. Conclusion:Because of lacking typical clinical manifestations in early stage, smooth mass of larynx often easily lead to misdiagnosis. If found and operated early, the prognosis can be satisfied, but the treatment outcome of lymphoma is poor.

ABSTRACT

Malignant rhabdoid tumors(MRTs) are most commonly found in the kidneys of young children, and the prognosis is very poor. Here,we present a case of primary MRT of the maxillary sinus, which is an extremely rare and scarcely been reported.A 56-year-old male complained of repeated epistaxis for over 1 year duration.CT scan showed soft tissue density in the paranasal sinus, and no obvious bone resorption or damage was observed. The patient underwent endoscopic sinus surgery.Postoperative biopsy showed undifferentiated malignant neoplasm with features of rhabdoid differentiation. Immunohistochemistry(IHC) was positive for the expression of vimentin but negative for desmin, pan CK and S-100. Histopathological examination and IHC analysis supported the diagnosis of MRT..

ABSTRACT

Compared with conventional DGA (dissolved gas analysis) method for on-line monitoring of power transformers, FBG (fiber Bragg grating) hydrogen sensor represents marked advantages over immunity to electromagnetic field, time-saving, and convenience to defect location. Thus, a novel FBG hydrogen sensor based on Pd/Ag (Palladium/Silver) along with polyimide composite film to measure dissolved hydrogen concentration in large power transformers is proposed in this article. With the help of Pd/Ag composite coating, the enhanced performance on mechanical strength and sensitivity is demonstrated, moreover, the response time and sensitivity influenced by oil temperature are solved by correction lines. Sensitivity measurement and temperature calibration of the specific hydrogen sensor have been done respectively in the lab. And experiment results show a high sensitivity of 0.055 pm/(µl/l) with instant response time about 0.4 h under the typical operating temperature of power transformers, which proves a potential utilization inside power transformers to monitor the health status by detecting the dissolved hydrogen concentration.
