ABSTRACT

The paper deals with noninvasive YAG-laser surgery that is used in the treatment of hemophthalmia, particularly hemophthalmia of posttraumatic genesis. A Visulas YAG laser unit ("Karl Zeiss") was used for YAG laser radiation. Its energy parameters were 0.8 to 9.2 mJ; 2-10 impulses; 1-30 laser treatment sessions. YAG-laser radiation affected the altered part of vitreous body: from fresh blood to the emergence of hemophthalmia as adhesions and conglomerates. YAG-laser applied to pathological vitreous body changes in hemophthalmia is effective and causes their elimination with subsequent lysis. YAG-laser vitreolysis is the operation of choice in traumatic hemophthalmia and may be used not only as an independent surgical technique, but also an additional one in the surgical and medical treatment of hemophthalmia. YAG-laser application to the vitreous body reduces the time of treatment for traumatic hemophthalmia.

ABSTRACT

Clinical informative value of computer echography for the differential diagnosis of severe intrauterine uveitis (68 children, 96 eyes), retinopathy neonatorum (37 children, 74 eyes), Coats' retinitis (35 children, 35 eyes), and retinoblastoma (17 children, 26 eyes) was studied in a group of 157 children (231 eyes) with opaque refracting media. Ultrasonic diagnostic equipment with a high level of computer support essentially improved the resolving capacity of echography and detected accessory acoustic signs of some congenital ocular diseases.

ABSTRACT

Research activities of Department of Ultrasound are carried out in cooperation with other departments of the institute. This paper sums up 30-year activities of the department on the utilization of ultrasound in ophthalmology with diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Ultrasound is a highly informative diagnostic and effective treatment modality in various ocular diseases.

ABSTRACT

Effects of an original Russian combined preparation proxofelin consisting of 1% proxodolol and 0.25% clofelin solutions on intraocular pressure, ocular hemodynamics, pupil size, depth of the anterior chamber, ocular functions, arterial pressure, and heart rate were studied in 59 patients (80 eyes) with primary open-angle glaucoma. The studies were carried out on day 1 after a single instillation of the drug and after 4-8 weeks of its regular use. Obvious hypotensive effect on intraocular pressure is due to a significant increase of the discharge efficacy coefficient (by 0.06 +/- 0.008) and a 40% suppression of aqueous humor production. Comparison of the efficacies of proxofelin and proxodolol in primary open-angle glaucoma showed the advantages of the combined drug. Unlike cloefelin, the drug was well tolerated.

ABSTRACT

One- and two-dimensional examination of the lens supplemented with biometry was carried out in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. Echobiometry revealed a relationship between the thickness of the lens and type of cataract. Analysis of echographic images of the lens and biomicroscopy findings demonstrated the value of this method for the early objective assessment of cataract progress in patients with glaucoma, specifically, after antiglaucoma surgery.

ABSTRACT

Effects of 1% anaprilin instillations on intraocular pressure, ocular hydro- and hemodynamics, anterior chamber depth, pupil width, ocular functions, systemic arterial pressure and pulse rate were studied in 57 patients (94 eyes) with primary open-angle glaucoma. Anaprilin has shown a manifest hypotensive effect, explained by depression of aqueous humor production. The drug did not influence the visual functions, pupil width, or anterior chamber depth. A synergic effect on intraocular pressure was observed when anaprilin was combined with pilocarpine or clopheline.
