ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery disease (CAD) remains a significant global health issue, particularly when complicated by left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) < 35%. Although coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is recommended for such cases, the unclear prognosis necessitates further investigation. METHOD: This retrospective study aimed to determine whether cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging provides additional prognostic value in guiding effective clinical management. The study included patients with CAD and LVEF < 35% who underwent CABG surgery after enhanced CMR between March 2016 and March 2023. CMR was performed using a 3.0T scanner with steady-state free precession and phase-sensitive inversion recovery sequences. Prognostic analysis of clinical and CMR data was conducted, with the endpoint defined as cardiovascular death, revascularization, hospitalization for heart failure, or stroke. Statistical analysis included Student's t-test, chi-squared test, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis, receiver operating characteristic analysis, Harrell C statistical analysis, integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and net reclassification improvement (NRI) analysis. RESULT: The study included 152 patients (mean age 58.6 ± 9.7 years; 138 men). During a mean follow-up of 2.0 years, 8 patients experienced cardiovascular death, while 1 case had revascularization, 13 had hospitalization for heart failure, and 11 had a stroke. Left atrial diameter index (LADi) (hazard ratio [HR], 1.08 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.02-1.15]; P = 0.04) and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) mass (HR, 1.03 [95% CI: 1.01-1.06]; P < 0.001) were associated with the endpoint, even after adjusting for multiple clinical variables. Adding LADi and LGE mass improved risk prediction for adverse events, as indicated by the C-index (0.738, p < 0.01), IDI (0.36), and NRI (0.13). CONCLUSION: Left atrial diameter index (LADi) and scar burden are valuable prognostic indicators in patients with LVEF < 35% undergoing CABG. They offer enhanced risk stratification beyond traditional clinical factors, highlighting their importance in guiding clinical management.

ABSTRACT

Heat stress is the most critical factor affecting animal feeding in summer. This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of heat stress on the feeding preference of yellow-feathered broilers and its possible mechanism. As a result, the preference of yellow-feathered broilers for Tenebrio molitor was significantly decreased, and the fear response and serum corticosterone of broilers were significantly increased when the ambient temperatures are 35 °C (P < 0.05). In the central nervous system, consistent with the change in feeding preference, decreased dopamine in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) and increased mRNA levels of MAO-B in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and NAc were found in yellow-feathered broilers (P < 0.05). In addition, we found significantly increased mRNA levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 1, corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 2 and glucocorticoid receptor in the VTA and NAc of female broilers (P < 0.05). However, no similar change was found in male broilers. On the other hand, the serum levels of insulin and glucagon-like peptide-1 were increased only in male broilers (P < 0.05). Accordingly, the mRNA levels of insulin receptor and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor in the VTA and the phosphorylation of mTOR and PI3K were increased only in male broilers (P < 0.05). In summary, the preference of yellow-feathered broilers for Tenebrio molitor feed decreased under heat stress conditions, and hedonic feeding behavior was significantly inhibited. However, the mechanism by which heat stress affects hedonic feeding behavior may contain gender differences. The insulin signaling pathway may participate in the regulation of heat stress on the male broiler reward system, while stress hormone-related receptors in the midbrain may play an important role in the effect of heat stress on the reward system of female broilers.

