ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown a protective effect of dexmedetomidine use in kidney transplantation. In contrast, it is not known whether intraoperative administration of dexmedetomidine can reduce early allograft dysfunction incidence following liver transplantation. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of dexmedetomidine use during surgery on early allograft dysfunction following orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). STUDY DESIGN: This is a single-center, double-blinded, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial. 330 adult patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation were enrolled from Jan 14th, 2019 to May 22nd, 2022. Patients received dexmedetomidine or normal saline during surgery. 1 year follow-ups were recorded. METHODS: Patients were randomized to two groups receiving either dexmedetomidine or normal saline intraoperatively. For patients in the dexmedetomidine group, a loading dose (1 µg/kg over 10 min) of dexmedetomidine was given after induction of anesthesia followed by a continuous infusion (0.5 µg/kg /h) until the end of surgery. For patients in the normal saline group, an equal volume loading dose of 0.9% saline was given after the induction of anesthesia followed by an equal volume continuous infusion until the end of surgery. The primary outcome was early allograft dysfunction. Secondary outcomes included primary graft non-function, acute kidney injury and acute lung injury/ acute respiratory distress syndrome. RESULTS: Of 330 patients included in the intention-to-treat analysis, 165 were in the dexmedetomidine group (mean [SD] age, 49 [10] years; 117 [70.9%] men), and 165 were in the normal saline group (mean SD age, 49 [9] years; 118 [74%] men). 39 (24.4%) patients in the dexmedetomidine group and 31 (19.4%) in normal saline group developed early allograft dysfunction and the difference was statistically insignificant (P=0.28). Secondary outcomes including primary graft non-function and acute kidney injury was similar between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Intraoperative administration of dexmedetomidine did not reduce early allograft dysfunction rate after orthotopic liver transplantation.

ABSTRACT

Enrofloxacin (ENR) residues in yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco) often exceed the standard due to excessive use. This study explored the pharmacokinetics of ENR and its metabolite ciprofloxacin (CIP) in yellow catfish following a single dose of 10 mg/kg body weight via intramuscular injection (IM), oral gavage (PO), or a 5-h drug bath at 10 mg/L and 25°C. High-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to determine the ENR and CIP concentrations in various tissues. The highest ENR concentration occurred with IM administration, peaking at 4.124 mg/L in the plasma, 8.359 mg/kg in the kidney, 6.272 mg/kg in the liver, and 5.192 mg/kg in the muscle. However, PO administration resulted in the longest metabolic time, with elimination half-lives of 56.47 h in plasma, 86.43 h in the kidney, 76.25 h in the liver, and 64.75 h in muscle. Additionally, the area under the concentration-time curve values for IM, PO, and bath administration in yellow catfish plasma were 108.36, 88.96, and 22.08 mg·h/L, respectively. These results indicate the effectiveness of all three administration methods in treating bacterial diseases in yellow catfish. The selection of an appropriate administration method depends on the minimal inhibitory concentration of ENR against pathogenic bacteria. Yellow catfish subjected to PO and IM administration require longer resting periods before they can be marketed than those receiving drug bath administration.

