ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the disinfection effect of high-energy pulse ultraviolet disinfection equipment in medical institution settings. Methods: The disinfection effect was evaluated through field tests and laboratory tests. Among them, 135 high-frequency contact points were selected from nine departments in the field test. Samples were collected before and after disinfection, and the disinfection effects of 75% alcohol wipes wiping disinfection, high-energy pulse ultraviolet disinfection robot disinfection and high-energy pulse ultraviolet handheld disinfection instrument were compared. In the laboratory test, 30 infected areas of the simulated test table were exposed to vertical ultraviolet irradiation and the bacterial-killing rate before and after disinfection was calculated. Results: In the field test, the bacteria-killing rates of 75% alcohol wipes, high-energy pulse ultraviolet disinfection robot and high-energy pulse ultraviolet handheld disinfection instrument were 94.99%, 91.53% and 95.94%, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant. The disinfection effect of the high-energy pulse ultraviolet handheld disinfection instrument was better than that of the high-energy pulse ultraviolet disinfection robot (P values <0.05). In the laboratory test, the killing log value of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli on the carrier were both greater than 3.00. In the simulated field test, the killing log value of Staphylococcus aureus on the surface samples were 4.99. Conclusion: Both the high-energy pulse ultraviolet handheld disinfection instrument and the high-energy pulse ultraviolet disinfection robot have good disinfection effects, which are similar to the disinfection effects of conventional 75% alcohol wipes.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To report the clinical features and genetic variations of monogenic lupus caused by DNASE1L3 deficiency and to introduce preliminary experience on diagnosis and treatment for this disease. Methods: Clinical data of 3 children from the same pedigree were collected who were diagnosed with DNASE1L3 defect-associated monogenic lupus in August 2020 by Department of Pediatrics, Peking Union Medical College Hospital referred from Department of Pediatrics, Boai Hospital of Zhongshan. DNA was extracted from the peripheral blood of the patients and their parients to perform genetic analysis and confirmation. Six interferon-stimulated genes were relatively quantified to examine the activation of the type I interferon signaling. "DNASE1L3" "systemic lupus erythematosus" and "SLE" were searched in PubMed, Wangfang Data, CNKI databases for related reports from database established date to June 2022. Spectrum of genetic variations and clinical phenotypes were analyzed in combination with this pedigree. Results: Case 1, a 14-year-old girl with edema, hematuria, and heavy proteinuria, presented with membranous nephropathy. Case 2, the 12-year-old younger brother of case 1 with hematologic, cardiac, pulmonary, renal involvement, positive antinuclear antibody, positive anti-double-stranded DNA antibody and low complement C3, manifested with systemic lupus erythematosus. Case 3, the 8-year-old younger sister of case 1 with hematologic, cardiac, pulmonary and renal involvement, positive antinuclear antibody, positive anti-double-stranded DNA antibody, and low complement C3 and C4, manifested with systemic lupus erythematosus. Genetic testing revealed that all 3 patients carried homozygous deletions in exons 3 and 4 on DNASE1L3 gene. Interferon scores were elevated in case 1, 2 and their parents but normal in case 3. All 3 patients were diagnosed with monogenic lupus caused by DNASE1L3 defects. Literature searching identified 10 relevant publications in English and 0 publication in Chinese, involving 42 patients from 18 pedigrees (including the 3 cases from this pedigree). Nine variants were found: c.289_290delAC (p.T97Ifs*2), c.643delT (p.W215Gfs*2), c.320+4delAGTA, c.321-1G>A, Ex5 del, c.433G>A, c.581G>A (p.C194Y), c.537G>A (p.W179X), and Ex3-4 del. The hotspot variants were c.643delT (43% (36/84)) and c.289_290delAC (36% (30/84)). Kidney was affected in 31 cases (74%) of the 42 cases. Among the 25 patients, joints were affected in 16 cases (64%), fever were reported in 13 cases (52%) hematologic system was involved 13 cases (52%), rash was present in 10 cases (40%), intestinal tract was involved in 8 cases (32%), lungs were involved in 6 cases (24%), eyes were involved in 4 cases (16%), and the heart was involved in 4 cases (16%). The 2 cardiopulmonary affected patients from literature showed poor prognosis, with 1 died, and 1 right heart failure. Conclusions: The clinical manifestations of monogenic lupus caused by DNASE1L3 defect are highly heterogenous, primarily with renal, blood, joint, intestinal, and cardiopulmonary involvement. There is no correlation between the genotype and the phenotype. DNASE1L3 defects were predominantly mediated by null varations including nonsense, splicing, frameshift and exon deletions. The hotspot variants are c.643delT and c.289_290delAC. DNASE1L3 defects should be cautioned in early-onset lupus-like patients with renal, joint and hematologic involvement. Cardiopulmonary involved patients require close monitoring for poor prognosis. Copy number variations should be carefully analyzed after negative whole exome sequencing.