ABSTRACT

Pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA) is a rare pulmonary vascular disease with nonspecific symptoms and various etiologies. As the disease progresses, in addition to the dilation of the pulmonary arteries, it may be accompanied by remodeling of the cardiac structure and changes in the morphology of the aorta. Recognizing the cause of PAA is therefore a clinically challenging task. In this review article, we provide an overview of various causes of PAA with the support of corresponding imaging findings on computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) examination. Firstly, from the perspective of hemodynamics, a logical diagnosis is provided according to whether the main pulmonary artery (MPA) is dilated, and whether the PA is dilated locally or diffusely. Secondly, for the imaging examination of vascular wall lesions, due to the limitations of ultrasound examination and interventional procedures, the irreplaceability of dual-phase CTPA examination in disease assessment is especially emphasized. Finally, for highly suspected disorders, it is necessary to comprehensively check with the patient whether there is a family history or past medical history. For patients with PAA, especially those with Marfan syndrome (MFS) or arteritis, adequate preoperative imaging evaluation, regular postoperative radiographic follow-up, and concurrent treatment of the underlying disease (if necessary) are crucial, which are related to the prognosis and long-term quality of life of such patients. Despite the nonspecific features of PAA presentation, a thorough examination of the patient's clinical history and imaging characteristics will play an important role in diagnosing PAA and planning patient management strategies.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly implemented in medical imaging practice, however, its impact on radiographers practice is not well studied. The aim of this study was to explore the perceived impact of AI on radiographers' activities and profession in Switzerland. METHODS: A survey conducted in the UK, translated into French and German, was disseminated through professional bodies and social media. The participants were Swiss radiographers (clinical/educators/ researchers/students) and physicians working within the medical imaging profession (radiology/nuclear medicine/radiation-oncology). The survey covered five sections: demographics, AI-knowledge, skills, confidence, perceptions about the AI impact. Descriptive, association statistics and qualitative thematic analysis were conducted. RESULTS: A total of 242 responses were collected (89% radiographers; 11% physicians). AI is being used by 43% of participants in clinical practice, but 64% of them did not feel confident with AI-terminology. Participants viewed AI as an opportunity (57%), while 19% considered it as a threat. The opportunities were associated with streamlining repetitive tasks, minimizing errors, increasing time towards patient-centered care, research, and patient safety. The significant threats identified were reduction on work positions (23%), decrease of the radiographers' expertise level due to automation bias (16%). Participants (68%) did not feel well trained/prepared to implement AI in their practice, highlighting the non-availability of specific training (88%). 93% of the participants mentioned that AI education should be included at undergraduate education program. CONCLUSION: Although most participants perceive AI as an opportunity, this study identified areas for improvement including lack of knowledge, educational supports/training, and confidence in radiographers. Customised training needs to be implemented to improve clinical practice and understanding of how AI can benefit radiographers.

ABSTRACT

Pulmonary artery stenosis represents a group of disorders involving main, branch or peripheral pulmonary arteries with pain, dyspnea, hemoptysis or even no symptoms. Early diagnosis and timely intervention are crucial for reducing mortality, but timely diagnosis is challenging due to the non-specific symptoms. Computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) is useful in the diagnosis because it can provide more details about abnormal changes in the lumen, vessel wall and adjacent mediastinal structures. Congenital and acquired pulmonary artery anomalies have some characteristics on CTPA, which can be useful for differential diagnosis. Awareness of these conditions is important for radiologists. This pictorial review provides an overview of CTPA imaging features of pulmonary artery stenosis.

ABSTRACT

A novel sliding mode control(NSMC) strategy combined with a fast terminal sliding mode observer(FTSMO) is suggested in this paper to solve the parameter variation issue of permanent magnet in-wheel motor(PMIWM) installed in the distributed drive electrical vehicle (DDEV). First, a novel sliding mode power converging law is employed to enhance the response speed of the PMIWM controller. Second, an FTSMO is suggested to compensate for the parameter variation of the PMIWM system to strengthen the robustness of the control object. Finally, a fuzzy controller is designed to adjust the control parameters of the NSMC to optimize the control performance. Several simulations and experiments demonstrate that the proposed FTSMO-NSMC scheme can precisely compensate for parameter variation of the control object and improve control accuracy effectively.

ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular computed tomography angiography (CTA) is a widely used imaging modality in the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. Advancements in CT imaging technology have further advanced its applications from high diagnostic value to minimising radiation exposure to patients. In addition to the standard application of assessing vascular lumen changes, CTA-derived applications including 3D printed personalised models, 3D visualisations such as virtual endoscopy, virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality, as well as CT-derived hemodynamic flow analysis and fractional flow reserve (FFRCT) greatly enhance the diagnostic performance of CTA in cardiovascular disease. The widespread application of artificial intelligence in medicine also significantly contributes to the clinical value of CTA in cardiovascular disease. Clinical value of CTA has extended from the initial diagnosis to identification of vulnerable lesions, and prediction of disease extent, hence improving patient care and management. In this review article, as an active researcher in cardiovascular imaging for more than 20 years, I will provide an overview of cardiovascular CTA in cardiovascular disease. It is expected that this review will provide readers with an update of CTA applications, from the initial lumen assessment to recent developments utilising latest novel imaging and visualisation technologies. It will serve as a useful resource for researchers and clinicians to judiciously use the cardiovascular CT in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

Nb-microalloyed steels are widely used in construction engineering fields due to their excellent mechanical properties, but they face serious corrosion problems in service environments. Pitting corrosion is the severest form of corrosion, and the types of inclusions are the leading cause to induce pitting corrosion. A new strategy is proposed to enhance the corrosion resistance of steels by achieving a beneficial transformation of inclusions with Ce treatment. In this paper, two types of Nb-microalloyed steels (0% Ce and 0.0058% Ce steel) were prepared to study the modification effect on inclusions in industrial production. The spherical CaS•C12A7 inclusions were modified to smaller ellipsoidal Ce2O2S inclusions, and the proportion of inclusions (0-2 µm) increased significantly from 27 to 66%, while large inclusions (>6 µm) disappeared. A kinetic model of inclusion evolution was established. The results of electrochemical tests indicated that the corrosion potential was positively shifted, and the corrosion current was reduced after Ce treatment. Additionally, the number of defects in the passivation film was decreased, and the corrosion resistance of the steel was significantly improved. The addition of Ce changed the types of inclusions and reduced the number of pitting nucleation points, which led to a remarkable reduction in the number and size of pitting pits. The mechanism of pitting corrosion induced by different types of inclusions was further investigated, and a pitting corrosion model was modeled based on the immersion experiments. Research results provide theoretical support for enhancing the corrosion resistance of steel.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: In medical radiation science (MRS), radiology information systems (RISs) record patient information such as name, gender and birthdate. The purpose of RISs is to ensure the safety and well-being of patients by recording patient data accurately. However, not all RISs appropriately capture gender, sex or other related information of transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) patients, resulting in non-inclusive and discriminatory care. This review synthesises the research surrounding the limitations of RISs preventing inclusivity and the features required to support inclusivity and improve health outcomes. METHODS: Studies were retrieved from three electronic databases (Scopus, PubMed and Embase). A quality assessment was performed using the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Research and Non-Research Evidence Appraisal Tools. A thematic analysis approach was used to synthesise the included articles. RESULTS: Eighteen articles were included based on the predetermined eligibility criteria. The pool of studies included in this review comprised primarily of non-research evidence and reflected the infancy of this research field and the need for further empirical evidence. The key findings of this review emphasise how current systems do not record the patient's name and pronouns appropriately, conflate sex and gender and treat sex and gender as a binary concept. CONCLUSION: For current systems to facilitate inclusivity, they must implement more comprehensive information and data models incorporating sex and gender and be more flexible to accommodate the transient and fluid nature of gender. However, implementation of these recommendations is not without challenges. Additionally, further research focused on RISs is required to address the unique challenges MRS settings present to TGD patients.

