ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Like many other proteins, those belonging to the signal transduction cascade initiating sporulation (Spo0 pathway) have conserved protein domains (Capra and Laub in Annu Rev Microbiol 66:325-47, 2012). Improvements in bioinformatics applications to discover proteins involved in the initiation of the sporulating cascade in newly sequenced genomes is an important task that requires rigorous comparative genomic methods and manual curation to identify endospore-forming bacteria. This note aims to present a collection of predicted proteins involved in the Spo0 pathway found in the proteomes of fully sequenced and manually curated endospore-forming Firmicutes species. This collection may serve as a guide to conduct future experiments in endospore formers in genomic and metagenomic projects. DATA DESCRIPTION: Similar to the report of Davidson et al. (PLoS Genet 14:1-33, 2018), we used Pfam profiles (El-Gebali et al. in Nucleic Acids Res 47:D427-32, 2019) defining each protein and the genomic context surrounding the query gene to predict probable orthologs of the Spo0 pathway in Firmicutes. We present in this note a collection of 325 Firmicutes species organized by phylogenetic class and classified as spore formers, non-spore formers or unknown spore phenotype based on published literature, for which we predicted probable orthologs defining the signal transduction pathway initiating sporulation.

ABSTRACT

In Geobacter sulfurreducens, metal reduction and generation of bioelectricity require the participation of several elements, and among them, the type IV pili has an essential role. The pilus is composed of multiple PilA monomers. Expression of pilA gene depends mainly on the σ54 factor and the response regulator protein PilR. In this work, we characterized the role of the PilS-PilR two-component system in the regulation of the pilA gene expression. Experimental evidence indicates that PilS is autophosphorylated at the His-334 residue, which in turn is transferred to the conserved Asp-53 in PilR. Contrary to other PilS-PilR systems, substitution D53N in PilR resulted in higher activation of the pilA gene. By using a pilA::luxCDABE fusion with different promoter fragments and in vitro DNA-binding assays, we demonstrated the existence of multiple functional PilR binding sites. A regulatory model in which the non-phosphorylated PilR protein directs activation of pilA expression by binding to two sites in the promoter region of this gene is presented.

ABSTRACT

In recent years there has been reconsidered the use of antibiotics such as colistin in infections caused by multiresistant microorganisms, this situation has caused the resurgence of adverse reactions such as nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity that led to its abandonment in the 80s. Herein, we present a case of a 75 years old woman with neurotoxicity associated with colistin treatment manifested by postanesthesia prolonged neuromuscular blockade.

ABSTRACT

Intubation using flexible fiberoptic in awake patient, now is the technique of choice for the management of patients with difficult airways, unfortunately not all anesthesiologists are trained to perform this technique, it is the duty of every anesthesiologist control permeability the airway, this technique becomes the gold standard for management of intubation in patients with difficult airway in anesthesiology. This case report is of a patient with cervical spinal cord trauma, immobilized with Halo - Vest (halotorax) which was guided fiberoptic intubation with the patient awake, managed by the anesthesiology service, procedure performed in and allowed successfully performing surgical fixation of fractures and cervical listesis.

ABSTRACT

The general anesthesia with low flow, is for us a recent practice but not in Spain and Mexico, this technique is practiced since ten years ago and require modern anesthesia machines that are equipped with a circle rebreathing system, monitoring of inspiratory and expiratory gas concentrations necessary This project has permitted propose new technique that today is a need to facilitates precise anesthetics administration for the patient. That reduce the anesthetics risks doing a efective, safe and eficient anesthesia but also makes gases more warm and humid reducing the postoperatory morbidity airway patient's. When Fresh Gas Flow is reduced to 1.0 L/min, reduce the costs of volatile anesthetics and provide considerable economic and ecological benefits, but may also improve the quality of patient care