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of percutaneous curved kyphoplasty (PCK) for osteoporosis vertebral compression fractures (OVCF). Methods: This is a prospective study.Patients with OVCF who underwent PCK at the Department of Orthopedics,Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University from June 2018 to June 2019 were included.All the operations were performed by the same surgeon.X-ray examination was performed before and after the operation to measure the vertebral height and Cobb angle.The visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI) scores were evaluated before and after the operation,and the amount of bone cement injected was record.The leakage rate and distribution of bone cement was observed by CT examination after the operation,and the postoperative complications was collected during the follow-up.Paired-t test was used to compare the related indexes before and after operation. Results: There were 32 patients in our study,including 8 males and 24 females,aged (74.9±9.9) years (range:64 to 81 years).The intraoperative bone cement injection volume was (4.2±1.5) ml(range:2 to 6 ml).According to the classification of distribution of bone cement,28 cases were rated as type Ⅰ and 4 cases were rated as type Ⅱ. Bone cement leakage was observed in 12 cases (37.5%),and there was no intraspinal leakage or venous leakage.The vertebral height was improved from (21.9±6.2) mm preoperatively to (24.3±4.3) mm postoperatively(t=-2.836,P=0.008),Cobb angle improved from(M(QR))14°(15°)preoperatively to 12.5°(12.75°)postoperatively(Z=-1.950,P=0.051),VAS improved from 6.8±0.7 preoperatively to 1.7±0.8 postoperatively (t=28.946,P<0.01),ODI score improved from 73.4±7.3 preoperatively to 21.3±5.7 postoperatively (t=32.250,P<0.01).The patients were followed up for (19.7±3.7) months (range:15 to 29 months).One patient had refracture (3.1%,1/32),and no other complications such as neurological dysfunction and pulmonary embolism occurred. Conclusions: The clinical effect of PCK in the treatment of OVCF was satisfactory.This technique could reduce the difficulty of puncture to a certain extent,and be beneficial to the distribution of bone cement.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analysis the expression of CD7 in NK/T-cell lymphoma as well as study the correlations between CD7 and clinical survival and prognosis. Methods: The clinical and pathological indicators of 112 NKTCL patients who were admitted to or consulted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between May 2008 and December 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. The CD7 expression in the tumor tissues was detected using immunohistochemistry staining, and the influence of CD7 expression on the survival and prognosis in the patients was analyzed. Results: The CD7 expression rate was 84.82% in 112 NKTCL patients, and its expression was not influenced by sex, age, and the primary site. An analysis of the complete clinical data of 72 patients showed that the CD7 expression was significantly correlated with the PINK score, tumor metastasis, and peripheral blood EBV-DNA level. However, the Ann Arbor stage, bone marrow involvement, B symptoms, IPI/aaIPI score, Ki-67, EBER, TIA-1, Granzyme B, LDH, and ß(2)-MG were not associated with the CD7 expression. The 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year overall survival (OS) rates of the 72 patients were 81.2%, 61.8%, and 58.8%, respectively, and the progression-free survival (PFS) rates were 53.5%, 29.4%, and 24.0%, respectively. The median overall survival (median-OS, mOS) was 81 mon, and the median progression-free survival (median-PFS, mPFS) was 14 mon. The 3-year OS rates in the CD7-positive group and the CD7-negative group were 58.1% and 83.9%, respectively, (P>0.05) . The 3-year PFS rates were 21.7% and 51.9%, respectively (P<0.05) . The univariate analysis showed that age, primary tumor site, Ann Arbor stage, IPI/aaIPI score, PINK score, LDH, ß(2)-microglobulin, EBV-DNA, Ki-67, and CD7 influenced patient prognosis. The multivariate analysis showed that Ann Arbor stage and CD7 were independent prognostic factors for PFS, while PINK score and Ki-67 were independent prognostic factors for OS. Conclusions: The expression rate of CD7 in NKTCL was high and was closely related to poor patient prognosis. The patients with high levels of EBV-DNA, metastatic disease, or high PINK score were more likely to express CD7.

