ABSTRACT

Chenopodin is an 11S-type globulin purified from Chenopodium quinoa seeds, which can bind carbohydrates and hemagglutinating human erythrocytes. The present study aimed to evaluate the N-terminal structure of the heterodimeric Chenopodin and its effects in models of inflammation. Chenopodin presented two subunits on its structure and has N-terminal homology with other Chenopodin in 92%. Chenopodin decreased paw edema and neutrophil recruitment induced by carrageenan in mice. Concluding, we demonstrated that Chenopodin exhibits in vivo anti-inflammatory activity.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The Brazilian Cerrado presents a wide variety of natural products, including the Pequi (Caryocar brasiliense). The important factor that determines the dietary and nutritional ideality of protein is degestitibility. This work aims to evaluate the protein digestibility of Pequi seeds and the presence of anti-nutritional factors. The protein Pequi almonds were extracted, toasted and untoasted. Evaluation digestibility was structurally characterized by SDS-PAGE 15%, which can be used to analyze simulated gastric fluid (SFG) and digestion in intestinal fluid (SFI) in the presence of pepsin and trypsin/chymotrypsin. The extract from Pequi almonds showed inhibitory activity and was not detected hemagglutination. The intensity of the bands according to 2S albumins, after heat treatment, did not decrease in comparison to the condition native, significantly. In the crisp crude extract, which was incubated under SGF and SIF, the intensity of the corresponding bands at 8 and 3 kDa was resistant to SGF and indigestible after 4 hours under SIF. The characterization of Pequi almonds demonstrated that the product of the crude extract has anti-nutritional factors, which were confirmed by evaluating digestibility.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Inguinal hernia repair is among the most common procedures performed worldwide and the laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) approach is a recognized and effective surgical technique. Although technically advantageous because of the option of no mesh fixation and no need for creation of a peritoneal flap resulting, in less postoperative pain and faster recovery, TEP has not achieved the popularity it deserves, mainly because of its complexity and steep learning curve. Minilaparoscopy was first described in the 1990s and has recently gained significantly from better instrumentation that may increase TEP's effectiveness and acceptance. We performed a prospective study, to analyze the outcomes of minilaparoscopy in pain and operative time when compared to the conventional laparoscopic technique in hernia repair. METHODS: Fifty-eight laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs were performed: 36 by traditional laparoscopic technique and 22 by minilaparoscopic instruments (mini). A study protocol was applied prospectively for data collection. Variables analyzed were early postoperative pain (at hour 6 after procedure), pain at discharge, use of on-demand analgesics, and operative time. RESULTS: The mini group presented reduced early postoperative pain and operative time. The present study also suggests less postoperative pain at discharge with mini procedures, although this difference was not statistically significant. No difference between the groups regarding on-demand use of analgesics was found. CONCLUSIONS: This study corroborates findings in previously published papers that have shown the feasibility of minilaparoscopy in laparoscopic TEP hernia repair and its benefits regarding postoperative pain, operative time, and aesthetic outcomes.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Lipid profile control is a key measure in order to reduce the incidence of future cardiac events in the setting of coronary artery disease. We aim to determine which lipid profile parameter has greater influence on atheroma size using intravascular ultrasound analysis of moderate lesions. Methods: We performed intravascular ultrasound analysis in a consecutive series of 31 patients presenting 35 moderate lesions, measuring the cross-sectional area (CSA) of vessel, lumen, plaque & media (P&M) and plaque burden at the minimal lumen area...

ABSTRACT

Fornece bibliografia.
