ABSTRACT

Background: Chinese nurses working with immense stress may have issues with burnout during COVID-19 regular prevention and control. There were a few studies investigating status of burnout and associated factors among Chinese nurses. However, the relationships remained unclear. Objectives: To investigate status and associated factors of nurses' burnout during COVID-19 regular prevention and control. Methods: 784 nurses completed questionnaires including demographics, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Insomnia Severity Index, Impact of Event Scale-revised, Perceived Social Support Scale, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, General Self-efficacy Scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory. Results: 310 (39.5%), 393 (50.1%) and 576 (73.5%) of respondents were at high risk of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and reduced personal accomplishment (PA). The risk of EE, DP and reduced PA were moderate, high and high. Nurses with intermediate and senior professional rank and title and worked >40 h every week had lower scores in EE. Those worked in low-risk department reported lower scores in PA. Anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), self-efficacy and social support were influencing factors of EE and DP, while social support and resilience were associated factors of PA. Conclusion: Chinese nurses' burnout during COVID-19 regular prevention and control was serious. Professional rank and title, working unit, weekly working hours, anxiety, PTSD, self-efficacy, social support and resilience were associated factors of burnout.

ABSTRACT

The development of highly active and stable electrode materials for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is essential for the widespread application of electrochemical energy conversion systems. In recent years, various metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with self-supporting array structures have been extensively studied because of their high porosity, abundant metal sites, and flexible and adjustable structures. This review provides an overview of the recent progress in the design, preparation, and applications of MOF-based nanoarrays for the OER, beginning with the introduction of the architectural advantages of the nanoarrays and the characteristics of MOFs. Subsequently, the design principles of robust and efficient MOF-based nanoarrays as OER electrodes are highlighted. Furthermore, detailed discussions focus on the composition, structure, and performance of pristine MOF nanoarrays (MOFNAs) and MOF-based composite nanoarrays. On the one hand, the effects of the two components of MOFs and several modification methods are discussed in detail for MOFNAs. On the other hand, the review emphasizes the use of MOF-based composite nanoarrays composed of MOFs and other nanomaterials, such as oxides, hydroxides, oxyhydroxides, chalcogenides, MOFs, and metal nanoparticles, to guide the rational design of efficient OER electrodes. Finally, perspectives on current challenges, opportunities, and future directions in this research field are provided.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study sought to investigate the safety and clinical outcomes associated with the combined administration of dexmedetomidine (Dex) and remifentanil (Rem) in patients with coronary heart disease undergoing three-dimensional (3D) laparoscopic surgery, with concurrent monitoring of the electroencephalography (EEG) bispectral index. METHODS: This study is of a retrospective nature and involved a total of 60 patients with coronary heart disease who underwent 3D laparoscopic surgery at our hospital between June 2020 and September 2021. In a double-blind manner, these patients were randomly assigned to two groups: the control group (Group I), which consisted of 30 patients, and the treatment group (Group II) receiving a combination of Dex and Rem, also comprising 30 patients. The study's primary objective was to compare and assess the treatment outcomes in these two patient groups. RESULTS: Patients in Group II who developed postoperative coronary heart disease experienced a significant reduction in blood pressure, heart rate, and electrocardiogram values (P<0.05). Additionally, Group II exhibited lower bispectral index (BIS) and visual analog scale (VAS) values (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: In patients with coronary heart disease undergoing 3D laparoscopic surgery, the intraoperative use of Dex combined with Rem anesthesia offers several advantages. It helps stabilize hemodynamics, reducing the risk of myocardial ischemia, and significantly alleviates postoperative pain, all without increasing the likelihood of adverse postoperative reactions. Furthermore, this approach effectively dampens the intraoperative and postoperative stress response, facilitating enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). Overall, the clinical impact is positive, safe, and reliable.

Background: Sleep quality has been always an important problem for patients after hepatectomy. The main purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of early ambulation on sleep quality in patients after liver resection via a quantitative study. Methods: Patients undergoing liver tumor resection were randomly divided into two groups, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess the postoperative activities and sleep quality. Results: Patients who started early ambulation after liver resection had significantly better sleep quality, faster recovery of gastrointestinal function and shorter lengths of postoperative hospital stay compared with the control group. And there was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the two groups. Conclusion: Early standardized physical activities are feasible for patients after liver resection, which can significantly improve patient's sleep quality, reduce patient's pain and the nursing workload, and achieve rapid recovery.