OBJECTIVE: In 2016 WHO classification, EBV +DLBCL of the elderly was replaced by EBV+ DLBCL NOS. This is due to the fact that many young patients of EBV+ DLBCL were found in recent years. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this study, we retrospectively analyzed clinical features and survival outcomes of EBV positive DLBCL patients in different age groups. All the patients treated at a single center. RESULTS: When we use different ages (40, 50 and 60 years old) as cutoffs, the prevalence of EBV positive DLBCL was 12.0%, 12.3% and 13.0% in younger patients and 19.0%, 15.4% and 13.8% in elder patients respectively. Whatever the age cutoff was, EBV positive associated with unfavorable clinical prognosis in elder groups. When we use 40 and 50 years old as age cutoffs, poor impacts of EBV positive on overall survival and progression-free survival were observed only in elder patients, but not in younger patients. It should be noted that when we use 60 years old as age cutoff, the results were the opposite. CONCLUSIONS: EBV+ DLBCL patients with age of 40 to 60 years old showed poorer prognostic features than EBV- DLBCL patients; however, patients in other age groups did not show evident differences in prognosis between EBV+ DLBCL patients and EBV- DLBCL patients. This finding was not reported before.

ABSTRACT

To quantitatively determine the effect of Xiluodu Reservoir on the temperature of the surrounding mountains, the temperature differences between various locations and the reservoir were calculated based on Landsat 8 thermal infrared sensor (TIRS) data. Elevation, slope, aspect, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and visual field were selected as the impact factors, and the most significant grid size used to explore the effect of reservoir on the surrounding mountains was determined by spatial analysis and partial correlation analysis. The effect of the Xiluodu Reservoir on the surrounding mountains' temperature was then quantitatively studied while accounting for the effect of water surface width on temperature. The results are summarized as follows. The most significant grid size for determining the influence of Xiluodu Reservoir on the surrounding mountains' temperature is 90 m. The effect range threshold of the entire reservoir on the temperature of the surrounding mountains is approximately 600 m, and the partial correlation coefficient in each buffer area decreases gradually with increasing distance from the reservoir. The effect threshold of the reservoir on the temperature of the surrounding mountains is approximately 1,500 m in the head area with a water surface width approximately 1,000 m, but it is negligible in the tributary area where the width is approximately 60 m.

ABSTRACT

As one of the key components to support all the magnet coils, the GS faces engineering challenge to its operational safety throughout the design, qualification and manufacturing process as a result of extreme loading condition. The structural safety of GS was confirmed by both the FEM analysis and the semi-prototype engineering test after a long time of design, qualification, manufacture and assembly. Welding the cooling pipe to the flexible plate without obvious deformation as well as tightening uniformly and precisely all the tie rods to clamp the plates were carried out successfully during manufacturing. The result of final vacuum leakage test indicates that the GS can not only meet the ITER vacuum requirement but also have no slow out-gassing. The first set of GS which has passed the ITER acceptance test is to be delivered to ITER construction site soon.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the efficacy, adverse reactions, feasibility, and acceptability of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) treating drug-naive adult patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), and provide basis for further study with a large sample. Methods: The study was performed in the Neuromodulation laboratory, Department of Neurology of Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University (Beijing, China) from July, 2017 to June, 2018. Thirty Eligible first-episode MDD outpatients were randomized 1∶1 to receive active tACS or sham intervention. The tACS was administered in a 40 minute, 77.5 Hz frequency, 15 mA session with one forehead (Fp1, Fpz, and Fp2, in the 10/20 international placement system, 4.45 cm×9.53 cm) and two mastoid (3.18 cm×3.81 cm) stimulation for 20 times in 4 consecutive weeks at fixed day time frame once daily from Monday through Friday, with weekends off (week 4), followed by 4 weeks with no tACS treatment (week 8). By utilizing the Hamilton rating scale for depression-17 item (HRSD-17) to assess the depressive severity of MDD patients, adverse events were administered by the treatment-emergent adverse events, the Young mania rating scale, and the self-made common questionnaire on cranial electrical stimulation. The primary efficacy outcome was the remission rate defined as HRSD-17 score ≤7 at week 8. Secondary outcomes included the rates of remission at week 4 and response at weeks 4 and 8. Safety was assessed by evaluation of adverse events. Also the proportions of participants accepting the intervention and this study procedure were evaluated at weeks 4 and 8. Results: Thirty MDD patients completed the study, and both groups had no statistical differences on their demographic characteristics (P>0.05). At week 8, the active group had a remission rate of 10/15, which was higher than 3/15 in the sham group (P<0.05). Also, the remission rate (14/15) in the active group was higher than 5/15 of the sham group at week 4 (P<0.05). For the response rates, significant differences were found between groups at week 8. For safety, both groups showed no severe adverse events and no mania/hypomania. One participant per group had 2 times of tinnitus cerebri during the intervention days. All patients accepted the intervention and the study procedure. Conclusions: The pilot study indicated that tACS with 77.5 Hz and 15 mA may have a therapeutic effect on depressive symptoms. It is well-tolerated and safe, as well as feasible and acceptable for adults with MDD.