ABSTRACT

Subterranean karst caves are windows into the terrestrial subsurface to deconstruct the dimensions of mycobiome fingerprints. However, impeded by the constraints of remote locations, the inaccessibility of specimens and technical limitations, the mycobiome of subterranean karst caves has remained largely unknown. Weathered rock and sediment samples were collected from Luohandu cave (Guilin, Southern China) and subjected to Illumina Hiseq sequencing of ITS1 genes. A total of 267 known genera and 90 known orders in 15 phyla were revealed in the mycobiomes. Ascomycota dominated all samples, followed by Basidiomycota and Mortierellomycota. The sediments possessed the relatively highest alpha diversity and were significantly different from weathered rocks according to the diversity indices and richness metrics. Fifteen families and eight genera with significant differences were detected in the sediment samples. The Ca/Mg ratio appeared to significantly affect the structure of the mycobiome communities. Ascomycota appeared to exert a controlling influence on the mycobiome co-occurrence network of the sediments, while Ascomycota and Basidiomycota were found to be the main phyla in the mycobiome co-occurrence network of weathered rocks. Our results provide a more comprehensive dimension to the mycobiome fingerprints of Luohandu cave and a new window into the mycobiome communities and the ecology of subterranean karst cave ecosystems.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Our study aimed to explore potential prognostic factors in Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) patients from easily accessible laboratory data and to investigate whether the combination of these indicators with a score for toxic epidermal necrolysis (SCORTEN) can improve the predictive value. METHODS: Data from 85 SJS/TEN patients hospitalized from 2010 to 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. Univariate analysis was used to screen for laboratory indexes associated with death. Logistic regression was used to analyze significant risk factors for death. The differentiation and calibration of SCORTEN and modified score were assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test. Net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were used to evaluate the incremental prognostic value. RESULTS: Among the 85 patients (37 males, 48 females) aged 14-88 years, the mortality rate was 11.8% (n = 10). SCORTEN had good discrimination and calibration to predict mortality in this cohort of patients (area under the ROC curve [AUC] of 0.874, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.758-0.990; Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test P = 0.994). Red cell distribution width-standard deviation index (RDW-SD) > 47.9 fL and procalcitonin (PCT) > 0.67 ng/mL were significant risk factors for death. When adding the 2 factors to SCORTEN, AUC was 0.915 (95% CI, 0.833-0.997), but not statistically different compared to SCORTEN alone (P = 0.091). The NRI was 1.2 (95% CI, 0.672-1.728; P < 0.001) and the IDI was 0.09 (95% CI, 0.011-0.173; P = 0.026), still suggesting that the modified score had better discriminatory and predictive power than SCORTEN alone. The modified score also showed good calibration (Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test, P = 0.915). CONCLUSIONS: SCORTEN is a good predictor of mortality in SJS/TEN patients in southwest China. Combining RDW-SD > 47.9 fL and PCT > 0.67 ng/mL with SCORTEN may enhance the ability to predict prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are persistent and harmful pollutants with high priority concern in agricultural fields. This work constructed a rice-crab coculture and bioaugmentation (RCM) system to remediate phenanthrene (a model PAH) contamination in rice fields. The results showed that RCM had a higher remediation performance of phenanthrene in rice paddy compared with rice cultivation alone, microbial addition alone, and crab-rice coculture, reaching a remediation efficiency of 88.92 % in 42 d. The concentration of phenanthrene in the rice plants decreased to 6.58 mg/kg, and its bioconcentration effect was efficiently inhibited in the RCM system. In addition, some low molecular weight organic acids of rice root increased by 12.87 %∼73.87 %, and some amino acids increased by 140 %∼1150 % in RCM. Bioturbation of crabs improves soil aeration structure and microbial migration, and adding Pseudomonas promoted the proliferation of some plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs), which facilitated the degradation of phenanthrene. This coupling rice-crab coculture with bioaugmentation had favorable effects on soil enzyme activity, microbial community structure, and PAH degradation genes in paddy fields, enhancing the removal of and resistance to PAH contamination in paddy fields and providing new strategies for achieving a balance between production and remediation in contaminated paddy fields.

