ABSTRACT

Nowadays, getting advantageous offensive situations in high-level basketball is being increasingly harder, so taking advantage of any situation in the game since the team has the ball is essential to be competitive. Therefore, the goal to achieve in this study is to evaluate using a mixed method strategy the behaviors happening in the application of the technical-tactical means performed in the transition play of professional basketball in Spain. An ad hoc observation tool made of 11 criteria and 83 exhaustive and mutually exclusive categories (E/ME) has been designed and validated by means of data quality and generalizability analyses. Indexes obtained show high reliability and validity allowing the proposed actions to be recorded (correlation coefficients are above 0.95 and generalizability coefficients are above 0.90 in all cases). A total number of 128 situations corresponding to eight games of Unicaja de Málaga in the Endesa League in the 18/19 season were observed with the Hoisan software. The analysis of the relationships among behaviors was performed using the polar coordinates technique where the one-on-one initiation, outside the zone, has been used as focal behavior. The estimation of the functions representing the vectors has also been performed to model the best fit that estimates, starting from a focal category, the relationship among this focal behavior and the rest of the mating behaviors for possible future observations. The results show significant relationships between the selected focal behavior and the mating behaviors, showing indications of behaviors allowing tactical interpretation of the game and the definition of intervention programs to improve the performance of the team.

ABSTRACT

(AU)

In recent years, there has been an increased interest in knowing the most effective actions during competition, as this fact has proven essential to improve the performance of players in elite sport; particularly in team sports, tactical analysis has grownexponentially. The objective of this study was to detect the relationships that were obtained between the finishing behaviors of the inside players of a basketball team and it is impact on team performance. To do so, and using nomothetic, follow-up and multidimensional observational design, polar coordinates analysis was performed from the observations of the game of the Spanish men basketball team during European Championships in 2015. The observational tool, formed by 5 criteria and 29 exhaustive and mutually exclusive categories, was created and passed the data quality analysis required in Observational Methodology. A total of 316 offensive actions were registered and revealed the influence of the inside players in the static attack. The results showed ahigh effectiveness when the attacks are finished by inside players, and the high offensive production of these players in individual actions, being able to get baskets or cause fouls to their defenders. Polar coordinates analysis has been shown as a useful technique to tactical analysis of the behaviors that occur in competitive sport. (AU)

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to analyze counterattack actions by elite and under-16 players in men's handball using a methodologically validated taxonomic system. We analyzed counterattack actions in 17 games involving elite players as well as 10 games in Spanish championship of under-16 regional teams. We used the HOISAN software package and employed the polar coordinate analysis technique from the perspective of genuine retrospectivity. The taxonomy of the coding system was developed through a combination of a field format system and an exhaustive and mutually exclusive (E/ME) system of categories. The instrument includes 19 criteria and 148 categories. The focal categories used in this study were behaviors having to do with ball recovery, ball transport and counterattack completion. Differences between the studied populations were found for counterattack completion, deployment, transport and ball recovery. Technical errors were associated with the 6:0 defense in the elite categories and with the 5:1 defense in the under-16 category. In the senior categories, the number of players participating in counterattacks tended to be higher and a numerical advantage in the opponent's half of the court was associated with the team being ahead in the score; in the under-16 category, this behavior was associated with trailing in the score. We also observed that greater defender and goalkeeper effectiveness gives rise to more counterattack situations and under more favorable circumstances, and that this effectiveness is a determining factor in the success of a counterattack. The polar coordinate technique has estimated the technical-tactical relations in competition, which will allow to determine the psychological intervention strategies that improve performance

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The regular practice of physical activity contributes to weight control and improves maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), socialization and quality of life. AIM: To determine the effect of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity on body composition and VO2max in a group of overweight school-age males. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We studied fifty-five overweight males aged 15.6 ± 0.7 years. Participants were divided in two groups (experimental and control groups). The intervention in the experimental group was the practice of small-sided games during 60 minutes, two days per week and during 11 weeks. At baseline and the end of the intervention, body composition was measured using bioimpedance and VO2max was calculated using the Course Navette test. RESULTS: A 7% reduction in the percentage of body fat and a 9% increase in VO2max were observed in the experimental group (p < 0.01). No changes were recorded in the control group. CONCLUSIONS: Eleven weeks of small-sided exercises performed twice per week increased VO2max and reduced fat mass in overweight adolescents.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to analyse the relationship between self-concept and several variables of physical fitness, as well as the body fat percentage. The participants in the study were 283 teenagers from the city of Malaga (Spain), whose age ranged between 14 and 16 years old (M = 15.14; SD = .76). The "Autoconcepto Forma 5" questionnaire (AF5) was used to evaluate the multidimensional self-concept (academic, social, emotional, physical, and family self-concept). Moreover, the body fat percentage was measured by means of a bioelectrical impedance analysis. The Course-Navette test was used to assess the maximal oxygen consumption. Other measured variables were the time to run 50 metres, the distance jumped horizontally, and the range of movement (by means of a deep trunk flexion test). The linear regression and correlation analysis highlighting that the variables which have the strongest association with self-concept are the body fat percentage and the maximal oxygen consumption. Besides, physical and emotional dimensions are those that have been predicted with a higher percentage of explained variance