PURPOSE: To assess the efficacy and safety of drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) in liver cancer patients with different times of previous conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) treatments. METHODS: 367 liver cancer patients about to receive DEB-TACE treatment were enrolled in this prospective cohort study. All patients were divided into no previous cTACE group (NPC group), 1-2 times previous cTACE group (PC group) and triple or above previous cTACE group (TPC group) according to the times of previous cTACE treatments. RESULTS: There was no difference in complete response (CR) (P = 0.671) and objective response rate (ORR) (P = 0.062) among three groups. Additionally, no difference in overall survival (OS) among groups (P = 0.899) was found. As to liver function, most liver function indexes were deteriorative at 1 week after DEB-TACE operation, but returned to baseline at 1-3 months after DEB-TACE operation in all three groups, while percentage of abnormal total bile acid (TBA) patients was higher in TPC group than NPC and PC groups at 1-3 month post-DEB-TACE (P = 0.018). As for safety profiles, the incidence of pain during DEB-TACE operation was lower in TPC group compared to NPC and PC groups (P = 0.005), while no difference of other adverse events was found during and 1 month post-DEB-TACE treatment among three groups. CONCLUSION: DEB-TACE treatment was equally efficient and tolerated in liver cancer patients with different times of previous cTACE treatments.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To study the epidemiological and pathological features of sudden death (SD) in Yunnan Province and to provide scientific evidence for prevention and forensic identification of sudden death. METHODS: Totally 363 SD cases were collected from the autopsies between 2009 and 2017 in the Forensic Centre of Kunming Medical University. The related factors such as etiology, age, inducing factor, time interval between the onset of disease and death, morbidity season and pathological change were retrospectively analysed. RESULTS: The incidence of SD in males was significantly higher than that of females. The peak age was ≥35-55 years. The mortality rate was relatively high within 6 h after the onset of disease. The season order with descending number of deaths was spring, summer, winter and autumn. The top ten causes of SD were coronary heart disease, sudden unexplained death (SUD), cerebral hemorrhage, acute hemorrhagic necrotic pancreatitis, aortic dissection rupture, cardiomyopathy, pneumonia, pulmonary thromboembolism, amniotic fluid embolism and allergy. Exercise, infusion, surgery, medication and minor injury were the most common predisposing factors of sudden coronary death. Consciousness disorder or coma, chest pain or chest tightness, and abdominal pain were the most common premortem symptoms of sudden coronary death. CONCLUSIONS: The SD is more common in middle-aged males, which is the key population for the prevention of SD. For the forensic identification and prevention of SD, the attention on SUD should be paid.

