ABSTRACT

A 60-year-old woman with a history of neurofibromatosis type 1, who was admitted with pulmonary hypertension, developed buttock pain and anemia, and contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed a large subcutaneous hematoma with minimal active extravasation. Angiography of the bilateral internal iliac arteries revealed diffuse, irregular blood vessels without extravasation. As the exact bleeding site could not be identified, the patient was managed conservatively. However, the patient's symptoms and anemia worsened the following day. Repeat angiography revealed two pseudoaneurysms in the right inferior gluteal artery, which were embolized using n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate. Nonetheless, the patient's anemia further worsened the following day. Repeat contrast-enhanced CT revealed another site of extravasation in the enlarging hematoma, but no extravasation was observed on the subsequent angiography. Owing to the worsening anemia and enlarging hematoma, proximal embolization of the irregular bilateral inferior gluteal arteries was performed using gelatin sponge particles. The patient's anemia and symptoms improved. Vasculopathy associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 is rare, with an incidence of approximately 3%. In patients with neurofibromatosis type 1, the blood vessels become fragile because of tunica media thinning and elastic-lamina rupture. Histopathologically, neurofibromatosis type 1-associated vasculopathy is characterized by a mixture of normal and abnormal vessels. Abnormally fragile blood vessels may repeatedly rupture followed by physiological hemostasis, which may explain the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges during angiography in this case. In patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 with acute bleeding, irregular vessels without active extravasation on angiography may be indicated for embolization.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to quantify the extent of pneumonia from chest CT scans, and to determine its ability to predict clinical deterioration or mortality in patients admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 in comparison to semi-quantitative visual scoring systems. METHODS: A deep-learning algorithm was utilized to quantify the pneumonia burden, while semi-quantitative pneumonia severity scores were estimated through visual means. The primary outcome was clinical deterioration, the composite end point including admission to the intensive care unit, need for invasive mechanical ventilation, or vasopressor therapy, as well as in-hospital death. RESULTS: The final population comprised 743 patients (mean age 65  ±â€¯ 17 years, 55% men), of whom 175 (23.5%) experienced clinical deterioration or death. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for predicting the primary outcome was significantly higher for AI-assisted quantitative pneumonia burden (0.739, p = 0.021) compared with the visual lobar severity score (0.711, p < 0.001) and visual segmental severity score (0.722, p = 0.042). AI-assisted pneumonia assessment exhibited lower performance when applied for calculation of the lobar severity score (AUC of 0.723, p = 0.021). Time taken for AI-assisted quantification of pneumonia burden was lower (38 ± 10 s) compared to that of visual lobar (328 ± 54 s, p < 0.001) and segmental (698 ± 147 s, p < 0.001) severity scores. CONCLUSION: Utilizing AI-assisted quantification of pneumonia burden from chest CT scans offers a more accurate prediction of clinical deterioration in patients with COVID-19 compared to semi-quantitative severity scores, while requiring only a fraction of the analysis time. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: Quantitative pneumonia burden assessed using AI demonstrated higher performance for predicting clinical deterioration compared to current semi-quantitative scoring systems. Such an AI system has the potential to be applied for image-based triage of COVID-19 patients in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Percutaneous intradiscal drainage had little established evidence to date. We assessed the outcomes of C-arm cone-beam CT-guided (CBCT-guided) procedures for spondylodiscitis and compare procedures with and without intradiscal drainage. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted on patients who underwent CBCT-guided procedures for spondylodiscitis with fluid collection in the intradiscal space between January 2010 and September 2021. Included patients were divided into two groups: with and without 'intradiscal drainage' (ID and non-ID, respectively). RESULTS: A total of 87 patients with thoracolumbar discitis (mean age 73.4 ± 12.3 years, 35 females) were included. There was no significant difference in clinical outcomes between groups. Although insignificant, a subgroup analysis of patients with discitis and psoas abscess showed a higher infection control success rate (81% (17/21) vs 58% (7/12), p = .23) and faster median C-reactive protein improvement (CRP <3 mg/dL: 12 vs 42 days, p = .11, CRP <1 mg/dL: 27 vs 45 days, p = .097) of ID than of non-ID. CONCLUSIONS: Findings did not clarify the role of intradiscal drainage when it was indicated in all cases of spondylodiscitis with fluid collection. Future studies with larger sample sizes of selected discitis cases are expected to demonstrate the superiority of intradiscal drainage.