ABSTRACT

Design thinking (DT) is a five-stage process (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test) that guides the creation of user-centered solutions to complex problems. DT is in common use outside of science but has rarely been applied to anatomical education. The use of DT in this study identified the need for flexible access to anatomical specimens outside of the anatomy laboratory and guided the creation of a digital library of three-dimensional (3D) anatomical specimens (3D Anatomy Viewer). To test whether the resource was fit for purpose, a mixed-methods student evaluation was undertaken. Student surveys (n = 46) were employed using the system usability scale (SUS) and an unvalidated acceptability questionnaire. These verified that 3D Anatomy Viewer was usable (SUS of 72%) and acceptable (agreement range of 77%-93% on all Likert-type survey statements, Cronbach's alpha = 0.929). Supplementary interviews (n = 5) were analyzed through content analysis and revealed three main themes: (1) a credible online supplementary learning resource; (2) learning anatomy with 3D realism and interactivity; (3) user recommendations for expanding the number of anatomical models, test questions, and gamification elements. These data demonstrate that a DT framework can be successfully applied to anatomical education for creation of a practical learning resource. Anatomy educators should consider employing a DT framework where student-centered solutions to learner needs are required.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) imposes a substantial burden on older adults, and healthy diets and lifestyles may bring with benefits. However, quantifiable studies on the dietary and lifestyle risk factors for HF are scant. The Oxidative Balance Score (OBS) reflects the oxidative stress status of dietary components and lifestyle factors, but its relationship with HF risk is unclear. OBJECTIVE: We aims to explore the association between OBS and the prevalence of HF. METHODS: Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2018, the association between OBS and the HF prevalence was analyzed by weighted logistic regression and restricted cubic splines (RCS). Subgroup and sensitivity analyses assessed the stability of the results. RESULTS: The prevalence of HF in the cohort of 6238 older adults was 5.55 %. Compared to the lowest quintile, the adjusted ORs for HF in the highest quintile of OBS and lifestyle OBS were 0.57 (95 % CI: 0.33,0.97) and 0.21 (95 %CI: 0.09,0.50), respectively. The association between OBS and HF prevalence remained stable across different models and subgroups. RCS revealed a potential inflection point. Sensitivity analysis validated the negative association between OBS and HF prevalence, and the correlation analysis between OBS and serum γ-glutamyltransferase (γ-GGT) confirmed the reliability of the study design. CONCLUSION: The OBS is negatively associated with HF prevalence in older adults, and may help prevent HF in this population.

Climate change and land use change caused by human activities have a profound impact on ecological security. Simulating the spatio-temporal changes in ecosystem service value and ecological security patterns under different carbon emission scenarios in the future is of great significance for formulating sustainable development policies. This study quantified the four major ecosystem services (habitat quality, water retention, soil erosion, and carbon storage) in Northeast China (NC), identified ecological source areas, and constructed a stable ecological security pattern. The results show that the spatial patterns of soil erosion, carbon storage, water retention, and habitat quality, the four major ecosystem services in NC, are relatively stable in the next 30 years, and there is no significant difference from the current spatial pattern distribution. The SSP1-2.6 carbon emission scenario is a priority model for the development of NC in the next 30 years. In this carbon emission scenario, the NC has the largest ecological resources (191,177 km2) and the least comprehensive resistance value (850.006 × 10-4). At the same time, the relative resistance of the corridor in this scenario is the smallest, and the area of the mandatory reserve pinch points is the least. The ecological corridors in the SSP1-2.6 scenario form a network distribution among the ecological sources, connecting several large ecological sources as a whole. This study fills the knowledge gap in building a stable ecological security pattern in NC under the background of global change, and provides a scientific basis for the decision-making of regional ecological security and land resource management.