Objective: To analyze features and the related factors of myoclonus of 47 patients with probable or possible Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). Methods: All patients diagnosed with"suspected CJD" and hospitalized in Xuanwu Hospital from January 2013 to November 2015 were included, and their clinical information and myoclonus features were analyzed. Age, clinical, course and manifestation, EEG, MRI, CSF14-3-3 features between myoclonus positive group and negative group were compared, and the correlation between myoclonus features and these factors was analyzed using Spearman correlation analyses. Results: (1) Occurrence rate of extrapyramidal symptoms (P=0.028), visual impairment (P=0.025) and dyssomnia (P=0.004) were higher in myoclonus positive group, the differences were significant. Spearman correlation analysis showed that myoclonus was related to extrapyramidal symptoms (P=0.024), visual impairment (P=0.030) and dyssomnia (P=0.001). (2) EEG features showed no significant difference between myoclonus positive and negative group. The 17 myoclonus positive patients were divided into three subgroups, typical EEG change group 52.94%(9/17), atypical EEG change group 23.53%(4/17) and no EEG change group 23.53%(4/17). Difference of myoclonus and other clinical manifestations were not significant among the three subgroups(P>0.05); correlation analysis also found no statistically significant correlation between myoclonus and EEG (P=0.201). Conclusions: Myoclonus often occurs after the damage of locomotor system (including pyramidal tract, extracorticospinal tract and cerebellum) among CJD patients, and it is related to extrapyramidal symptoms , visual impairment and dyssomnia . There is undefined correlation between myoclonus and periodic sharp wave complexes (PSWC) in EEG.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the clinical and scalp video electroencephalographic(EEG) characteristics of insula lobe epilepsy identified by intracranial electrode, and to provide some references for early diagnosis and clinical evaluation in patients with insula lobe epilepsy. Methods: A total of 12 patients diagnosed with insula lobe epilepsy identified by intracranial electrode were included from Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University from January 2013 to December 2015.Their clinical and EEG data were analyzed. Results: 91.7% of patients had sensory aura before seizure, and had clear consciousness at onset initial time.Visceral motor and visceral sensation were the most common symptoms, and the epilepsy was always ended with somatic movement.There was no prominent characteristic changes in scalp EEG. Conclusions: Clinical features are important for insula lobe epilepsy diagnosis.When patients present symtoms aforementioned, insula lobe epilepsy should be considered.

ABSTRACT

We present a novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate based on graphene oxide/silver nanoparticles/silicon pyramid arrays structure (GO/Ag/PSi). The SERS behaviors are discussed and compared by the detection of R6G. Based on the contrast experiments with PSi, GO/PSi, Ag/PSi and GO/AgA/PSi as SERS substrate, the perfect bio-compatibility, good homogeneity and chemical stability were confirmed. We also calculated the electric field distributions using Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) analysis to further understand the GO/Ag/PSi structure as a perfect SERS platform. These experimental and theoretical results imply that the GO/Ag/PSi with regular pyramids array is expected to be an effective substrate for label-free sensitive SERS detections in areas of medicine, food safety and biotechnology.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Use of ultrasonic surgical instrument is gaining popularity for dissection and coagulation in open surgery. However, there is still no consensus on the efficacy and safety of its use compared with conventional surgical technique in open gastrectomy for gastric cancer. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the role and surgical outcomes of ultrasonic dissection (UD) compared with conventional electrocautery (EC). METHODS: A systematic literature search was performed to identify all studies comparing UD and EC in gastric cancer surgery. Intraoperative and postoperative outcomes were compared using weighted mean differences (WMDs) and odds ratios (ORs). RESULTS: Five studies were included in this meta-analysis, comprising 489 patients. Meta-analysis results showed that compared with EC, UD was associated with significantly shorter operation time (P = 0.03), less intraoperative blood loss (P = 0.002), lower morbidity (P = 0.02), and reduced postoperative hospital stay (P = 0.03). However, there was no significant difference between the two surgical techniques with regards to postoperative abdominal drainage (P = 0.17), and total cost in hospital (P = 0.59). CONCLUSIONS: Compared to EC, the use of UD during open gastrectomy can provide several improved outcomes for operation time, intraoperative blood loss, overall morbidity, and postoperative hospital stay. It appears that UD can be used instead of conventional EC in open gastric cancer surgery, although more larger trials with long follow-up should be performed.

ABSTRACT

Glioma is a serious life-threatening disease, the pathogenesis of which remains to be investigated. The objective of the present investigation was to explore the expression and clinical significance of tumor suppressor gene (P53), O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in glioma. Immunohistochemical staining was applied to study the clinical characteristics of 40 samples from glioma patients, detect the expression of and analyse the relationship between P53, MGMT and EGFR and glioma. The results demonstrated that the positive expression rate of P53 was 47.5% in 40 cases of glioma samples, of which the expression of P53 in the high grade glioma was higher than that of the low grade samples (P < 0.05); the positive expression rate of MGMT was 37.5%, but there was no significant significance of MGMT expression between the high grade glioma and the low grade glioma (P >0.05); the positive expression rate of EGFR was 55%, of which the expression of EGFR of the high grade glioma was higher than that of the low grade glioma (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the expressions of P53, MGMT and EGFR in the glioma patients of different ages, gender and with different tumor sizes. The expressions of P53 and MGMT were negatively correlated (P<0.05). The expressions of P53 and EGFR were positively correlated (P<0.05). In conclusion, P53, EGFR and MGMT could play a role in the occurrence, development and deterioration of glioma.