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Quantitative lung measures derived from computed tomography (CT) have been demonstrated to improve prognostication in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients but are not part of clinical routine because the required manual segmentation of lung lesions is prohibitively time consuming. We aim to automatically segment ground-glass opacities and high opacities (comprising consolidation and pleural effusion). Approach: We propose a new fully automated deep-learning framework for fast multi-class segmentation of lung lesions in COVID-19 pneumonia from both contrast and non-contrast CT images using convolutional long short-term memory (ConvLSTM) networks. Utilizing the expert annotations, model training was performed using five-fold cross-validation to segment COVID-19 lesions. The performance of the method was evaluated on CT datasets from 197 patients with a positive reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test result for SARS-CoV-2, 68 unseen test cases, and 695 independent controls. Results: Strong agreement between expert manual and automatic segmentation was obtained for lung lesions with a Dice score of 0.89 ± 0.07 ; excellent correlations of 0.93 and 0.98 for ground-glass opacity (GGO) and high opacity volumes, respectively, were obtained. In the external testing set of 68 patients, we observed a Dice score of 0.89 ± 0.06 as well as excellent correlations of 0.99 and 0.98 for GGO and high opacity volumes, respectively. Computations for a CT scan comprising 120 slices were performed under 3 s on a computer equipped with an NVIDIA TITAN RTX GPU. Diagnostically, the automated quantification of the lung burden % discriminate COVID-19 patients from controls with an area under the receiver operating curve of 0.96 (0.95-0.98). Conclusions: Our method allows for the rapid fully automated quantitative measurement of the pneumonia burden from CT, which can be used to rapidly assess the severity of COVID-19 pneumonia on chest CT.

In the external validation set of 67 patients, there was dice score coefficient of 0.767 ± 0.009 as well as excellent correlations of 0.989 and 0.996 for ground-glass opacity and high opacity volumes. Computations for a CT scan comprising 120 slices were performed under 2 seconds on a personal computer equipped with NVIDIA Titan RTX graphics processing unit. Therefore, our deep learning-based method allows rapid fully-automated quantitative measurement of pneumonia burden from CT and may generate the big data with an accuracy similar to the expert readers.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine MRI features and staging of neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the endometrium and evaluate survival. METHODS: Clinical data, pathological, and preoperative pelvic MRI findings in 22 patients with histologically surgery-proven endometrial NEC were retrospectively reviewed. Tumors were pure NEC (n = 10) or mixed histotype (n = 12), with 13 large and nine small cell type. RESULTS: International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging was I, II, III, and IV in 6, 2, 12, and 2 patients, respectively. In 13 (76.4%) of 17 patients with pathological deep myometrial invasion, MRI showed abnormal diffusely infiltrative high T2 signal intensity throughout the myometrium with loss of normal uterine architecture. All tumors had restricted diffusion (apparent diffusion coefficient map low signal intensity, diffusion weighted imaging high signal intensity). Accuracy of T staging by MRI for all cases was 81.8%, with reference to pathology staging, while patient-based sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for detecting metastatic pelvic lymph nodes was 60.0%, 100%, and 77.8%, respectively. Two intrapelvic peritoneal dissemination cases were detected by MRI. During follow-up (mean 30.4, range 3.3-138.4 months), 16 patients (72.7%) experienced recurrence and 12 (54.5%) died of disease. Two-year disease-free and overall survival rates for FIGO I, II, III, and IV were 66.7% and 83.3%, 50% and 100%, 10% and 33.3%, and 0% and 0%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Abnormal diffusely infiltrative high T2 signal intensity throughout the myometrium with normal uterine architecture loss and obvious restricted diffusion throughout the tumor are suggestive features of endometrial NEC. Pelvic MRI is reliable for intrapelvic staging of affected patients.