ABSTRACT

Introdução: A queimadura profunda frequentemente provoca cicatrizes desfigurantes e disfuncionais, com impacto socioeconômico significativo. Diante deste cenário, o objetivo deste estudo foi a caracterização epidemiológica da população acometida e tratada de sequelas de queimaduras no nosso serviço. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo retrospectivo baseado na revisão de prontuários, realizado no período de janeiro de 2007 a março de 2013. Resultados: Foram analisados 160 prontuários, dos quais 47,5% eram do sexo feminino e 52,5%, do sexo masculino. As sequelas mais prevalentes foram cicatriz hipertrófica e brida. A área mais acometida foi a mão e o principal tratamento cirúrgico empregado foi a zetaplastia. Conclusões: A prevalência de sequelas de queimaduras ocorre na faixa etária jovem e a principal área anatômica acometida é a mão, o que consiste em um fator de impacto socioeconômico.


Introduction: The deep burn often causes deformed and dysfunctional scars, with significant socioeconomic impact. Given this scenario, the objective of this study was to characterize the epidemiology of the population affected and the sequelae of burns treated in our department. Methods: This was a retrospective study based on medical registers review, conducted from January 2007 to March 2013. Results: 160 medical registers have been analyzed of which 47,5% were female and 52,5% were male. The most prevalent sequelae were hypertrophic scar and contracture. The most affected area was the hand and the most employed surgical treatment was zetaplasty. Conclusions: The prevalence of burn scars is higher in the younger age group and the main affected anatomical site is the hand, which is a factor of socioeconomic impact.

BACKGROUND: The orbital region is of vital importance to facial expression. Brow ptosis, besides having an impact on facial harmony, is a sign of aging. Various surgical techniques have been developed to increase the efficacy of brow-lift surgery. However, no consensus method exists for an objective measurement of the eyebrow position due to the curvature of the face. Therefore, this study aimed to establish a method for measuring the eyebrow position using computerized photogrammetry. METHODS: For this study, 20 orbital regions of 10 volunteers were measured by direct anthropometry using a digital caliper and by indirect anthropometry (computerized photogrammetry) using standardized digital photographs. Lines, points, and distances were defined based on the position of the anthropometric landmarks endocanthion and exocanthion and then used to calculate the brow position index (BPI). Statistical analysis was performed using Student's t test with a significance level of 5 %. RESULTS: The BPI values obtained by computerized photogrammetric measurements did not differ significantly from those obtained by direct anthropometric measurements (p > 0.05). The mean BPI was 84.89 ± 10.30 for the computerized photogrammetric measurements and 85.27 ± 10.67 for the direct anthropometric measurements. CONCLUSION: The BPI defined in this study and obtained by computerized photogrammetry is a reproducible and efficient method for measuring the eyebrow position.