ABSTRACT

Water quality is one of the most important environmental issues in the sustainable development of karst areas. To investigate heavy metal pollution and assess health risk in karst water basins around mines, 18 groups of water samples were collected from the river and groundwater in the Sidi River karst basin, and the concentrations of nine types of heavy metals(Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Mn, Fe, As, Cr, and Sr) were determined. Sample data were analyzed using principal component analysis, correlation analysis, water quality index, the Nemerow comprehensive pollution index, hazard quotient, and hazard index. The results showed that the Sidi River was slightly alkaline. The farther the river water samples were from the tailings reservoir, the lower were the concentrations of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Mn, Fe, As, and Sr in the river water. Principal component and correlation analyses showed that heavy metals in the Sidi River karst basin mainly came from mine discharge(55.42%), carbonate weathering dissolution(21.41%), and human activities(14.72%). Eighty-two percent of the samples in the river and all the samples in the groundwater were excellent water. The Nemerow comprehensive pollution index in the river was 4.12 with strong pollution. All the hazard indices were below 1, and Pb, Zn, As, Cd, and Cr were potentially threatening metals in the Sidi River karst basin. The concentration of heavy metals changed significantly after entering the karst conduit, indicating that the unique properties of the karst aquifer affected the spatial variation of the heavy metal concentration. The results of this study can provide data reference for water resource prevention and human health protection in the Sidi River karst basin and similar karst basins.

ABSTRACT

Background: Pediatric liver transplantation is an important modality for treating biliary atresia. The overall survival rate of pediatric liver transplantation has significantly improved. The incidence of perioperative cardiac events was evaluated, and risk factors were also investigated in adult patients undergoing liver transplantation in previous studies. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of a cardiac event during a pediatric living-donor liver transplantation. Case summary: Our report describes the management of cardiac events during a liver transplantation in a 7-month-old girl. The ST segment began to increase to 3.0 mm immediately after reperfusion, with peak ST-segment elevation reaching 13.2 mm after 45 min. The procedure ended uneventfully after continuous symptomatic and etiological treatment. It was considered to be the occurrence of an acute air embolism complication during the procedure based on the electrocardiograph and biomarkers. An echocardiogram during follow-up showed a patent foramen ovale with a left-to-right shunt tract width of 2.7 mm. Discussion: Pediatric liver transplantation has become a state-of-the-art treatment for children with end-stage liver disease and can improve the quality of life to some extent. These children may be complicated with congenital heart disease, which increases the risk of surgery. Application of echocardiogram, close monitoring, and appropriate management may reduce the incidence of perioperative cardiac events.

BACKGROUND: Posterior interosseous nerve (PIN) entrapment syndrome is one of the causes of weakness and pain of the arm muscles, which is prone to missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis in clinic practice. This paper reports a case of PIN entrapment syndrome, with PIN injury indicated by electrophysiology. Musculoskeletal ultrasound was applied to identify that the entrapment point was located at the inlet of the Frohse arch and the outlet of the supinator muscle. Treatment with ultrasound-guided nerve hydrodissection was performed on the entrapment point, which significantly improved the symptoms. Ultrasound-guided nerve hydrodissection is an effective therapeutic method for PIN entrapment syndrome. CASE SUMMARY: A male patient, 35 years old, worked as an automobile mechanic. He felt slightly weak extension activity of his right fingers 2 years ago but sought no treatment. Later, the symptoms gradually became aggravated and led to finger drop, particularly severe in the right middle finger, accompanied by supination weakness of the right forearm. Neural electrophysiological examination showed that the patient had partial PIN injury of the right radius. Musculoskeletal ultrasound examination indicated PIN entrapment at the inlet of the Frohse arch and the outlet of the supinator muscle. Therefore, PIN entrapment syndrome was diagnosed. After treatment with ultrasound-guided nerve hydrodissection around the entrapment point, the dorsiflexion weakness of the right hand was significantly improved compared with before treatment. CONCLUSION: Ultrasound-guided hydrodissection is efficacious for PIN entrapment syndrome, with high clinical value and great application prospects.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To explore the effects of somatostatin on the levels of gastrointestinal hormones and clinical outcomes in critically ill infants after gastrointestinal surgery. METHODS: Using a random number table method, critically ill infants after gastrointestinal surgery who were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Xuzhou Children's Hospital from June 2019 to June 2021 were randomly divided into an observation group (29 cases) and a control group (30 cases). The control group received routine treatment such as anti-infection and hemostasis after surgery, while the observation group received somatostatin in addition to the routine treatment [3.5 µg/(kg·h) infusion for 7 days]. The levels of serum gastrin (GAS), motilin (MTL), insulin, and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) before surgery, on the 3rd day after surgery, and on the 7th day after surgery were compared between the two groups. The recovery progress and incidence of complications after surgery were also compared between the two groups. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in the levels of serum GAS, MTL, insulin, and GLP-1 between the two groups before surgery (P>0.05). On the 3rd and 7th day after surgery, the levels of serum GAS, MTL, insulin, and GLP-1 in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). In the observation group, the levels of GAS, MTL, insulin, and GLP-1 on the 7th day after surgery were higher than those before surgery and on the 3rd day after surgery (P<0.05), and the levels on the 3rd day after surgery were higher than those before surgery (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the levels of serum GAS, MTL, and insulin before surgery, on the 3rd day after surgery, and on the 7th day after surgery in the control group (P>0.05). The level of GLP-1 on the 7th day after surgery was higher than that before surgery and on the 3rd day after surgery (P<0.05), and the level on the 3rd day after surgery was higher than that before surgery (P<0.05) in the control group. The observation group had shorter first time of anal exhaust, recovery time of bowel sounds, and first time of defecation after surgery compared to the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of complications after surgery in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (10% vs 33%, P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Somatostatin can increase the levels of serum GAS, MTL, insulin, and GLP-1 in critically ill infants after gastrointestinal surgery, promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function, and reduce the incidence of postoperative complications.