ABSTRACT

Extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma (ENKL) is an aggressive neoplasm with poor prognosis. Currently, there is no consensus on the optimal treatment of this disease. In this study, we report the efficacy of a pegaspargase (PEG-Asp)-based chemotherapy, a DDGP regimen (PEG-Asp, dexamethasone, cisplatin, gemcitabine), for the treatment of newly-diagnosed ENKL. From August 2010 to May 2012, 12 patients with newly-diagnosed stage II - IV ENKL were initially treated with a DDGP regimen in our center. Ten patients (10/12, 83.3%) achieved complete response (CR) and two (2/12, 16.7%) achieved partial response (PR). The objective overall response rate (ORR) was 100%. Three patients (3/12, 25.0%) relapsed, and as a result, two died of disease. Eight patients (8/12, 66.7%) were alive with no evidence of disease (NOD) after a median follow-up of 19 months (range 16 - 31 months). Hematologic toxicity was the most frequent toxicity reported in this study. Grade 3/4 leukopenia and neutropenia were common and both occurred in eight patients (8/12, 66.7%), respectively. Additionally, six patients (6/12, 50.0%) experienced grade 3/4 thrombocytopenia and three (3/12, 25.0%) experienced grade 3/4 anemia. However, no patient died of hematologic toxicity. Our results demonstrate the significant efficacy and safety profile of a DDGP regimen in the treatment of newly-diagnosed ENKL, and indicate the potential of this regimen as a first-line therapy against this disease.

ABSTRACT

Direct deposition of graphene on a dielectric substrate is demonstrated using a chemical vapor deposition system with a two-temperature reactor. The two-temperature reactor is utilized to offer sufficient, well-proportioned floating Cu atoms and to provide a temperature gradient for facile synthesis of graphene on dielectric surfaces. The evaporated Cu atoms catalyze the reaction in the presented method. C atoms and Cu atoms respectively act as the nuclei for forming graphene film in the low-temperature zone and the zones close to the high-temperature zones. A uniform and high-quality graphene film is formed in an atmosphere of sufficient and well-proportioned floating Cu atoms. Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy confirm the presence of uniform and high-quality graphene.

ABSTRACT

Two piggyBac-like elements (PLEs) were identified in the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera, and were designated as HaPLE1 and HaPLE2. HaPLE1 is flanked by 16 bp inverted terminal repeats (ITRs) and the duplicated TTAA tetranucleotide, and contains an open reading frame (ORF) of 1794 bp with the presumed DDD domain, indicating that this element may be an active autonomously mobile element. HaPLE2 was found with the same ITRs, but lacks the majority of an ORF-encoding transposase. Thus, this element was thought to be a non-autonomous element. Transposable element displays and distribution of the two PLEs in individuals from three different H. armigera populations suggest that transmobilization of HaPLE2 by the transposase of HaPLE1 may be likely, and mobilization of HaPLE1 might occur not only within the same individual, but also among different individuals. In addition, horizontal transfer was probably involved in the evolution of PLEs between H. armigera and Trichoplusia ni.

ABSTRACT

DNA index and cell cycle distribution were studied by flow cytometry in 32 cases of ovarian borderline cystadenoma, 16 ovarian cystadenocarcinoma and 12 ovarian benign cystadenoma, and their relations to pathological patterns of the diseases were inquired. The results showed that the DNA index and S+G2M phase in cell cycle of the diseases were related to their pathological patterns. The DNA index and S+G2M cell were increased by turn from benign to borderline and to malignant tumor. DNA index and cell cycle distribution might be valuable in reflecting the biological behavior of deteriorating ovarian cystadenoma. The authors consider that determination of DNA content and cell cycle could be biological indexes of supplementary diagnosis for the deterioration of borderline tumor.