BACKGROUND: Stress hyperglycemia, which is associated with poor prognosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), can be determined using the stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR). Impaired left ventricular function and microvascular obstruction (MVO) diagnosed using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) have also been proven to be linked to poor prognosis in patients with AMI and aid in risk stratification. However, there have been no studies on the correlation between fasting SHR and left ventricular function and MVO in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (ASTEMI). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the additive effect of fasting SHR on left ventricular function and global deformation in patients with ASTEMI and to explore the association between fasting SHR and MVO. METHODS: Consecutive patients who underwent CMR at index admission (3-7 days) after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) were enrolled in this study. Basic clinical, biochemical, and CMR data were obtained and compared among all patients grouped by fasting SHR tertiles: SHR1: SHR < 0.85; SHR2: 0.85 ≤ SHR < 1.01; and SHR3: SHR ≥ 1.01. Spearman's rho (r) was used to assess the relationship between fasting SHR and left ventricular function, myocardial strain, and the extent of MVO. Multivariable linear regression analysis was performed to evaluate the determinants of left ventricular function and myocardial strain impairment in all patients with AMI. Univariable and multivariable regression analyses were performed to investigate the correlation between fasting SHR and the presence and extent of MVO in patients with AMI and those with AMI and diabetes mellitus (DM). RESULTS: A total of 357 patients with ASTEMI were enrolled in this study. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and left ventricular global function index (LVGFI) were significantly lower in SHR2 and SHR3 than in SHR1. Compared with SHR1 and SHR2 groups, left ventricular strain was lower in SHR3, as evidenced by global radial (GRS), global circumferential (GCS), and global longitudinal (GLS) strains. Fasting SHR were negatively correlated with LVEF, LVGFI, and GRS (r = - 0.252; r = - 0.261; and r = - 0.245; all P<0.001) and positively correlated with GCS (r = 0.221) and GLS (r = 0.249; all P <0.001). Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that fasting SHR was an independent determinant of impaired LVEF, LVGFI, GRS, and GLS. Furthermore, multivariable regression analysis after adjusting for covariates signified that fasting SHR was associated with the presence and extent of MVO in patients with AMI and those with AMI and DM. CONCLUSION: Fasting SHR in patients with ASTEMI successfully treated using PPCI is independently associated with impaired cardiac function and MVO. In patients with AMI and DM, fasting SHR is an independent determinant of the presence and extent of MVO.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Analysis of left atrial (LA) strain and left atrioventricular coupling index (LACI) have prognostic value in cardiovascular diseases. However, the prognostic value of LA strain and LACI in patients with suspected myocarditis and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is unclear. PURPOSE: To investigate the prognostic value of LA strain and LACI in patients with suspected myocarditis and preserved LVEF in comparison with conventional MRI outcome predictors. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: One hundred sixty-five patients with clinically suspected myocarditis and preserved LVEF with available follow-up data. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: Steady-state free precession cine and phase-sensitive inversion recovery segmented gradient echo late gadolinium enhancement sequences at 3.0 T. ASSESSMENT: Left ventricular (LV) and LA strain were evaluated using feature tracking. LACI was calculated as the ratio of LA and LV volumes at LV end-diastole. Patients were followed-up with the primary endpoint being major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). STATISTICAL TESTS: Independent-samples t-test and Mann-Whitney U test to compare patients with and without MACE, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to define high/low risk groups, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression to assess prognosis. A P value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: The associations of LV strain parameters (including global radial, circumferential, and longitudinal strain) and LACI with MACE were not significant (P = 0.511, 0.108, 0.148, and 0.847, respectively). An optimal LA conduit strain (Ԑe) cutoff value of 10.4% was identified to best classify patients into low- and high-risk groups. Only Ԑe was significantly associated with MACE in both univariable (hazards ratio [HR] 0.936, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.884-0.991) and multivariable Cox survival analyses (HR 0.937, 95% CI 0.884-0.994). DATA CONCLUSION: LA conduit strain has prognostic value in patients with suspected myocarditis and preserved LVEF, incremental to conventional MRI outcome predictors, whereas LACI was not associated with MACE occurrence. EVIDENCE LEVEL: 3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

ABSTRACT

The fixed-time control problem is investigated for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems subjected to multiple unknown control directions. The control coefficients of nonlinear systems under consideration are time varying and their signs are not required to be identical. To tackle this challenge, a switching mechanism along with a novel dynamic boundary function is proposed. Utilizing the devised dynamic boundary function, adaptive parameters are introduced into the controller to effectively handle system uncertainties. It is proved that the system output converges to a small neighborhood of the origin in fixed time and the boundedness of all system signals is maintained. Finally, two simulation examples are used to show the validity of the presented switching control strategy.