Reactions of [Et4N][Tp*WS3(CuCl)3] (1) (Tp* = hydridotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)borate) with 2 equiv. of AgOTf (OTf- = trifluoromethanesulfonate) and 1 equiv. of several bidentate pyridine ligands including 2,5-bis(pyridine-4-yl)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole (L1), 2,7-di(pyridin-4-yl)-9H-fluorene (L2), 2,7-di(pyridin-4-yl)-9H-carbazole (L3), and 2,7-di(pyridin-4-yl)-9H-fluoren-9-one (L4) afforded four W/Cu/S cluster-based supramolecular compounds [(Tp*WS3Cu2Cl)2(L1)] (2), {[(Tp*WS3Cu3)2(µ-Cl)2(µ4-Cl)]2(L2)2}(OTf)2 (3), {[(Tp*WS3Cu3)2(µ-Cl)2(µ4-Cl)]2(L3)2}(OTf)2 (4) and {[(Tp*WS3Cu3)2(µ-Cl)2(µ4-Cl)]2(L4)2}(OTf)2 (5). Compounds 2-5 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, 1H NMR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The neutral cluster 2 behaves as a supramolecular wire constructed by L1 bridging two butterfly-shaped [Tp*WS3Cu2Cl] cores. The cluster cations of 3-5 contain two [(Tp*WS3Cu3)2(µ-Cl)2(µ4-Cl)]+ cores linked by two L2, L3, or L4 ligands, which finally formed a cationic supramolecular rectangle. The third-order nonlinear-optical (NLO) properties of 3-5 in DMF were also investigated by Z-scan techniques and their NLO responses were enhanced compared to those of their precursor 1.

Reactions of (NH4 )2 WS4 with CuCN, CuCN/1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)propane (bppa) or [Cu(MeCN)4 ]PF6 /bppa under different reaction conditions afforded a set of two- or three-dimensional W/Cu/S cluster-based coordination polymers including {[Et4 N]2 [WS4 Cu4 (µ-CN)2 (µ-I)2 ]}n (1), [WS4 Cu4 (µ-CN)2 (bppa)2 ]n (2) and {[WS4 Cu4 (bppa)4 ](PF6 )2 }n (3), respectively. Compound 2 can be readily formed from reaction of 1 with bppa under solvothermal conditions. Compounds 1 and 2 feature two-dimensional networks with a "sql" topology, while 3 possesses a two-fold interpenetrated three-dimensional net with a rare "reo" topology. Compounds 1-3 in DMF exhibited different third-order nonlinear optical responses, and they all showed a reverse saturable absorption while 2 held a strong self-focusing effect.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the risk factors for intrapartum fever and to develop a nomogram to predict the incidence of intrapartum fever. METHODS: The general demographic characteristics and perinatal factors of 696 parturients who underwent vaginal birth at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from May 2019 to April 2020 were retrospectively analysed. Data was collected from May 2019 to October 2019 on 487 pregnant women who formed a training cohort. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to identify the independent risk factors associated with intrapartum fever during vaginal birth, and a nomogram was developed to predict the occurrence. To verify the nomogram, data was collected from January 2020 to April in 2020 from 209 pregnant women who formed a validation cohort. RESULTS: The incidence of intrapartum fever in the training cohort was found in 72 of the 487 parturients (14.8%), and the incidence of intrapartum fever in the validation cohort was 31 of the 209 parturients (14.8%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the following factors were significantly related to intrapartum fever: primiparas (odds ratio [OR] 2.43; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.15-5.15), epidural labour analgesia (OR 2.89; 95% CI 1.23-6.82), premature rupture of membranes (OR 2.37; 95% CI 1.13-4.95), second stage of labour ≥ 120 min (OR 4.36; 95% CI 1.42-13.41), amniotic fluid pollution degree III (OR 10.39; 95% CI 3.30-32.73), and foetal weight ≥ 4000 g (OR 7.49; 95% CI 2.12-26.54). Based on clinical experience and previous studies, the duration of epidural labour analgesia also appeared to be a meaningful factor for intrapartum fever; therefore, these seven variables were used to develop a nomogram to predict intrapartum fever in parturients. The nomogram achieved a good area under the ROC curve of 0.86 and 0.81 in the training and in the validation cohorts, respectively. Additionally, the nomogram had a well-fitted calibration curve, which also showed excellent diagnostic performance. CONCLUSION: We constructed a model to predict the occurrence of fever during childbirth and developed an accessible nomogram to help doctors assess the risk of fever during childbirth. Such assessment may be helpful in implementing reasonable treatment measures. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinical Trial Registration: ( www.chictr.org.cn ChiCTR2000035593 ).