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the uterine cervix cases for MRI features and staging, as well as pathological correlations and survival. RESULTS: FIGO was I in 42, II in 14, III in 1, and IV in 5 patients. T2-weighted MRI showed homogeneous slightly high signal intensity and obvious restricted diffusion (ADC map, low intensity; DWI, high intensity) throughout the tumor in most cases, and mild enhancement in two-thirds. In 50 patients who underwent a radical hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy without neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), intrapelvic T staging by MRI overall accuracy was 88.0% with reference to pathology staging, while patient-based sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for metastatic pelvic lymph node detection was 38.5%, 100%, and 83.3%, respectively. During a mean follow-up period of 45.6 months (range 4.3-151.0 months), 28 patients (45.2%) experienced recurrence and 24 (38.7%) died. Three-year progression-free and overall survival rates for FIGO I, II, III, and IV were 64.3% and 80.9%, 50% and 64.3%, 0% and 0%, and 0% and 0%, respectively. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-two patients with histologically surgery-proven uterine cervical NEC were enrolled. Twelve received NAC. Clinical data, pathological findings, and pretreatment pelvic MRI findings were retrospectively reviewed. Thirty-two tumors were pure NEC and 30 mixed with other histotypes. The NECs were small cell type (41), large cell type (18), or a mixture of both (3). CONCLUSIONS: Homogeneous lesion texture with obvious restricted diffusion throughout the tumor are features suggestive of cervical NEC. Our findings show that MRI is reliable for T staging of cervical NEC.

BACKGROUND: Hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (HEH) is rare; it is reported in < 1 person in 1,000,000 individuals. For accurate diagnosis, information regarding multiple graphic modalities in HEH is required. However, there is very little information concerning Sonazoid® contrast enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in HEH. CASE PRESENTATION: The present report describes the histologically proven three HEH cases evaluated using Sonazoid® CEUS. Case 1 was a 33-year-old female patient with no relevant past medical history, who experienced right upper quadrant pain. Conventional abdominal US revealed multiple low echoic liver nodules with vague borderlines. In CEUS, the vascularity of the nodules was similar to that seen in the neighboring normal liver. Later in the portal venous and late phases (PVLP) and post vascular phase, washout of Sonazoid® was detected in the nodules. Case 2 was a 93-year-old female patient with a previous medical history including operations for breast cancer and ovary cancer in her 50's. Conventional abdominal US revealed multiple low echoic nodules, some of which contained cystic lesions. In the early vascular phase of CEUS, nodules excluding the central anechoic regions were enhanced from peripheral sites. Although the enhancement inside the nodules persisted in both the PVLP and post vascular phase, anechoic areas in the center of some nodules were not enhanced at all. Case 3 was a 39-year-old male patient presented with right upper-quadrant pain, without any relevant past medical history. Conventional abdominal US revealed multiple low echoic liver nodules. In the early vascular phase of CEUS, nodules were gradually enhanced from the peripheral sites as ringed enhancement. Sonazoid®was washed out from the nodules in the PVLP and post vascular phase. CONCLUSIONS: The most important feature was peripheral enhancement in the early vascular phase. In case 2, the enhancement of the parenchyma of liver nodules persisted even in the PVLP; indicating the lower degree of malignant potential than others. Actually, the tumors did not extend without any treatment in case 2. Since case 2 is the first case report of HEH with cystic lesions, in patients with liver nodules including cystic lesions, HEH is a potential diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To retrospectively evaluate the utility of fusion images of pre- and post-ablation hepatobiliary phase (HBP) series to assess the ablation margins after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs). Additionally, to identify factors indicative of an adequate ablation margin and predictors of local tumor progression (LTP). METHODS: Fifty-nine HCCs in 29 patients were treated by RFA and followed-up for > 1 year (mean 37.9 months). Fusion images of pre- and post-ablation HBP series were created using a non-rigid registration and manual correlation. The ablation margin appearance was classified as ablation margin + (ablation margin completely surrounding the tumor), ablation margin-zero (a partially discontinuous ablation margin without protrusion of HCC), ablation margin-(a partially discontinuous ablation margin with protrusion of HCC), and indeterminate (index tumor was not visible). The minimal ablation margin was measured, and clinical factors were examined to identify other risk factors for LTP. RESULTS: LTP was observed at follow-up in 12 tumors. The mean minimal ablation margin was 3.6 mm. Multivariate analysis revealed that the ablation margin status was the only significant factor (p = 0.028). The cumulative LTP rates (3.3%, 3.3%, and 3.3% at 1, 2, and 3 years, respectively) in 30 ablation margin + nodules were significantly lower (p = 0.006) than those (20.0%, 28.0%, and 32.2% at 1, 2, and 3 years, respectively) in 25 ablation margin-zero nodules. CONCLUSIONS: Fusion images enable an early assessment of the ablation efficacy in the majority of HCCs. The ablation margin status is a significant factor for LTP.