ABSTRACT

Background: Less than 1% of children develop femoral neck fractures (FNF), making them uncommon. However, they may have dangerous side effects, like avascular necrosis. Even though several risk factors for postoperative avascular necrosis have been identified, there is still debate regarding them. In this investigation, a meta-analysis was performed to examine the potential causes of postoperative avascular necrosis in children with FNF. Methods: We conducted a thorough literature search to find risk factors for avascular necrosis (AVN) after internal fixation of pediatric FNF. Until December 2022, we searched several databases, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, Orthosearch, and Sinomed. Software Zotero 6.0 and Stata 17.0 were used to organise and synthesise the data. Finally, a sensitivity and publication bias test was carried out. Results: Our study includes a total of 15 case-control studies involving 814 patients. The risk of postoperative AVN increased with age at fracture encounter (95% CI: 0.64-1.88, P = 0.0003), initial fracture displacement (95% CI: 1.87-9.54, P = 0.0005), and poor fracture reduction (95% CI:1.95-22.34, P = 0.0024) were risk factors for postoperative AVN. There was no significant relationship between gender and postoperative AVN (95% CI: 0.52-1.31, P = 0.41). Conversely, Postoperative AVN and reduction methods have no connection with each other (95% CI: 0.77-2.66, P = 0.25), procedure time (95% CI: 0.43-2.99, P = 0.16), or injury mechanism (95% CI: 0.32-2.26, P = 0.75). The incidence of post-operative AVN varies between Delbet fracture types (95% CI: 0.15-0.31, P < 0.0001), with the overall trend being that the incidence of post-operative AVN is highest for type II, lowest for type IV, and close for types I and III, but it is not clear which type of fracture is the independent risk factor. Funnel plots indicate no significant publication bias. Conclusions: In line with this study, About 26% of children who underwent surgery for a femoral neck fracture suffered postoperative AVN. The main risk factors for AVN were the child's age, the initial displacement of the fractures, and poorly reduced fractures. The risk of AVN did not significantly correlate with gender, the time of the procedure, reduction methods or the mechanism of injury. The overall trend in the incidence of postoperative AVN for the different Delbet types of fracture is that the incidence of postoperative AVN is highest for type II, lowest for type IV, and close for types I and III, but it is not clear which type of fracture is the independent risk factor.