Introduction: One year after the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, China has made substantial progress in the prevention and control of the pandemic, while the epidemic situation remains grim in China since virus may easily survive with the falling temperature in winter. The present study aimed to compare the prevalence and associated factors of anxiety between high-risk and low-risk nurses 1 year after the COVID-19 outbreak, and examine the association between resilience and anxiety and its underlying mechanisms. Method: Connor-Davidson Resilience scale, Perceived Social Support Scale and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale were administrated to 701 nurses from Jiangsu Province, China, 1 year after the COVID-19 outbreak. The mediating effect was examined by Mackinnon's four-step procedure, while the moderated mediation model was tested by Hayes PROCESS macro. Results: The findings presented the prevalence of anxiety among nurses was 21.4% 1 year after the COVID-19 pandemic. High-risk nurses presented a higher prevalence of anxiety (24.5 vs. 19.3%) than low-risk nurses. Age and professional title were significantly associated with anxiety only in high-risk nurses (all P < 0.05). Perceived social support mediated the association between resilience and anxiety and the indirect effect was stronger for high-risk nurses than low-risk nurses. Conclusion: Anxiety remains prevalent among nurses 1 year after the COVID-19 outbreak, and resilience plays a protective role against anxiety. Programs that enhance resilience and social support should be designed and special attention should be paid to nurses from high-risk units.

BACKGROUND: Tracheostomy is very common in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), long-term nursing care are needed for those patients. We aimed to evaluate the effects of hospital-community-home (HCH) nursing in those patients. METHODS: This study was a before-after study design. Patients were divided into control groups (traditional nursing care) and HCH group(HCH nursing care). Tracheostomy patients with severe TBI needing long-term care were included. All patients underwent a two-month long follow-up. Glasgow coma score (GCS), Karnofsky, Self-Anxiety Scale (SAS) from caregiver and Barthel assessment at the discharge and two months after discharge were evaluated. The tracheostomy-related complications were recorded and compared. RESULTS: A total of 60 patients were included. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the GCS, Karnofsky, SAS from caregiver and Barthel index at discharge((all P > .05); the GCS, Karnofsky and Barthel index were all significantly increased after two-month follow-up for the two groups (all P < .05), and the GCS, Karnofsky and Barthel index at two-month follow-up in HCH group were significantly higher than that of the control group(all P < .05), but the SAS from caregiver at two-month follow-up in HCH group was significantly less than that of the control group(P = .009). The incidence of block of artificial tracheal cannula and readmission in HCH group were significant less than that of control group (all P < .05). CONCLUSION: HCH nursing care is feasible in tracheostomy patients with severe TBI, future studies are needed to further evaluate the role of HCH nursing care.

PURPOSES: During the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) all over the world, the mental health conditions of health care workers are of great importance to ensure the efficiency of rescue operations. The current study examined the effect of social support on mental health of health care workers and its underlying mechanisms regarding the mediating role of resilience and moderating role of age during the epidemic. METHODS: Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Connor-Davidson Resilience scale (CD-RISC) and Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) were administrated among 1472 health care workers from Jiangsu Province, China during the peak period of COVID-19 outbreak. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to examine the mediation effect of resilience on the relation between social support and mental health, whereas moderated mediation analysis was performed by Hayes PROCESS macro. RESULTS: The findings showed that resilience could partially mediate the effect of social support on mental health among health care workers. Age group moderated the indirect relationship between social support and mental health via resilience. Specifically, compared with younger health care workers, the association between resilience and mental health would be attenuated in the middle-aged workers. CONCLUSIONS: The results add knowledge to previous literature by uncovering the underlying mechanisms between social support and mental health. The present study has profound implications for mental health services for health care workers during the peak period of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Design and synthesis of non-noble metal electrocatalysts with high activity and durability for the electrolysis of water is of great significance for energy conversion and storage. In this work, we prepared a series of Fe-doped MoS2 nanomaterials by simple one-pot solvothermal reactions of (NH4)2MoS4 with FeCl3·6H2O. An optimized working electrode of Fe-MoS2-5 displayed high hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity with a relatively small overpotential of 173 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2 in 0.5 M H2SO4, along with no significant change in catalytic performance even after 1000 cyclic voltammetry (CV) cycles. Fe-MoS2 nanoparticles on nickel foam (NF; denoted as Fe-MoS2/NF) exhibited an overpotential of 230 mV at 20 mA cm-2 for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and 153 mV at 10 mA cm-2 for the HER in 1.0 M KOH electrolyte. Fe-MoS2/NF was stable for more than 140 h under these conditions. Furthermore, the two electrode system of Fe-MoS2/NF (anode)//Fe-MoS2/NF (cathode) electrodes demonstrated excellent electrocatalytic activity toward overall water splitting with a low potential of 1.52 V at 10 mA cm-2 in 1.0 M KOH electrolyte.