BACKGROUND: Researchers have not studied the integrity, orderly correlation, and dynamic openness of complex organisms and explored the laws of systems from a global perspective. In the context of reductionism, antidepressant development formerly focused on advanced technology and molecular details, clear targets and mechanisms, but the clinical results were often unsatisfactory. PURPOSE: MDD represents an aggregate of different and highly diverse disease subtypes. The co-occurrence of stress-induced nonrandom multimorbidity is widespread, whereas only a fraction of the potential clusters are well known, such as the MDD-FGID cluster. Mapping these clusters, and determining which are nonrandom, is vital for discovering new mechanisms, developing treatments, and reconfiguring services to better meet patient needs. STUDY DESIGN: Acute stress 15-minute forced swimming (AFS) or CUMS protocols can induce the nonrandom MDD-FGID cluster. Multiple biological processes of rats with depression-like behaviours and gastrointestinal dysmobility will be captured under conditions of stress, and the Fructus Aurantii-Rhizoma Chuanxiong (ZQCX) decoction will be utilized to dock the MDD-FGID cluster. METHODS/RESULTS: Here, Rhizoma Chuanxiong, one of the seven components of Chaihu-shugan-San, elicited the best antidepressant effect on CUMS rats, followed by Fructus Aurantii. ZQCX reversed AFS-induced depression-like behaviours and gastrointestinal dysmobility by regulating the glutamatergic system, AMPAR/BDNF/mTOR/synapsin I pathway, ghrelin signalling and gastrointestinal nitric oxide synthase. Based on the bioethnopharmacological analysis strategy, the determined meranzin hydrate (MH) and senkyunolide I (SI) by UPLC-PDA, simultaneously absorbed by the jejunum and hippocampus of rats, have been considered major absorbed bioactive compounds acting on behalf of ZQCX. Cotreatment with MH and SI at an equivalent dose in ZQCX synergistically replicated over 50.33 % efficacy of the parent formula in terms of antidepressant and prokinetic actions by modulating neuroinflammation and ghrelin signalling. CONCLUSION: Brain-centric mind shifts require the integration of multiple central and peripheral systems and the elucidation of the underlying neurobiological mechanisms that ultimately contribute to novel therapeutic options. Ghrelin signalling and the immune system may partially underlie multimorbidity vulnerability, and ZQCX anchors stress-induced MDD-FGID clusters by docking them. Combining the results of micro details with the laws of the macro world may be more effective in finding treatments for MDD.

ABSTRACT

The synthesis of cyclic carbonates through cycloaddition reactions between epoxides and carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important industrial process. Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) have functional and ordered pore structures, making them attractive catalysts for converting gas molecules into valuable products. One approach to enhance the catalytic activity of MOFs in CO2 cycloaddition reactions is to create open metal sites within MOFs. In this study, the amino-functionalized rare earth Gd-MOF (Gd-TPTC-NH2) and its ionic liquid composite catalysts (Gd-TPTC-NH-[BMIM]Br) were synthesized using 2'-amino-[1,1':4',1''-terphenyl]-3,3'',5,5''-tetracarboxylic acid (H4TPTC-NH2) as the ligand. The catalytic performance of these two catalysts was observed in the cycloaddition reaction of CO2 and epoxides. Under the optimized reaction conditions, Gd-TPTC-NH-[BMIM]Br can effectively catalyze the cycloaddition reaction of a variety of epoxide substrates with good to excellent yields of cyclic carbonate products. Comparatively, epichlorohydrin and epibromohydrin, which possess halogen substituents, promote higher yields of cyclic carbonates due to the electron-withdrawing nature of Cl and Br substituents. Additionally, the Gd-TPTC-NH-[BMIM]Br catalyst demonstrated good recyclability and reproducibility, maintaining its catalytic activity without any changes in its structure or properties after five reuse cycles.