ABSTRACT

Intracystic papillary neoplasm (ICPN) of gallbladder is a comparatively new concept and is described as pre-malignant lesions in Nakanuma et al. (In: Bosman et al. (eds) WHO Classification of Tumours of the Digestive System, World Health Organization of Tumours, IARC, Lyon, 2010). ICPN with high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia is understood to include intraepithelial carcinoma or noninvasive carcinoma. And lesions with invasive cancer components are classified as ICPN with an associated invasive carcinoma [1]. According to Adsay et al., more than half of patients diagnosed with ICPN have invasive cancer components (Adsay et al., Am J Surg Pathol 36:1279-1301, 2012).Polypoid masses in the gallbladder including benign, malignant, and non-neoplastic lesions have been called gallbladder polyps, and ICPN is also a polypoid lesion in the gallbladder. However, it is difficult to differentiate between them. In the literature, it is said that the possibility of malignancy is high in lesions exceeding 1 cm (Terzi et al., Surgery 127:622-627, 2000). And there are few reports on characteristic imaging findings of ICPN.We have experienced three cases (two females and one male) of ICPN and report our imaging findings. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed large papillary polypoid lesions approximately 2-4 cm in size in the gallbladder. Findings suggestive of deformation of the gallbladder wall and extrinsic progression were absent in all cases. T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging revealed intense signals and diffusion-weighted imaging showed high intensity. Expanding of the gallbladder was seen in case 1, and a tumor stalk-like appearance was seen in the papillary mass in cases 2 and 3. Surgery was performed in all three cases and ICPN was diagnosed pathologically. The cancer was localized to the mucosa, with no infiltration of surrounding tissue in all three cases.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the usefulness of computed tomographic (CT) features for identifying acute torsion of uterine subserosal leiomyoma (USL). SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We analyzed contrast-enhanced CT examinations of 7 USLs with torsion and 44 USLs without torsion. Two radiologists evaluated the CT features, which consisted of poor contrast enhancement inside the USL, thin rim enhancement around the USL, calcification within the USL, a beak sign between the uterus and USL, fan-shaped poor contrast enhancement in the uterus area adjacent to the USL (dark fan sign), and ascites. We analyzed the frequencies of these CT features in the USLs with versus without torsion using Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: The respective frequencies of CT features in USLs with and without torsion were as follows: poor contrast enhancement, 86 and 5% (P = 0.001); thin rim enhancement, 71 and 9% (P = 0.001); calcification, 29 and 18% (P = 0.61); beak sign, 57 and 86% (P = 0.10); dark fan sign, 57 and 0% (P = 0.001); and ascites, 100 and 20% (P = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The CT features of poor contrast enhancement, thin rim enhancement, and dark fan sign are valuable for identifying acute torsion of USL.

