ABSTRACT

Growing evidence has found the health protective effects of greenness exposure on tuberculosis (TB) and the impact of ambient air pollutants on TB drug-resistance. However, it remains unclear whether residential greenness is also beneficial to reduce TB drug-resistance, and whether air pollution modify the greenness-TB resistance relationship. We enrolled 5006 newly-diagnosed TB patients from Shandong, China, during 2014 to 2021. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) in 250 m and 500 m buffer around individuals' residential zone was used to assess greenness exposure. All patients were divided by quartiles of NDVI250-m and NDVI500-m (from low to high: Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) respectively. Six logistic regression models (NDVI, NDVI + PM2.5/PM10/SO2/NO2/O3) were used to estimate the association of NDVI and TB drug-resistance when adjusting different air pollutants or not. All models were adjusted for age, gender, body mass index, complications, smoking, drinking, population density, nighttime light index, road density. Compared with participants in NDVI250-m Q1 and NDVI500-m Q1, other groups had lower rates of MDR-TB, PDR-TB, RFP-resistance, SM-resistance, RFP + SM resistance, INH + RFP + EMB + SM resistance. NDVI500-m reduced the risk of multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and the adjusted odds ratio (aOR, 95% confidence interval, CI) compared with NDVI500-m Q1 were 0.736 (0.547-0.991) in NDVI + PM10 model, 0.733 (0.544-0.986) in NDVI + PM2.5 model, 0.735(0.546-0.99) in NDVI + SO2 model, 0.736 (0.546-0.991) in NDVI + NO2 model, respectively, P < 0.05. NDVI500-m contributed to a decreased risk of streptomycin (SM)-resistance. The aOR of rifampicin (RFP) + SM resistance were 0.132 (NDVI250-m, Q4 vs Q1, 95% CI: 0.03-0.578), 0.199 (NDVI500-m, Q3 vs. Q1, 95% CI: 0.057-0.688) and 0.264 (NDVI500-m, Q4 vs. Q1, 95% CI: 0.087-0.799). The adjusted ORs (Q2 vs. Q1, 95% CI) of isoniazid (INH) + RFP + ethambutol (EMB) + SM resistance in 500 m buffer were 0.276 (0.119-0.639) in NDVI model, 0.279 (0.11-0.705) in NDVI + PM10 model, 0.281 (0.111-0.713) in NDVI + PM2.5 model, 0.279 (0.11-0.709) in NDVI + SO2 model, 0.296 (0.117-0.754) in NDVI + NO2 model, 0.294 (0.116-0.748) in NDVI + O3 model, respectively. The study showed, for the first time, that residential greenness exposure in 500 m buffer is beneficial for reducing newly-diagnosed DR-TB (including PDR-RB, MDR-TB, MR-TB), and ambient air pollutants may partially mediate this association.

ABSTRACT

Human activity-induced landscape fragmentation seriously affects regional connectivity and biodiversity and hinders human well-being and sustainable development. These effects can be mitigated by the construction of ecological networks (ENs), but building extensive ENs requires cross-regional planning and coordination. Since ecosystems in different regions provide varying benefits to humans, optimizing ENs based on the quality of ecosystem services (ESs) is an effective way to rapidly improve regional landscape connectivity. In this study, we constructed an EN in the Yellow River Basin (YRB) according to landscape ecology and complex network theory, examined the network topology, measured three ESs using the InVEST model, and optimized the EN based on the coupling of EN topology and ES quality. In the YRB, the biodiversity index and carbon storage capacity were relatively higher and invariable. However, the wind-breaking and sand-fixing index was poorer, but it increased by 146 % during the study period. The number of ecological patches was roughly 48, accounting for about 40 % of the YRB region. From 1995 to 2020, the average ecological resistance decreased by 29 %, and the average number of corridors was 99, but the average corridor length first increased and then decreased. The number and area of ecological pinch points and barriers changed significantly. The EN topology strongly correlated with biodiversity and wind-breaking and sand-fixing, but not with carbon storage. In the face of random attacks, the optimized EN demonstrated significantly greater connectivity robustness. Under deliberate attacks, it exhibited better resilience and buffering power when the percentage of attacking nodes is in the 30 %-80 % range. For the ecological patches within a certain range of the attacking node, appropriate development and planning can be carried out in the future, while for the patches outside the range, strict ecological protection measures need to be implemented. This study provides theoretical references for improving EN planning efficiency and promoting synergistic cooperation in the YRB.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to describe the lineage-specific transmissibility and epidemiological migration of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in China. METHODS: We curated a large set of whole-genome sequences from 3204 M. tuberculosis isolates, including thousands of newly sequenced genomes, and applied a series of metrics to compare the transmissibility of M. tuberculosis strains between lineages and sublineages. The countrywide transmission patterns of major lineages were explored. RESULTS: We found that lineage 2 (L2) was the most prevalent lineage in China (85.7%), with the major sublineage 2.2.1 (80.9%), followed by lineage 4 (L4) (13.8%), which comprises major sublineages 4.2 (1.5%), 4.4 (6.2%) and 4.5 (5.8%). We showed evidence for frequent cross-regional spread and large cluster formation of L2.2.1 strains, whereas L4 strains were relatively geographically restricted in China. Next, we applied a series of genomic indices to evaluate M. tuberculosis strain transmissibility and uncovered higher transmissibility of L2.2.1 compared with the L2.2.2 and L4 sublineages. Phylogeographic analysis showed that southern, eastern, and northern China were highly connected regions for countrywide L2.2.1 strain spread. CONCLUSIONS: The present study provides insights into the different transmission and migration patterns of the major M. tuberculosis lineages in China and highlights that transmissible L2.2.1 is a threat to tuberculosis control.