ABSTRACT

The development of bifunctional non-noble metal electrocatalysts demonstrating high activity and stability for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great significance for renewable and clean energy. In this work, we report hierarchically structured integrated Fe-MoS2/Ni3S2/NF (NF = nickel foam) materials prepared by a facile in situ solvothermal method, and among them, the Fe-doped MoS2 was assembled into spine-like nanorods. The optimized electrocatalyst (denoted as Fe-MoS2/Ni3S2/NF-2) demonstrated excellent activity and durability for performing the HER and OER in an alkaline electrolyte (pH = 14) with low overpotentials of 130.6 mV and 256 mV (vs. RHE) at a current density of 10 mA cm-2, as well as no significant loss in catalytic performance even after 2000 cyclic voltammetry (CV) cycles. An outstanding durability of 180 h could be achieved for OER. The overall water splitting made up of the two-electrode system with Fe-MoS2/Ni3S2/NF-2 as both the anode and the cathode required a voltage of only 1.61 V to drive a current density of 10 mA cm-2 along with an outstanding long-term stability of 20 h, displaying its great potential for application in water splitting. The effective construction of multi-component synergistic structures shows a good pathway for high-performance electrocatalysis and energy storage.

OBJECTIVE: This randomized controlled study investigated the feasibility of early ambulation after liver resection and the effect of the amount of activity on postoperative recovery. METHODS: A total of 120 patients who underwent liver resection were randomly divided into two groups for the comparative analysis of the following factors: amount of activity, pain control, sleeping state, perioperative gastrointestinal function recovery, incidence of complications and postoperative hospital stay. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, patients undergoing liver resection performing early postoperative ambulation had faster gastrointestinal function recovery (First exhaust time 2.2 ±â€¯1.4 vs. 3.3 ±â€¯2.3 p < 0.01; First flatus time 2.3 ±â€¯1.7 vs. 3.1 ±â€¯2.5 p = 0.04) and shorter postoperative hospital stays (6.6 ±â€¯2.3 vs. 7.7 ±â€¯2.1 p = 0.01), with statistically significant differences. There was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the two groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Early ambulation after liver resection is safe and feasible. It can reduce the patient's pain and economic burden, increase the patient's comfort, reduce the nursing workload, achieve rapid recovery, and improve patient satisfaction.

ABSTRACT

Kinetic step-growth polymerization is studied by dissipative particle dynamics coupled with our previously developed reaction algorithm on a coarse-grained level. The simulation result proves that this step-growth polymerization obeys the second-order reaction kinetics. We apply this algorithm to study the step-growth polymerization using the subunits with different flexibilities or within confinement. Good agreement of the number fraction distributions with the Flory distribution is obtained, implying that this algorithm is reasonable to describe such a kind of step-growth polymerization. This algorithm can further supply a convenient platform for simulating typical step-growth polymerization in reactive polymer systems.

ABSTRACT

Ambient temperature solid-state reaction of Pb(OAc)2 with TabHPF6 afforded an intermediate product [Pb(Tab)2]2(PF6)4, which further reacted with 4,4'-bipy in the solid state to generate a unique 2D cationic coordination polymer [Pb(Tab)2(4,4'-bipy)](PF6)2 in quantitative yield. Both complexes possess a low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss in the high electric field frequency range.

Reactions of [Et4N][TpMoS(S4)] with three equiv. of CuI in MeCN or in pyridine gave rise to one dicubane and one tetracubane anionic clusters, [Et4N]2[{TpMo(µ3-S)3Cu3I}2(µ-I){Cu(µ-I)2(µ4-I)2}] and [PyH][{TpMo(µ3-S)4Cu3}4(µ12-I)], and their third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) responses were greatly enhanced relative to that of the precursor.

