ABSTRACT

The changes in Mental Health care in Brasil, in the last decades, have beenreducing the number of beds in psychiatric hospitals and increasing the services of Psychosocial Care. Within this context, it is necessary to reflect on the advances and especially on the challenges of these services. This dissertation presents a critical analysis of the current practices in PsychosocialCare Centers (CAPS) in Brasil, based on the authors who think that these new services contribute to the users becoming chronic. The iatrogenic and chronic aspects, traditionally associated to the psychiatric hospitals, may be also developed in these new services, although with peculiar characteristics. The objective of this work was to analyze the risks of a new chronicity inpsychosocial care, considering the different points-of-view of its professionals and its users and their families. The research was qualitative, a field research one, based on half-structured interviews, performed in one of the first psychosocial care centers organized in Rio de Janeiro, with professionals, users and their families, as well as the participatoryobservation of the weekly staff meetings. The material is sustained by the social constructionist perspective, based on the discursive practices and daily production. The analysis categories were organized according to the subjects presented by the interviewees, and the bibliography of chronic diseases in mental care. The study indicated the satisfaction of the users and their families with the quality of the service; the users, called by the specialized literature as the new chronic ones, have been discussed by the professionals; the “problematic users” reveal the main challenges in the relationship between the staff and the users. The main conclusion of this study is that these new services cannot produce really innovative practices if they are based on the psychiatric paradigm...

ABSTRACT

Wounding caused local and systemic induction of lipoxygenase (LOX) activity in passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) leaves, while exposing intact plants to methyl jasmonate (MJ) vapor provoked a much stronger response. Western blot analysis of these leaf protein extracts using polyclonal antibodies against cucumber LOX, revealed an accumulation of a 90 kDa protein, consistent with LOX enzymatic assays. The inducible LOX was purified to apparent homogeneity, and in vitro analysis of LOXactivity using linoleic acid as substrate showed that it possesses C-13 specificity. Immunocytochemical localization studies using leaf tissue from MJ-treated plants demonstrated that the inducible LOX was compartmented in large quantities in the chloroplasts of mesophyll cells, associated with the stroma. The results suggest that the wound response in passion fruit plants may be mediated by a chloroplast 13-LOX, a key enzyme of the octadecanoid defense-signaling pathway.