BACKGROUND: The diagnostic performances of the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) ultrasound-based logistic regression model (LR2) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in discriminating between benign and malignant adnexal masses have not been directly compared in a single study. METHODS: Using the IOTA LR2 model and subjective interpretation of MRI findings by experienced radiologists, 265 consecutive patients with adnexal masses were preoperatively evaluated in two hospitals between February 2014 and December 2015. Definitive histological diagnosis of excised tissues was used as a gold standard. RESULTS: From the 265 study subjects, 54 (20.4%) tumors were histologically diagnosed as malignant (including 11 borderline and 3 metastatic tumors). Preoperative diagnoses of malignant tumors showed 91.7% total agreement between IOTA LR2 and MRI, with a kappa value of 0.77 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.68-0.86]. Sensitivity of IOTA LR2 (0.94, 95% CI, 0.85-0.98) for predicting malignant tumors was similar to that of MRI (0.96, 95% CI, 0.87-0.99; P = 0.99), whereas specificity of IOTA LR2 (0.98, 95% CI, 0.95-0.99) was significantly higher than that of MRI (0.91, 95% CI, 0.87-0.95; P = 0.002). Combined IOTA LR2 and MRI results gave the greatest sensitivity (1.00, 95% CI, 0.93-1.00) and had similar specificity (0.91, 95% CI, 0.86-0.94) to MRI. CONCLUSIONS: The IOTA LR2 model had a similar sensitivity to MRI for discriminating between benign and malignant tumors and a higher specificity compared with MRI. Our findings suggest that the IOTA LR2 model, either alone or in conjunction with MRI, should be included in preoperative evaluation of adnexal masses.

The efficacy of selegiline monotherapy for drug-naïve Parkinson's disease (PD) patients may depend on the degree of dopaminergic neuronal degeneration. 123I-Ioflupane single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) myocardial scintigraphy are diagnostic methods to assess the pharmacological and pathological changes in PD. Objective: We examined the utility of these imaging methods to predict the efficacy of selegiline monotherapy for motor symptoms in drug-naïve PD patients. Methods: We observed the efficacy of selegiline monotherapy in 28 drug-naïve PD patients and compared the improvement in motor function and the imaging findings. These patients received selegiline monotherapy, and the amount was increased to the optimal dose in clinical practice. Motor function was assessed using the Unified Parkinson's Rating Scale (UPDRS) at baseline and at the stable dose. Imaging was performed before treatment, and the striatal Specific Binding Ratio (SBR) of the 123I-Ioflupane SPECT and the Heart-to-Mediastinum (H/M) ratio of the 123I-MIBG myocardial scintigraphy were calculated. Both ratios were compared with improvements in scores for motor assessment using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The mean UPDRS part III score significantly improved with at least 5.0 mg/day of selegiline. Further dose escalation did not improve the mean motor score. The percent improvement in the motor score from baseline showed a significant negative correlation with the SBR of average of the right and left striatum, but not with the H/M ratio. Multiple regression analysis using patient's background factors showed that percent improvement in the UPDRS part III score directly correlate with the SBR (p = 0.04), but not with the age (p = 0.72), disease duration (p = 0.31), baseline UPDRS part III (p = 0.77) and the drug dose (p = 0.26). Conclusion: PD patients with a lower accumulation of 123I-Ioflupane in the striatum can have greater improvement with selegiline monotherapy.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To survey whether imaging is being performed appropriately in Japan, and to survey whether radiologists intervene to ensure imaging requests are appropriate. METHODS: An online survey was sent to radiologists at accredited radiology training hospitals. The survey included the radiologists' perspectives on whether imaging is performed appropriately at their institutions and whether they intervene if the indication for imaging is inappropriate/ambiguous. RESULTS: The response rate was 87.3% (165/189). We observed marked variability in the frequencies that imaging not recommended by the guidelines was performed among modalities and/or body parts; the responses "very frequently/frequently performed" were more common for breast cancer related imaging examinations and for head CT/MRI. The respondents frequently reported that inappropriate/ambiguous indications included requests to expand the craniocaudal range or to perform whole-body imaging. In 80% of the hospitals (132/165), radiologists contacted the physicians who requested unrecommended examinations; the number of CT and MRI examinations that full-time radiologists need to interpret in a half-day session was significantly smaller at these hospitals (median 18 vs 24, P = 0.032). CONCLUSION: We conducted a survey to investigate appropriate imaging utilization in Japan. At the hospitals with numerous examinations to interpret, full-time radiologists may find it difficult to ensure that examinations are ordered appropriately.