ABSTRACT

Compliant amplifying mechanisms are used widely in high-precision instruments driven by piezoelectric actuators, and the dynamic and static characteristics of these mechanisms are closely related to instrument performance. Although the majority of existing research has focused on analysis of their static characteristics, the dynamic characteristics of the mechanisms affect their response speeds directly. Therefore, this paper proposes a comprehensive theoretical model of compliant-amplifying mechanisms based on the multi-body system transfer matrix method to analyze the dynamic and static characteristics of these mechanisms. The effects of the main amplifying mechanism parameters on the displacement amplification ratio and the resonance frequency are analyzed comprehensively using the control variable method. An iterative optimization algorithm is also used to obtain specific parameters that meet the design requirements. Finally, simulation analyses and experimental verification tests are performed. The results indicate the feasibility of using the proposed theoretical compliant-amplifying mechanism model to describe the mechanism's dynamic and static characteristics, which represents a significant contribution to the design and optimization of compliant-amplifying mechanisms.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a highly invasive malignant tumor with poor prognosis, and there is growing evidence that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) could significantly promotes the risk of LUAD. In order to improve the treatment outcomes of patients with LUAD and OSA, we aim to screen OSA-related genes that may potentially affect LUAD and to discover a high sensitivity prognostic signature that can stratify LUAD/OSA patients and to further accurately identify LUAD patients who might respond to immunotherapy. Molecular subtypes classified by the prognostic signature did not belong to any previously reported subtypes of LUAD. The tumor microenvironment (TME), mutation, and so on, were significantly distinct between patients within different risk groups or clusters. Combined with gene set variation analysis (GSVA) and drug susceptibility analysis, patients in the low-risk group (The vast majority of patients belonging to cluster2 by molecular subtyping) were not suitable for immunotherapy due to T-cell exhaustion caused by long-term inflammatory response; the question of how to reverse T-cell exhaustion may be a primary consideration. Cluster3 patients had the highest benefit from immunotherapy, and although cluster1 patients had the worst prognosis, they were more sensitive to traditional chemotherapeutic drugs. Animal experiments showed that chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) could not only significantly promote the tumor growth of LUAD, but also increase the expression levels of risk genes. This risk model may contribute greatly to the evaluation of prognosis, molecular characteristics, and treatment modalities of LUAD/OSA, and could be further translated into clinical applications to ameliorate the treatment dilemmas.

ABSTRACT

Choroidal osteoma is a benign ossifying tumor within the choroid. Complications associated with choroidal osteoma, including disruption of retinal pigment epithelium, atrophy of photoreceptors, subretinal fluid, and choroidal neovascularization, present challenges for clinicians, and management remain controversial. We performed a comprehensive search in the PubMed, EMBASE, and Ovid databases for published studies and case reports relating to the management of choroidal osteoma. Since it was first described in 1978, various case reports of ocular complications associated with choroidal osteoma have been documented, and various therapies have yielded different outcomes. We systematically evaluate the literature published on this rare entity.

ABSTRACT

Acid-base bifunctional catalysts have attracted increasing attention due to the improved overall efficiency of synthetic reactions. Herein, we reported the successful fabrication of a PW12@NiCo-LDH acid-base bifunctional catalyst by using the in-situ encapsulation-reassembly strategy. The evolution process of morphology and structure was monitored carefully by various time-dependent characterizations. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrated that the terminal oxygen of PW12 in PW12@NiCo-LDH preferred to assemble with the oxygen vacancies on NiCo-LDH. When applied for deacetalization-Knoevenagel condensation, the PW12@NiCo-LDH displayed >99% conversion of benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal (BDMA) and >99% yield of ethyl α-cyanocinnamate (ECC). Moreover, PW12@NiCo-LDH can be recycled at least 10 cycles without obvious structural change, which can be attributed to the confinement of PW12 into the NiCo-LDH nanocage. Such excellent catalytic activity of PW12@NiCo-LDH was benefited from the short mass transfer pathway between acid sites and base sites, which was caused by the stable assembly between PW12 and NiCo-LDH.