ABSTRACT

Under the post Ford flexible production organization system, the existence of specialized division of labor has made the forward and backward connections between the producer services as an intermediate input and the manufacturing increasingly close. With the proposal of the "Belt and Road" and the deepening of "The development of the western region in China", the northwest region plays an increasingly important role in China's regional development strategy, and the economic transformation, especially the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing, and it is crucial to its completion of the strategic mission entrusted by the state. Taking Lanzhou City as a case area, based on the measurement of the cooperative development level of producer services and manufacturing, this paper explores the internal law of the synergetic development of producer services and manufacturing in the northwest inland central city. The study found: The overall synergy development level of producer services and manufacturing in Lanzhou has been significantly improved in the dynamic evolution process, and two industries are in the transition stage from the primary coordinated development to the intermediate coordinated development at present. The spatial layout of producer services and manufacturing in Lanzhou City has certain spatial proximity, and the overall presents a "center-periphery" spatial pattern with the main urban area as the main component. From the perspective of the synergistic development of producer services and manufacturing in Lanzhou, the two industries have initially formed an interactive relationship of two-way promotion at present, but there is a significant asymmetry in the two-way promoting effect of the two industries.

ABSTRACT

The rapid development of society and economy in the post-industrial era has exacerbated the spatial matching contradiction between the demand of humans and the supply of the natural environment, while ecosystem service (ES) as a bridge linking nature and society, identifying and assessing its supply-demand risk, was beneficial to ecosystem management and promoted regional high-quality development. Based on the data of multi-source remote sensing and statistics, the supply and demand levels of four ESs, which contain food supply, carbon storage, soil conservation, and water yield in the main stem of the Weihe River in 2000, 2010, and 2020, were quantitatively measured. The spatial and temporal analysis of the supply, demand, and supply-demand ratio of each service was carried out using spatial mapping. The spatio-temporal pattern of the supply-demand risk was recognized by the method of spatial overlay, which means overlaying the supply and demand for material quality, ratio, trend, and the degree of trade-off coordination together between each service. The results showed that (1) the demand for water yield decreased slightly while the demand for food and the supply of carbon storage remained stable. In addition, the supply and demand of other services showed an upward trend. (2) The spatial distribution of the supply-demand ratio of each service shows "high in the south and low in the north" and "high in the east and low in the west," among which the supply-demand ratio of carbon storage is decreasing. (3) The overall supply-demand risk of soil conservation in the study area is low with characteristics of small range and high degree, the risk distribution characteristics of the other services are high in the east and low in the west, and the risk is high in the city center and low around. Otherwise, the supply-demand risk of food supply showed a downward trend, the risk of carbon storage showed an upward trend, the risk of soil conservation remained stable, and the risk of water yield showed a significant downward trend. Based on static supply-demand risk identification, this study assesses supply-demand risk over two periods and analyzes the trend of supply-demand risk changes over time. It clarifies the extent and direction of supply-demand risk shifts, as well as provides improved theoretical support for ecosystem service management.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we fabricate ordered pore array (OPA) Ag film coated glass with the aid of polystyrene sphere (PS) array templates. This kind of OPA Ag coated glass has optical advantages of visible transparency, blue and near-infrared resistance. The average visible transmittance is 68%, including a transmission peak of 78% located at 570 nm, and low average transmittance of 48% in the blue light region that is not damaging to the eyes. The near-infrared light blocking rate is 67%, among which 40% light is reflected directly, indicating the reflection domination.
