ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Aesthetic surgical reconstruction of auricular keloids is still a conundrum. This study introduces our experiences in analyzing the anatomic morphological features of auricular keloids, and devising optimized surgical procedures accordingly. METHODS: A total of 129 ears with auricular keloids were classified and operated. All patients were followed up for at least 12 months. RESULTS: According to their anatomic positions, auricular keloids were divided into 3 Groups (A, B, and C). The morphological features of keloids were further interpreted according to Chang-Park classification of earlobe keloids. The authors optimized surgical procedures according to the anatomic morphological features from a range of surgical techniques. The recurrence rate of Group C was statistically higher than Group A and B. There was no significant difference in recurrence rate between keloids treated with "primary suture" and "filleted flaps." CONCLUSIONS: According to the anatomic positions and morphological features of auricular keloids, we could conveniently devise optimized surgical strategies to obtain aesthetic reconstruction of auricular keloids.

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to investigate whether 4e-binding protein 1 is activated during temporal lobe epileptogenesis. We used the hippocampus of patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), diagnosed with hippocampal sclerosis (HS) or non-HS, to examine the distribution of phospho-4e-binding protein 1 (p4EBP1) by immunohistochemical staining (n=3-5). We also examined p4EBP1 in the kainic acid (KA)-induced mouse model of TLE before and after anticonvulsant treatment (n=3 per group). The results showed that the hippocampus of both patients with HS and KA mouse model displayed significantly upregulated p4EBP1 immunoreactivity in glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive astrocytes in hippocampus. Quantitative results showed that there is a 5.9-fold upregulation in the number of p4EBP1+glia-like cells in TLE group than control group (P<0.05). However, treatment with lamotrigine failed to suppress spontaneous seizures and did not affect the astrocytic distribution of p4EBP1 (P=0.73). Taken together, we investigated the spatiotemporal expression of p4EBP1 in the sclerotic hippocampus of both patients and a KA-induced mouse model and found glia activation of 4e-binding protein 1 in TLE. Our findings suggest that the upregulation of p4EBP1 in astrocytes may play a critical role in the pathogenesis of TLE.

ABSTRACT

Flow cytometry (FCM) is used for multi parameter and rapid quantitative analysis of biological particles, such as all cells, microorganisms and synthetic microspheres in fast line flow state. It is also a modern cell analysis technology for the separation of specific groups. In recent years,FCM has been applied in the field of assisted reproductive medicine.FCM plays an important role in the diagnosis of immune infertility and predicting the fertilization ability of sperm. This article aims to review FCM application in peripheral immune cell surface marker detection for infertility patients, and research on the structure and function of sperm cell.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To establish the GC fingerprint chromatography of Angong Niuhuang pills. Methods: An HP-50 quartz capillary column was used, and the temperature injector and detector was 300℃. The column temperature was programmed raised, and the flow rate was 1.0 ml·min-1. Totally 10 batches of samples were analyzed and the GC fingerprint of Angong Niuhuang pills was es-tablished. Results:Totally 9 common peaks were marked in the fingerprint and the similarity of Angong Niuhuang pills was above 0.9. Conclusion:The method is simple, accurate and fast, which provides experimental basis for the quality control of Angong Niuhuang pills.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationship between fractional anisotropy (FA) of corticospinal tract (CST) and motor function in stroke patients using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Methods From January, 2013 to October, 2016, 36 stroke patients were evaluated with Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Japan Upper Limb Function Test and DTI before and eight weeks after rehabilitation. FA in posterior limb of internal capsule, cerebral peduncle and pons were obtained, including ipsilesional and contralesional CST. Results The FA values within three sections of CST were significantly lower in the ipsilesional side than in the contralesional side both before and after rehabilitation (t>5.330, P0.05) in the ipsilesional side, as well as in all the sections in the contralesional side (t0.05). The FA values were positively correlated with the scores of FMA and Japan Upper Limb Function Test in all the sections both before and after rehabilitation (r>0.43, P<0.05), especially the relationship between the FA value and the score of Japan Upper Limb Function Test in the posterior limb of internal capsule (r=0.67). Conclusion DTI can be used to evaluate CST injury and the relationship be-tween CST injury and motor function.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To observe the relationship between injury of corticospinal cord tract (CST) in basal ganglia and upper limb func-tion after stroke using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Methods 18 stroke inpatients hospitalized from January, 2013 to July, 2015 accepted DTI, and their upper limb function was evaluated with simple Fugl-Meyer Assessment and Japan Upper Limb Function Test. The fractional anisotropy (FA) of CST in basal ganglia of affected and unaffected sides were compared, and the correlation between FA of affected CST and upper limb motor function were analyzed. Results The FA was significantly less in the affected CST than in the unaffected CST (t=-21.09, P<0.001). The FA of the affected CST correlated with the scores of simple Fugl-Meyer Assessment (r=0.570, P<0.05) and Japan Upper Limb Function Test (r=0.509, P<0.05). Conclusion CST is injured after stroke, which may related to the upper limbs motor function impairment.

ABSTRACT

Through the analysis on principles of dental panoramic radiography, we analyzed the influence factors of the dental arch, and provided the main principles for optimizing design to improve the image quality. Through the analysis on the human dental arch’s form, we optimized the radiographic procedure. Many factors affect the quality panoramic image, but the focal trough’s design is one of the most important factors, especially for canine regions. Optimizing design of focal trough can lessen degrees of horizontal and vertical magnification, also can reduce geometric distortion and overlapped images of teeth.