ABSTRACT

The active substances derived from plants have received increasing attention owing to their wide range of pharmacological applications, including anti-tumor, anti-allergic, anti-viral, and anti-oxidative activities. The allergy epidemic is a growing global public health problem that threatens human health and safety. Polyphenols from plants have significant anti-allergic effects and are an important source of anti-allergic drug research and development. Here, we describe recent advances in the anti-allergic efficacy of plant polyphenols, including their comprehensive effects on cellular or animal models. The current issues and directions for future development in this field are discussed to provide a theoretical basis for the development and utilization of these active substances as anti-allergic products.

ABSTRACT

Background: Although dexmedetomidine (DEX) is widely used during the perioperative period in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), its clinical effects on liver function and postoperative inflammation are unclear. This study aimed to explore effects of DEX on postoperative liver function and inflammation in patients with HCC after hepatectomy. Methods: A retrospective cohort study with propensity score matching was performed. A total of 494 patients who underwent hepatectomy from June 2019 to July 2020 and fulfilled the eligibility criteria were included in this study. Baseline data, liver function indexes and inflammation-related biomarkers were collected and compared between the two groups. Survival analysis was conducted to investigate the effects of DEX on the overall survival (OS) of patients. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to minimize bias between the two groups. Results: The study cohort comprised 189 patients in the DEX-free group and 305 patients in the DEX group. Patients in the DEX group had lower levels of alanine transaminase (ALT, P = 0.018) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH, P = 0.046) and higher level of serum albumin (ALB, P < 0.001) than patients in the DEX-free group before discharge. A total of 107 pairs of patients were successfully matched by PSM. Results consistently suggested that ALT and LDH levels were significantly lower (P = 0.044 and P = 0.046, respectively) and ALB levels were significantly higher (P = 0.002) in the DEX group than in the DEX-free group in the early postoperative period. No significant differences of inflammation-related biomarkers were observed between two groups after PSM. Neither the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis nor the multiple Cox regression survival analysis identified DEX as a contributing factor that would affect the OS of patients after PSM. Conclusion: DEX exerts protective effects on liver function while has little effects on inflammation-related biomarkers in the early postoperative period in patients undergoing hepatectomy due to HCC.

BACKGROUND: Oxidation has been reported as the one of the deterioration reactions of proteins in aquatic products. Searching for new bioactive substances from marine algae has been one of the main areas in food science and additives. RESULTS: In this study, a novel protein from the red alga Porphyra haitanensis was determined after ammonium sulfate precipitation and gel filtration chromatography. It closely corresponded to the antioxidant activity and was identified as an uncharacterized protein with a molecular mass of 43 kDa, designated Ph43. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that Ph43 is a novel protein of non-phycobiliprotein family with putative chordin domains and rich in α-helical conformation. Recombinant protein (rPh43) was expressed in Escherichia coli as a Hig-tagged protein using a pET-22b vector system and purified by affinity high-performance liquid chromatography. Spectroscopy analysis revealed that there were no structural differences between rPh43 and natural recovered Ph43. Moreover, rPh43 showed equal/higher antioxidant activity compared with Ph43. rPh43 has the potential for application as a natural antioxidant for food stabilization. CONCLUSION: Our results identified a novel antioxidant protein with molecular mass of 43 kDa derived from Porphyra haitanensis that belongs to the non-phycobiliprotein family. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