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate morphological and signal intensity (SI) changes of placental insufficiency on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to assess morphological changes and decreased flow voids (FVs) on T2-weighted rapid acquisition with relaxation enhancement (RARE) images for diagnosing placental insufficiency. METHODS: Fifty singleton fetuses underwent MRI using a 1.5-T MR scanner. Placental thickness, area, volume, SI, amniotic fluid SI, and size of FVs between the uterus and the placenta were measured on MR images. Two radiologists reviewed T2-weighted RARE images for globular appearance of the placenta and FVs between the uterus and the placenta. Data were analyzed using t-tests, McNemar's tests, and areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) at 5% level of significance. RESULTS: Twenty-five of the 50 pregnancies were categorized as having an insufficient placenta. Significant differences were observed between insufficient and normal placentas in mean placental thickness, area, volume, placenta to amniotic fluid SI ratio, and size of FVs (49.0 mm vs. 36.9 mm, 1.62 × 10(4) mm(2) vs. 2.67 × 10(4) mm(2), 5.13 × 10(5) mm(3) vs. 6.56 × 10(5) mm(3), 0.549 vs. 0.685, and 3.4 mm vs. 4.3 mm, respectively). The sensitivity and accuracy using globular appearance plus decreased FVs were greater than those using decreased FVs (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference among AUCs using globular appearance and decreased FVs, and globular appearance plus decreased FVs. CONCLUSIONS: Placental insufficiency was associated with placental thickness, area, volume, placenta to amniotic fluid SI ratio, and size of FVs. Evaluating FVs on T2-weighted RARE images can be useful for detecting placental insufficiency, particularly in placentas without globular appearance on MR images.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: We evaluated the ability of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) at 3 tesla for diagnosing T stage and detecting stalks in bladder cancer. METHODS: In total, 39 consecutive patients with bladder tumors underwent magnetic resonance (MR) imaging that included T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and DWI using a 3T MR scanner. Two radiologists interpreted T2WI plus DWI and T2WI for diagnosis of T stage and for detection of stalks. We used McNemar's test to examine differences in diagnostic performance and Fisher's exact test to evaluate differences in stalk detection frequency. RESULTS: Specificity and accuracy in differentiating T1 tumors from T2 to T4 tumors were significantly better with T2WI plus DWI (83% [20/24] and 85% [33/39]) than T2WI (50% [12/24] and 67% [26/39]; P = 0.02), and accuracy for diagnosing tumor stage was significantly better with T2WI plus DWI (82% [32/39]) than T2WI alone (59% [23/39]; P = 0.03). The observers identified stalks in 11 tumors by T2WI (48% [11/23]) and 17 by DWI (74% [17/23]) (P < 0.03). CONCLUSION: DWI at 3T was superior to T2WI for evaluating the T stage of bladder cancer, particularly in differentiating T1 tumors from those T2 or higher, and in detecting stalks of papillary bladder tumors.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of 3.0-T diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for detection of prostate cancer by using different b-values. METHODS: Seventy-three patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 3.0 T. Three MRI sets were reviewed by two radiologists: MRI and DWI (b = 500 s/mm(2)) (protocol A), MRI and DWI (b = 1000 s/mm(2)) (protocol B), and MRI and DWI (b = 2000s/mm(2)) (protocol C). Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) were calculated. RESULTS: The mean of the AUCs in protocol C was larger than those in protocol A and in protocol B (P<.05). CONCLUSION: DWI (b = 2000s/mm(2)) at 3.0 T can improve the diagnostic accuracy for detection of prostate cancer.