ABSTRACT

Hepatic fibrosis represents a frequent event following chronic insult to trigger wound healing reactions with accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) in the liver. Activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) is the pivotal event during liver fibrogenesis. Compelling evidence indicates that oxidative stress is concomitant with liver fibrosis irrespective of the underlying etiology. Natural antioxidant ligustrazine exhibits potent antifibrotic activities, but the mechanisms are poorly understood. Our studies were to investigate the ligustrazine effects on HSC activation stimulated by hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)), an in vitro model mimicking the oxidative stress in liver fibrogenesis, and to elucidate the possible mechanisms. Our results demonstrated that H(2)O(2) at 5µM significantly stimulated HSC proliferation and expression of marker genes of HSC activation; whereas ligustrazine dose-dependently suppressed proliferation and induced apoptosis in H(2)O(2)-activated HSCs, and attenuated expression of fibrotic marker genes. Mechanistic investigations revealed that ligustrazine reduced platelet-derived growth factor-ß receptor (PDGF-ßR) expression and blocked the phosphorylation of extracellular regulated protein kinase (ERK) and p38 kinase, two downstream effectors of PDGF-ßR. Further molecular evidence suggested that ligustrazine interruption of ERK and p38 pathways was dependent on the blockade of PDGF-ßR and might be involved in ligustrazine reduction of fibrotic marker gene expression under H(2)O(2) stimulation. Furthermore, ligustrazine modulated some proteins critical for HSC activation and ECM homeostasis in H(2)O(2)-stimulated HSCs. These data collectively indicated that ligustrazine could attenuate HSC activation caused by oxidative stress, providing novel insights into ligustrazine as a therapeutic option for hepatic fibrosis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of acupuncture stimulation of "Taichong" (LR 3), "Qimen" (LR 14), etc. on hepatic platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signal pathway activity at the protein and mRNA levels in hepatic fibrosis rats. METHODS: Forty-six SD rats were randomly divided into control (10 rats), model (12 rats), acupuncture (12 rats) and non-acupoint (12 rats) groups. Hepatic fibrosis model was established by intraperitoneal injection of mixture solution of 50% CCl4 and olive oil [1:1, 3 times on the 1st week (W), twice/W thereafter for 5 more weeks]. During modeling, acupuncture stimulation of "Taichong" (LR 3), "Qimen" (LR 14), "Ganshu" (BL 18) and "Zusanli" (ST 36) was conducted simultaneously. At the end of the experiments, all the rats were sacrificed for collecting their liver and blood samples, followed by separation of the hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). ELISA, Western blot and Real-time quantitative PCR techniques were used to detect the content of serum PDGF and expression levels of PDGF-beta receptor (PDGF-beta R), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK1/2), c-jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and P 38 genes and proteins of HSCs, respectively. RESULTS: Compared to the control group, serum PDGF content, and expression levels of PDGF-beta R mRNA and protein, ERK mRNA and protein and P 38 protein of HSCs in the model group were upregulated significantly (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). In comparison with the model group, serum PDGF content, and the expression levels of PDGF-beta R mRNA and protein, ERK mRNA and protein of HSCs in the acupuncture group were down-regulated apparently (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). No significant differences were found between the acupuncture and non-acupoint groups in serum PDGF content and between the model group and non-acupoint group in the expression levels of PDGF-beta R mRNA and protein, ERK mRNA and protein, JNK protein and P 38 protein of HSCs, as well as between the model group and acupuncture group in the expression levels of JNK protein and P 38 protein of HSCs (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture intervention can effectively down-regulate serum PDGF content, and expression levels of PDGF-beta R mRNA and protein, ERK mRNA and protein of HSCs in liver fibrosis rats, which may contribute to its effect in improving liver fibrosis through down-regulating PDGF signal pathway activity.

ABSTRACT

A series of diphyllin glycosides were synthesized from diphyllin by phase transfer catalysis glycosylation, deprotection, and etherification, and the structures were established by (1) H NMR, (13) C NMR, and HRMS. These glycosides were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicity against HCT-116, A549, and A549T cancer cell lines by MTT assay, and most of them were cytotoxic at submicromolar concentrations. They were also effective against the paclitaxel-resistant cell line A549T. The kDNA decatenation assay indicated that most of these compounds inhibited topoisomerase IIα-mediated kDNA decatenation. In addition, the in vitro tubulin polymerization study showed that compounds 5 and 6 had antimicrotubule activity with a paclitaxel-like mode of action. Taken together, these results suggest that these diphyllin glycosides act on both TopoII and tubulin.