ABSTRACT

Phenanthrene (Phe), a typical polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) pollutant, poses an enormous safety risk to rice-crab coculture (RC) paddy ecosystems. In this study, humic acid-modified purified attapulgite (HA-ATP) with a composite structure was successfully fabricated to adsorb PAHs released from paddy soil to overlying water in RC paddy ecosystems in Northeast China. The maximum crab bioturbation intensities for dissolved Phe and particulate Phe were 64.83nullng/L·(cm2·d) and 214.29nullng/L·(cm2·d), respectively. The highest concentration of dissolved Phe released from paddy soil to overlying water due to crab bioturbation reached 80.89nullng/L, while the corresponding concentration of particulate Phe reached 267.36nullng/L. The dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total suspended solid (TSS) concentrations in overlying water increased correspondingly and were strongly correlated with dissolved Phe and particulate Phe concentrations, respectively (P < 0.05). When 6% HA-ATP was added to the surface layer of paddy soil, the efficiency of the adsorption of Phe release was 24.00%-36.38% for particulate Phe and 89.99%-91.91% for dissolved Phe. Because HA-ATP has a large adsorption pore size (11.33 nm) and surface area (82.41nullm2/g) as well as many HA functional groups, it provided multiple hydrophobic adsorption sites for dissolved Phe, which was conducive to competitive adsorption with DOC in the overlying water. In contrast to that adsorbed by DOC, the average proportion of dissolved Phe adsorbed by HA-ATP reached 90.55%, which reduced the dissolved Phe concentration in the overlying water. Furthermore, even though the particulate Phe was resuspended by crab bioturbation, HA-ATP immobilized particulate Phe due to its capacity to inhibit desorption, which achieved the goal of reducing the Phe concentration in the overlying water. This result was confirmed by research on the adsorption-desorption characteristics of HA-ATP. This research provides an environmentally friendly in situ remediation method for reducing agricultural environmental risks and improving rice crop quality.

ABSTRACT

Background: Skeletal maturity can evaluate the growth and development potential of children and provide a guide for the management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Recent studies have demonstrated the advantages of the Humeral Head Ossification System (HHOS) and the Proximal Femur Maturity Index (PFMI), based on standard scoliosis films, in the management of AIS patients. We further assessed the HHOS and the PFMI method's reliability in the interrater and intrarater. Methods: The data from 38 patients, including the humeral head and proximal femur on standard scoliosis films, were distributed to the eight raters in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. On 38 independent standard spine radiographs, raters utilized the HHOS and PFMI to assign grades. The PPT sequence was randomly changed and then reevaluated 2 weeks later. For every system, the 95% confidence interval (95% CI) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated to evaluate the interrater and intrarater reliability. Results: The HHOS was extremely reliable, with an intraobserver ICC of 0.802. In the first round, the interobserver ICC reliability for the HHOS was 0.955 (0.929-0.974), while in the second round, it was 0.939 (0.905-0.964). The PFMI was extremely reliable, with an intraobserver ICC of 0.888. In the first round, the interobserver ICC reliability for the PFMI was 0.967 (0.948-0.981), while in the second round, it was 0.973 (0.957-0.984). Conclusions: The HHOS and PFMI classifications had excellent reliability. These two methods are beneficial to reduce additional exposure to radiation and expense for AIS. There are advantages and disadvantages to each classification. Clinicians should choose a personalized and reasonable method to assess skeletal maturity, which will assist in the management of adolescent scoliosis patients.

ABSTRACT

In the development and production process of domestic and foreign oil fields, large amounts of oil-bearing wastewater with complex compositions containing toxic and harmful pollutants are generated. These oil-bearing wastewaters will cause serious environmental pollution if they are not effectively treated before discharge. Among these wastewaters, the oily sewage produced in the process of oilfield exploitation has the largest content of oil-water emulsion. In order to solve the problem of oil-water separation of oily sewage, the paper summarizes the research of many scholars in many aspects, such as the use of physical and chemical methods such as air flotation and flocculation, or the use of mechanical methods such as centrifuges and oil booms for sewage treatment. Comprehensive analysis shows that among these oil-water separation methods, membrane separation technology has higher separation efficiency in the separation of general oil-water emulsions than other methods and also exhibits a better separation effect for stable emulsions, which has a broader application prospect for future developments. To present the characteristics of different types of membranes more intuitively, this paper describes the applicable conditions and characteristics of various types of membranes in detail, summarizes the shortcomings of existing membrane separation technologies, and offers prospects for future research directions.