ABSTRACT

Background: Patients presenting with unexplained T wave inversion on electrocardiogram combined with thickened left ventricular apex but less than 15 mm had been proposed as a preclinical scope of apical hypertrophy cardiomyopathy (pre-ApHCM). However, analysis of left atrial (LA) function in these patients has not been studied. This study aims to evaluate the LA function in pre-ApHCM patients and compare it with patients with ApHCM using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. Methods: In this retrospective case-control study, a total of 3,593 CMR reports from Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, China were reviewed. Finally, 31 pre-ApHCM patients were identified and 40 ApHCM and 31 normal controls were included for comparison. LA volumetric and strain were analyzed by CMR. Two-tailed one-way ANOVA was used to analyze the difference of three groups. Pearson correlation test was used for correlation analysis. Results: All of the volumetric parameters in pre-ApHCM group were higher than those in control group. LA reservoir (LA total EF, εs) and conduit function (LA passive EF, εe) parameters, were significantly different among the three groups, which were the lowest in the ApHCM group, intermediate in the pre-ApHCM group, and the highest in the control group ((all P<0.001). Compared with the control group, the LA booster pump function, both the booster EF and booster pump strain (εa) in ApHCM were impaired (P=0.003 and P=0.002 respectively). Meanwhile, only the εa was impaired (P=0.016) while LA booster EF was not (P=0.064) in the pre-ApHCM group, neither εa nor the booster EF show difference between the ApHCM and pre-ApHCM (P=0.272 and P=0.518 respectively). Conclusions: LA function features in pre-ApHCM patients were similar to ApHCM but different from the normal controls. In pre-ApHCM and ApHCM patients, LA reservoir and conduit function impaired earlier before left atrium enlarged and decreased progressively as apex thickens. These findings may help to understand the LA functional change from pre-ApHCM to ApHCM, and to detect subclinical changes in patients with pre-ApHCM before overt hypertrophy or clinical symptoms develop.

In this study, the base film (CSL) was prepared by blending tunicate cellulose nanocrystals (TCNCs) extracted from tunicate shells, with sodium alginate (SA) and alkali lignin (AL). Then, the mulching film (CSL-WK) was prepared using water-borne polyurethane (WPU) as binder to install low-energy Kaolin on the surface of CSL film. The influences of composition with different concentrations on mechanical properties were studied. The tensile strength and elongation at break of CSL-WK film could reach 86.58 MPa and 50.49 %, respectively. The mulching films were characterized by degradability test, SEM, FTIR, and TGA. TCNCs had good compatibility with SA and AL, and a rough structure was formed on the surface of the film to improve the hydrophobicity. The barrier properties, including ultraviolet resistance, water contact angle, water vapor permeability, water retention, and flame retardancy, were tested. The results showed that CSL-WK films could block 97 % of ultraviolet light, reduce about 25 % of soil water loss, and self-extinguish within 7 s of open flame ignition. Note that the secondary spraying method significantly improved the barrier property of films. This study lays a foundation for the preparation of ecologically friendly, biodegradable, and high barrier mulching film, and expands the application of marine resources.

ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular CT is being widely used in the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease due to the rapid technological advancements in CT scanning techniques. These advancements include the development of multi-slice CT, from early generation to the latest models, which has the capability of acquiring images with high spatial and temporal resolution. The recent emergence of photon-counting CT has further enhanced CT performance in clinical applications, providing improved spatial and contrast resolution. CT-derived fractional flow reserve is superior to standard CT-based anatomical assessment for the detection of lesion-specific myocardial ischemia. CT-derived 3D-printed patient-specific models are also superior to standard CT, offering advantages in terms of educational value, surgical planning, and the simulation of cardiovascular disease treatment, as well as enhancing doctor-patient communication. Three-dimensional visualization tools including virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality are further advancing the clinical value of cardiovascular CT in cardiovascular disease. With the widespread use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning in cardiovascular disease, the diagnostic performance of cardiovascular CT has significantly improved, with promising results being presented in terms of both disease diagnosis and prediction. This review article provides an overview of the applications of cardiovascular CT, covering its performance from the perspective of its diagnostic value based on traditional lumen assessment to the identification of vulnerable lesions for the prediction of disease outcomes with the use of these advanced technologies. The limitations and future prospects of these technologies are also discussed.
